How Our Contributions Make A Difference For the second year in a row, Sunetric partnered with local nonprofit Kupu to create a green job workforce development program. Training and educating Hawaii’s youth in the growing green job sector, Sunetric donated materials and the team’s knowledge to run weekly seminars for youth corps members.

Sunetric introduced youth to a range of job opportunities in the solar industry from sales to installations. Through this program, the team passed on its unparalleled expertise in the hope of preparing more youth to enter the growing solar industry workforce.

Who We Are Since the first Longs Drugs store opened in Hawaii over 60 years ago, it has been part of our culture to give back to the communities we serve. Over the years, we have supported a number of organizations that provide muchneeded services, to those who need them most, in Hawaii communities. Our company contributed more than $81 million in donations, volunteer hours, and gifts-in-kind to support charitable causes that impact the lives of the people we serve every day and here in Hawaii, we supported many different nonprofits including: • 1. Project Dana – Project Dana provides vital services to senior citizens and disabled citizens, such as transportation, caregiver support and home visits. Our colleagues have volunteered for the organization, and also supports the “Longs Caregiver of the Month,” a media campaign honoring a selected caregiver.

• 2. Special Olympics Hawaii – Special Olympics Hawaii helps athletes of all abilities succeed. Longs/CVS Caremark awarded a Community Grant to the organization to support the Healthy Young Athletes program, which provides health care screenings to Special Olympics athletes ages 2 ½ to 7.

• 3. West Hawaii Community Health Center – The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers, awarded this health center a $50,000 “Innovations in Community Health” grant to support a program that is helping patients manage their chronic disease.

• 4. March of Dimes – March of Dimes is committed to giving babies the best start in life. This year Longs Drugs donated $128,526.74 to support the vital work of this organization.

3. Building Healthier Communities – CVS Caremark has become an active participant in helping to build healthier communities. Our community outreach programs are developed and carefully focused to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve – from offering medication counseling for seniors to working with first responders in times of disaster.

Who We Are Serving Hawai‘i since 1947, Catholic Charities Hawai’i is dedicated to providing a wide range of social services with dignity, compassion, social justice, and a commitment to excellence. Who We Are Hospice Hawaii is kicking off its 35th year of providing comprehensive, interdisciplinary care to patients with life-limiting illness and their families in the comfort of their own homes. Hospice Hawaii also offers a home-like setting for care at our Kailua Home, and works with many nursing homes and other facilities. Created by the community and governed by a local board of directors, Hospice Hawaii provides physical, emotional, social and spiritual care and support to patients and families so that their journey at the end of life can be more meaningful.

How Our Contributions Make A Difference In 2012 Hospice Hawaii awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in charity care to indigent patients during their most difficult time of life. In our history of service, Hospice Hawaii has not turned away any patient eligible for hospice care that did not have the ability to pay. Hospice Hawaii also moved its Molokai headquarters to a new location in downtown Kaunakakai, allowing greater ease of use by the community. In addition, Hospice Hawaii began the process of expanding services to the island of Lanai, which currently does not have a hospice presence.

Who We Are Since 1959, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc. has been serving the community, providing much needed job placement and job readiness services to people with barriers to employment. In 2011-2012, more than 15,000 individuals were served by Goodwill’s statewide mission programs.

Goodwill is rare among nonprofit agencies, because most of our revenue is earned through the sale of items at our community stores, commercial services contracts, and grants. These sources of revenue combine with the support from individuals and companies to create a self-sustaining system that helps us direct more than 90% of total revenue toward services that help thousands in Hawaii each year.

How Our Contributions Make A Difference In 2011-2012 Goodwill placed over 1,500 individuals into jobs, helping to change their lives through the power of work. Over 15,000 individuals took advantage of Goodwill’s statewide services through job readiness and education programs.

More than 12.5 million pounds were kept out of Hawaii’s landfills in 20112012, through the donations of gently used clothing and household items, recycling at our Hi5 redemption locations, and our new Dell Reconnect program that safely disposes of computer related electronics.

