A New Chapter for Oceanside Chamber of Commerce

After nearly four decades at 928 North Coast Highway, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce has officially begun a new chapter in its history. We have now relocated to our new home at 3605 Ocean Ranch Boulevard. This move marks not only a physical transition, but also a historic milestone for our organization. For the first time in our 130-year history, the Chamber is operating outside of Downtown Oceanside.

When the Chamber first moved into our North Coast Highway location in the late 1980s, Downtown Oceanside looked very different from the thriving district it is today. Over the years, our downtown office gave us a front-row seat to an incredible transformation. We watched new beach resorts rise, a vibrant restaurant scene take shape, and creative and cultural spaces emerge. Major events began drawing thousands to our beaches and pier area, and tourism grew into a major driver of our local economy.

Our location allowed us to stay closely connected to this progress, and the Chamber played an active role in advocating for many of the improvements that helped shape today’s Downtown Oceanside. We worked alongside city leaders, local businesses, and community partners to support responsible growth and create an environment where businesses could thrive. Being part of this momentum — and helping to champion it — has been an honor for our entire team.

As we look ahead, we are excited to be part of another area of Oceanside experiencing its own wave of growth and energy. The Ocean Ranch area has become one of the city’s most active business districts, home to major employers, new development, and innovative industries. A key part of that excitement is Frontwave Arena, which opened in 2024 and has already made a tremendous impact on our community.

OCEANSIDE’S TRIBUTE TO

250 Years of American Freedom

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with County Supervisor Jim Desmond, will proudly host the Oceanside USA 250 Festival – our community’s signature celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Held at the scenic Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre, the Festival will take place immediately following the beloved Independence Parade organized by MainStreet Oceanside. Festival goers are encouraged to make a full day of it in downtown Oceanside. Begin the morning along Coast Highway cheering on parade entries, local schools, veterans groups, first responders, and community organizations, then head to the Pier Amphitheatre for an afternoon of live entertainment, food, and family fun.

This once-in-a-generation milestone provides a meaningful opportunity to celebrate America’s founding while showcasing what makes Oceanside such a special place to live, work, and serve. As one of Southern California’s most diverse and militaryconnected coastal communities, Oceanside is uniquely positioned to commemorate America’s 250th birthday in a way that reflects both national pride and hometown character.

Festival guests will enjoy live entertainment on the main stage, headlined by nationally recognized country artist Craig Campbell, along with performances by talented local musicians and community groups. The Festival will also feature hundreds of exhibitors, including local arts and crafts vendors, food and beverage booths, nonprofit organizations, and business showcases highlighting the innovation and spirit of our region.

Families can explore the Stars & Stripes Fun Zone, offering inflatables, slides, obstacle courses, interactive games, and sponsor-hosted activities designed for kids and parents alike. Additional highlights include a classic Americana chili cook-off, a pinewood derby, and community exhibits celebrating Oceanside’s history, culture, and entrepreneurial energy.

The Oceanside USA 250 Festival is more than an event—it is a community celebration. By bringing together residents, visitors, service members, and local businesses, we honor our nation’s past while celebrating the bright future of Oceanside. Businesses and community partners are invited to join us in making this historic celebration a true reflection of a thriving and united Oceanside.

America’s turning 250, and O’side is throwing the kind of party that’d make the Founding Fathers loosen their collars.

Join us at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre for an afternoon of live music, local flavor, and classic Americana. Country star Craig Campbell headlines the stage alongside a full lineup of performances, while hundreds of local vendors, artists, and community groups bring the celebration to life.

Enjoy chili cook-o s, pinewood derby races, a full Fun Zone packed with free kids’ activities, and plenty of good eats along the way. Come celebrate 250 years of community, creativity, and freedom the O’side way.

Celebrating Service, Strengthening Community: Armed Forces Day in Oceanside

Each year, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce proudly hosts one of our community’s most meaningful traditions — Operation Appreciation. On Saturday, May 16, we will once again gather to celebrate Armed Forces Day by honoring the men and women who serve our country and the families who stand beside them.

Founded in 2002, Operation Appreciation has become a signature Oceanside event and a powerful reminder of the unique bond between our business community and our military community. As home to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside has long been a city where service and sacrifice are part of daily life. This event is our opportunity to say “thank you” in a tangible way.

