Postage Stamp Centennial. -
21 st MARCH. 1955.
A set o~. stamps to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary o~ New Zealand's ~irst postage stamps will be issued on the 18th JUly, 1955. The set will comprise three denominations as ~ollows: 2d. A Maori mail carrier. The background of the stamp depicts the Auckland town~h1p in the 1850's with sailing ships in the harbour and Rangitoto Island in the distance. The colours will be: Maori, brown; background, green. Dimensions: 21mm x 37mm with 120 stamps to the sheet. Artist: Mr R.M. Conly, Christchurch. 3d. A portrait of Her Majesty the Queen set in a frame similar to that o~ the original ~l face Queen Victoria stamp o~ 1855. The colour of this stamp will be carmine. Dimensions: 19.5mm x 2511Jn with 160 stamps to the sheet. Artist: Mr James :Berry, Wellington. 4d. A Douglas DC3 airliner in flight. The colour o~ the aircraft will be dark blue and the remainder light blue. Dimensions: 37II1II1 x 21mm with 120 stamps to the sheet. Artist: Mr A.G. Mitchell, Wellington. The stamps are being printed by the recess-engraved process by Messrs De La Rue & Co. Ltd., London. Special souvenir covers will not be issued by the Post O~~ice for this occasion but in respect of orders received from overseas clients, the Stamps DiVision, General Post Office, Wellington, will affix stamps to plain envelopes and have them cancelled on the date of issue. The charge for this service is 1~d. per cover in addition to the cost of the stamps reqUired. In cases where a client supplies his own addressed envelopes, the serVicing fee will be reduced to 1d. The address should be placed on the right-hand side and not higher than 1t inches from the bottom of the envelope.
