THE HADLEY WAY
This term, students at Oasis Academy Hadley had the opportunity to take part in another national writing competition:
The Poetry Games. Students picked to write a poem for either Team Truth (a poem from the heart, revealing or sharing their thoughts and emotions) or Team Dare where students opted to speak up, voice an opinion or fight for what they believed in. Enfield High Achievers' Evening Congratulations to our talented Year 12 students who were invited to the Enfield High Achievers evening to celebrate their considerable successes at GCSE. We were delighted to attend the Enfield High Achievers' evening to celebrate the success of our year 11 pupils and to start them thinking about their University education and future career. The first part of the evening was a celebration where

students received an award from the Mayor of Enfield. The second part of the evening included workshops for young people and parents and a careers and progression market place with representatives from a range of universities and professional
organisations. Students and parents had the opportunity to meet colleagues from these organisations and discuss opportunities. We are very proud of the achievement of our girls and wish them every success in their A-levels and in the future.

Access Project On Thursday 7th December we invited our students' parents and tutors to come to the Academy to find out more about The Access Project and how best to support their children on their journey to a selective university. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents who were able to attend. I’d like to take the opportunity to reflect on some of the students in each year group who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the program. Haydarcan Toguz in Year 10 has met 6 times with his tutor, Nadia, since they were matched on and has 100% attendance. His tutor
We now have 41 students enrolled on the program from years 10 to 13, the most since The Access Project has been running at Oasis Academy Hadley - which is fantastic! Since September, they have clocked up an impressive 80 tutorials (as of 24th November). has contacted me to say he has shown real commitment in each of his tutorials; always arriving prepared, with the correct resources and ready to learn. She described him as ‘articulate and bright and engaged’ - well done, Haydarcan!
I’d like to congratulate Sameer Faruquee in Year 12, who has been meeting with his tutor, Connor, for the past few weeks to be tutored in Economics. Sameer has 100% attendance and I’ve had some really positive feedback from his tutor keep up the hard work, Sameer!
Samiya Abdulkadir in Year 11 has already attended 10 maths tutorials this year, already half-way to our Access Project target of 20 tutorials accross the year which is simply amazing! She travels each week to Liverpool Street to meet her tutor at Bloomberg. Well done, Samiya for continuing to remain committed to the program whilst dealing with the pressures of Year 11.
Finally, our superstar of Year 13 is Melisa Cengiz, she has 90% attendance this year and has attended 30 tutorials since she was matched with Anna just over a year ago. She has just submitted an application to study International Relations at five, highly selective universities and I look forward to seeing her succeed on her journey to a top university - well done, Melisa!

Anti-Bullying
Year 5 recently went on an exciting trip to the Science Museum to explore the depths of space for Science and Design Technology, as we will be making rockets.
Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space from 1934-1968.

Eugene Cernan was the last human to walk on the moon in 1872.
On Friday 17th November, my class and I got ready to go to the Science Museum in London. We took the train from Ponder’s End to Tottenham Hale, then the underground to South Kensington. Once we got to the museum we started exploring the space section of the museum. From my visit I have found out a lot of new facts about space, such as: During exploring, we were looking for place to sit down and eat our lunch. After that we were heading back to school. That was a very fun trip!
Just 12 people walked on the moon. Neil Armstrong along with Buzz Aidrin on 20th July 1969 were the first humans to walk on the moon. David Scott in August 1971 took a piece of the moon’s surface which was made out of olivine basalt and part of an ancient lava flow.
Odd Socks Day! Recently the Academy took part Anti-bullying week (13th – 17th November) as a way to get involved, take a stand against bullying and raise awareness within Hadley. Throughout the week students took part in various activities and workshops centring around the topic. Phase 1 held their very own

‘Odd Socks Day’ an opportunity for children to express themselves and appreciate individuality and uniqueness! At Oasis Academy Hadley we don’t want anyone to be a victim of bullying. If you feel that you are being bullied, the best thing to do is to tell someone so that they can help you.

Steppaz The Key to Success
Global Radio Visit
On the 9th December, a number of our students from the performing arts academy, ‘Steppaz’ took part in ‘The Key to Success’, an exciting end-of-year dance and theatre showcase where they told the story of three sisters who share a passion for dance.
On Friday 24th November, the BTEC Music Technology students went to visit Global Radio in Leicester Square.
However, it is not long until disaster strikes and the girls are pulled apart, forcing them to decide where the key to success truly lies.
Global own some of the UK’s most popular radio stations including Capital, Capital Xtra, Heart, Radio X and LBC. The group went to visit a team from The Big Music Project who work with 14-25 year olds interested in a career in the creative industries. They had a very inspiring presentation about what it takes to work in the music business and about the skills and experience they will need to make it.