By donating your stuff to a convenient Goodwill drop-off location you help create jobs. The donations are sold at Goodwill Hawaii stores where they are transformed into revenue that supports our job readiness and job placement programs. Who We Are As a family of not-for-profit hospitals, Hawai‘i Pacific Health is dedicated to delivering exceptional and often lifesaving medical care to the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Region. Who We Are IHS, The Institute for Human Services, Inc., is a comprehensive social services agency working to prevent and end homelessness in Hawaii. The agency was founded in 1978 by the Reverend Dr. Claude F. DuTeil, an Episcopal priest, to help the people of Honolulu without homes. Originally known as the “Peanut Butter Ministry”, IHS has stayed true to the original mission while greatly expanding services to reach all those in need. IHS operates three service centers in urban Honolulu, two which include 24-hour emergency shelters and one dedicated to housing placement and employment services. Our services are available to families, women, and men who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Last year IHS served over 5,000 individuals, with a listening ear, encouragement, and a wide range of programs to address their diverse needs. Although IHS is known for providing emergency shelter and food to the homeless and those most in need, our array of services also includes children’s enrichment, housing placement, outreach, specialized case management, employment, and health services. Our outreach team, for example, seeks out the most vulnerable on the streets of Honolulu and beyond, assisting them with medical treatment, referrals, emergency services, and housing solutions.

How Our Contributions Make A Difference Generous contributions to IHS have allowed us to serve over 5,000 people in need though our array of eight services.

• Emergency shelter and services were able to provide safe slumber to 1,446 children, women and men. We offered them shelter, food, clothing, toiletries, showers, mail/phone access, laundry facilities and storage.

• Community food programs were able to provide over 750 meals three times a day, seven days a week.

• Children’s enrichment services helped 213 children with a variety of educational and enrichment activities.

• Health services are provided at our Sumner and Kaaahi shelters.

We were able to serve over 500 people and offer screenings, psychiatric care, urgent care and infant care.

• Outreach services, in collaboration with the John A. Burns School of Medicine, was able to assist over 200 people in urban Honolulu and over 170 people on the North Shore of Oahu.

• Specialized case management services offered comprehensive case management for families, individuals, and veterans living both inside and outside of our shelters.

• Housing placement services was able to assist over 1,700 individuals with housing stabilization.

• Employment services helped educate and train our guests to obtain over 140 jobs.

Linda was raised in Portland, Oregon and received her BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Oregon. Since arriving in Honolulu in 1969 she built a long-standing career in television and radio news broadcasting which earned her numerous awards, including an Emmy, the YWCA Leadership Award for Communications and the Public Relations Society of America’s Newsperson of the Year award. While Linda devotes most of her time to the Rotary Club of Honolulu, The Hawaii Family Support Institute and Family Programs Hawaii, her husband of 29 years, Kirk Matthews, is a reporter/anchor for KHON TV. Leslie was a print and broadcast journalist for three decades before taking the helm of nonprofit PBS Hawaii in 2007. Leslie believes in the power of teaming education and media to build community. One example of this is the creation of HIKI NO, the nation’s first statewide student news network, which develops students’ 21st-century learning and workforce skills and fills gaps in community information. The rapidly growing network also provides training for teachers on all islands in creative, responsible media--at no cost to the teachers or schools. Earlier this year, Leslie was named 2012 Hawaii Businesswoman of the Year, Nonprofit Sector, by Pacific Business News.

2013 AWARD RECIPIENTS Posthumous (In Memoriam) Award Frank Boas Nominated by University of Hawaii Foundation When Frank Boas moved to Honolulu in the late 1980s, he brought with him great gifts -both tangible and intangible. One of those gifts was his boundless generosity. Having served as a University of Hawaii Foundation Trustee and chair of the UHF planned giving committee, Frank was a huge supporter of the University of Hawaii law school and over the years he contributed more than $3 million to UH. Other board affiliations included the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Pacific Forum Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Pacific Asian Affairs Council.

Frank’s gifts and involvement at the law school broadened the scope and depth of programs for both the school and this community.

Frank also supported other organizations including Punahou School, Bishop Museum, Hawaii Opera Theatre, the Honolulu Museum of Art, Hawaiian Humane Society, and the East-West Center. In 2004, Frank received the Jefferson Award for Public Service, a national award presented by the American Institute for Public Service to honor those who provide outstanding public and community service in America.

Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Elizabeth (Betty) Mastrantonio, MBA, CFRE Nominated by Stacey Acma Anyone who knows Betty will tell you she has a “can do” attitude, good leadership skills and a great team spirit. As a long time member of the Junior League of Honolulu, Betty received training on how to improve communities and make an impact through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. This training and focus eventually led her into the nonprofit field as a volunteer and later as a professional fundraiser.

Over the years Betty has worked with the Boys and Girls Club, Friends of Children’s Advocacy Center, UH Foundation/Cancer Research Center, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, and for the past six years with the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter.

During her fundraising career she has helped to raise over $25 million for nonprofits in Hawaii.

Betty has been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) since 1997 and a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) since 2002. She is also proud to be a Weinberg Fellow, and a member of Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society.