Operation Appreciation is a free community celebration designed specifically for active-duty service members and their families. The event features resource booths, food, entertainment, family activities, and opportunities to connect with local businesses and nonprofit organizations that serve military families year-round. It is both festive and purposeful, creating an environment where families feel welcomed, supported, and valued.

For local businesses, Operation Appreciation offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with hundreds of military families in a positive, high-energy setting. Sponsorship provides meaningful visibility while demonstrating a company’s commitment to those who serve. Many of our sponsors return year after year because they see firsthand the impact of their involvement, and the lasting relationships built during the event.

It is also a powerful opportunity for volunteer service. From helping with set-up and logistics to greeting families and supporting activities, volunteers play a critical role in creating a memorable experience. Service clubs, corporate teams, and individual community members are all encouraged to get involved. For more information, please visit www.OceansideOperationAppreciation.com or call the Chamber at 760-722-1534.

How the Oceanside Chamber Leverages Social Media to Support Our Business Community

At the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, our social media presence is more than marketing, it’s a tool to lift up local businesses, strengthen community connections, and shine a light on the people who make Oceanside such a great place to live and work. Over the past two decades, the Chamber has built one of the strongest social media platforms of any chamber in Southern California. That long-term investment allows us to deliver real value to our members every day.

Most of our posts, reels, and stories are intentionally focused on our members and community rather than the Chamber itself. When our businesses thrive, Oceanside thrives, and our online strategy reflects that mission.

One of our most effective tools is our “Member Reels.” These short videos consistently generate strong engagement and allow us to tell the stories behind Oceanside’s shops, restaurants, and entrepreneurs. As Marketing and Communications Specialist Monica Gomez shares, “The power of social media is the ability to tell stories. At the Oceanside Chamber, I aspire to share the stories of our local businesses, connecting our community members with every post.”

The impact is measurable. On average, Member Reels receive more than 17,500 views per post, reach over 6,600 unique accounts, and generate more than 630 interactions, including hundreds of likes, shares, saves, and comments. This helps extend each business’s visibility well beyond the Chamber’s immediate audience.

We also host seasonal giveaways that spotlight member businesses and encourage our followers to

try something new. These campaigns consistently spark conversations and introduce Chamber members to new audiences. On average, giveaway posts reach more than 3,200 accounts and generate nearly 500 interactions, with more than 60 percent of views coming from non-followers, helping members reach new customers while still engaging our core community.

Staying connected to our members’ own content is another key part of our approach. We regularly repost and engage with user-generated content from businesses that tag us or share updates. This reinforces the message that the Chamber is a partner in our members’ success and helps amplify their reach. Over time, our social platforms have become a community canvas. We don’t just post announcements, we share behind-the-scenes moments, real-life stories, staff spotlights, sustainability initiatives, and snapshots of businesses and events in action. By mixing candid photos, reels, event promotions, and community-focused content, we create a feed that feels authentic and approachable. As Marketing and Communications Specialist Janelle Quezada notes, “It’s not just about the likes and numbers – the real win is truly connecting with our community and bringing more support to the people and businesses who make Oceanside so special.”

Consistency is important to us. Each month, we share recap reels highlighting the Chamber’s work, from advocacy and workforce programs to community outreach. After signature events, we post dedicated recap videos that showcase the energy and impact of

each gathering. We also post a monthly overview of upcoming events such as mixers, workshops, ribbon cuttings, and forums so our community knows what’s ahead. For mixers, we often include a walk-through video of the host location to help attendees feel welcome before they arrive.

Our content is intentionally people-focused. We prioritize candid photos and authentic moments over heavy graphics, while still maintaining a clean, recognizable Chamber brand. Collaboration is central to our strategy, whether co-creating content with members, working with partners, or sharing real-time stories during events. We also take time to celebrate our members and staff through shoutouts and small moments of appreciation.

By shining a light on local businesses and the people behind them, our social media platforms have become an extension of our mission. They amplify visibility, strengthen relationships, and support a thriving local economy, helping ensure Oceanside remains a vibrant place to do business.

SAVE OCEANSIDE SAND:

THIS IS WHAT PROGRESS LOOKS LIKE ...Powered

by Community, Guided by Science.

Save Oceanside Sand (SOS) often hears the same questions: “Why does this take so long?” “Nothing is ever going to happen.” “It’s been six years — what’s been accomplished?”

LET’S LOOK AT THE FACTS.

