Exciting Progress at the Oakley Logistics Center In late 2019, the Oakley City Council approved the application for the Contra Costa Logistics Center (CCLC) and we celebrated a groundbreaking this past winter. Since then, construction has continued at a great pace. This project is being developed

by NorthPoint Development and is being constructed by CLAYCO. The CCLC project, at completion, will consist of 5 buildings totaling approximately 2 million square feet of Class A light industrial, warehousing, distribution, e-commerce fulfillA “tilt-up” construction process is being used at the new Oakley Logistics Center.

The Nomination Period is Now Open for Oakley’s 2020 General Municipal Election The City of Oakley will conduct its next General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 3rd. Voters will select three members to serve on the Oakley City Council.

The Nomination Period for this election runs now through August 7th. If an incumbent whose term is expiring should not file by 5:00 p.m. on August 7th. the nomination period will be extended until 6:00 p.m. on August 12th for nonincumbents only. Candidates must be registered to vote and reside within City of Oakley limits.

I understand both the very real fear of the pandemic spreading as well as the anxiety of a partially-closed economy. The City shares your concerns and frustrations and is doing everything possible to provide you with support .

In turn, we ask that you as proud Oakley citizens follow the safety precautions outlined by our national, state, regional, and local health agencies. I’m very proud to say there have been relatively few positive cases in Oakley due to the community’s diligence and that Oakley has always responded to the virus with compassion and resilience. I am confident that we can get through this public health crisis and the challenging recovery period.

There is undeniably an atmosphere of fear and anxiety about COVID-19, civil unrest, and the economy – all of which can be overwhelming for Oakley residents of all ages. I want to encourage you to turn to your City in these trying times. For example, our outstanding Recreation team has provided virtual camps and other activities for our youth and our Economic Development staff has reached out to small businesses to ensure they have a path forward.

Oakley Invests in Digital Local Business Directory The City of Oakley’s Economic Development department has invested in a digital business directory from a Bay Area company called Bludot Technologies. The goal of the directory is to better connect our residents with local businesses and Economic Development staff.

“We understand the economic hardships that our small businesses face with shutdowns and we wanted a way to help residents be informed about how they can support their local businesses” said Dwayne Dalman, Oakley’s Economic Development Manager.

As businesses reopen from the shelter-in-place and other

restrictions, the City wanted a way to allow residents to know which businesses were

open and businesses to be able to communicate their status and what they are offering.

Oakley’s directory can be found at open.bludot.io/cities/ Oakley/businesses.

Businesses will be able to communicate with the community in a number of ways by registering on the City’s Bludot portal and listing their new business or editing their existing business. The CCLC will employ in excess of 1,800 people on-site with ancillary benefits not only to Oakley, but the surrounding region.

Once the project received its initial City approval, NorthPoint went to work and submitted their required permits to begin construction, which commenced in the beginning of 2020. Since the construction started, it has progressed very quickly and in a matter of a few months the project is taking shape.

Each building will be a constructed using tilt-up concrete panels. The foundation and building walls for Building #1 are all up, and the office space and roofing will be next. This building, when finished, will total approximately 150,000 square feet. They have also started construction on Building #2, which is approximately 450,000 square feet. Here are some interesting facts about the construction of Building #1:  The heaviest tilt panel weighs approximately 200,000 pounds  There are 40 to 50 cubic yards of concrete per panel  The foundation is 5,000 cubic yards of concrete  The crane used to lift the concrete tilt up panels in place is the Manitowac 385 ton crane with a 197 foot boom height

Exciting Construction Developments Around Town It’s exciting to see all of the private development construction projects that are continuing to progress in Oakley, even in the midst of the pandemic. These residential and commercial projects are a great asset to our growing community that brings several additional amenities and improvements to our City infrastructure.

Several commercial projects are open or opening soon, such as the 7-Eleven Convenience Store/ Chevron Gas Station within the Laurel Plaza Shopping Center located at the corner of Laurel Road and O’Hara Avenue and the Arco Gas Station project located at the corner of Laurel Road and Empire Avenue. This second project will have off-site improvements that include a new signal at the project entrance and a signal modification to Laurel Road and Empire Avenue that will install a second left turn lane for both directions. This will significantly improve the traffic flow at this intersection. The Cypress Self Storage project, located at East Cypress Road and Picasso Drive, is also making significant progress and is slated for completion in July.

There are also currently six residential subdivision projects active in the City at various stages of construction. The Delaney Ranch subdivision, located at East Cypress Road and Sellers Avenue has completed the park and lake improvements and is currently in the second phase of the East Cypress Road widening between Delaney Parkway and Knightsen Avenue.

The Duarte Ranch Subdivision has completed the park improvements and is nearly complete with the streetscape improvements along Laurel Road and Rose Avenue. The Shiloh Subdivision located near Main Street and Simoni Ranch Road has also begun construction of their model homes, which are slated to open by the end of July. The off-site improvements for this development include the widening of Main Street and a secondary access point from Simoni Ranch Road.

The Alicante Subdivision located next to the Raley’s Shopping Center and the Vines Subdivision located near Oakley Road and Live Oak Avenue have completed mass grading and are currently working on undergrounding wet and dry utilities.

The Cypress Estates Subdivision located near Fuschia Way and Mallard Lane recently completed rough grading and will commence with utility installation soon.

And scheduled to start later this summer is the Twin Oaks Senior Residence Project located next to the Lucky’s Shopping Center on Main Street.

Recreation Division Adapts Community Activities While obviously many of our fun community events have had to be canceled due to the virus, the Oakley Recreation Division has worked diligently to make as many events as possible available online. This Spring, we held a “virtual” Oakley’s Got Talent Competition, and created the Celebrate the Class of 2020 project that featured photos of graduates on the Civic Center marquee.

Our summer camps have transitioned from the normal Summer Blaze and Youth CORE Summer Camps to Summer Fun Day Camp – which was originally scheduled to provide day care for essential workers, but the program was able to be extended to all children based on updated County Health Orders.

These orders do require that we limit the number of participants that can attend so we have pivoted and are also offering weekly Virtual Camp in a Box which includes take and make crafts and Zoom activities.

Economic Development will be using the digital directory to better communicate with the local business community about business resources and programs available during the pandemic as well Economic Development activities and programs.

We are also reimagining all of our events to see what we can do that follows state and county guidelines.

El Centro Logistico Empieza a tomar forma El Consejo aprobó la solicitud para el Centro de Logística de Contra Costa (CCLC) el 17 de diciembre de 2019. Este proyecto está siendo desarrollado por NorthPoint Development y CLAYCO lo está construyendo.

Cuando este completo, este proyecto consistirá de 5 edificios con un total de aproximadamente 2.0 millones de pies cuadrados de espacio industrial ligero, apropiado para negocios cuales necesiten espacio para almacenamiento, distribución, cumplimiento de comercio electrónico y fabricación ligera. Se anticipa que el Centro proveerá más de 1,800 empleos.
