HUD REPEALS PROPOSAL

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that it would be rescinding a Trump-era proposal to gut the Equal Access Rule. The 2016 Equal Access Rule explicitly prohibits discrimination in HUD-funded housing and programs on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. In addition, the rule provides inclusive definitions for families, and makes clear that individuals seeking emergency housing cannot be turned away because of their gender identity and have a right to be housed safely and in accordance with their gender identity. In 2020, the Trump Administration issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that would have drastically undermine protections for transgender and gender non-conforming people served by HUD programs by equipping emergency shelters with ways to turn away transgender and gender nonconforming people. The 2020 rule was not finalized before the end of the Trump administration.

REPEAL EQUAL ACCESS RULE

The Trump Administration left a long legacy of devastating attacks on trans Americans and their families, and we praise Secretary Fudge’s leadership in taking necessary steps to preserve and implement the Equal Access Rule. LGBTQ people, especially those from communities of color, already face discrimination at unacceptably high rates. Trans and non-binary people are significantly more likely to be experiencing homelessness, and consequences from that experience, especially for young people, can last a lifetime. ASREF, a joint venture between Strategic Development Solutions and Vintage Realty Company, is an impact fund that seeks to finance projects that positively impact lowincome and moderate-income communities in need of economic and community development. ASREF is focused on 10 states across the Southern U.S. and provides equity, preferred equity and mezzanine debt for third-party real estate developers.

Built in 1960, 1200 Mobile St. consists of two apartment buildings totaling 11,848 square feet in Hunter Hills, a neighborhood that came to life in the 1940s and 1950s as one of the few planned Black communities of its time, attracting both blue- and whitecollar home owners to its traditional cottages and ranch style houses.

on the planned Westside expansion of the Atlanta BeltLine, and will be close to MARTA’s West Lake station, nearby interstates, the Quarry Yards development and several planned parks.

Patty Brubaker from Keller Williams’ The Property Guys of Atlanta team was the realtor and Yakhin Israel from Twin Pillar Capital arranged the financing.

Ashani O’Mard, executive director of AAHF, also a social impact fund, said, “We’re excited about how this team is bringing innovative solutions to Atlanta’s housing crisis.”

AAHF’s mission is to raise and deploy $25 million in low-cost capital while generating a modest return to its investors. The fund offers a mix of debt and preferred equity to qualified developers and sponsors who are creating or preserving affordable housing that might not otherwise be developed.

The fund has raised $13.1 million from foundations, organizations and individuals to date, of which about $6.5 million has been committed to nonprofit and mission-driven developers.

Juneteenth is a celebration of history, hope, endurance, growth and family.

It is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and providing freedom to the enslaved. It is officially celebrated on June 19th.

Juneteenth 1865 is the day that a Union Army General arrived in Texas to let the enslaved know that slavery had been abolished—30 months after Lincoln's proclamation. Today’s technology would have made that announcement almost instantaneous. “However, we’re still lagging far behind the equal

RARE DISEASE DIVERSITY COALITION Observes NATIONAL MINORITY HEALTH MONTH In observance of National Minority Health Month, the Rare Disease Diversity Coalition (RDDC) announced today that its steering committee meeting will feature a keynote address by and discussion with scholar, surgeon, and president of Howard University Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick. Composed of influential health experts and patient advocacy executives, including leaders from the Black Women’s Health Imperative, other ethnic minority health groups, rare disease organizations, and medical associations, the Rare Disease Diversity Coalition (RDDC) was formed in 2020 to help address the extraordinary challenges faced by rare disease patients of color.

The Rare Disease Diversity Coalition supports the work of HBCU medical schools. During its April 27 steering committee meeting, the RDDC will continue its work to create solutions to impact the significant health disparities faced by communities of color, with a special emphasis on the inequities

that rare disease patients of color experience. The group will discuss its efforts to increase the participation of communities of color in rare disease research and clinical trials by addressing regulatory flexibility. The meeting will discuss the coalition’s ongoing work to implement the priorities outlined in its 2021 “Charting the Path Forward for Equity in Rare Diseases” report and action plan, aimed at the barriers that rare disease patients of color face.

GSA REVIVES COMMITMENT The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced its commitment to 100 percent renewable electricity sources for the federal real estate portfolio by 2025. By leveraging its purchasing power, GSA will provide renewable energy to its real estate footprint of 186 million square feet.

But what if we don’t have any?

