Hey Key-Clubbers! To think that this is my very last newsletter. Thank you for staying with me all twelve issues. I’m sorry if my newsletters bore you at times. I’m always trying my best with these and I want to thank you for checking it out even if it’s only a few pages or simply just liking the post on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you to my IP President, Vina, for always answering my last minute questions on division and club announcements. Thank you to my board members who constantly continue to send me their articles every month without me reminding them. Thank you to the historians for always taking thousands of pictures. I’m sorry for always bothering you guys for pictures ahahah. This newsletter would not have been possible without any of you. To who ever reads this, thank you for reading my editor’s note. Be sure to welcome Natalie ‘s editor note next month. Thank you for always supporting us and please continue to support me as I continue on to serve as your treasurer for the 2019-2020 term. (I’m seriously crying as I’m writing this ahahah. I’ve never realized how much the newsletters mean to me until now sjksjsk). As of April 14, I’ve been declared retired from the bulletin editor’s position. Stay strong and stay shining Suns. ILY all.

The New Term District convention is now only a couple weeks away. It feels unreal for the term to be ending, but we’ve already finished training the new board, and people are starting to pass off their duties. I’m so happy so see how energetic the new board is and I’m looking forward to working with everyone! At the president’s training, our LTG-elect, Ali Al-Saleem told us that we need to be ready for the term and plan ahead, or everything will just hit us really fast. I can understand what he meant; the upcoming month is filled with a lot of events that we have to get ready for. A meeting on the 6th, DCON the week after, Division Banquet on the 20th, our club banquet on the 26th, and DCM on the 27th. Instead of getting texts from my friends in facebook messenger, it’s the president’s chat asking about the next meeting, my executive board planning banquet, or Vina reminding me to make the agenda for the following day. Despite how hectic this might sound, I’m adjusting to the different duties and I can’t wait for DCON 2019!!!

PAULINE DOAN | IP HISTORIAN The time came. The March DCM marked my final DCM serving as an officer for the 2018-2019 term. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for the entirety of the event because I had a choir competition the same day, but I still had a lot of fun watching people throw handfuls of colored powder at each other. It was such a bittersweet moment, knowing that this month would be the last month I would ever serve as KC historian. A year ago, at approximately the same time, I also attended the March DCM, completely ecstatic knowing that I would start serving on board in the next month with the new term. I can’t fully wrap my mind around how fast the term went by. It feels like little to no time passed at all, yet there’s only three weeks left of the 2018-2019 term. It’s crazy to think that we’re all growing up and progressing on our KC journey. My love for KC will remain with me throughout the rest of my life and will only continue to grow. Entering KC in my freshman year was possibly one of the best things to have happened to me. Serving on KC board and getting to know the ins and outs of everything made that year of my highschool experience so much better. One of the key reasons as to why I consider freshman year to be my peak is because of the impact KC had on me. It struck something in me from the very get go, and I honestly cannot be more grateful for any other organization than KC. To all the upcoming board members: I am so incredibly proud and excited for all of you. Hopefully, all of you enjoy your term serving on board and gain the same enjoyable experiences I did for this term. Thank you for taking the initiative to involve yourself in a community as large as KC. Thank you for wanting to be part of an organization that devotes its time to helping others. Thank you for loving KC as much as I love KC. Although it’s a very bittersweet feeling, I am so excited to see what this next term brings. :’^) Who knows, maybe this might be my last article. One can never predict the future, though, so I won’t say goodbye just yet. I’ll see you later friends, and hopefully you’ll see me tackling on another adventure soon. Peace.

