On behalf of the entire New York State Golf Association, welcome to the 69th Women’s Senior and 15th Women’s Super Senior Championships!
The NYSGA is pleased to join with the leadership and staff of RaNic Golf Club to provide a memorable challenge in crowning New York State’s Women’s Senior and Super-Senior winners.

We are proud to return to this classic Geoffry Cornish layout in Ithaca. The site, formerly known as the Country Club of Ithaca, has been the host of several memorable New York State Championships throughout the decades, including the 1973 and 1994 Girls’ Junior and the 1973 and 2013 Women’s Amateur. This is the first time the Women’s Senior and Super Senior will take place at RaNic.
We certainly anticipate an exciting and memorable competition over the next several days, and the golf course and setup will surely challenge the players to utilize their full ability and skill.
I’d like to offer our thanks and appreciation to the management, club and pro shop staff, and especially the course grounds crew, whose combined efforts have provided us with this wonderful championship venue.
Finally, I’d like to thank our NYSGA staff and fantastic team of tournament volunteers, who work tirelessly to provide a first-class experience and support the talented players that participate in our competitions.
We hope you enjoy this year’s championship and we appreciate your support of our association and tournaments. If there’s anything that we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of the NYSGA staff.
Sincerely,

Henry W. Fust , President New York State Golf Association

RaNic Golf Club, formerly known as the Country Club of Ithaca was founded in 2020 by the Whittaker family. The owners, Sean and Jennifer Whittaker, were inspired by their two children Rachel and Nicholas Whittaker to rename the Golf Club with the ship name of “RaNic”. RaNic’s mission is to shift from a country club perspective towards a more inclusive semi-private Golf Club.
During the first half of the 1900s, the clubhouse and golf course changed locations several times in the Cayuga Heights area, moving from Wycoff Avenue to Highland Avenue. In the 1920s, the Club moved again to Triphammer and Jessup Roads and built an 18‐hole course.
In 1958, the Club sold some of its land to Cornell and built a new clubhouse, swimming pool, and the present‐day course where it is today. Geoffry Cornish, our course architect, was one of the premiere designers of the time. For additional recreation, tennis courts were added in the 1970s. One of the main driving factors to becoming a member at RaNic is the new vision of a semi-private golf club where members are provided with access to - banquets, catering, dining, fitness center, golf, pickleball, shopping, social events, summer camps, and more.
Thank you to the staff at RaNic Golf Club for hosting this year’s championship!

Kim Kaul emerged victorious at the 68th New York State Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at Pinehaven Country Club, finishing at ten-over 154.

This title marks Kaul’s third senior championship, with her first two coming in 2008 and 2015. It was especially meaningful to her because she lost in a playoff in the 2018 championship at Thendara Golf Club.
“Three years ago I felt I gave the championship away,” Kaul said. “That was my last tournament because I had surgery then COVID so I’ve been wanting to get back to this and claim the title again.”
In regards to her round, she added, “I’m just very pleased at how I played and held it together. Yesterday I had two double bogeys and just bore down and made a couple birdies so that really helped culminate yesterday’s round. Then today I only had one real bad mistake.”
Kaul, a member at East Aurora Country Club, entered the back nine tied with Teresa Cleland of Bellevue Country Club at eight-over. She bogeyed on ten, but responded with two consecutive pars and a birdie on thirteen to get back to eight-over.
On the other hand, Cleland suffered a pair of bogeys and a double-bogey on thirteen, allowing Kaul to open a three-stroke lead with five holes remaining.
“That was probably where I gained an advantage,” Kaul said. “I’ve known [Cleland] since college and we’ve known each other for a really long time, but in the cart together we are each other’s support and rooting for each other, so it’s interesting because you’re competing against somebody but they’re also cheering for you too...that’s the kind of person T is.”
Her one mistake that she mentioned on hole nine was her only double-bogey of the round. She chunked a chip shot, then two-putted the par-three hole.

“Other than that my short game was really sharp today,” Kaul said. “I missed one putt that I should’ve made so other than that I just tried to stay in the moment.”
There was one point in her round yesterday where Kaul thought that she had played herself out of the tournament. She began her back nine with consecutive double bogeys. After checking the leaderboard, she was pleased to find out that she was near the top, and helped her lock in for the rest of the round. She carried the momentum into today’s round, and sat atop the leaderboard at the end.
“It got my thoughts collected and got me back on my game,” Kaul said. “I’m just very pleased. I’ve played a lot of competitive golf over the last couple weeks, I’m exhausted so I’m just happy to have claimed the title this year.”
Cleland finished runner-up at 14-over 158. Three players tied for third place at 161: Mary Scatena of the host Pinehaven Country Club, 2018 champion Tammy Blyth of Monroe Golf Club and 2014 champion Susan Kahler of Ballston Spa Country Club.
Mary Sicard of Queensbury Country Club, the 2019 champion, finished eighth at 163.

