magine how you would feel walking into a stark white room versus the same room with walls painted with an enveloping comforting earth tone such as golden bisque. You would feel very different in each of those two rooms, wouldn’t you?

Color has the power to change the entire energy of an environment and is very important to consider when creating a space that feels good. Color can change a mood, activate your emotions and affect your subconscious. The impact of color is greater than just what you see through your eyes; it also has a vibration that affects you both physiologically and psychologically.

In addition, your reaction to color is cultural and depends on your traditions

Color likes and dislikes are also very personal, so I always advise clients to stay away from using charts that list what colors are good for the various rooms in the home. I prefer to work with what feels good to them. hen it comes to choosing outdoor furniture for your patio or lanai, there are several choices available. First is the synthetic woven product with aluminum frames that are available at many local hotels. Next there is the powdercoated aluminum furniture with fabric seats and glass-top tables seen at many big-box stores. Also there is the ultra-low cost plastic deck furniture. Merbau is the perfect wood for outdoor furniture. It is twice as hard as teak, which makes it resistant to abrasion, pitting or roughening. Many different kinds of wood will split if they are moved from a wet environment to a very dry one. Prior to manufacture, the merbau is kiln-dried to a moisture content of 12 percent. This stabilizes the structure of the timber so it doesn’t warp or crack. Merbau is naturally rot-resistant and insect proof. The wood is not subjected to toxic chemicals (treated). The secret is merbau’s reddish-brown tannin, which is toxic to bugs.

The furniture is constructed using mortise and tenon joints

with cross doweling. This prevents loosening of the components over time. The furniture is only as good as the hardware that holds it together. All the hardware is constructed from corrosion-resistant stainless steel as well as some nickel-plated brass components. The stainless steel chosen is the 304 grade, which is commonly found in cookware and marine applications. Proper finishing is crucial to maintain the beauty of the furniture. A multi-step preparation process is used to ensure the best adhesion and penetration of the finish.

Each piece is coated with three applications of Sikkens Cetol One™, which provides a protective, durable and beautiful finish without obscuring the grain. This

Most older homes in Hawaii may only have one or two outlets per room. Extension cords and power strips are good solutions to provide power where it is needed. The problem, however, is that these are only temporary solutions. Leaving extension cords or power strips as permanent power solutions puts people at greater risk for house fires.

Therefore, additional outlets should be installed to supply permanent power where needed.

A lot of today’s modern appliances and electronics require more power than an older home may be equipped for. In fact, many older homes may have all of

Circuit breakers are a source of protection for our homes’ electrical wiring. Most people think that a circuit breaker is just a switch that can be turned off or on. If your circuit breaker trips off, it’s telling you that something is wrong. The circuit breaker itself may have gone bad, a short may have occurred, or too many amps may have been drawn. For dedicated equipment, such as air conditioning, dedicated outlets should be installed so that other appliances and electronic equipment can be plugged in without a circuit breaker tripping off.
