The eight days of early voting will make voting more convenient for voters whose professional or family obligations make it difficult to physically get to the polls, as

well as reduce waiting times and ease logistical burdens for poll workers. A central component of Governor Cuomo's 2019 Justice Agenda, this measure was signed into law by the Governor on January 24, 2019. This will be the first election in New York State with a period of early voting. "Too many generations of New Yorkers have been discouraged from exercising their right to vote, and this year we enacted a series of new measures to

fix that and help bring our voting laws into the 21st century," Governor Cuomo said.

"Early voting is just one of the many steps we've taken to break down barriers to democracy, and I encourage New Yorkers to take advantage of this opportunity to skip the lines on Election Day and ensure their voices are heard at the ballot box."

On January 24, 2019, Governor Cuomo signed a comprehensive package of

reforms to modernize New York's voting laws, including synchronizing federal and state elections to ensure that voters only go to the polls once to choose their nominees; allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote; and enacting universal transfer of voter registrations. These historic new laws were a key component of the Governor's 2019 Justice Agenda and were signed within the first 100 days of the 2019 legislative session.

ENTER TAINMENT “KICKED IT IN HEELS” 7th Annual Gala On Wednesday, October 16 at 7pm, Kicked it in Heels (KIIH) hosted their Annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser which has become a marquee event that promotes breast cancer awareness while celebrating survivorship.

For the 7th consecutive year, KIIH hosted a cocktail party designed to raise funds to eradicate healthcare disparities in breast cancer and to support survivor workshops that focus on wellness, beauty and fashion.

This year brought together over 150 attendees: survivors and supporters of the work KIIH does.

Nicole Cosby, a Technology Marketing Executive was the evening’s honoree. Celebrity DJ, Kiss the Deejay entertained the crowd, and Co-host of The View

and Truth About Murder, Sunny Hostin, hosted the evening.

Kicked It In Heels (KIIH) focuses on breast cancer survivors, specifically, young women and women of color. “African Americans and other minorities tend to have a worse prognosis and lower survival outcomes compared to Caucasions,” explains Dr. Janna Andrews, M.D., and Founder of KIIH. “Additionally, I felt the support in survivorship was lacking.

New Book Examines How BLACK VOTERS Have Been Misled In what is sure to be called a “controversial” new book, Rev. Bill Owens, President and Founder of the Coalition of African American Pastors, asks an important question: What has happened to prevent black Americans from achieving the dream outlined by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and other civil rights leaders?

The book, titled A Dream Derailed: How the Left Hijacked Civil Rights to Create a Permanent Underclass, considers the many ways in which leftist policies wielded by cynical politicians have hurt African Americans and derailed Dr. King’s dream. From abortion and education to economics and the family, the policies embraced by the Left have been disastrous for African Americans.

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr states, “In A Dream Derailed, Rev. Owens does more than outline the harm caused by these policies. Using Biblical values as a framework, Owens demonstrates what African Americans – and all Americans – need to do to break free of the lies and find their way to the Promised Land.”

As someone who marched with Dr. King, Owens takes issue with the way many have fallen away from its Christian foundations. No one – even black leaders and politicians – is exempt from criticism. In A Dream Derailed, Owens writes: “Today, we find that many black leaders have forgotten what inspired that struggle. Many of these leaders urge black Americans to look for inspiration from government and political agendas that undermine the moral fabric of the Church – the same Church that guided the civil rights movement!

Abortion, same-sex marriage, and government encroachment – which subverts religious liberty – are now all proclaimed as ‘freedoms’ by many black leaders. To be sure, the leaders of the civil rights movement saw these as evils and evidence of sin –not signs of freedom.”

Part memoir, part-history, and part call-to-action, A Dream Derailed is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the reason why Christians and minorities are abandoning an increasingly radical Democratic Party.

In an effort to save herself and her son from crippling depression she travels from the metropolitan city of Abidjan to the rural village of Oume where the university education woman she finds her calling as a teacher. Diaka builds a culture of learning in the small village, but then tragedy strikes and her dreams for the future are swept away.

According to Dr. Dale’s Facebook page, “I woke up one morning and wanted my kids to read a book about Black boys interested in something other than sports. I thought…it’d be nice for them to read about kids interested in science & medicine.

Well…I couldn’t find a book for them to read…so I made it for my kids and yours!”

Cuomo has announced a new exhibit, "Harlem Roots," will open later this month in the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building, marking the return of the New York State Harlem Art Collection to the public for the first time since the mid-1990s. The exhibit features select pieces from a collection by artists who have made significant contributions within their communities and the art world at-large. These artists helped elevate what was coined "community art" to what is now considered some of the finest American art created in the 20th century by predominantly Black and Latino artists working in New York City.

The New York State Harlem Art Collection was conceived in 1976 to draw the public's attention to art that celebrated the contributions of the Harlem art community. Then Senator H. Carl McCall established a Harlem State Office Building Committee on Arts and Culture in 1975, which included State and City leaders, as well as representatives of the Harlem business community.

The "Harlem Roots" exhibit will be unveiled at a preview reception open to the public on October 30 in the Powell Building's second-floor Art Gallery and Community Room. Beginning November 15, the free exhibit will be on view to the public from noon to 7 p.m. each Friday.

The building is located at 163 West 125th Street.

The Annual Washington Square Park Halloween Parade and Costume Contest sponsored by NYC-based food company, The Farmer’s Dog, is coming up on Saturday, October 19th from 11 am to 2 pm at the WSP Fountain.

Registering your dog with a $10 donation that will go to the WSP Dog Run Association. by 65 artists. Several of these artists are now considered major contributors to the history of American art with works that can be found in MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the National Museum of African American History & Culture, the Tate Modern and as part of major national and international exhibitions.

The "Harlem Roots" exhibit features works by artists in the collection, such as Jacob Lawrence, Roy DeCarava, Palmer Hayden and Elizabeth Catlett.

The public can expect to see additional pieces, such as painter Barkley Hendricks' Lamont on the Case, in future exhibits, which will display art from the collection on a revolving basis over the next year.

Building Committee on Arts and Culture held a ceremony to announce works chosen for the Harlem Art Collection. The following year, an exhibition, "Selections from the Harlem State Office Building" opened and included many of the newly purchased artwork, including Masquerade by Jacob Lawrence.

Throughout the 1980s, art from the collection was exhibited regularly, interspersed with special exhibitions in the building, which was renamed the "Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building" in 1983.

In the mid-1990s, most of the collection was moved into storage in the basement of the building to make way for exhibits of works by local contemporary artists and student artists in the community.