Outstanding corporation First Hawaiian Bank Nominated by University of Hawaii Foundation For over 155 years, First Hawaiian Bank has supported philanthropic projects in communities it serves. It is also one of the state’s largest corporate contributors to charity donating $10 million to philanthropy over the last four years alone. Some of the nonprofit organizations FHB has supported through the decades include: Waianae Coast Comprehensive, Teach for America, Family Programs Hawaii, and many others. Support ranges from annual gifts as well as large gifts in response to capital campaigns/special fundraising efforts. FHB’s core values encourage its employees to serve in their communities through volunteering or contributing to committees. In the last 2 years as CEO of Aloha United Way, Kim has been recognized by the business community for her efforts to reorganize and re-energize the Aloha United Way mission in Hawaii including being selected as: one of the “10 Business Leaders To Watch” by Pacific Business News, one of the “20 for the Next 20” by Hawaii Business Magazine, and a 2012 Distinguished Sales and Marketing Finalist Award from SMEI Hawaii. Kim was also appointed by Governor Abercrombie to the State Board of Education and recently completed a 2-year term on the Board as it guides the reform of the Hawaii Public School System.

Kathy oversees all project development activities of Kobayashi Group.

She has over 30 years of real estate development experience in managing the development of various master planned communities, luxury resort communities, hotel-condominiums, schools and office buildings. Castle Foundation, a large family foundation headquartered in Kailua, Oahu. In the past three decades, Terry has initiated grants to hundreds of nonprofit organizations in 14 different countries, totaling over $75 million. Terry is a 1976 graduate of Punahou School, and he received his B.A. from Stanford University, his M.A. from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and his Executive M.B.A. from the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii. Lorraine Leslie State Director of the American Lung Association Lorraine is responsible for the overall administration, planning, directing and managing of health initiatives, programs, advocacy and fundraising for the American Lung Association in Hawaii. She oversees various teams statewide involved with the nonprofit’s health initiatives, which involve education on the tobacco, lung health and clean air initiatives. Lorraine is responsible for the annual budget and multi-year fundraising plans including special events, major and planned gifts corporate giving and private foundations.

Jennifer Hee Executive Director of the Arthritis Foundation -Hawaii Branch Jennifer is responsible for the planning, implementing, managing and evaluating events and programs to raise funds and awareness of the 120 different forms of arthritis affecting Hawaii’s residents.

She previously was the Director of Development for the University of Hawaii Foundation at the William S. Richardson School of Law and Annual Giving Officer and Alumni Director at Hawaii Baptist Academy. In 2012, Jennifer was a member of Pacific Business News Forty Under 40 Class and also received the 2012 Young Professional Alakai Opio Award for Exceptional Leadership from The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.

• Aloha United Way funded efforts to ensure hot, holiday meal delivery to nearly 1,000 individuals in need at their homes this past holiday season.

• Aloha United Way 2-1-1 phone operators responded to nearly 30,000 calls from those in need and made over 40,000 referrals to help.

Our Goal 1. ATRC is committed to linking individuals with assistive technology (AT), so that all people can participate in every aspect of community life, school, and work while maintaining independent and productive lives.

HOW TO GIVE ATRC appreciates all the gifts we receive from the community. Gifts come in different forms. In our case we receive usable computers that are redistributed to persons with disabilities. Thanks to volunteers, who “fix”, “clean,” and “demo” those computers, over 50 persons received a computer in 2012. Volunteers work and play with us at Camp Cool and others who train individuals in the use of a particular piece of technology. Tax-deductible contributions are also very useful and help us ensure everyone gets the technology they want and need.

Who We Are Founded in 1991 and granted its 501(c)3 non-profit status in 1996, Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawaii (ATRC) is a statewide resource center that provides access to assistive technology (AT) for people with disabilities, professionals, family and the general public.

How Our Contributions Make A Difference To fulfill its mission, ATRC provides consultation, assessment, device demonstrations, training, education, device loans and trials, financial loans, and advocacy programs. Programs are free of charge. These programs are designed for individuals with disabilities, friends and family members, professionals, institutions, and anyone else interested in assistive technology.

• A T Device Demonstrations: ATRC offers AT device demonstrations to an individual or groups of individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and educators. AT demonstrations provide an opportunity for individuals to become familiar with a device or apps that meet their individualized needs and demands. Receiving demonstrations at ATRC not only raises awareness of an individual on a device or a group of devices in a certain category of disability, but also helps an individual make an informed choice prior to acquiring a device.

T Device Loan: This program increases raising awareness about AT • A and offers an opportunity to make an informed choice.

