At last, we have elected our executive board officers for next term! Without a doubt, it’s going to be interesting to see how they are able to manage such a strange term in the 2021-2022 year. After all, it’s the only term that’s going to be both virtual and physical, presumably. Regardless, I have a lot of faith in Oxford Academy’s leaders. Lydia has been unofficially training for this term through her previous 3 years. Her work and impact have been made apparent for years already, and surely they have prepared her for the position of President by now. Tiffany has also been in Key Club for very long. Her dedication towards Key Club events has always been high no matter her position, and planning events as Vice President won’t be a problem for her. Devanshi and Leann are a year younger, but I know they have already built an unbreakable passion for Key Club that will motivate them through MRFs and fundraisers respectively. Ultimately, I’m glad that I was able to cultivate some amazing executive officers in my term so that they are well-established for their own term. And hopefully, they will continue allowing Key Club to be a welcoming family for the entire club to confide in!

This year, much of OAKC will be graduating, and it’s almost time to say goodbye to the seniors. To, Timmy, Lance, Kenny, Giang, Helen, and Tobi; thank you for all the great memories and the dedication and time that you have put in for Key Club. It’s a bittersweet goodbye but we wish you luck on your future endeavors and college years! I hope that everyone had a restful Spring Break and was able to relax for a bit! Personally, I caught up on sleep and studied for my upcoming AP Exams. It’s the final few months before the semester ends, with just a couple more months before we go on summer break, so I wish everyone the best of luck with their studies in this final stretch. I can’t believe time has passed by so quickly, it feels like yesterday that 2021 had began.

Tiffany Ong | 11 | Project Chair This month, OAKC held a joint social with Whitney, and it was Valentine's Day themed! All of the activities were super interesting and engaging, so the overall event was really fun to attend. We started with a soulmate icebreaker, and it was interesting to see everybody's different interests and preferences when people were answering questions. Then, we all went to different breakout rooms to bond more with one another in a smaller group. Although we got to choose our breakout rooms, I didn't sign up for one until the last minute so I wasn't really able to be with anybody I knew. But it was still fun to be in a breakout room with a bunch of Whitney Key Clubbers and get to know them better! The first activity we did was Valentine's Themed Mad Libs. My breakout room created a love story about toes and feet. :') The activity was really fun to do, though, and hearing all of the other stories was really entertaining too. After going back to the main room to listen to the other groups’ stories, we went into our breakout rooms again and did another activity, which was a scavenger hunt. One of the things to "search" for was a haiku, which I think was a really fun and creative idea. Everyone wrote a haiku, and it was cool hearing everyone's different ideas and ways of approaching it. Some were happy, some were sad, and some were funny too! Our last activity that we did was Scattergories, where we came up with a bunch of words related to Valentine's Day. Whichever group that came up with the most words would win, but I don't think my group got very close. Still, it was really fun to come up with words and I liked to listen to other groups' words too! One of the groups came up with the word "chicken nuggets" but unfortunately, it didn't count. :( Lastly, we did a service project which was really interesting because we got to write cards for patients at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital! I enjoyed this service project because there were a bunch of cute drawings to choose from for the cards, and I loved writing meaningful messages to the children. I hope it put a smile on their face! Overall, the Oxford x Whitney Palooza was a very fun-filled event where we got to both have fun and do some service! Even though we've been in a virtual setting for almost a year now, I feel like having events like this is what really keeps me going. I hope we can have more events like this in the future, where we have the opportunity to meet new people and have a lot of fun with them!

First Annual Palooza | 10 | Devanshi Kothari Our first annual palooza was held this past month with a Valentine’s Day theme! The social was attended by members of our club and Whitney Key Club members as well. First of all, as members were waiting and even before the Palooza, members filled out a Love Box Google Form where they anonymously sent positive, cheerful messages to other attendees that were announced during the break. Additionally, attendees wore Valentine’s Day colors like red or pink as well as utilized virtual backgrounds that were made according to the theme of Valentine’s Day. As we entered the zoom call, we heard fun music and we were introduced to the different leads of the event. Then we played a few rounds of Soulmate as an icebreaker which was a great activity to help get everyone to know each other! Afterward, we were split into breakout rooms and played multiple games. One game we played was a version of Mad Libs that were super interactive as members in the rooms chose random words based on the category given, creating funny and amusing stories. Another game we played was a scavenger hunt where attendees had to find random items in their rooms and whoever found it first was given a point. In all, the games were extremely engaging and entertaining. Following the games and a quick break filled with announcements of Love Box messages, we participated in a service project. In this service project, we wrote cards for the St. Jude Hospital to be sent to young children in the hospital. Attendees picked out cards and wrote sweet messages for the hospital. I appreciated and enjoyed this service project, especially with Valentine’s Day coming up. Additionally, throughout this palooza, they raffled off a gift basket to fundraise! This was an interesting and pleasant way to fundraise as Key Clubbers. Overall, this event was refreshing and lively, combining Valentine’s Day with fundraising and serving our community! I loved seeing all the members and meeting new members! I hope we can continue the tradition of an annual palooza.