TRACY VU| IP VICE PRESIDENT OF SPECIAL PROJECTS This was our first Interclub social and we were with Cypress, John F. Kennedy, and Whitney Key Clubs. We first started off an Easter egg hunt however we didn't do a hunt due to the fact that were many kids on the playground and we didn't want them to take the eggs from our members. Because of this, we were spared with a lot of break time afterwards. But we were able to a Easter Egg race and the first to collect 5 eggs and come back received a raffle ticket. After the Easter Egg activity, we set up the PB&J making activity. We didn't have a lot of space on the tables but everyone still had the chance to make sandwiches. The social was super successful as we were able to make over 400 sandwiches to donate to the Long Beach Rescue Mission Center. They thanked us for our generosity and it felt good to donate all of those sandwiches to them. I’m glad that there was a large turnout and it was made me reminisce on the PB&J service projects we had years ago. I will miss Key Club and those who I shared those memories with.

TOBI YAO | PRESIDENT After a relaxing spring break, I attended both the president/vp and treasurer/secretary trainings presented by the division. We were given an overview of the whole term and I also got to learn more about the different positions, which was especially important since I wasn’t on the executive board last year. The presidents all went to Yupdduk after to get spicy rice cakes :)))))) It was a bit intimidating at first since I was the only junior, but all of the presidents were really welcoming and it was interesting to learn about how different clubs in our division function. Although we all work together, we have different systems, different roles, and different expectations. Sometimes, when I tell people that I’m going to a bonding event for Key Club, they ask if it’s worth the time. I believe it helps improve the Key Club environment because you are able to form closer relationships with others. Ever since the training day, the president’s chat has become more active and if anyone has a question, they are able to casually ask others for their opinion.

JENNIFER VO | VICE PRESIDENT Walking into the gates of Cerritos Elementary School on a Thursday made me feel like I wanted to read books again so I could take the computer tests and feed my tragically monstrous reading point empire. Or play handball and get destroyed by everyone else because I was both visually and physically challenged. Or gossip at lunch about how Ben and Kate started dating EVEN THOUGH Ben was flirting with Jessica literally the WEEK BEFORE and now Jessica’s going to handwrite a note and give it to Kate so she would break up with him because he’s stup*d. I think every elementary school just reminds me of sweet and nostalgic memories. I had a lot of fun teaching the students and their families how to make paper cranes at the Japan Booth, and by that I mean I pretended to teach them while I folded it for them. I told them about how their wishes would be granted if they made a thousand cranes. And then I told them about how the Meiji Restoration and how the Japanese invaded China and the US before World War 11. So basically I shared everything I know about Japan. In all, I enjoyed sharing Japanese culture with the kids at Cerritos Elementary.

AMBER SUN | IP VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBER RELATIONS Last Friday, I attended Boat Regatta for the first time stress-free and only there to enjoy the fun. For the last two years, Boat Regatta had been one of the most stressful events of my life - it was the day that would make or break my Physics grade, but luckily, I was able to pull it off twice in a row. I was extremely excited to be watching from the sidelines this year, and I was able to assist in the boat regatta by ensuring all boats were properly disposed of. I had a great time cheering on my friends in their boats, and the volunteer event was overall a great experience.

VINA NGUYEN | IP PRESIDENT As the term comes to an end, that means that banquets are coming up very soon to celebrate all the accomplishments of the term. Every year there are BOTH division and club banquets that numerous Key Clubbers come out to. At the division banquet, there are award and talent display opportunities. Members are awarded for things such as Member of the Year, Secretary of the Year, and much more. The club banquet is similar except it is limited to Oxford members only. This year we have the opportunity to invite important Kiwanians such as Mr. Bui, Lamont Miya, and Kathy Kendrick, our wonderful faculty advisor, Mrs. Vosskuhler, and current and newly-elected LTG’s, Anjika Morari and Ali-Al Saleem. Members who have attended banquets have enjoyed their experiences so be sure to not miss out on this wonderful experience! Be ready for sentimental moments and tears shared with the division and club!

ASHLEY SUN | IP TECH CHAIR Hello OA Key Clubbers!

