@emilymterry   This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Carl Goodson Honors Program. Tonight’s annual Black and White Reception will include guests and special presentations to honor this milestone for the program.   “I did not know it was the 50th until I was talking to Dr. Joe Jeffers at Festival of Christmas,” said Dr. Barbara Pemberton, director of the Carl Goodson Honors Program. “I happened to ask him how old the program was and he told me it was 50 years – he was in the first group. So we have not had much time to put all of this together.”   Since December, Dr. Pemberton has been reaching

out to alumni of the Honors Program and also past directors, inviting them to return to campus for the Black and White Reception. Another special guest of the evening is Dr. Tim Goodson, the son of Dr. Carl Goodson, the founder and namesake of the program.   “Dr. Carl Goodson was a professor in the Pruet School of Christian Studies,” Pemberton said. “It was named for him not just because he started the program, but because he had a great vision for the program.”   It is this vision that has continued on and helped bring the Honors Program into its 50th year, which is an impressive anniversary for an organization of its kind.   “The fact that we have had our program for 50 years is really incredible,” Pemberton see HONORS z 3
