Hello suns! My name is Lydia Lee, and I’ll be serving as your OAKC President for the 21-22 term. The upcoming term will be absolutely amazing, so be excited for a great year. As President, I’ll try my best to ensure that your Key Club experience is truly memorable to the point that just the words “Key Club” provides serotonin. Especially as we grow deeper into a year and transition back to in-person, the number of events will only increase and get better as I and the other officers become more experienced within our own positions. As a new term begins, it’s always important to reflect upon our past accomplishments and achievements. In the past term, we raised over 10,000 service hours which was an all-time high for OAKC. It is extremely impressive, and I hope to continue this amazing trend and rate of growth! Furthermore, I can only hope for the members of our club to continue to prosper! With Christina as our LTG and Helen Tran, a freshman, appointed as the division Executive Assistant, I have high hopes for the future of our club. Furthermore, with Sofia, Megan, and Kaylin all part of DLT, it goes to show the size of our club and its influence within D30S. Overall, I hope you’re as excited for the new term as I am! I promise to give my all in everything for Key Club, and I hope to see all of you at a service project or meeting in the near future!

Hey Suns! What’s Poppin! How has everyone’s summer been going? From traveling to extra tutor sessions, I’m sure everyone’s summer has been immensely busy. However, here’s a reminder to take some time off for yourself and relax! That’s what summer is for after all. Congratulations on finishing a school year successfully, and I hope that Oxford Key Club can better your next school year!. So what are you waiting for? Flip through the next few pages to reflect back on the month of June and see what Oxford Key Club has been doing! In person service events have restarted, and there’s been an abundant different sign ups so make sure to grab a friend and attend! My freshman year I remember coming to my first service event without a friend terrified because I didn’t know anyone yet the board had welcomed me and made me feel like I was truly apart of the club.

Tiffany Ong | 12 | Vice President This month was honestly one of the most stressful months of the year for me, and I know that most other students can relate too. With so much testing going on, like APs and finals, I had so much to study for and had a bunch of other things to do as well. Luckily, during the May DCM this year, we had the opportunity to either participate in stress-relieving activities or join a room dedicated to studying. First, we had the monthly DCM part, where all the members were updated about old and new division events. Some clubs also publicized their upcoming fundraisers, and I was honestly really surprised by how many fundraisers were being hosted this and next month. After the DCM portion of the event, we were given options to join different breakout rooms. There was a karaoke room, quiet room, social room, and service/movie room. Since I had a lot to study for, I joined the quiet room to study the entire time and the lo-fi music playing was really relaxing! Although I didn’t join any of the other rooms, they all seemed super fun and I wish I could’ve joined if I didn’t have to study so much. But I heard that the movie that they watched in the service/movie room was The Bee Movie, which seemed interesting. After the breakout rooms, we had a few closing remarks. Christina asked about how APs and finals were going for everyone, and quite a lot of people talked about the APUSH exam, which I didn’t have a good time thinking about again. :’) But overall, the DCM was a great event and it was the perfect time to either destress from exam season or study for it. I hope we can have more DCMs like this again soon!

Kelly Vo | 10 | Tech Editor Ah, lovely summer has arrived. School is almost over (two more days), and no more homework, no more tests, no more stress. And as always, a great way to start it is with a May DCM: De-stress into summer. During this DCM, we got to see a little more of the DLT team take action, with the planning and speaking during the introduction. We can’t forget about the abundance of fundraisers as well (go support!). As each of the different schools came together to kick off their wonderful summer, they not only got to have an amazing time, but the ability to choose what they were going to do! The four rooms being: the Quiet Room, the Karaoke Room, the Service & Movie Room, and the Social & Game Room. I had chosen the Quiet Room, as I needed to finish a couple of finals for the school year. The music in the room was perfect to fit the studying vibe (with the occasional disturbances), and I got a decent portion of my work done in that good hour (maybe 1 and ½?). From what I heard, the Karaoke room seemed to have fun singing (of course), but not sure about the Service & Movie Room. The Social & Game Room had played Gartic phone and had a couple of drawing lessons going on in there. Though it would have been nice to have seen the other rooms, I definitely had a great time and it seemed like everyone felt the same way. We ended off the DCM with a great recap and some summary questions, as well as the questions of finals and AP’s. People seem to dread World History (not looking forward to it), but it seemed to go somewhat well with everyone. And with that, the DCM ended, and summer grew closer, but that definitely did not mean the end of fun events.

