Southern Africa has some of the most developed infrastructure in the continent. However, the region still faces numerous challenges, such as insufficient energy supply, highly priced and unpredictable transport, lack of low-cost access to information and communication technologies, and high numbers of people without access to adequate sanitation and safe drinking water. AFD finances infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic development and access to basic services, promoting the energy transition, and building cities that are sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change.
