Dear Oak Knoll School Community, I am pleased to share with you the 2015-16 Annual Report. This publication is our annual celebration of the remarkable achievements made possible by the generosity of the donors who support the vision and mission of Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child. We are truly a blessed community. Thanks to you, our school operates from a position of financial strength. The annual fund raised more than $1 million for the eleventh year in a row, allowing us to continue to offer robust educational programming in our Lower School while providing a powerful college prep program in the Upper School. In addition to programmatic enhancements, your gifts helped us to significantly upgrade our campus technology as well as achieve financial independence as requested by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus.

Your generosity toward Oak Knoll also allowed us to: • • • • • • • • • • •

Introduce new math curriculum in grades K-3 Purchase additional music equipment for the Lower School Fund the freshman bridge program Fund Upper School robotics tools Fund new athletic team uniforms Purchase additional AEDs for the athletic program Purchase additional bleachers at Chatham Fields Purchase a softball infield cover at Chatham Fields Install new campus signage and poles Expand the Upper School laptop program Enhance the lunch program

While this list does not include everything your annual fund donations supported, these are some of the most important items. Our students, faculty and staff will directly benefit from your kindness, and for that I am forever grateful. Thank you for supporting our 2015-16 Annual Fund. 2015-16 ANNUAL REPORT Dear Friends, On behalf of the Oak Knoll Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to share with you Oak Knoll’s Annual Report for the 2015-16 fiscal year. To each of you highlighted in the pages that follow, we extend our sincerest gratitude for your generosity. Without you, so much would be left undone. With you, the 2015-16 Annual Fund exceeded its $1 million goal for the eleventh year in row.

As we look back on this fiscal year, I also marvel at the dynamism of our campus and the excellence our students, faculty and staff bring to bear to ensure that we meet not just the day-to-day needs of the school, but also the emerging “wants of the age.” It is remarkable to witness how the physical changes to our campus have enhanced our shared experience and supported the life of this community.

Oak Knoll is in a healthy financial position with a strong endowment, an operating surplus, superb Annual Fund giving and a successful Capital Campaign. We are staying true to our Catholic mission and values as a board and school administration, faculty and staff. Plus, we have great students and families.

In addition to our outstanding fundraising achievements for the 2015-16 school year, Oak Knoll has completed the long process of gaining financial independence.

By taking this step, Oak Knoll guarantees its perpetual affiliation with the Catholic Church while ensuring the school’s financial stability. We have also completed our latest round of strategic planning, developing key initiatives that will see us through the next five years. These include marketing our school to its full advantage, keeping tuition affordable and ensuring our facilities continue to support our programs.

To our board and trustee emeriti, I extend my warmest thank you for your dedication to Oak Knoll and your commitment to advancing the school to new heights.

I am proud to represent Oak Knoll as its board chair. I know that maintaining our mission and excellence as we embark on this next chapter with financial independence is possible thanks to the leadership and vision of Tim Saburn, his administrative team, and faculty and staff without peer. Most importantly, the accomplishments we share with you today, and those that will come in the years ahead, are a testament to your generosity and confidence in Oak Knoll.

ENDOWMENT Gifts to Oak Knoll’s endowment are important expressions of support for the school’s future. When contributing to an endowment fund, a donor’s intent is that the principal from the gift be used to generate earnings for the school in perpetuity. Income from endowment funds may be used to support the general operations of the school or a specific area of interest to the donor, such as scholarship aid or faculty professional development.

ACORN SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT Est. 1997

Income generated from this fund supports Oak Knoll’s need-based scholarship program for Lower and Upper School students.

JOANNE LUCEY AINSWORTH ’64 SCHOLARSHIP FUND Est. 2013

Established by generous members of the Oak Knoll Community, the Joanne Ainsworth Scholarship Fund supports, annually, one or more Lower School families with a financial award to be used toward payment of tuition.

The intention behind the fund is to alleviate the financial strain of a private education on families who are committed to Catholic education for their children, but who struggle to meet the Lower School tuition requirements. The award is given on a year-to-year basis, and support for the chosen family or families may or may not extend beyond a single year. Decisions are made at the discretion of Oak Knoll School leadership with special consideration for families with more than one child attending the Lower School.

Established to honor the memory of Senora Beatriz Bloom, Spanish teacher at Oak Knoll from 1991 until her death in 1997, this fund’s income supports foreign language programs.

Established by Alvin V. and Sally Shoemaker in honor of Joan Beale Brennan, former Oak Knoll guidance counselor, and in memory of Joan’s mother, Isabelle Beale, the yearly income from this fund provides a partial tuition for middleincome students who otherwise would not qualify for financial aid.

Campion Center “Take-a-Seat” Campaign The Oak Knoll performing arts program is successful, in part, due to the original supporters of the Mother Mary Campion Center for the Performing Arts in 199394. When we began the update of the Campion Center in 2015, which included replacing the original 360 theater seats, we wanted to be sure we exercised our best stewardship in honoring those who helped with the initial construction. A new plaque – which is prominently displayed at the entrance of the Campion Center – serves as a permanent testament to the generosity of those original donors who “set the stage” for the achievements of our performing arts program.