Large-scale coastal restoration projects are measured in decades, not months. The Encinitas–Solana Beach Coastal Storm Damage Reduction Project required more than 20 years of partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) before implementation. San Clemente’s Shoreline Protection Project followed a similar timeline after first requesting USACE assistance in 2000.

Oceanside’s own San Diego County Shoreline (Oceanside) Mitigation Study was Congressionally authorized in 2000 and is anticipated to be completed in 2027 — and that still does not guarantee construction without additional authorization and funding.

In contrast, the City of Oceanside took a different path.

In 2020, the City contracted with GHD to complete a Sand Replenishment and Retention Device feasibility study. That 2021 study led directly to the RE:BEACH International Design Competition. In 2024, the Oceanside City Council unanimously approved the winning design and its proposed location. Construction of the RE:BEACH Pilot Project is anticipated as early as late 2027/2028, pending funding.

Conservatively, that is an eight-year path from feasibility study to potential construction — significantly faster than traditional federal timelines. Just as importantly, RE:BEACH is a City of Oceanside project that does not require Congressional authorization, reducing layers of delay.

SO WHERE DOES SOS FIT IN?

SOS was formed in 2019 by three Oceanside residents responding to a visible crisis along our shoreline. Since then, SOS has served as the consistent voice of the community — advocating directly with elected officials, collaborating with Staff, and ensuring beach restoration remains a priority.

Key milestones influenced by SOS advocacy include:

 Completion of the City’s 2021 feasibility study

 Creation and hiring of Oceanside’s first Coastal Zone Administrator

 Three public workshops and a voting seat for SOS on the RE:BEACH Design Jury (2023)

 Unanimous City Council approval of the winning RE:BEACH design and site (2024)

 Secured 3 permanent City budget line items with initial & recurring funding for sand replenishment, beach restoration and shoreline protection (totaling $2.8 million to date through FY 2024/25)

 Passage of the Measure X extension in November 2024, recognizing beaches as critical infrastructure and supporting habitat restoration

 Regional approval by SANDAG in June 2025 naming RE:BEACH as the region’s sand retention pilot project

Beyond advocacy, SOS is deeply rooted in community education and science.

Since 2019, SOS Beach Pop-Ups have provided weekly summer outreach and project updates. Beginning in 2021, SOS Community Science volunteers — in coordination with Scripps Institution of Oceanography — have conducted monthly shoreline sand measurements along Oceanside and North Carlsbad. This publicly available data supports researchers, engineers, and even the USACE in understanding shoreline behavior.

The SOS High School Internship Program, launched in 2022, invests directly in the next generation of coastal stewards every summer.

This is what progress looks like. It’s steady. It’s strategic. And it’s community-driven.

SOS is not waiting for change — we are helping to build it. But responsible, maintainable beach restoration requires sustained public support. If you care about protecting Oceanside’s beaches for future generations, we invite you to join SOS, volunteer, and consider making a donation. Every contribution strengthens our voice, advances sciencebased solutions, and moves us closer to a resilient, restored shoreline.

Our beaches are critical infrastructure. They are our economy, our recreation, our habitat, and our heritage.

Together, we can ensure they endure.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Veterans Association of North County (VANC)

SERVING THOSE WHO SERVED – A COMMUNITY RESOURCE OR OUR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES

In Oceanside, the military isn’t just a nearby neighbor – it’s part of the city’s identity. With its proximity to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, North County is home to tens of thousands of active-duty service members, veterans, retirees, and military families who live, work, and volunteer in our communities. And while military service builds strength and purpose, the transition from service to civilian life can bring significant challenges that many people never see. That’s why the work of Veterans Association of North County (VANC) is so essential – and so worthy of recognition.

Founded in 2007, VANC has grown into a trusted nonprofit resource hub that supports veterans and active-duty service members with compassion, realworld solutions, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring no veteran stands alone.

A SPOTLIGHT WORTH SHINING

Today, VANC continues to expand its impact across Oceanside and throughout North County by providing immediate assistance, long-term support programs,

and a centralized location where veterans and families can find help quickly.

At the heart of VANC’s mission is a powerful promise: to serve those who served by meeting urgent needs, restoring stability, and rebuilding lives with dignity.

A LOCAL ORIGIN STORY WITH LASTING IMPACT

VANC began as the vision of local veteran Chuck Atkinson, who recognized that North County lacked a cohesive system for veterans to access services in one place. Rather than forcing veterans to navigate disconnected agencies and complicated resources, VANC created a model centered on coordination, community, and a “one-stop” approach.

