NOW PLAYING

(April 23, 2021) The Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC) has recently awarded and distributed grants of over $110,000 provided by the state to aid businesses in the Ocean City designated Main Street District.

Approximately 40 businesses were assisted with these t funds as part of Phase I of this program. The balance of funds (about $25,000) is now available to assist businesses for Phase 2 of the COVID Grant Relief Program. These funds can be used to reimburse a downtown business for PPE and covid-related expenses in 2021. With limited grant funds, OCDC intends to spread the grant awards to as many businesses as possible. All awards from this program are at the discretion of the OCDC.

These materials and equipment must have been used to protect customers, owners, and employees in these commercial establishments as a result of the current covid crisis. Such items add an additional financial burden to these Ocean City businesses, particularly small businesses. The OCDC’s Main Street district is generally defined as from the Inlet to 17th Street and from the bay to the Boardwalk, and south of 15th Street along the Boardwalk.

An applicant cannot request funding for this program for identical items that the business has received compensation for from other covid–19 programs. The phase 2 program consists of reimbursement of equipment and supplies, already purchased to address covid-19 from March 2020 thru April 2021, and includes other items such as outside tables and chairs purchased to address covid conditions. This state funding is limited and businesses are requested to apply as soon as possible. Applicants must apply by April 30 for these phase 2 grant funds in order to be considered for this grant request.

The online grant application is intended to be moderately easy to complete and can be located on the homepage of the OCDC website at www.ocdc.org. Click on “OCDC Grant for COVID Relief Program.” After all entries are completed and materials uploaded, the applicant will receive a note stating the submission was properly completed.

Financial requests can be made for the following limits: • Minimum of $250 of financial assistance per business. • Maximum of $3,000 of financial assistance per business.

The applying business must have a current business license issued by the Town of Ocean City and be located in the designated Ocean City Main Street district. A map of the designated Main Street boundaries and full program is on the application page. A completed W-9 form must be provided with each application.

Only one application per business entity in the Main Street District will be accepted. The owner shall provide evidence of payment(s) (i.e., copy of check, paid receipt, …) made to contractor/purchaser along with a copy of the invoice for each payment request to be reimbursed by the OCDC. These invoices and proofs of payment can be uploaded on the online application.

For more information or questions on this grant, contact OCDC office at (410) 289-7739.
