In a remote corner of Mystery Creek lies a paddock where the wheeled monsters lurk. The Jamboree team have rangled these beasts and tamed them to provide the Scouts with a level of fun that has not be seen before. Scouts were seen to be flying over the paddocks in search of fun on the small quad bikes, then sliding sideways, Tokyo Drift Style on the track. Finally mounting the trusty mountain bikes for a couple of laps. New life long skills were learnt when changing wheels on cars. This will be something very useful in the future Fun was had by everyone, however, the height of this base is, when armed with a mallet, true frustrations can be released on the poor cars available for destruction.

BADGERS CLUB

www.nzbadgersclub.org.nz www.facebook.com/groups/NZBadgersClub

At the pilot Scout Camp held on Brownsea Island in August 1907, Robert Baden-Powell gave the boys a Scout symbol to wear on their coats or hats. This was the first ever Scout Badge. Since then, badges have been an essential part of the Scouting programme, regarding the badges that can be earned and those made to recognise events attended. One of the traditions at the Jamboree is the trading of badges. Scouts eagerly engage in a bustling marketplace of colourful symbols representing the different Troops at the Jamboree. The badge trading fosters camaraderie among Scouts and serves as a tangible reminder of the diverse experiences and friendships formed during the Jamboree. Each badge tells a unique story, and the exchange of these emblems crosses language barriers, forging lasting connections that embody the spirit of Scouting unity and global fellowship. This year, Scouts will be able to swap for over 150+ Troop and Staff badges. There are many excellent badge designs, and trading is expected to be busy! The New Zealand Badgers Club (NZBC) will be assisting the Jamboree GLOBCITPEA programme by providing a variety of things to do: a badge recognition activity, a display of badges, blankets, old uniforms and books, and an opportunity to trade badges. The Club is also open to trading whenever a Scout has free time. All Scouts participating in the activities can

earn themselves the Club Award badge. The Club members attending the Jamboree are all willing to share their experiences about collecting. If you want to collect badges after the Jamboree, they can guide you in starting a badge collection and how it can be presented. The Badgers Club has been running for over 50 years, initially as part of the International Badgers Club based in the UK and then from the 1990s as a New Zealand-based club. Today, the Club holds a membership of nearly 200 people from New Zealand and worldwide. Membership is only $10 a year for an email membership or $20 per year for a postal membership. The Club allows collectors to enjoy collecting Scout and Guide badges. It holds meetings throughout the country and via online swap sessions through the Club’s Facebook Group. The post-Jamboree online swap session will be held at the end of January. The Club also helps to play a role in maintaining the history of badges made in New Zealand by writing badge catalogues and supporting a gallery of badge scans on its website. We look forward to seeing you all at Jamboree! New Zealand Badgers Club Scout and Guide Badge Collectors

HAPPY NEW YEARS 024

2 N I G N I E E S

As the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve 2023, Jamboree Troops gathered for a thrilling night of celebrations. The Jamboree stage was transformed into a dazzling, futuristic wonderland with neon lights and holographic displays. Scouts donned their spaceage costumes to match the theme of Into the Future. With a DJ at the helm, the night was filled with laughter, dancing, and excitement as Scouts bought in 2024.

THE AUSTRALIANS

Are here

The Australians have been preparing to join us at the 23rd Aotearoa New Zealand Jamboree for months. With 687 Scouts and Leaders in attendance, the organisation’s undertaking has been no small feat for all involved. The Contingent left on 28 December from states and territories all across Australia. They spent the night at Tāmaki-Makaurau, Auckland, sightseeing around the city. The adventure included a trip to the IMAX cinema, where they were immersed in the innovative movie-going experience of one of New Zealand’s most prominent movie screens. Since arriving at the Jamboree, the Scouts have had many adventures despite the wet weather. Spirits are high, and the youth are enjoying themselves with all that is to offer at Jamboree. As part of Duty patrol, my day started with cooking breakfast for everyone. After, we had some time to relax. It’s been a great balance of work and play on this first day CULLUM 1ST PICNIC POINT

I had a blast in the MasterChef challenge today. Cooking and then eating our creation was amazing, and I got a good laugh out of watching Henry struggle with cutting the vegatables. Getting the flaming unicorn badge was a great end to the day. ANGUS TARNEIT SCOUT GROUP

“My day was all about teamwork and responsibility. We’ve been really busy doing dishes and working in the food shed. It’s tough work, but ensuring all the Scouts get their food feels incredibly fulfilling.” Robert Atkins 1st Hurstbridge “The highlight of my day was definitely the quad bikes. And then, smashing cars was just the cherry on top. I never expected to do something this cool on the first day of the Jamboree!” Austin Tyler 1st Picnic Point “Today, I explored geology, which was fascinating. Learning how to identify different rocks and understanding the land’s history was an eye-opening experience for me on the first day here.” Morgan Cost Warragul Scout Group

Today was a day of firsts for me at the Jamboree. I got to fire a rifle and ride a quad bike for the first time ever. This place has already surpassed all my expectations on the very first day COBALT 1ST PICNIC POINT