That vision became reality in Oceanside, where VANC established its Resource Center at 1617 Mission Avenue, an important and symbolic location—one that transformed into a facility built to serve the needs of the veteran community.

LEADERSHIP THAT LEADS WITH HEART

VANC’s mission is carried forward under the leadership of Lori Boody, Executive Director, whose

dedication reflects the organization’s hands-on, service-first culture. Under her leadership, VANC has remained deeply focused on outcomes—not headlines—delivering support where it matters most and maintaining the kind of personal connection that many veterans say they struggle to find elsewhere.

DIRECT ASSISTANCE THAT CHANGES LIVES

Nonprofits often speak in big terms—awareness, impact, transformation. “VANC delivers all of that, but in the most meaningful way possible: through direct and tangible help,” said Boody.

When a veteran is at risk of losing housing, facing a financial emergency, struggling with paperwork, or simply overwhelmed by the process of re-entering civilian life, VANC provides support that is both immediate and practical.

VANC works to help veterans access:

 Resources and programs for transition and support

 Connections to benefits and service providers

 Opportunities in education and employment

 Health and wellness support services

 Community-based programs and referrals

The organization’s goal is clear: act quickly to prevent short-term hardship from becoming long-term crisis, especially for those who may be silently struggling.

A RESOURCE CENTER FOR THE ENTIRE MILITARY FAMILY

VANC understands that supporting veterans means supporting the people around them. The organization provides services and connections that strengthen families, stabilize living situations, and help create healthier futures. It’s one of the reasons VANC holds such value in Oceanside—because the impact reaches far beyond one person at a time.

WHY CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

As a proud part of the local business and civic community, VANC strengthens Oceanside in the same way every valuable Chamber member does – by making the city better.

“The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce isn’t just a network for commerce; it’s a network for community leadership. Featuring VANC as a Member Spotlight reflects the Chamber’s recognition that organizations serving veterans contribute directly to local health, stability, and economic strength,” said Boody.

OCEANSIDE’S VETERAN COMMUNITY NEEDS A HUB LIKE VANC

Oceanside is uniquely positioned to lead in veteran support. Every neighborhood in this city includes

people who served—sometimes recently, sometimes decades ago. Yet many veterans still face barriers: navigating benefits systems, accessing reliable services, or simply finding trusted support without stigma.

VANC fills that gap by offering a welcoming environment where veterans and service members can walk in and be understood. It’s more than assistance. It’s respect.

HOW THE COMMUNITY CAN SUPPORT VANC

One of the most powerful aspects of VANC is that the organization invites the entire community to participate. Support can come from individuals, businesses, and organizations across Oceanside. Those who want to help can contribute through:

 Donations

 Sponsorships

 Volunteer involvement

 Partnering on programs and events

 Helping spread awareness of services available Learn more about VANC and ways they support the Oceanside community: www. https://www.vanc.me.

A Conversation with Dr. Megan Johnson McCullough

A Conversation with Dr. Megan Johnson McCullough

Q: So, tell me a little bit about yourself, Megan.

Q: So, tell me a little bit about yourself, Megan.

Megan: I was born and raised right here in Oceanside. After

Megan: I was born and raised right here in Oceanside. After a record-breaking basketball career at El Camino High School, I played at the collegiate level in Colorado before returning home to coach. During that time, I earned my master’s degree and teaching credentials in Physical Education and Health. While my career path eventually shifted away from traditional teaching, it led me to open my own fitness studio in Oceanside 16 years ago. Since then, I’ve returned to academia to earn a doctorate in Health and Human Performance, authored 11 books, and became a professional natural bodybuilder for Team USA. Although, my career has taken me all over the world, I will always be a born-and-bred member of the Oceanside community.

Q: Talk to me a little bit about your journey with your business, Every Body’s Fit.

Megan: At 26, I found myself working as a substitute teacher and coaching at corporate gyms, but I soon realized these roles were too limiting and didn't reflect the value of my credentials. Driven to do more, I opened my own fitness studio at Greenbrier and Oceanside Boulevard, where I spent 12 successful years.