Finally, the month of April is upon us, and we are one short month away from finally leaving Oxford. As a senior, I’d say that although Oxford has been a pretty stressful school and experience, I wouldn’t trade this experience for any other., It is through these 6 years that I am able to become the person I am today, It would not be an exaggeration to say that Key Club has also contributed a large amount to my life. In Freshman year I only joined key club because my friends were all joining the Kelly Tran key club hype. For those of you who do not know, Kelly Tran was our D30s LTG in my freshman year. She was a mere sophomore, and that was a huge accomplishment for her, and our school club. Eventually I got caught in the service wave, and ended up joining the club board as the historian. The following year I lost in an election against Vina Nguyen, your 2018-2019 president for the position of secretary. I took this year off, and then came back into this club as the tech chair. This club taught me a lot of happiness and fulfillment in helping others. Above all, this club taught me failure, and how to deal with it. I hope that Key club will contribute some similar amount to your own lives. The year is almost over, stay strong keyuties!

BRIANNA ONG | IP PROJECT CHAIR Wow! Can you bee-lieve it?! The 2019-2020 term is just around the corner! As the 2018-2019 term comes to an end, I hope all of you Key Clubbers continue to serve your community and make a lasting impact! Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, there’s so much more that you can do to give back to the people around you. There are so many new events coming up for you, and make sure to be on the lookout for new opportunities headed your way! With summer in just a couple of months, continue to find new ways to go out into your community and discover new organizations that you can lend a helping hand to! With events such as our club banquet and the Division 30 South banquet, as well as what we have been waiting for all year (DCON!), also make sure to make new friends! There are Key Clubbers all around you, and with the ever-growing passion of service, there are so many ways to help out around your city. And as always, with the end of a term comes the beginning of a new one! Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 27, to join your fellow Key Clubbers and your new LTG Ali Al-Saleem at April DCM! eginning of new • LEO HERNANDEZ | IP HISTORIAN Looking back, as a senior in high school, and in the last weeks of the Key Club term, I’ve been thinking quite extensively about the opportunities being on board for Oxford’s Key Club has provided me, as well as how just being able to give back has molded me as a person. As I’m on my last legs in terms of this club, I’d like my parting words to be influential to anyone who reads this, and to convey a message that may truly resonate with a few, in order for them to better their communities, as well as better themselves. Key Club is often viewed as a club that mass-recruits students, and as mandatory volunteer hours are being imposed upon graduation, I feel as though this trend and style of thinking will only get worse. Yet, be that as it may, I urge every one of you to not be lost on the opportunities this club can provide. In my sophomore year, I joined Key Club as a way to get out of my shell and meet new people, and soon after, I discovered how enlivening giving service back to the community could be. In that year alone, I served 50 hours, and came to fall in love with the idea of meeting people in the community, and com-

ing together with them to achieve the common goal of helping those in need of help. Although most people who talk about Key Club paint the perfect picture of it, I do have some regrets. Towards the end of my high school career, I became less and less active in the club, and truly took all the opportunities it had provided me for granted. This is where I give advice to anyone in need of it; amidst AP classes, other extracurriculars, your SAT’s, applying for college, or just enjoying time with your friends, always leave time for Key Club. This is something I wish I could’ve told myself 2 years ago, because now that the term is coming

to a solemn end, I realize how much more I could’ve contributed to the club and the community. I’m ending my high school career with around 100 hours in the club, which is not something to be ashamed of, yet if I had applied myself more, I could’ve helped so many more people. I realize this now, and this is the only regret Key Club has ever given me. In conclusion, to any of the starry-eyed kids out there on the brink of joining their school’s Key Club, my advice would be simple. If you’re looking for a club that looks good on college apps, and/or gives you a better image in the eyes of your peers, Key Club is not a club you’d

enjoy. In my 3 years in the club, the one worthwhile piece of advice I’d give anyone is, join with the intent to help people, because soon enough, you’ll fall in love with it. Don’t take it for granted. Lastly, I’d like to give my sincerest thanks to all the people who helped me along the way in this club, and I hope that wherever I may end up after high school, I keep the Key Club values at heart.