Rachel Kim | 10 | Historian May was a busy month for most of us. We all had our shares of stressful times from finals to AP exams while preparing for our busy schedules as the school year was coming to an end. I myself had multiple tests to study for and projects to complete! Fortunately, the May DCM was there to cheer us up and provide time for “de-stressing.” It felt good seeing so many students enjoy their time at the May DCM with a smile, momentarily forgetting about the hectic times we are going through. Having projects and studying to work on, I spent most of my time in the Quiet Room. Michelle, the DLT member in charge of the room, prepared a fun selection of lo-fi music for us to listen to while we studied! I used to listen to a lot of lo-fi at the start of quarantine but I gradually turned to other genres (which sometimes actually distracts me from my work). But the lo-fi music helped me focus on my tasks and it was a nice way to feel the nostalgia of when quarantine had just started. Nevertheless, it was fun seeing a lot of people present and working “together,” even if it was on Zoom. I also briefly visited the Service Room where everyone worked hard to write letters for the elderly and the May Service Week while watching the classic Bee Movie!! Just like the bees in the movie, we busy service bees worked to bring happiness to our seniors. Glimpsing at the movie also brought back old memories of watching Barry and his friends. In addition, this was the first time seeing our new DLT and EAs leading a DCM! As one of our own Oxford Key Club members is an EA, it really felt like a new start to the term. Nevertheless, the fun of DCMs is still there!! I think this DCM was a very creative and relaxing event that motivated and cheered us up in these times. It was a great way to distract us from the stress in the Social, Service, and Karaoke Rooms, and also provide us time and comfort while studying in the Quiet Room. We Suns had a fun time at the May DCM! I can wait for our future DCMs and you should definitely come to the next one!

Zuleyka Urieta| 12 | Historian The Oxford Academy Key Club has found a manner to prevail and continue shining despite the circumstances brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through an abundance of engaging and impactful events proposed by project chairs, the key clubbers served their communities via virtual or stay at home events. In addition to service events, the Oxford Academy Key Club has held various fundraisers- it’s most recent being a bake sale where all the proceeds went towards fighting against MNT and PTP. Nevertheless this upcoming June in person events will commence again, in an attempt to return to normalcy and experience service projects face to face. These in person events will be restricted to a few club officers and members per shift, yet after over a year of having no in person service events Oxford Academy key clubbers are eager to serve. Despite a pandemic the Oxford Academy Key Club has continued to be a tight knit community, strengthening the bond between members through computer screens. Both general meetings and DCMS allowed the club members to learn about one another through activities, ice breakers, and their shared passion for key club. This demonstrates the extent of the friendships that blossom within key club amongst the Oxford Academy students. Despite a pandemic key club served as a positive outlet for its members. By continuing to serve the school and community, the Oxford Academy Key Club came together as a family to bring joy and happiness to one another. Whether it had been funny moments playing emoji guessing games at general meetings, or sharing heartfelt speeches at the end of the year banquet, smiles were always present on the faces of our members. Despite a pandemic, the Oxford Academy Key Club has remained motivated and determined. With a successful term concluding, new memories await to be made during the 2021-2022 term. Under the leadership of the D30S lieutenant governor Christina Nguyen, Oxford Academy’s very own, the future of Oxford Academy’s key club is bright…yes even despite a pandemic.

Megan Tran | 10 | Publicist Time passes by so quickly… I can still remember signing up for Summer Key Club, not knowing where it would take me in the future. In one blink of an eye, the whole school year has gone by. So many great things have happened this year. Getting a board position on OAKC was the start of something great; I got awesome peers to work with and enjoying the little moments, like turning it flyers at 2am in the morning….hahah! Then, at April DCM: Spill the DLT, I was appointed as 1 out of 3 spirit commissioners for the division. At first, I was kind of nervous (like most people are) but this position had connected me to so many new people. Just on DLT I have made so many meaningful relationships and I cannot wait to make more. I can recall May DCM: De-stress into Summer; Me and my spirit commissioner partners oversaw the social room, and we got a show-out of 8 people (including us three). There wasn’t lots of people there, which made it very easy for everyone to socialize. There was a lot of times where I lagged out and sounded like a robot, but my new friends didn’t seem to care, we all got a laugh out of it. It’s little moments like these where I enjoy Key Club most and I cannot wait to make more memories in the future. As the school year has ended, I can put full focus on Key Club. Things are looking up for in-person Key Club events, in fact, I am chairing one of the first in-person events, Riverbed Farms. This is my first in-person Key Club event literally ever, and I am so excited to meet all the OAKC board and general members. As soon as summer started, I have been maxing out the service projects because I aim to read 150 hours by the end of this term. Summer means more time for Key Club projects, which I always enjoy doing. In the future, I am looking forward to the in-person events we will have during the school year. As more vaccinations come out, the more Key Club events will open to the public, which is very exciting. The pandemic prevented me from having an in-person term, but I think I still made the best out of it. I have only seen people through an electronic screen, which is crazy. I wish to meet all the friends I have made in Key Club so far and I cannot wait to return in-person. I am also looking forward to the impact I will made in Key Club. Just to think that this is only the beginning for my Key Club journey is crazy, because I have accomplished so much in a presumably small amount of time. I have so much to look forward to, no words can convey my excitement. I have so much more to accomplish, I know I can do it, no matter what obstacles I face!
