COLLISION

OF

Defiant Political Oppressors is a timely analysis that is at once theologically and politically incisive. Trump—a modern-day Pharaoh—and his minions adamantly refuse to let the nation go free. What is on the horizon when Ol’ Pharaoh and his army just won’t quit?

Dare to engage this important message—an in-depth perspective on the intervening fight to preserve the freedom, truth, and justice of American democracy. It speaks clearly to crucial issues and consequences when errant and oppressive political practices collide with theology.

Even though more than a year has passed since the insurrection of January 6, 2021, there is yet little doubt that the political oppression of anti-democracy forces in the nation have not abated but have intensified.

The spirit and strategies of Trumpism proponents continue to permeate the society, threatening our democratic governing values, traditions, and institutions. Ex-President Trump and his advocates of Trumpism told the “Big Lie” of a “rigged” election, incited the insurrection, and continue to foment the current crisis in American democracy.

Adherents to Trumpism show an insatiable greed for political power and collectively evince implicit biases for white racial supremacy. They refuse to renounce the failed attempt to subvert the government.

As political oppressors they further incriminate themselves by speaking against and refusing to fully cooperate with the January 6 Commission that is investigating the insurrection attack on the nation’s Capitol. Trumpism loyalists openly challenge the authority and hearings of this U.S. Select Committee, downplaying the arrest and prosecution of hundreds of the insurrectionists. Further, they do so despite the Commission’s early findings that have uncovered sufficient evidence to file the more serious charge of “seditious conspiracy” against eleven insurrectionists for their mobaction against the nation’s government.

Fear grips elected officials within this sociopolitical stream—fears of threats and reprisals from Trump and his Trumpism enforcers.

Their fears have debilitated these politicians from telling the truth and acting civilly as responsible citizens and honorable elected representatives. These defiant oppressors persistently spread the “Big Lie” and other falsehoods, despite the serious repercussions

of a disinformation campaign whose effects are eroding the nation’s civil, political, multiracial, and multicultural integrity; their unrighteous practices are degenerating the moral ethos of the nation. Trumpism supporters have given a slap in the face to American citizens by stringently opposing and blocking voting rights—the pillar of democracy.

Their partisan schemes to sabotage or subvert fair democratic processes—by electing state and local officials who can overturn voting results in targeted areas—is unsettling, and sickening. Obviously, Trumpism adherents

manifest themselves as defiant perpetrators of oppression.

Politically and socially destabilizing effects of Trumpism raise crucial and disturbing questions: At what cost will Trumpism’s defiant oppressors continue to stoke political chaos, and violence? How close is the United States on the verge of experiencing civil disintegration and the implosion of American democracy?

What dire consequences must the nation confront to preserve its freedom from the extreme ideology of Trumpism anti-democracy?

What kind of mindset makes Trumpism operatives foolishly believe they can personally escape paying the mounting charges for their political malfeasance? How is it possible for

them to avoid reaping the painful cost of their destructive behaviors when the time to settle eventually comes due?

Rev. Dr. McCray writes with the courage of the “Watchman” who answers the people’s perturbing question “What of the night?” (cf.

This biblical precedent of a Red Sea Divine intervention by the “Warrior-Deliverer” God offers prophetic hope to all people who suffer the effects of defiant political oppression.  Asserts that believers should strongly embrace the theological idea of a Divine intervention to reverse the threatening political affairs of America. According to Scientific American, “if only one kidney is present, that kidney can adjust to filter as much as two kidneys would normally . . . this happens with no adverse effects, even over years.” “The message is awareness, that’s the ultimate goal,” says Steve Wilson who will be climbing with Hulick.

“More people would consider donating if they knew how easy the surgery is, it saves someone’s life and it doesn’t have to change yours at all.”

According to the National Kidney Donation Organization (NKDO), more than 100,000 people in the U.S. are on the waiting list for kidney transplants.

Over 3,000 new patients are added to this list every month. With fewer donors than there are those in need, 13 people die every day waiting for a kidney.

And aside from the physical considerations, it’s the emotional benefit the donor athletes have experienced that motivates them on this quest. According to Wilson, recipients are grateful to the donors, but it works the other way around too. “I may never meet my recipient, but if I do, I will give her a tight, long hug and say thank you for giving me the opportunity to live past myself.”

The benefits of being a recipient of a living donor may be apparent, but what isn’t as obvious is the positive impact donation can have on the person donating. As in all major surgeries, there is an inherent risk, however, we’re born with two kidneys, but in most cases, we can not only survive but thrive with one.

NUTRITIONAL ADVICE TO AVOID GLAUCOMA Eat right to protect your sight. That’s the advice of the Glaucoma Research Foundation, which offers its recipe for healthier eyes.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that cause progressive vision loss through damage to the optic nerve. It is the second-leading cause of blindness.

