Hi Oxford Key Clubbers! I hope that you’ve been having a great month! :) December is always a split time of stress, but also happiness because the holidays are almost here. So pull through! And remember there is always a light at the end of the tunnel! I’d like to take this time to thank you all for being such great members! You all have been serving your hearts out, and it really shows every time OAKC is able to get recognized as one of the shining clubs of the months every month. Thank you for continuous dedication, commitment, and kindness in serving the community. On that note, you should all think about how you’re going to shine as a leader here with OAKC! One of our core values is leadership, so it is our club’s responsibility to help you in ways that’ll allow you to grow in leadership. Executive board elections are the first weeks of January, where you’ll get to elect your next Pres./VP/Sec./Treasurer, or where you’ll be able to run as one of OAKC’s next great leaders! Two months afterwards, appointed board applications will be released—publicist? Historian? Tech? Maybe our next wonderful bulletin editor? Who knows, but definitely start thinking about it now! The month of December is quickly (but at the same time very slowly, thank you finals) passing by, but once it gets around Christmas time make sure to enjoy time with your family before we get into the last months of school. It all happens very quickly, so take the time to appreciate the people around you. And for the seniors, it’s finally 2016—it’ll be only a few more months until we graduate. It’s definitely weird to think about after six years here at Oxford, but here’s to our last few months together. And to the underclassmen, enjoy it as much as you can! Now, for the quote of the month: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” –John F. Kennedy Make sure to show your love to everyone this holiday season not only by saying it, but by showing it! Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year everyone!

I apologize for sending out this newsletter so late in the month! Due to SATs, tests, and finals, I hadn’t have the time to create the newsletter for y’all. But nevertheless, it is here now! I hope you all are having a blast now after the stress of finals are done and over with! Now, we can kick back and relax with our family and friends, finally having the time to enjoy instead of always worrying about school work! Yay! With that, as it is this time of giving thanks and helping those in need, I really would like to thank all our wonderful key-uties who take the time out of your day to help the community and offer all you can to help support those who really need it most. I would also like to thank Key Club for giving me this opportunity to do the little things I can to make a difference in anyone’s life, the reason why I fell in love with Key Club in the first place. It is important to always appreciate those who support you in doing anything that you do (; But enough with the mushy love stuff! In this month’s newsletter, you will see past events such as November DCM and of course, Fall Rally South! In addition, you will see upcoming events such as DCON! If you would like to learn more about Key Club and even apply for an position next year, DCON is where you will meet Key Clubbers from California, Nevada, and Hawaii who has the same passion and love for key club! NOVEMBER DCM: PB&J SANDWHICH MAKING On the second to last day of Thanksgiving Break (Saturday November 28), I spent the afternoon with my fellow Key Clubbers at Modjeska Park for November DCM. For those who have not yet noticed, each DCM is unique in the activities we do, the venue, and more. With this in mind, of all the DCMs I’ve gone to this term (which is a lot), this November DCM was my favorite by far. To start off, this DCM was set at a beautiful park on a very bright and cheerful afternoon. At this park was a giant playground with a mini rock-climbing wall, an intense jungle gym, and several other contraptions that could make any child feel as if they were on an adventure. Throughout the afternoon, smiling kids ran and leaped around the playground, each on their own adventure. If the spirit of the day, the youthful venue, or the children weren’t enough to lighten the mood, surely the shining Key Clubbers from throughout the division were enough. Every DCM I am met with surprises as I witness old and new Key Clubbers meeting each other and building immediate bonds. I witnessed such a spectacle between one of our new freshmen Key Clubbers Emily Nguyen and another Key Clubber from a different school. In the midst of struggling to spread chunky peanut butter on soft, fresh pieces of bread, I heard Emily Nguyen, who was next to me, chatter away with this fellow Key Clubber as if they were childhood friends. Keep in mind that this is only one of the many examples of when Key Club brought about new bonds and friendships. What I also loved about this DCM is that this Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Making Service Project naturally brought opportunities for new Key Club friendships to form much better than any planned bonding game ever could. Restricted to all sit under a single area on picnic tables with benches, Key Clubbers from different schools were forced to be around new people. Because making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches isn’t exactly a difficult or strenuous task, what else was there to do as we made sandwiches but talk with our surrounding Key Clubbers? What better way to spend your Saturday than making new friends while helping the community? Even though November DCM seemed to stand out to me, all DCMs allow opportunities for Key Clubbers to bond with other members from different schools. With this in mind, I HIGHLY encourage general members to join us at these meetings. If the professional word “meeting” has steered you away in the past, I hope this account will finally convince you to join us.

Around this time one year ago, I wrote my first article. Even though I was just a general member, what I experienced so far in the club moved me to become an incredibly passionate member. From Region Training Conference to other Division Council Meetings, I learned to love this club and appreciate how much of a positive attribute it was to my life. Fall Rally was just one of the events I went to that opened me up to how large and loving the Key Club community was. I was thankful for being able to meet so many amazing people and to discover new opportunities to help people. The morning of Fall Rally 2015, I came carrying my drawstring bag on my back and wearing my spirit gear. It must’ve been one of the coldest mornings I had been out in for the whole year, but many members thought the same as me, it was worth it to be outside Savanna High School at 5:30 AM to go to Fall Rally about one to two hours away. When we finally arrived at Six Flags Magic Mountain it was almost too much nostalgia to handle. Reliving moments where I found friendship in strangers was just too brilliant of an experience. There’s no other way to explain than that Fall Rally was amazing. The highlight of my day was being able to stand at the front of the stage during our rally session. This was my first year as an executive assistant. Being able to see every division in our session and the volume of key clubbers revved up for service and spirit was incredible. Everything happened in such a big blur. We didn’t win the spirit stick, but I was grateful that we at least landed in the top three divisions. Being able to go to these events and do such important tasks allowed me to grow as a person. Even though going to Fall Rally may not seem of value, every moment was rewarding, and it’s something that no one should have to miss.

FALL RALLY SOUTH cont. Key Club is one thing on a very short list of things that I am willing to wake up early for. And yet I fount myself freezing to death in Savannah’s parking lot at 5am. What for? None other than Fall Rally South. Fall Rally is an annual Key Club event. Every second Saturday of November, Key Clubbers from all over the Cali-Nev-Ha District meet up at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, basically taking over the entire park and engaging in rallies called Spirit Sessions to raise funds for Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP). And of course, since Six Flags Magic Mountain is the rollercoaster capital of the world, no visit would be complete without lots of rides. The drive to Valencia took about two hours, during which we joked around, talked, or slept. Sneaking our food through the gate was the scariest part of the day, but we all made it through without too much trouble. And after that, a glorious total of seven rides (six, really, because the bumper cars were quite the letdown). After a morning of thrills and adrenaline, nothing could stop D30S at the spirit session. The spirit coordinators zoomed around to pump us up, and we all cheered our hearts out. Getting third was a little disappointing, but quite an achievement nonetheless. And the best part was that we had helped raise funds for PTP while we were at it. Fall Rally South 2014 as a freshman was really where I had my first Key Club moment and finally began to understand what Key Club was truly about: friends, service, fun, leadership, and giving back to your community. And this year’s Fall Rally filled me with the same enthusiasm and passion for the club I’m proud to serve. FRS 2015: SUCCESS.

FAQs What is District Convention? District Convention is the annual gathering of members from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii to celebrate the end of the term! What will you be doing there? You will be installing and retiring all of the past term’s leaders! You will also get to see some workshops that will help you grow as a leader! You will be able to meet Key Clubbers from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii. In addition to all those amazing activities, you will also get to celebrate the end of the term with the Governor’s Ball! Why should you go?