Gross Winners: Nikki Fowler of Stone Creek GC (50-54), Scatena (55-59), Cleland (60-64)
Net Winners: Molly Flynn of East Aurora Country Club (50-54), Nancy Kroll of Schenectady Municipal Golf (55-59), Blyth (60-64)

In the concurrent Super Senior Division for women ages 65 and older, Mary Jo Kelly of Wolferts Roost Country Club shot 14-over 158 to capture the title.

This was Kelly’s second state championship, her first came at the 1980 NYS Women’s Amateur at Foxfire.
“It does feel good,” Kelly said. “I really wasn’t thrilled with how I played but a win is a win. I got it done.”
Her best stretch came on holes thirteen through seventeen in the final round, where she posted a pair of birdies and three pars after bogeying her first three holes.
“That kind of settled me down for a few holes until we made the turn,” Kelly said. “Then I struggled, I made par getting up and down on my tenth and eleventh holes and then I had a couple bogeys then I settled back down. The double bogey rears its ugly head occasionally.”
She noted that she struggled with short irons shots, and got nervous as she got

closer to the green, similar to her round yesterday.
“The nerves creep into your wedge shots around the green and you chip poorly then you’re struggling to putt,” Kelly said. “It’s just nerves.”
Though she was able to build a lead as big as five strokes to coast to her first Super Senior title.
“I hemmed and hawed about which division to get in to, and I think I made the right choice,” Kelly said. “It’s fun to test your game...hopefully I’ve taken something away from here and can learn.”
She did find the course advantageous, given she’s been playing events at Pinehaven CC since she was a teenager.
“I loved the course. Pinehaven was great,” Kelly said. “I’ve been playing here over the years in junior events, then adult events and now super senior events so I’m pretty familiar with the course.”
Deborah Enders of Links at Erie Village finished runner up at 160, while Leslie Arakelian of Orchard Creek was third at 161. Lynn Quinn of Clifton Springs Country Club (166) and Kathy Harkins of Ballston Spa Country Club (167) rounded out the top five.
Kitty Colliflower of Oak Hill Country Club, the 2019 champion, finished sixth at 168.
Winner were recognized for gross and net in both championships, in the following age groups: 65-69, 70-74, 75+
Gross Winners: Enders (65-69), Colleen Rutt of NYSGA eClub - Western NY (7074), and Sandra Weckter of Pinehaven Country Club (75+).
Net Winners: Mary Corrigan of Western Turnpike Golf Club (65-69), Maxine Tucker of Ballston Spa Country Club (70-74) and Barbara Dewall of Trumansburg Golf Club (75+).

We’d like to recognize our partner regional associations for the exceptional work they do in promoting the game of golf.

Since its founding in 2003, the NYSGA Foundation has impacted thousands of people through golf related programs such as scholarships, junior golf programs, supporting local first tee chapters, free USGA GHIN Handicaps for juniors, recognizing the top contributors through the NYSGA Hall of Fame, and much more. The Foundation is a 501c(3) and all donations made to support these amazing programs are tax deductible.
ESTABLISHED IN 2012
The NYSGA Hall of Fame’s mission is to identify, recognize, and enshrine the state's finest amateur and professional golf competitors, as well as those who have made outstanding contributions to the game throughout New York by their careers as golf teachers, coaches, mentors, and volunteers to the game.
FUNDING SCHOLARSHIPS SINCE 1967
The NYSGA Scholarship Fund annually awards $30,000 to deserving students, with over $500,000 given since 1967. Eligible students must be in their second year of employment at an NYSGA member club, be in good academic standing, and demonstrate a financial need. The Foundation’s goal is to increase the amount raised in order to give out more awards through the NYSGA Foundation Membership Program.
FOUNDED IN 2021
The money raised via the NYSGA Foundation Membership Program directly funds college scholarships for NYSGA member club employees. Supporters of the fund come from participating clubs and individual members across the state. Donations of $100 or more will be recognized on the NYSGA website, “Supporters of the Fund”.
Youth on Course is a junior golf membership for boys and girls 6-18 to play participating courses for just $5. Founded by the Northern California Golf Association in 2006, it is now offered in all 50 states, with over 70,000 members, 950,000 subsidized rounds of golf, and 15 million holes played. The NYSGA currently partners with 13 courses and has 60 junior members. Youth on Course promotes the game to today’s youth, allowing them to build strong long lasting relationships and instilling core values.
