DALGHAR The proven black-type sire Dalghar is one of the best-bred stallions in Australasia.

Bred and raced by the Aga Khan, Dalghar is by the Champion Danzig sire Anabaa and is out of one of the best female families in the world.

Dalghar's dam Daltawa is responsible for not one but two European Horses of the Year in the form of the Gr.1 sires Dalakhani and Daylami.

A talented Group winning Sprinter/Miler himself, Dalghar was unbeaten at three and at four set the current 1400m track record at Longchamp, winning the Gr.3 Prix du Palais-Royal in a time of 1:17.40.

His dual stakes-winning daughter Astara has followed in a similar vein.

Shaving 2 seconds off the NZ 2YO 1600m record at Ellerslie courtesy of a 1.34.32 win in the Listed Champagne Stakes.

It is perhaps son Scott Base, who has best demonstrated Dalghar's innate value. Bred by Dalghar's current owner Neven Bottica, the Brighthill Farm-consigned colt was purchased at the NZB Select Yearling Sale by Chris Rutten for $70, 000. Scott Base returned the investment 10-fold, with wins in the Listed Karaka Million 3YO Classic, the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas & the Gr.2 Japan-NZ Trophy escalating his earnings to $736,750.

A consistent source of winners, Dalghar has sired 81 successful offspring to date. As at early September, he has enjoyed 5 winners for the new season and looks to have a smart f illy in Farrenc, who put her hand up for a tilt at the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas with a bold placing in the Gr.3 Northland Breeders' Stakes.