• end of old ~ begin GRACE NGUYEN | TREASURER To think our 2018-2019 Key Club term is finally coming to an end. Of course, we could never end the term without appointing our new board members of 2019-2020! I enjoyed looking through all your supplements and reading your responses. Looking through the applications gave me flashbacks of when I was still a little freshman trying for bulletin editor and project chair. To this day I do not know why I even got my position ahaha. My supplements look like trash compared to the ones submitted this

year. If it weren't for my volunteer hours I probably wouldn’t be where I am now. And I remember when Tracy called me (or tried to call me) to tell that I got bulletin editor that Friday. Sadly, I didn’t know it was tradition to call the candidates when they received the position, so Tracy called me 5 times and I still didn’t pick up ahaha. My bad. On March 8th at exactly 4 pm, I called Kenny Le, Victoria Truong, and Jacquelyn Nguyen to tell them the good news. Luck for me Kenny and Victoria picked up the phone immediately; however, Jacquelyn on the other hand left me on voicemail. I had to call her at least four times

with different phones before she finally picked up lol. If you’re reading this srry for the spam calls hehe And also, I would like to say good job to everyone who applied. Even if you didn’t get the position you wanted, always remember that you guys are the ones who stepped out of your comfort bubble to try something new. I’m proud of all you guys! Good job and keep up the great work. Don’t forget it’s just the beginning, not the end of our Key Club journey.

NATALIE MELENDEZ | BULLETIN EDITOR It’s difficult to grasp the fact that the 2018-2019 term is shortly coming to an end. This was the first year I had the amazing opportunity to be part of OAKC’s appointed board, and it feels like just yesterday I was being trained for my role as publicist. Having been a general member during my first two years of Key Club, I learned about the great passion and dedication of my fellow suns. But having been a board member this past year proved to be a completely different experience, in the best way of course. I attended DCMs, I wrote articles, I attended socials, I made countless ads to publicize OAKC events, I got closer to so many more key-clubbers from both this division and others. And through it all, I was reminded of the supportive, tight-knit community of this club. Everything I learned and all the memories I made this term only further strengthened my love for this organization. And though I’m sad to see the 2018-2019 term go, I’m excited for the future of Key Club and all the future memories it holds. But most of all, I’m excited to make the most out of my last year of Key Club this upcoming term as OAKC’s 20192020 Bulletin Editor. Here’s to more laughter, service, and sunshine.

nning of new cont• MAI-VY TRUONG | IP SECRETARY As this term comes to an end, I’ve come to realize that it also means the end of my high school career is quickly approaching as well. Throughout my four years as a Key Club member, I’ve not only had the opportunity to gain so much leadership experience as both a general member and an officer, but I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting so many spirited and passionate people that will alw ays serve as an inspiration with their passion and dedication to service and the organization. Having the role and responsibility of secretary this year, I’ve truly gained an insight into how much time and work goes into ensuring the club functions and supports its members. Everyone is accountable for themselves and their fellow board members as well, and having the opportunity to see the club behind the scenes in action was an eye opening experience. With this being my last year in not only Key Club but also high school, I can only hope the underclassmen can continue the legacy this organization has left for the school. I know Key Club had a great impact on my life and love for service, and I hope that it will do the same for future Key Clubbers as well. It’s been an amazing for years to get the chance to be a part of this club; it really is life changing if you allow it to be and dive into everything Key Club has to offer. I wish the

TIMMY BUI | SECRETARY This month, we had the color war for our joint Dcm. It’s too bad I didn’t get to go because I had to help my friends’ moms out at an OA Fest Booth and also perform a traditional Vietnamese dance at the same time as the DCM. Still, seeing the pictures and hearing about how it all went took me back to my old days when I barely became a historian. I remember how I was like a lost sheep in th the swarm of key clubbers. Now, I look at our new board with pride because I know what great leaders they may become. I applaud them for their zeal. So if you are reading this, new officers, and if you still feel like a wandering soul, have faith.

This path will lead to so much more, and you are just on the cusp of it. I’m still making my way through this journey myself! So be prepared to grow through this opportunity, and make the most out of it. Keep on shining!
