President’s Corner
It's finally December! You know what that means? One month left for 2014! December is a fun month. You've got 2 weeks of winter break, lots of holiday themed volunteer events, Christmas and New Year's parties, and my birthday of course (Dec 2)! Now that the weather's going down and the holiday spirit is going up, we all gotta make sure to keep the people we serve in mind. Sure, enjoy your presents and enjoy your feasts, but remember those who don't get to enjoy Christmas and the holidays as fully as you do. The least you could do is go out to at least one event and help out at HOPE Food Distribution and pass out food to the homeless or keep our environment clean by going to the beach to pick up trash. After you've helped someone else, don't forget to live a little! Go party! Eat a ton! Enjoy the holidays, especially with your family and friends. Make the most out of every moment you can. Remember: "The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience" Shine bright! — Nicolas Do

Editor’s Letter
Hey Key Clubbers!
It’s your bulletin editor, John Hoang, again! If you didn’t know, my task as bulletin editor is to create a monthly newsletter and update the bulletin upstairs! Be sure to stay on the look out for those updates! Happy Holidays! Thanksgiving has just passed by and now it’s almost time for Christmas! This newsletter is inspired by the season of giving back! I am so thankful for Key Club and the opportunity to present my passion through these newsletters! Although, they may not be the best, I try my hardest! I’m thankful for family and friends for always pushing me to go above and beyond! Throughout this last month, we had an action-packed month with many tutoring programs and volunteer events! This newsletter includes updates about Division events, past division events such as Division Council Meetings and Fall Rally South! Not only that, we have many service events such as the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress and the PB&J Sandwich Making! Thank you so much, Kelly Tran and Hee Sung Hansen Kim for submitting articles! It is so wonderful to see general members reaching out and writing these BEEautiful articles! These two have written amazing articles and I’m so proud to see how much they’re enjoying Key Club! BOY ‘S & GI RL ‘S CLUB Boys and Girls Club at Cypress is one of our ongoing volunteering events, available for volunteers who are willing to spend their afterschool s helping out little children with their homework. Boys and Girls Club offer the opportunities for us, high school students, to become involved in our communities and develop new relationships with people outside our school. At Boys and Girls Club, you are able to meet new kids, teach them their easy homework (the kind of homework we all miss from elementary school), and travel down your past of childhood memories, playing and being amused over the littlest things. This wonderful opportunity allows you to escape from your high school drama and troubles *ahem ahem.* In addition, being able to see a child’s smile brighten up your face is one of the best cure from your hard day at the high school life. Being with these kids, this experience showed me see the true point value of life. Enjoy it. Always being so caught up with school and stress, I realized I never have any fun time. Seeing these little kids play and mess around, laughing over the funniest or cutest things, I wish I could have that enjoyment. Going to Boys and Girls Club gave me that fun, carefree feeling. Because of this, I encourage all of you to come to Boys and Girls Club, either of Cypress or at King. If you need a place to relax your mind away from homework or other problems, Boys and Girls Club is the place you should be. I surely will be attending there again! Y E VE R THURS DA Y Every Thursday, I would go to the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress. It is an afterschool in which elementary, and a handful of junior high students come to spend their afternoon. It is called the “Power Hour.” For many, this may seem like a regular volunteering activity like every other. However that one hour, to me, is very special and meaningful in many ways. As far as I remember, I have been there 4 times so far since I have first joined Key Club. A month! For those four hours, I have been a tutor for the students, but I believe that I have also learned a lot from them, too. It is a great experience that brings back memories and gives me a chance to be a little help to the students. There is this one kid that stands out to me among the others. Every one of them is special and important to me, but to be honest, there is a third grader named Gavin that brings me a smile every Thursday. He is a very bright kid that’s really friendly and quite intelligent. Couple weeks ago, I sat next to him and asked “Do you need any help?” Of course, he answered with a “yes” and pointed to one of the English problems. Gladly, I helped him out. The next week, I came to the Power Hour once again. This time, he understood what I had taught him last week. That feeling of achievement and being proud, I cannot explain with words. It was just so great to see that Gavin had mastered that concept. I was so proud of him, I felt like I was going to cry! Through this volunteering activity, I was able to build friendship with the kids there and also learned how just giving one hour every week could contribute myself to a good cause. The best part of volunteering to me is this: Being a help to others. Seeing others benefit, whether it is really minor or great, makes me glad. On Thursdays, if I just sacrifice ONE hour of my sleep, then I could be of help to someone out there. Although I cannot change the world, or donate millions of dollars for fundraising, I have realized that I can give my time to better the world little by little. Lastly, I want to thank Key Club for giving me a chance to learn and be an aid to others.

November DCM: Many wondered where they had gone. Many questioned if they would return. Many assumed that they wouldn’t, and yet many secretly hoped that they would… And on November 22, 2014, they lay with glory on the tables of Katella High School’s auditorium, ready once again to make an impact on many lives: PB & J were of service once again – this time with the help of the sunny D30S superheroes. Together, they set out on a simple yet time-constraining task: to make sandwiches for a mission house in Long Beach. One sun opened the jar of condiments, another held a knife and grabbed a scoop of jelly or peanut butter, and another placed the complete sandwiches in transparent baggies. Quickly, piles and piles of sandwiches rose on top of the tables and crumbs floated around the auditorium discreetly and unquestioningly. Time was running out. A sun stacked the sandwiches in boxes, another passed out more knives, another supervised, and the mass of yellow glimmered with servitude and glistening smiles. And as the clock counted down, the gloves came off, and the sandwiches were complete. They had done it again. They had saved the day. All is well with the help and service of PB & J and the D30S Suns.

November DCM was one of the DCM’s that will be more memorable for me. It was one of the few DCMs that we were allowed to do an actual service project that would truly give meaning to the phrase, “Tis the season to be giving”. In this DCM we made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that would be given to the homeless and hungry. Our division service project chair, Iris Xu, set up this event for us and it really made an impact on me. It made me begin to think of how we take things for granted in our lives. There are people out there who are hungry and don’t have any food yet we are complaining about how we don’t have the newest iphone on the market. With a simple task as giving food to the poor, they’d be happier than a little kid on Christmas. This is because they truly grasped onto how to be grateful for what they get. With this event, we were allowed to bond with other through making sandwiches. Not only that we got to really make a difference in people’s lives just by making sandwiches. These sandwiches were sent to the Long Beach Rescue Mission where they would be distributed. I hope these events happen more often so we are allowed to make a difference but also bond at the same time. Have a great time with Family and be thankful for what you have Key Clubbers!

Sandwich making! This year’s November DCM was quite memorable. After the usual meeting, which included Club of the Month, going over past events, looking towards future events, Fall Rally 2015, etc., we had a little service event in which we made sandwiches. The event seemed very sloppy and planned last minute as a filler for a time slot during our DCM. There weren’t enough tables to accommodate all the members and there wasn’t enough ingredients spread among the tables to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches; we ended up making peanut butter sandwiches and jelly sandwiches. Although I was disgruntled at this lack of planning, I realized that it wasn’t about how well the event was planned. It wasn’t even that some sandwiches only had peanut butter and some sandwiches only had jelly. It was about all of the members of the division coming together to participate in a service event, no matter how small or large, because we were making a difference in someone else’s life.
