Dear Oak Knoll School Community, We all have it. That voice inside that propels us forward each day. It shows us the way when we need it most and rejoices in our happiness. Cornelia calls it the voice of the Holy Spirit. We all have it, and when we listen to it, it shows us the path forward.

The educational program, the priorities we set and the policies we follow are all guided by the Holy Spirit.

It is thanks to your generosity and faith that we are able to work toward the mission of Oak Knoll School each and every day.

Your contribution to the 2020-21 Fund for Oak Knoll helped us to raise more than $1 million for the sixteenth year in a row and funded projects including: • • • • •

Expanding guidance counseling support in the Lower and Upper schools.

Increasing support in our Upper School science program.

Establishing the new seventh grade confidence-building EmpowHER program.

Reintroducing the Lower School newspaper.

Defraying COVID-related costs for supplies, additional maintenance services, and the food service program.

• Installing HVAC UV lighting systems in major spaces on campus to keep our buildings healthy and safe.

• Enhancing the PA system for the school and create student access to campus grounds from Larned Road.

As we enter the new year, we continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit and there is much to be excited about. We are just two years away from the 100th anniversary of Holy Child education at Oak Knoll and our upcoming Strategic Master Plan, Campus Master Plan and Mission Effectiveness Committee (MEC) processes will help light the way.

I would like to thank my predecessor, Tim Saburn, for all of his hard work, dedication and determination as he led us through the 2020-21 Fund for Oak Knoll campaign. It is through his work, and the voice of the Holy Spirit, that we are positioned for such growth and prosperity.

2020-21 ANNUAL REPORT Dear Friends, On behalf of the Oak Knoll Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to share Oak Knoll’s Annual Report for the 2020-21 school year. And what a year it was. As we thank Tim Saburn for his 16 years of service to Oak Knoll and welcome Jennifer Landis as our new Head of School, we do so with deep gratitude for their leadership. They were an incredible team, and Jen has embraced her new role with grace, wisdom, energy and grit.

Thanks to you, 2020-21 represents another year of more than $1 million raised in support of the Fund for Oak Knoll. These dollars directly support today’s students and allow us to attract and retain the very best students, faculty and staff. The pages that follow are a testament to the year’s accomplishments and to our shared sense of community and core values.

During its nearly 100 year history, Oak Knoll has always strived to meet the challenges and opportunities of the times. This has enabled OKS to thrive and grow while staying true to its mission. As the school embarks on its next round of strategic planning, we do so with tremendous momentum, robust enrollment, and excitement for the years ahead. We look forward to sharing the Strategic Plan with you later this year.

Oak Knoll held its second annual virtual run, the We Are One Run, on May 15, 2021. Our participants walked or ran a mile, 5K or 10K at the location of their choosing.

The proceeds raised supported the Oak Knoll Emergency Fund, which provides tuition assistance to families in the Oak Knoll community who suffered financial losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

THE BIG GIVE On June 9, 2021, the Oak Knoll community came together to raise more than $95,000 during the school’s first-ever giving day called The Big Give.

ENDOWMENT Gifts to Oak Knoll’s endowment are important expressions of support for the School’s future. When contributing to an endowment fund, a donor’s intent is that the principal from the gift be used to generate earnings for the School in perpetuity. JOANN LUCEY AINSWORTH ’64 SCHOLARSHIP FUND Est. 2013

Established by generous members of the Oak Knoll Community, the Joanne Ainsworth Scholarship Fund supports, annually, one or more Lower School families with a financial award to be used toward payment of tuition. The intention behind the fund is to alleviate the financial strain of a private education on families who are committed to Catholic education for their children, but who struggle to meet the Lower School tuition requirements. The award is given on a year-to-year basis, and support for the chosen family or families may or may not extend beyond a single year. Decisions are made at the discretion of Oak Knoll school leadership with special consideration for families with more than one child attending the Lower School.

The Saburn Fund for Experiential Education was established in honor of Tim Saburn, who retired after serving for 16 years as the Oak Knoll’s Head of School. Tim is a firm believer in the life-changing power of experiential and service-based learning. THE CAMBRIA FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP The Cambria Family Scholarship, established in 2020, funds tuition for a deserving Upper School student(s) who promotes diversity at the school — with diversity defined broadly to include race, ethnic background and immigration status, socio-economic factors, religion, and other circumstances.

The family believes that everyone deserves an education and environment akin to that which Oak Knoll offers, and that the student body and school community as a whole are enriched by its diversity.

John Cambria notes why the scholarship was established: I n October of 1997, my wife and the mother of Catie, Jeannie and Luci, passed away from metastatic breast cancer. Although I knew very well that the day was coming, being a single father with three young daughters aged 13, 10 and 7, was daunting. My principal fear and concerns were that my motherless children would be challenged in their ability to flourish, to succeed, and to adjust in their lives to our new harsh reality. They had thrived in their grammar school which was a community of mutually supporting folks. As Catie was about to start high school, I was focused on making sure that she would be nurtured as well as educated. It soon became clear that OKS was our best choice. The rest, as the saying goes, is history. Catie, Jeannie and Luci all went on to be sheltered, fostered, and driven by the excellence and love that are the hallmarks of OKS. I cannot overstate the relief and gratitude I felt as my girls went through their high school years and then onto first rate colleges (Princeton and Northwestern).

They are now young adults and Catie has blessed me with two wonderful grandchildren. I am immensely proud of the three of them, not just because of their responsibility and success as members of society, but because of the people they have become and the values they will inculcate in their own children. They have blessed me with three wonderful grandchildren. I know that their mother has been smiling with equal satisfaction. I made a vow to myself long ago that I would find a way to thank OKS, and this Scholarship is our way of doing just that.

The generosity of the Cambria family allows Oak Knoll to fulfill its Catholic mission, and ensure that Oak Knoll remains a vibrant learning environment.
