Pure Maple There's a gleam in his eye as Tom Cherry talks about the history of him and his wife Nita's maple syruping journey. Kenny

Rudolph started tapping maple trees 70 to 80 years ago with his dad on their land. Kenny then passed on his knowledge to Tom who in turn is looking forward to Kenny's grandson learning the ropes from him this year. You can certainly grasp his

excitement as he talks about this not being a money making venture, it's more about donating bottles to Veterans, nursing homes, friends, family and even bringing some with him on his bi-annual spring Alaska trip.

As the snow starts to melt, the sap begins to flow...you can rejoice that spring has arrived here in Minnesota and sugaring season has begun! To many, maple syruping is more often a recreational sport, a chance to get outside and take-in some much needed fresh air. The season for collecting maple sap is quite short depending on the weather, it can start sometime in the

beginning of March and usually goes into mid April. Sap really gets flowing when nights are below freezing and days are

warmer. Spring’s warmer temperatures coax sugar maple trees to turn stored starch back into sugar. Sap is made as the tree mixes ground water with the sugar, the sap is mostly crystal clear water with about 2% sugar. After collecting the sap, it is then boiled, filtered a few times and then bottled. It takes about 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup...now that’s a lot of time boiling the sap down to make syrup!

HISTORY Oak Realty was founded in 1974 when Don Bruggeman purchased Daryl Gunnarson Realty, and changed the name to Oak Realty after

its location on Oak Avenue, Annandale’s charmed Main Street. Our

red and white leaf was born and along with it, a tradition of providing quality real estate service in the Heart of the Lakes area.

In 1986 Don’s son Steve joined the business. Opportunities to own lakeshore property were abundant in those days. Lake homes and cabins in

the area ranged from $40,000-$100,000 and real estate companies literally held the keys to their front doors. The Sunday Star Tribune was widely-agreed to be the resource for new listings, and buyers often came through our office door with that ad in hand, eager to look at property.

We expanded into the 90's and outgrew the office on Main Street. In 1996 Oak built a new office with more space and visibility on Highway