People are still concerned about Paul Ehrlich’s “Population Bomb,” but apparently haven’t noticed that we are closing schools while building old people’s homes, where many staff members are immigrants and many residents have no one to visit them.

Most of the world, except for Africa, has below replacement-level fertility. Soon, children whose mother tongue is Italian, French, or German may be the minority in their parents’ land. Even with immigration, the U.S. has fallen below replacement level.

For powerful global elites, this is cause for celebration. Prince Phillip once said that he would like to be reincarnated as a deadly virus as revenge against humanity’s overpopulation and destruction of nature.

Some vow not to have children, to protect our future, but they could change their minds. And people weren’t scared enough to give up conveniences like flying, or to create poverty and hunger by shutting down the industrial economy.

Then along came the spikey virus—one graphic shows the Death Star from Star Wars festooned with spikes. In dread of coronadoom, people have meekly complied with drastic curtailments of their liberties and economic constraints guaranteeing the destruction of businesses not protected by government. Rules supposed to last 14 days are extended repeatedly, with constantly moving goalposts. The climate alarmists don’t want things to ever go back to normal.

“Protect the vulnerable!” say signers of the Great Barrington Declaration, and let the rest of society work and live. Unlike

other disasters that wiped out human populations—war, famine, civil discord, and most serious epidemics, COVID-19 attacks primarily the elderly and infirm. It was logical to vaccinate the elderly first.

Some died, and some had serious side effects. The experts point out that someone who died after the COVID jab possibly died of something else (the timing was just coincidental) or might have died later of COVID-19. “The benefits exceed the risk,” they say.

But the vaccinations don’t stop with highrisk persons. Multibillionaire oligarchs and “philanthropists”—most prominently the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—want to vaccinate everybody in the world. Or maybe just everybody else. Climate change diva Greta Thunberg has just announced that the Greta Thunberg Foundation will donate 100,000 euros to “vaccine equity.”

When those dedicated to reducing humanity’s “footprint” on the planet suddenly switch to universal vaccination, should some caution lights flash?

They are coming for the children. First with experiments—although minors cannot give informed consent. Likely then with warpspeed mandates that are illegal for notyet-FDA-approved products given under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). Why? Does COVID-19 kill children? Almost never. Do children infect Grandma? Almost never. Does the vaccine keep you from transmitting disease? Possibly—but keep wearing that mask.

Pregnant women were excluded from early trials but are getting the jab anyway.

Some, who were hoping to give their baby antibodies, miscarried or had a stillbirth.

Agencies will investigate, and surely come up with statistics on “extreme rarity,” but let’s see independent forensic pathology on the placentas and dead babies.

The “abundance of caution” CDC has paused the J&J vaccine after six young women developed rare blood clots (cerebral sinus thrombosis), although it’s only one in a million, they say. The European Medicines Agency briefly paused the similar AstraZeneca vaccine, meant to be the “workhorse of Covax,” after 18 deaths

from clots. It admits to adverse events in 1 in 100,000. Now some countries allow its use only in older persons. Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, according to the Vaccine Adverse Reporting System (VAERS), have also been linked to clotting and hemorrhage problems. Thousands of deaths from this and other causes, in healthy persons of reproductive age, have been reported—but are still “rare” and possibly coincidental.

It is too soon to know of late effects. First, will there be “pathogenic priming, like with vaccines for the related SARS-CoV-1 virus?

The animals made antibodies and looked fine until exposed to the wild virus. Then the immune system overreaction killed them.

Human use was stopped. For SARS-CoV2, animal trials were skipped.

Concerns about effects on fertility have sparked many reports stating that “there is no evidence” that vaccines cause infertility—ask Google. And where is evidence that they don’t? Animal trials were skipped.

We’ll see what happens when today’s fully vaccinated youth and children try to have babies. Prince Phillip may get his wish.

ENTER TAINMENT America's Black Holocaust Museum Debuts Mandela: THE OFFICIAL E XHIBITION The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) and America’s Black Holocaust Museum (ABHM) are excited to welcome the United States debut of Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition to Milwaukee Friday, April 23 through Sunday, August 1, 2021. This new global-touring exhibition takes visitors on a personal journey through the life of the world’s most iconic freedom fighter and political leader.