Three years ago, I expanded my reach by purchasing Mindful Bodies Recovery in downtown Oceanside. When the studio space next door became available shortly after, I seized the opportunity to relocate my entire fitness practice. My clients followed me to the new location, and it’s been a full-circle moment for me; as an Oceanside native, there is a special sense of pride in bringing your business to the heart of downtown.

Q: When it comes to motivation versus discipline, how do you stay consistent on the days when you have zero motivation to move?

Megan: Like anyone else, I’m only human. In my business, I place immense value on accountability and the importance of showing up, even when you don’t feel like it. As an entrepreneur, you have to get up and be there because someone is waiting for you; you have a commitment to keep. In fact, despite being a professional natural bodybuilder, I don't actually like to exercise alone. I still crave that same sense of accountability, even if it just means having someone else in the room with me. There are definitely mornings when I wake up tired or would

prefer a day off, but because of my drive, discipline, and hustle, I always show up. To me, that is the core of what I teach.

“Your Transformation Is My Passion”

Q: If you could recommend one thing to someone for their fitness journey, what would it be?

Megan: The most important part of any fitness journey is consistency. We often start with this 'white picket fence' ideal, the perfect plan to work out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the exact same time. But life rarely cooperates with a perfect schedule. The key is to be flexible in your approach while remaining consistent in your effort. If your goal is to hit the gym three days a week, it doesn’t have to be the same three days or the same three times every week. It just matters that you showed up three times. You must be willing to accommodate the realities of your schedule; otherwise, you’re simply setting yourself up for failure. Success isn't about perfection; it's about adaptability.

Q: What makes the experience at Every Body’s Fit unique compared to a traditional gym?

Megan: My expertise spans a wide range of needs, from weight loss to specialized training for conditions like Parkinson’s and cancer recovery. Unlike many traditional gyms, my studio offers a private, intimate environment; arriving here is like showing up for a professional health appointment. I believe my longevity in this community is a result of that professionalism, my advanced education, and a level of discipline that ensures I am always there for my clients. At Every Body’s Fit, we prioritize a community-oriented atmosphere over high-intensity intimidation. Whether it’s your first time or your five-hundredth, you won’t get lost in the crowd; you will receive personalized attention and nutritional guidance designed for a total lifestyle change rather than a quick fix. This commitment to long-term health is why my clients stay with me for years.

Owning a business in Oceanside has become a beautiful, full-circle experience. I now train the very teachers, counselors, and coaches who guided me through high school. I am also proud to serve as a coach for the non-profit Oceanside’s Finest Basketball, where I help young athletes develop their strength, agility, and speed. Growing up as a basketball player here, it is incredibly rewarding to ensure our local kids have access to the same elite resources as any other community. By offering this program for free, we are closing the talent gap in North County and giving the next generation a chance to thrive.

Oceanside Leadership Academy Welcomes its 7th Cohort this April

Since launching in 2023, the Oceanside Leadership Academy (OLA) has become one of the most impactful programs of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. What began as a vision to cultivate stronger, more connected leaders in our community has grown into a dynamic 10-week experience that has now graduated more than 200 participants from over 45 local employers.

On April 25th, we will welcome our 7th cohort of leaders. The Oceanside Leadership Academy was created with a simple but powerful goal: to equip current and emerging leaders with a deeper understanding of our city, its industries, and the collaborative relationships that drive progress. Each weekly session features interactive discussions and behind-the-scenes access to leaders from sectors including:

 Local government and public safety

 Business and entrepreneurship

 Healthcare and education

 Military and nonprofit leadership

 Tourism, hospitality, and STEM industries

Participants don’t just sit through presentations. They engage in candid conversations, explore real-world challenges, and build relationships that extend well beyond the program itself.

One of the most rewarding aspects of OLA has been watching connections form across industries. A healthcare professional gains insight into public safety operations. A nonprofit leader connects with a local manufacturer. A small business owner learns

The program concludes with a graduation reception and leadership roundtable where participants reflect on key lessons and share how they are applying what they’ve learned within their organizations and in the broader community.

If you are looking to grow as a leader—or if your company is seeking a high-impact professional development opportunity for your team, please visit www.OceansideLeadershipAcademy.com or call the Chamber at 760-722-1534.

MAINTAINING MOMENTUM: Camp Pendleton as a Partner in Regional Growth

Oceanside’s largest gated community – Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Since 1942, Camp Pendleton remains a proud and active member of the Oceanside community. Our service members and their families live in Oceanside, their dependents work and attend school there, and when their active service is complete many of our veterans continue to serve in the local community. As such, the base represents a cornerstone of regional readiness, economic vitality, and community partnership across North San Diego County.