The group were then taken on a tour of the radio stations and got to see behind the scenes, the highlight of which was being invited in to have a chat with Russel Brand and Noel Gallagher as they
This was a trip which we will all be remembering for a long time yet and has inspired the group to continue following their visions of working in the music industry.
Humanutopia Training
On the 3rd November, the year 9 Heroes received training from humanutopia.
To top it all off the group have been invited back to attend the Music Potential showcase at KoKo in Camden in May as an extra reward!
They came together to share their experiences on growing up and what they could do to help those younger in the academy get the most out of their life. The students had the most fantastic morning with Stevie and Sacha, and were joined by our year 5 students in the afternoon to practice their training.

Phase 1 Space Projects Year 5 had a Space science project over half-term and the children have come back with excellent models and posters about space. Showing the high expectations of our school and how they have proven this in their homework.
Royal Opera House Visit On Wednesday 23rd November, a mixed group of students went to the Royal Opera House to see a production of the ‘------’ by -----.
Choir Trip The KS2 Choir went off to Nightingale Academy on 14th November to perform at the Singing Festival, along with Nightingale Academy, Galliards and St Edmunds School. The students worked hard to prepare their performance by attending choir every week during their lunchbreak and they sang with confidence, energy and focus. Well done Choir! Niylah Bradnock

Ti’Nyha Harrison It was a superb show which has received great reviews and it was a treat to be able to watch this gripping play in such an atmospheric and authentic setting.
Although nearly 3 hours long and with some challenging language and ideas, the play was utterly engaging and pacey and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. This was a great visit and hope to have many more next year!

Dreams do Come True! Joel Idemudia (now Ekperigin) has hit the big time! After years of studying Dance at Oasis Academy Hadley and going on to join Wilkes Academy, Joel was successful in an audition to become a professional and full time Dancer in London’s West End production of ‘Thriller Live’.
Joel said “I am absolutely loving being a professional dancer, it is hard work but well worth it. I would like to thank Oasis Academy Hadley, especially Mrs Waterton, as well as the staff at Wilkes Academy who gave me the skills and
determination I needed to be successful”. Although Joel has a very busy schedule he has asked to teach some workshops at OAH to give something back after all the help and support he received here. Mrs Waterton went to see Joel perform over the half term and said “he was absolutely amazing, I’m so proud of him!”. From all of us at OAH we would like to say, “Well done Joel!” We are so proud of you!
Cake Sale for Rohingya Over a duration of 3 days, students and staff of Hadley put their hands in their pockets to raise money for the Rohingya appeal supporting and providing help to vulnerable families fleeing violence in Myanmar in Bangladesh. Each community was challenged to make the most money for the cause, and so worked hard with their peers during their breaktime to sell as many cakes and baked goods as possible.

On the 18th October, the Heroes enjoyed a fantastic session delivered by Katy, from WE. They played some team games, discussed key issues affecting their local and global communities and started planning projects to help others.
The Heroes had a fantastic afternoon with Katy, and together they have decided to run two projects. One focused on homelessness and the other on creating opportunities for others. The Heroes will continue meeting regularly to see their projects come to life.

Who’s at Hadley? Haynes Harriers started training on the Oasis Hadley Astro Turf in September. Richard Haynes the manager says, “We are North London's newest youth football club and we are looking for new players, any ability from novice to pro, girls and boys to join.

Our aim is to train and develop young players into being the best they can be. We play on Sundays in the Cheshunt Youth League. The Community Hub Hadley
What’s on at Hadley? Hub Community Garden
Oasis Hub Hadley’s community garden is officially underway. Students from the academy and members from our local community are joining together to create a beautiful and functional outdoor space, set to be open to the public by Spring next year. We will be growing fruit and vegetables, whilst learning about their nutritional value and how to make them into healthy and delicious snacks. Come and join us from 3:10pm on the 8th and 15th of December.

Programs include: Football, basketball, table sports, discussions, Music workshop, motor vehicle project, computer suite, Playstation 4 and member’s forum.
Hub Holiday Club During October half term, we ran another successful family holiday club. We had fun with autumn crafts, sports coach, games and activities. We went on a fabulous swimming trip where we used lots of energy where we played in the water, used lots of energy and practised our swimming skills. Every day we enjoyed a healthy lunch, eating all together and trying different foods. We are already planning and looking forward to the next club in February 2018.