“When the Milwaukee Public Museum came to us asking to partner on this project,” said Dr. Robert (Bert) Davis, President & CEO, ABHM, “I knew it was something special and we had to be a part of it. For many people, Nelson Mandela is a hero and other people may not know anything about him, but he was a man. A man with integrity, who fought for justice since he wasn’t much older than a boy. His entire life was about helping others find equality. He was a hero, but he was a man, too. It’s important to share that part -- that Mandela was just like everyone else but made the choice to fight for freedom and equality, just like we can.”

An immersive experience, visitors will discover Nelson Mandela as they have never known him before. The exhibition features previously unseen film, photos and the display of over 150 historical artifacts and personal effects on loan from the Mandela family, museums and archives worldwide to provide fresh insight into the people, places and events that formed his character and the challenges he faced.

Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition reveals his epic story in a series of experiential zones. It takes visitors on Mandela’s life journey, from his little-known beginnings in rural Mvezo, Transkei, through decades of turbulent struggle against the apartheid regime, to his eventual vindication and final years as South Africa’s first black president, “Father of South Africa,” and a globally loved and respected figure.

Even today, Nelson Mandela remains a human rights icon and to be seen as an advocate for change. MPM invites its visitors to join this call to action in continuing the journey of Nelson Mandela through:  Onsite exhibit engagements, such as dialogue and mindfulness prompts;  The MPM “My Mandela Pledge,” supported by The Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation and U.S. Bank, in which visitors are challenged to take a pledge in giving 67 minutes, hours or

days of their time back to their community;  Highlighting community partners and their respective events and programs;  Virtual panel discussions on systemic racism as well as interviews with changemakers;  A community-based art project;  And more.

MPM will virtually debut a new Planetarium program, Stargazers of Africa, in celebration of this exhibition. Presented by Generac, this new show takes visitors on a journey connecting the stars, moon and planets to the people across the great continent of Africa -- from long ago to the stargazers of today.

Teachers and schools will also be provided the opportunity to experience the exhibit virtually through FREE programs and resources which can connect with curriculums beyond the run of the exhibit.

These items include: the suit worn for the opening of the South African parliament in 1996; a traditional headdress gifted to him by The King of Xhosa people, King

Xolilzwe Sigcawu as he awarded Mandela the ancient tribal warrior honour of the Isithwalandwe Sesizwe; his presidential desk and chair; and his iconic beige trench coat.

Visitors will also gain unique insights from close family and friends of Nelson Mandela as well as those who admired him from afar.

These firsthand insights combined with his personal artifacts reveal the deeper stories behind the headlines and bring us closer to the man behind the myth.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens announced today that it has received a $1 million donation from local businessman Hari Hariharan. The donation will help fund new diabetes management services at the hospital and update related equipment, including a wide field camera for the ophthalmology clinic, and upgrades to existing exam rooms. Mr. Hariharan recently received his COVID-19 vaccine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens in February and was extremely impressed by the kindness, professionalism, and efficiency of the staff, which encouraged his decision to make the donation. Mr. Hariharan is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NWI Management LP, an alternative investment adviser. The equipment and physical upgrades will be acquired by the summer.

“We are honored to accept this generous contribution from Mr. Hariharan on behalf of the central and southeast Queens communities,” said CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens Neil J. NEW SCHOLARSHIP Puts College Within Reach STRIDE, INC. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on factors including their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, educational and career goals, and financial need.

Surprisingly, many parents remain unaware of how deeply the tragedy has affected their children. The suppression of traumatic responses is not healthy, and parents shouldn't take the lack of response for granted, assuming their sons are well. Mariya Russell, chef de cuisine of Chicago’s Kikko and Kumiko is credited as the first Black woman to earn a Michelin star in the Guide’s 94-year history. The Michelin Guide is one of the oldest guide books, published by the Michelin tire company first in 1926, rating restaurants and hotels. The Michelin star is a mark of excellence for restaurateurs and one of the highest honors a chef can receive.

Like many chefs, Russell’s interest in food started at a young age. She lived in Springfield, Ohio, until she was 14, at which point her family moved to Columbus for her high

school years. In high school, she participated in a career academy that first introduced her to the idea of working in a restaurant.

From there she moved to Chicago after high school to attend The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago (a Le Cordon Bleu school that closed in 2017). She got her first job as a line cook.

She met Noah Sandoval, the owner of Kikko and Kumiko, when they both worked at another restaurant, Green Zebra. She has been a trusted collaborator of Sandoval and her work ethic shines through in both her food and leadership.
