Introduction to Improv

Have you ever been tongue-tied on a date or during a job interview? Have you ever wanted to be better at thinking on your feet? In this class, students will learn basic improvisational skills that can be applied to acting as well as life situations. Join while the class learns how to expand communication skills both verbally and physically. This is an activity-based class with minimal lectures, involving short scene work and games as a group and with partners in a fun and supportive environment.

Fundamentals of Mindfulness

Attendees of this class will learn concepts and skills of engaged mindfulness. This training includes practicing seated, walking, and standing meditation, body scanning, and stretching or yoga activities. Group discussion of the activities and hand-out materials will be provided, as well as on-site personal consultation with the instructor. The class will be based on the foundations of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. Upon successfully completing this course, students will have learned how to apply mindfulness in all areas of daily living. Benefits of a regular mindfulness practice include: affect tolerance (less stress, worry and anger), equanimity, better concentration and mental clarity, happier relationships, and improved coping and health management.

Be a Successful Dahlia Grower

Come join local Master Gardener Julie Moore and learn everything about being a successful dahlia grower. Julie is a renown award-winning dahlia grower and has her own dahlia business in Otis. Attendees are encouraged to bring all their questions and aspirations about dahlias and meet Julie in the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at the edge of the OCCC Lincoln City campus parking lot. The class will adjourn to a room in the college to talk dahlias.

This class is designed for massage therapists but is available to the general public. The content will will cover ethics and professional conduct, setting and maintaining boundaries, communications with clients and more, with open, round-table discussions. Participants will also address communication with clients and ways to deal with difficult issues with an open discussion of real-world situations other therapists in the field have faced, and how they dealt with them. Four CEU hours.

Process of Dying

This course is designed for the general public as well as massage therapists. The class will examine basic massage for patients and/or loved ones dealing with discomfort at end of life. Participants will also learn about the processes of death, and 11th-hour care. This is a helpful class for anyone wishing to prepare for the end of life with care and comfort.

Creating an Effective Estate Plan

This short course will address fundamental issues involved in creating an effective estate plan. The class will teach the strategies needed for effective management of assets as you age, including during periods of incapacity, and guidelines for accomplishing goals for assets upon death. The class will involve a discussion of the use of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives. The instructor will also consider questions about tax planning and retirement assets.

Real Estate Brokers License

Have you tried studying independently (and alone) for your Real Estate Broker’s License test? All too often, independent study grinds on for months and months longer than planned. This class is designed to keep attendees and classmates on track, week in and week out, as they work as a group and independently towards preparing to successfully take the Real Estate Broker License test. Yes, we know that there are cheaper independent study programs available. This course, though, proves the reliable axiom that one gets what one pays for. The first class will start Thursday, April 6 and will meet each Thursday night from 5:30-8:30 for 10 weeks. There will be one Saturday class on June 10 from 9 am-5 pm. The Saturday class is a review day.

Real Estate Property Managers

This course introduces the Oregon real estate property manager to licensing laws and rules including statutes within ORS696 pertaining to property management and OAR863. The course is designed to prepare students to take the State of Oregon Property Manager License Exam. This is the fastest way to qualify to take the exam, which covers the role of property managers, tenant relations, fair housing, lease agreements and more. Students must attend all evening class sessions and have online capacity to complete the self-study portion of this course. Those who pass this course are prepared to take the proctored Oregon Property Manager License exam, which is a required step to becoming a licensed property manager through the State or Oregon. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe real estate laws and rules that protect the Oregon consumer in need of property management services provided by a licensed property manager.
