On a busy little street, in a busy little town, there was a shop called ‘Badger Books’.

It wasn’t a bookshop just for badgers though. Oh no. It was owned by Badger.

And it had all kinds of wonderful books.

Badger had worked there for fifty-two years, eleven months and nine days.

He could find any book you wanted. Though sometimes he was a little bit grumpy.

Badger Books had books for: Lions and tigers.

Peacocks and pandas.

Cats and crocodiles.

Dogs

and

dinosaurs. And lots more. Bears and blue whales.

One day, the shop bell went

'DING!'

Badger peered down and saw a small fox peering back at him. It was Rory from Fox & Son Tailers next door.

‘Yes?’ asked Badger.

‘Do you have the book about the jellyfish on the moon?’ asked Rory.

Badger had a think, and then another think.

‘Hmm, I don’t ... think I have that one,’ he said.

‘Oh,’ said Rory, disappointed.

‘But how about this amazing new book on unicorns?’ said Badger.

‘No, thank you,’ said Rory, and he left the shop.

The next day, Badger was putting giraffe books on the highest shelf.

'DING!'

‘Do you have the book about the jellyfish on the moon?’ asked Rory again. ‘The one where they meet the pirate octopuses ... in a giant pineapple boat?’

Badger had a think, and then another think. This time, he checked the stockroom, and the attic,

‘Oh,’ said Rory, disappointed once again. and the basement.

‘I really don’t think we have that book,’

he said, just a little bit grumpily.

'DING!'

‘Do you have the book about the jellyfish on the moon? The one where they meet the pirate octopuses ... in a giant pineapple boat ... and one of the pirates has only seven tentacles because a giant hammerhead shark has eaten one ... and the jellyfish have hot air balloons ...

and the scorpions from Saturn popped them all with their tails ... and then the jellyfish need to find a rainbow dragon to fly them down to earth ... and then the pirate octopuses’ boats can fly too … and there is a wishing tree … and narwhals ... and …’

'RORY!

STOP!

I ... DON'T ... HAVE... THAT ...

said Badger.

‘Oh,’ said Rory.

BOOK!'

‘If you want it, you’re going to have to write it yourself!

Now stop badgering me!’ said Badger. He really was quite grumpy this time.

Badger watched as Rory left the shop.

The next day came, but there was no little fox.

The shop was very quiet.