• A T Device Exchange: AT devices are provided to persons with disabilities at little to no cost. If you are interested in trading or donating AT devices and software, such devices and software must be in good and working condition.

• F inancial Loans: ATRC, in partnership with American Savings Bank, provides low-interest, extended-term loans. An individual with a disability can use the loan program to purchase technology that may not otherwise be available. Up to $30,000 may be borrowed.

• C omputer Redistribution: ATRC operates a Computer Redistribution Program to assist persons with disabilities who do not have access to a computer. ATRC accepts working computers from individuals and companies. Volunteers refurbish all computers.

• C amp Cool: This two-day camping experience is for children/youth with disabilities and their sibling or best friend. During this interactive computer exploration experience, campers have an opportunity to learn computer-based applications, including interactive games, digital photography, 3-D animation with all the necessary AT accommodation.

• i CLAP: The Interactive Computer Learning Acquisition Program (iCLAP) program focuses on adults, aged 17-45, entering or continuing in higher education or employment. The training provides the client with basic computer skills needed to enhance and assist in reaching educational or career goals. The client agrees and commits to participate in 15 hours of training over a 10-week period, when his/her application is accepted.

Who We Are Hawaiian Humane Society is an education and advocacy animal welfare organization that shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals.

It is Oahu’s only open-admission shelter. Established in 1883, the organization is not affiliated with or funded by any national organization such as HSUS or ASPCA. Gifts made to this local nonprofit help local animals.

How Our Contributions Make A Difference Hawaiian Humane Society’s prevention, education and outreach programs impacted more than 10,000 youth in underserved communities and more than 16,000 people through its pet food bank, pet visitation program to hospice and health care facilities and emergency foster care program for pet owners in crises in the past year.

Its sheltering programs helped more than 27,000 animals, which included finding new homes for 8,100 orphaned pets and reuniting thousands of lost animals with their families. More than 8,000 animals are spayed or neutered by the Humane Society to reduce pet overpopulation. About 85 animals arrive daily to Oahu’s only open-admission shelter.

Our “Membership for All” program ensures everyone has access to the Y programs and services they need, regardless of their ability to pay. This year, we provided aid to thousands of youth, families and seniors with access to health and fitness programs and facilities, child care, youth camps, and youth development, teen leadership, swimming and sports programs.

Through partnerships and grants, we provided specialized health and fitness programs for individuals with chronic diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson disease, arthritis and obesity.

Here’s a snapshot of the Y’s impact in our community: • 1 out of 10 members received financial assistance • 118,000 men, women and children were helped by a Y program or service • 1 out of 5 Youth in Government teen delegates received a program scholarship • $1,336,000 dollars in financial assistance, scholarships and program subsidies were distributed to families in need who were unable to afford Y programs • 7,000 children were kept safe and thriving in Y A+ After School Programs • 160 military kids who had a parent deployed enjoyed a free week of camp How To Give There are many ways to support the Y’s cause of strengthening communities: • Annual Gifts - Provide program support and financial assistance to those in need.

Who We Are Child & Family Service partners with Hawai‘i families to address serious life issues, with life changing results. As one of our state’s largest and most comprehensive human services organizations, we touch more than 40,000 lives each year, from keiki to ku-puna. We help families move from the impossible, to the possible … to New Possibilities.

Child & Family Service meets families where their needs are, in their neighborhoods, in their homes, with their friends and family. We help families get the right start for a healthy, thriving future. Our more than 35 programs strengthen families through parenting and child development counseling, prevention and treatment of abuse and neglect, programs for troubled teens and elder care initiatives.

How Your Contributions Make A Difference In fiscal year 2012, we provided direct services, such as counseling, intervention and prevention services, to more than 14,000 individuals ranging from infants to elder adults. In addition we served another 40,000 individuals through phone calls and referrals and crisis line help, educational presentations on abuse and neglect prevention, and food and clothing distribution to those in need through one of our Family Centers located in the heart of communities needing our services.

Programs like Healthy Start, which offers home visitation services for parents of newborns, reflect our focus not only on the treatment but also on the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Of families that stay one year or more in our home visitation programs, 99% have no report of child abuse or neglect. Our one-stop Family Centers are a model for prevention, providing a safe environment for families and an opportunity for staff professionals to identify the needs of the family.

Our programs also help to reduce costs to our community. If we prevent five children from entering the child welfare system, we prevent annual costs of foster care and other child abuse/neglect services by almost $190,000.

How To Give As a private local non-profit 501(c)(3), serving the Hawai‘i community for 114 years, Child & Family Service relies on a combination of government funding, private support, and community support to provide many critical family services.
