PRESIDENT’S CORNER Hi Key Clubbers! The month of August passed by so fast, and suddenly it’s September. That means Club Rush, actual tests and doing stuff in school, and getting back into the daily school grind. It’s tough, but I’m so excited! The main thing I’d like to talk about for this monthly newsletter is Club Rush. I really encourage you all to join again because we would love to have you back! I can’t tell you how disappointing it is to update the roster and red out someone’s name because they weren’t on the paid list. ): On that note, concerning member dues—I know Key Club can get super expensive, and it really is unfortunate. If I could make Key Club free for everyone, then I would without even one doubt. Unfortunately, there are Key Club International fees, and Key Club Cali-Nev-Ha district fees for our club to pay. But they’re not all for naught so they can get rich off of us! What it really goes towards is charities like MNT/PTP, insurance towards your membership, and your pins and membership ID cards. Regardless, the perks of becoming a member is endless. SUCH AS, attending Fall Rally South! Our interest meeting is on Friday, September 11 in Mrs. V’s room and it would be so great if we had tons of people going to Fall Rally. Most people have their “Key Club moment” during Fall Rally because there’s just so much electric spirit and friendship buzzing around in that amphitheater (not only because we’re the CNH Bees). I guarantee you will have an amazing time not only cheering with Division 30 South and making new friends from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii, but also riding all
the rides at Six Flags. Last year, D30S won the spirit stick, and if you were on the fence about going and ended up not going, don’t miss out this time because D30S is coming back even bigger and better than before! Aside from all the business, albeit fun business, stuff, I hope you are all finding your new high school years to be accommodating and hopefully stressfree (although I know first-hand that being stressfree is almost impossible). If you ever need help with anything, don’t be afraid to ask me for help and I would be glad to answer with as much as I remember! School can be tough, but friends (especially ones you make by volunteering!!) make it better. Now for the quote of the month: “Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.” –Marie Curie If you ever feel like giving up and burning all your work and life stresses, please don’t! We all get through high school, and Oxford has a supportive community because we’ve all been through, or are going through, that same struggle you are going to. It may feel like forever, but know that you can handle it, you just have to push through it. Everything works out in the end. On that note, I’ll see you at our table at Club Rush! Keep shining!

Hey Key Clubbers, I hope everything is going sun-tastic with the start of the new school year! For those of you who don’t know who I am, I am Jennifer La, your current bulletin editor of this term! My job is to make these lovely newsletters for y’all to be informed and updated on both division and club news! Additionally. If you ever walked by the
science building, I update the Key Club bulletin board in the 200 building! Come and check it out if you have time too! It looks beautiful if I do say so myself. And shout out to all the volunteers who helped me create it! It turned out absolutely amazing!
Furthermore, in this newsletter, we have recaps of our past events and of course, our on going events. If you're inspired to serve and appear in the newsletters. please write articles about our events and send them to me, Emily, or Jeniffer! You can be key club famous! Our information is in the Call Us Maybe? Page. Well, Happy Labor Day weekend! Enjoy it while it last! Our next vacation...it will be a quite a while! I’ll see you next month! Talk soon! Club Rush is just around the corner now. Because the board has been discussing Club Rush plans since summer, it’s not new to me that Club Rush is a big deal. After all, how Club Rush goes dictates how successful Key Club is for the rest of the school year! Club Rush is often such a fun time, and often the turning point of the Key Club year. After Club Rush last year, my term was over before I knew it. Now that my very last Club Rush is coming up, one that I would be in charge of organizing in order to facilitate Key Club’s growth, I feel a diverse mixture of happy, nervous, scared, stressed, and overwhelmed. I want Key Club to be so, so successful and even if I am trying my best, sometimes things just become far too overwhelming. Especially now, first semester of senior year, it’s an intense grind to second semester when I can just chill. But for now, Club Rush has been on my mind because this time period has always been so stressful: Fall Rally, Club Rush and member retention, and college apps (in terms of all presidents before me). I find it interesting that the next time I write another article, Club Rush will have been done and over with—I hope that the new board members really enjoy what really is their first Club Rush and hope that Key Club will reach even greater heights.

Our lovely president, Emily, has very high hopes for this year, as shown by her goal for the number of recruited members. With my personality, though, I can’t help but fear that we won’t reach our goal. So many things can go wrong during Club Rush. What if no one sees our table? What if people don’t care about the sun pins? What if we lose the sun costume? What if I say the cheer wrong? What if… what if…? To other people, these worries are rather silly. After all, how can anyone miss our table, surrounded with Key Clubbers in yellow bowties? And who wouldn’t want the adorable little suns? And how could we lose such a huge, bright-yellow sun? And how can I mess up the cheer I love—the cheer I’ve already chanted so many times? Even if all these things somehow happened, true Key Clubbers will still fall in love with the club. There are so many things to be mesmerized by: the fellow Key Clubbers, Mrs. Vosskuhler, Mr. Lamont, the volunteer hours, the volunteer events, the people you help, the pledge, the cheer, and so much more. With this in mind, I’m so excited to meet those who will be captivated. Needless to say, I’m nervously anticipating the day I can wear my black blouse and yellow bowtie.

The 6th Annual Japan Fair took place at the OC Fairgrounds this year, exposing attendees to the vast and diverse culture of Japan through arts, music, and most importantly, food. At the festival, both volunteers and attendees received the opportunity to experience a variety of cultural exhibits, live entertainment, folk dances, exotic fashion, and authentic food from Japanese culture. Volunteers from both Western and Oxford Academy Key Club worked at a variety of different jobs throughout the event. Some were stationed at the entrance and charged with collecting tickets, interacting firsthand with the staff and attendees, while some manned the activities table, handing out prizes for the shooting booth. On the other hand, a majority of volunteers worked at the food booths for the larger part of their shifts. Personally, I worked at the food booth where we met and worked alongside people from foreign cultures. From this opportunity, we had the chance to interact with people our age from Japan, which to me was really cool because we learned a lot about their story and culture from small talk. The workers were exuberant to learn from our culture and vice versa, providing an eye-opening experience for both volunteers and the workers! Not going to lie, I was actually really happy to see such a large number of volunteers showing up the event. It touched my heart to see such dedicated volunteers working their shifts :’) Also, to all of you freshmen possibly reading this article, I HIGHLY encourage you to volunteer because these events create irreplaceable memories.

WHAT IF you can save a baby’s life? WHAT IF you could keep a family whole? WHAT IF you can change the world forever? The united force of the Kiwanis Family and UNICEF has aimed to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus that kills millions of mothers and their new born babies each and every year. By October 2015, these organizations hoped to end MNT from the face of the Earth, but this is only possible with YOUR HELP. In the past few years, the Eliminate Project has erased MNT from over 20 countries, including China, Madagascar, Iraq, and Ghana! And recently, we have been able to eliminate MNT from India! With a dollar and 80 cents, we are able to save a mother and her child.
CONGRATULATIONS , we reached 100 million dollars! 10 more million to go! Do your part by doing all you can to reach our goal and eliminate MNT off the Earth!