Our mission is to support the operating forces in meeting national security needs, whenever and wherever that may be. The base accomplishes this mission through installation-related functions that support force generation, force projection, and force sustainment. That mission guides every infrastructure investment, quality-of-life initiative, and partnership we pursue. As the Marine Corps marks its 250th anniversary, we are reminded that readiness has always depended on strong ties with the communities we serve alongside and call home.

Each year, Camp Pendleton hosts large-scale, multiagency exercises such as Exercise SEMPER DURUS, which bring together military installations and civilian partners from across Southern California. These efforts validate emergency response capabilities, interoperability with our non-military partners, and enhance our ability to provide a safe and resilient training and power projection platform. The installation also conducts recurring interagency tabletop exercises and hands-on wildfire response training with CAL FIRE and local first responders, strengthening coordination and enhancing public safety throughout the region.

Beyond operational readiness, Camp Pendleton continues to invest in quality of life for service members and their families – investments that also generate meaningful economic activity for surrounding communities. Recent projects include

the opening of a new Army Veterinary Services Clinic, developed in coordination with the U.S. Army. The modern facility is triple the size of the previous clinic and enhances care for military working dogs while expanding services for the privately-owned animals of service members.

Family support services are a key aspect of operational readiness. Seven child development centers currently provide care to more than 1,000 children, with an eighth center scheduled to open in 2027. These facilities support workforce stability while creating construction, service, and operational opportunities for local businesses.

As the Marine Corps marks its 250th anniversary, we are reminded that readiness has always depended on strong ties with the communities we serve alongside and call home.

Furthermore, preparing Marines and their families for success beyond uniformed service is equally important. Through Marine Corps Community Services and partner organizations, Camp Pendleton hosts career fairs, transition programs, and SkillBridge opportunities that connect Marines and spouses with local employers, helping translate military experience into valuable civilian skills.

Looking ahead, Camp Pendleton remains committed to partnership, transparency, and shared success. We value our collaboration with the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and the broader business community, and we look forward to continuing our role as an enduring partner in the region’s growth and prosperity.

Small Choices for a Cleaner Oceanside

In our sunny Oceanside, small choices make a big di erence. When enjoying our beautiful beaches be sure to pack your sunscreen and a reusable water bottle, skip single-use plastics, and recycle right. Together, by making these small choices, we can keep Oceanside’s beaches clean, our ocean blue, and our community beautiful for years to come.

Prevent Marine Debris!

Oceanside businesses are leading the way by eliminating polystyrene containers and single-use plastic bags. Bring your own bags, cups, and utensils, and help keep our beaches clean for everyone to enjoy. Remember, every piece of litter left on land has the potential to reach the sea, a ecting marine life and the beauty of our coastline.

Make the most of the 3 Rʼs!

Reduce what you use, reuse items whenever you can, and recycle responsibly by properly sorting your food scraps, recyclable materials, and trash. These simple habits add up, keeping waste out of landfills and helping Oceanside stay clean and green for all who visit and live here. Keep an eye out for conveniently placed trash and recycling bins along the streets, beaches, and parks - so you can enjoy your zero-waste day!

Ride gO’side THE MOST FUN WAY TO GET AROUND DOWNTOWN OCEANSIDE

As the contract manager for the City’s partnership with Circuit to operate the gO’side Electric Vehicle (EV) shuttle, I thought I’d take a moment to brag about one of the most fun programs I’ve had the opportunity to work on in recent years.

The gO’side EV shuttle is Oceanside’s electric, ondemand circulator that helps people move around Downtown Oceanside. Riders can go from the harbor to the pier, Mission Avenue to the Oceanside Transit Center, and throughout the neighborhoods that make our city so vibrant — without the hassle of parking or driving short distances.

Here’s why I’m proud of this program:

Easy, App-Driven Access

Riders simply download the Ride Circuit app, select Oceanside as their location, and request their ride. It’s

smart phone, easy interface focused on quick, reliable trips across downtown and adjacent communities.

Affordable and Efficient

gO’side runs on fully electric, shared vehicles — reducing emissions and traffic congestion while supporting affordable mobility. A flat fare of just $3 per rider (capped at $6 for groups of two or more) keeps the service accessible. Circuit’s philosophy aligns perfectly with ours: shared electric rides shouldn’t cost more than traditional transport.