It occurs five times more often in Blacks and about 10 years earlier in Blacks than other ethnic groups, according to the foundation. As with other health issues, good nutrition can make a difference for your eyes, the foundation notes.  FRUITS AND VEGGIES Fruits and veggies are good sources of vitamins A and C, as well as the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin.

These can protect against oxidative stress associated with damage to the optic nerve and other tissues of the eye in glaucoma.

START YOUR NEW YEAR WEIGHT LOSS PLAN What most personal trainers will say is the key to working out is to start. You’ve got to begin to be great. But many of us don’t want to start exercising (or stop) because we don’t know what really works or how to begin in the first place. Beginning an exercise program can be very overwhelming– even painful if you aren’t careful. So we’ve created a few key areas (and even a sample workout) that will help ANYONE get a good workout in and lose your first 20 pounds.  WA RM -UP Warming your body up prior to exercise is very important for your health (and safety) and will also help you enjoy your workouts more. Warming up for 5-10 minutes will raise your body temperature and prepare your cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems for the demands of exercise by slowly increasing the blood circulation to and from your heart and muscles.

Warming up helps your connective tissues better handle the stress of exercise, decreasing your chance of injury. Connective tissue is similar to hard plastic; if you don’t warm-up plastic it won’t be flexible, and is much more likely to “break.”

Proper warm-ups (and cool downs) also help reduce the severity of soreness in the next day or two following your workout.

The increased blood flow helps deliver more oxygen to the muscles and gets rid of the waste products that contribute to soreness.

Warm-up with a low-impact exercise at a slower, more comfortable pace than your actual workout. Warm-up exercises like biking, an elliptical machine, walking, or rowing allow your body to warm up with

Start out with a few exercises and slowly progress. Your body will gradually adapt to the increased stress. If you are starting resistance training for the first time, try picking 1-2 exercises for each area of the body – the upper body, lower body, and core.

Also, take into consideration the anterior (front) and posterior (back) parts of the body.

For example, if you pick two core exercises, you might try bicycle crunch for the abdominals (front of the body) and lumbar extension for the lower back (posterior part of the body).  C H O O S I N G T H E R I GH T W EI GH T L OSS E X E RC I S E P ROGR AM If your form breaks down before the last 1020% of your repetitions then you are using too much weight and you still need to be fighting to keep that form solid for those last few movements as well.

Here’s a SAMPLE WEIGHT LOSE EXERCISE PROGRAM (Alternate workouts each week, 3 times a week):

3 sets of 8-10 reps. 2 minutes rest between sets.

If you are a beginner to aerobic training, start out with something like walking that raises your heart rate a little bit, nothing that will get you too out of breath. Try doing this for 10 minutes the first few times you exercise, slowly progressing the duration of the workout. If you’ve increased the time to a point where you can handle 30 minutes at that pace, start building a little more intensity. For example, you could attempt 2 or 3 days of 30 minutes each at your initial pace, followed by a 10-minute day at an increased intensity.  MON I T OR YOU R EN ERGY L EVEL Another area of frustration for the beginner is energy level. Most people expect to exercise the first few weeks and experience a shot of energy. In actuality, the opposite often occurs. Your body isn’t used to the added stress, which causes you to feel fatigued and even drained, especially if you overdo it. Don’t get discouraged; it’s

natural to feel this way until your body adapts. As your body acclimates itself, your cardiovascular system will become more conditioned, causing you to have more energy and focus throughout the day. Your efforts will pay off.

 UNDERS TAND HOW T O DEAL WITH SORENESS

Overexertion will trigger stiffness and soreness, causing many people to give up on exercise completely. If you do overdo it, there are a few things you can do to feel better.

Exercise actually breaks your muscles down – sleep, nutrition, and hydration play a vital role in their recovery. Proper rest, refueling your body with healthy food, and drinking plenty of water will help you recover much more quickly.

In the days that follow, doing a low impact exercise at a low to moderate intensity and stretching will deliver more oxygen and blood to help clean out the waste and bring more nutrients to your muscles.

Workout A Squats 3 sets of 8-10 reps. 2 minutes rest between sets.

Bench Press

3 sets of 8-10 reps. 2 minutes rest between sets.

ALT was a trailblazer in the fashion industry when he became the first Black man to be creative director for Vogue from 1988 to 1995 and then again from 1998 to 2013. Talley wrote several books, including Valentino, A.L.T.: A Memoir, A.L.T. 365+ and Little

Black Dress for Assouline. His recent memoir, “The Chiffon Trenches” became a New York Times Bestseller and he was the subject of the documentary “The Gospel.” Andre Leon Talley paved the way for many people of color to enter the world of fashion.

“I remember when Andre Leon Talley asked me to stand in a room full of a hundred people, when he came to Parsons the New School, my alma mater, in that moment he spoke life to me as a designer and I will never forget it. It is my honor to pay homage

From a pool of over 70 designers the Harlem Fashion Week Creative Director, Jewnell, has selected 10 designers to showcase an original kaftan inspired by Andre Leon Talley.