Supporting Local Businesses and Residents

The data and stories we’ve heard confirm what we intended to build: a mobility solution that energizes our downtown economy. Riders use gO’side to hop between restaurants, retail, cultural events, the beach, and transit connections with comfort and convenience. More than half of riders are locals — seniors heading to events, families enjoying a night out, and workers getting to their jobs.

A Climate-Forward Tool

By prioritizing electric vehicles and shared trips, the gO’side also supports Oceanside’s sustainability goals. This isn’t just convenient transportation — it’s part

of how we reduce carbon emissions, ease traffic, and make our streets healthier and happier.

Partnership in Motion

None of this happens alone. Visit Oceanside has been an important partner on the gO’side from day one, investing $100,000 per year for the first two years of the program, which served as an important match to grant funding the City received from SANDAG. Visit Oceanside also invested in developing the vibrant brand, and even the name gO’side.

To keep the program going this year, Visit Oceanside stepped up once again, along with the Oceanside Cultural Arts District and the Downtown Property Business Improvement District. Each organization contributed to the funding, which was matched in December by the Oceanside City Council. The community has invested in this service because we believe in mobility that strengthens community and commerce. I work directly with Circuit’s team to regularly refine the service, respond to rider feedback, and make sure gO’side keeps delivering value for people and businesses alike.

When I see the bright gO’side shuttle glide down Coast Highway, I see progress — practical, fun, electric mobility that helps everyone enjoy more of Oceanside. And I think that’s a ride worth taking!

Students arrive with purpose, their Why, and leave prepared for whatever comes next.

That’s why we partner with you. That’s how we do business.

FRONTWAVE FOUNDATION: When Support Matters Most

Some challenges can be solved with financial support. Others call for something more human. Volunteers. Supplies. Goods in kind. A reminder that they are seen and someone cares. The Frontwave Foundation exists for moments like these.

Building on Frontwave Credit Union’s legacy of service beyond banking, the Foundation brings people, partners and resources together to meet real needs across our communities. The goal is simple: strengthen what works, step in where support falls short and deliver help with dignity.

Lasting change comes from sustained investment in people and opportunity, not one-time gestures.

STANDING BESIDE OUR COMMUNITIES

Families across our region face unexpected hardships, and students struggle to afford education. Many neighbors, including military members and veterans, turn to community organizations for support. In moments like these, partnership and generosity restore stability and hope.

The Foundation focuses its work where needs are real. We partner with organizations that help neighbors build stability and opportunity. We invest in youth and education and support military members, veterans and their families.

Every effort starts the same way: listen first, learn what is needed, then move with purpose.

IMPACT IN ACTION

In 2025, the Foundation turned commitment into measurable impact.

The Foundation supported more than 20 nonprofit partners, including Blue Heart Foundation, which provides mentoring and education programs for underserved youth. Foundation support also helped Casa de Amparo serve children and families rebuilding stability after abuse and neglect.

Scholarships opened doors for community and military-connected students pursuing higher education and career training, removing financial barriers and creating new opportunities.

Through Hygiene for Humanity, more than 300 volunteers assembled and distributed over 9,000 hygiene and care kits, and outreach partners delivered them to neighbors in need.

The Foundation supports military members, veterans, and their families through partnerships on and off base, including programs like the Pendleton Pantry and ASYMCA. Through Shelter to Soldier, rescue dogs train for new roles supporting veterans. Nova, a future service dog, is preparing to change a veteran’s life. Community partnerships also turned generosity into direct impact, delivering more than 1,000 pounds of food, distributing over 600 pounds of pet food and helping 26 dogs and cats find permanent homes. Events that brought supporters together fueled this momentum, with charity golf tournaments and arena experiences generating more than $35,000 to support scholarships, emergency assistance and community programs.

POWERED BY PARTNERSHIP

None of this happens alone. Employees volunteer, Members donate and partners step forward. Every contribution stays local, strengthening communities and creating opportunity where it matters most. Small acts of generosity create meaningful change.

BUILDING WHAT COMES NEXT

The work continues. Guided by a clear north star, the Frontwave Foundation will keep strengthening communities, expanding opportunity and delivering help with dignity.

One partnership. One program. One life changed at a time.

Your support helps scholarships reach students,

delivers hygiene kits to neighbors in need and strengthens partnerships where support matters most. Together, we can continue turning compassion into action across our communities.

Frontwave Arena has quickly become a regional hub for entertainment and connection, hosting professional sporting events, concerts, graduation ceremonies, and more. The Arena brings thousands of people into Oceanside each month, supporting nearby businesses and elevating the visibility of our city. Being located near such a dynamic community asset is an exciting opportunity for the Chamber.

We are also fortunate to be located alongside TailoredSpace Oceanside, a modern co-working community for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and remote professionals. Having TailoredSpace just steps away creates new opportunities to connect with emerging business owners and innovators who are helping shape Oceanside’s future.

Because our new space includes a smaller conference room, we are shifting several of our regular gatherings including Tuesday Coffee, our Emerging Issues Forum, and other business meetings to partner locations throughout the city. This allows us to bring these gatherings into different business environments and neighborhoods, strengthen relationships, and highlight the organizations that support our work.

Our move to Ocean Ranch also places us closer to many of the industries driving Oceanside’s economic future, including manufacturing, biotech, food production, and technology. As the Chamber continues to expand programs in workforce development, business outreach, and leadership development, being in the center of this business corridor helps us stay aligned with the needs of our members and the direction of our city.

While we are excited about what lies ahead, we leave our longtime downtown home with deep gratitude. Our office at 928 North Coast Highway served as the Chamber’s home for nearly 40 years. It welcomed new business owners, served as a planning hub for our signature events, and brought together countless community partners who share our vision for a thriving and united Oceanside. It has been an important part of our 130-year story.

Our move reflects the Chamber’s commitment to evolving with our city and positioning ourselves to serve the business community even more effectively. We are proud to carry our downtown roots with us as we continue our work from a new location that reflects where Oceanside is growing next.

We look forward to welcoming our members, partners, and community friends to our new home in Ocean Ranch and continuing this work together in the years ahead.

Investing in Oceanside’s Future –One Rising Star at a Time

As the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce approaches its annual Rising Star Scholarship Awards ceremony on April 28th, we’re reminded how powerful this community can be when we rally around our young people. Since launching the Rising Star Scholarship Program in 2021, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Foundation has awarded nearly $150,000 in scholarships to more than 80 local students –thanks entirely to the generosity of our business and community partners.

These students represent the very best of Oceanside – not just for their academic effort, but for their perseverance. Many Rising Star recipients are overcoming challenges most adults would struggle to carry: the loss of a parent, serious health issues, financial hardship, unstable housing, or family situations that require them to grow up far too quickly. And yet, they show up. They work hard. They lead. They give back. They are determined to build a better future for themselves and their families.

The Rising Star Scholarship Fund exists for one simple reason: to ensure that a student’s circumstances do not define their ceiling. Scholarships help cover tuition, books, transportation, tools, and other essentials – often making the difference between taking the next step forward or having to put dreams on hold.

All scholarship donations made by April 1st will be distributed at this year’s April 28th awards event, allowing your gift to have an immediate, tangible impact. When you give, you’re not just supporting a

scholarship – you’re sending a powerful message to our students that Oceanside believes in them, stands with them, and is invested in their future.

Together, we can continue turning resilience into opportunity – and hope into momentum.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

DOWNTOWN OCEANSIDE

As Oceanside continues to plan for growth near the coast and core transit corridors, several major downtown projects have recently been approved. A mixed-use project on blocks 5 and 20, the final two blocks of the Downtown Nine Block Masterplan, will add 373 residential units in two mid-rise buildings near the beach and Pier View Way. About 17,400 square feet of ground-floor space for restaurants and shops will help bring activity to the plaza and support the expansion of local businesses.

Other approved projects, like 401 Mission and 901 Mission Avenue, across from Oceanside High School, will add hundreds of homes and thousands of square feet of retail and commercial space downtown. 401 Mission alone will offer

332 residential units and 18,682 square feet of retail space near public transportation and the waterfront.

The Oceanside Transit Center Redevelopment Project, led by North County Transit District and Toll Brothers Apartment Living, will upgrade the city’s main transit hub and add 547 residential units, a 170-room boutique hotel, and groundfloor shops and restaurants. Redevelopment of the nearby 810 Mission Avenue site will add 206 residential units, bringing the total to 753 new homes. The project will improve transit connections, adding public plazas and parking, aiming to boost the local economy and public transit use.
