On behalf of the entire New York State Golf Association, welcome to the 2022 New York State Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Amateur Championships!
The NYSGA is pleased to join with the leadership and staff of Soaring Eagles Golf Course to provide a memorable challenge in crowning New York State’s Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Amateur winners.
We are proud to return to this Pete Craig layout in Horseheads for the first time in nearly 40 years. Soaring Eagles Golf Course has been the host site of three Boys’ 18U and 14U Championships, in 1973, 1979 and 1983.

We certainly anticipate an exciting and memorable competition over the next several days, and the golf course and setup will surely challenge the players to utilize their full ability and skill.
I’d like to offer our thanks and appreciation to the management, club and pro shop staff, and especially the course grounds crew, whose combined efforts have provided us with this wonderful championship venue.
Finally, I’d like to thank our NYSGA staff and fantastic team of tournament volunteers, who work tirelessly to provide a first-class experience and support the talented players that participate in our competitions.
We hope you enjoy this year’s championship and we appreciate your support of our association and tournaments. If there’s anything that we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of the NYSGA staff.
Sincerely,

Henry W. Fust , President New York State Golf Association

Named for the great 19th-century author who spent summers in the region, Mark Twain State Park is the home of one of the most scenic and challenging 18-hole courses in the area.
The course has a unique 18-hole design with only two parallel holes. The excellent conditions for this course were created thousands of years ago by a retreating glacier which laid down hundreds of feet of sand, gravel and silt. Buried ice blocks slowly melted, leaving water-filled depressions or “kettle ponds” on the course.
The scenic and challenging course provides a fitting venue for New York’s top junior amateur players to compete for state championships.
Thank you to the staff at Soaring Eagles for hosting this year’s championship!

Delisanti pulled away on the back nine to win by three strokes.
Anthony Delisanti of Willowbrook Golf Club secured the 79th NYS Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship at Seven Oaks Golf Club with an even-par 144 finish.

Delisanti has participated in the NYS Junior Amateur for several years and earned a top-ten finish in 2019. On Wednesday, he won his first NYS title by three strokes.
“It’s an honor,” Delisanti said. “I think the first time I played in one of these was when I was a sub-junior at Ridgemont Country Club. It was probably like six, seven years ago.”
Delisanti was tied with Shawn Colella of Bellevue Country Club and Nick Lyons of Schuyler Meadows Club after round one, where each of them shot one-under 71. Colella led heading into the back nine, but Delisanti converted birdies on holes 10 and 12 to take possession of the lead.
“(No. 12 is) a short par five, it’s a birdie hole for sure,” Delisanti said. “I just hit a good tee shot and gave myself a good chance and left it in a good spot to get up and down.”
After hole 12, Delisanti would not relinquish his lead, and sunk his third and final birdie of the day on 18 to seal the victory.
“The greens were definitely a little more receptive today,” Delisanti said. “The back nine I usually play pretty well out here so I looked to make some birdies on the back. I knew it was close...I really just tried to keep it in play as much as I could.”
Phillip Minnehan of Locust Hill Country Club took home runner-up honors, shooting threeover 147.

“I was really just trying to put in a good round,” Minnehan said. “I played solid. I’ve been playing really solid all year so to just keep that rolling was nice...Definitely pleased with (runner-up).”
Though Minnehan did not break par in his two rounds, he did earn consecutive birdies on holes six and seven after a tough start to his second round. On seven, he nearly sunk an eagle putt after sending an aggressive drive that cut through the trees on the dog leg left hole.
“At that point I was three-over. I knew I needed to make a couple birdies to get myself back in it,” Minnehan said.
John Hiller of Westchester Country Club shot the low round of the tournament (70) in his second round to catapult his way to a T3 finish (148). Joining him was Colella, Ryan Edholm of Pendleton Creek Golf Club, and Sam O’Hara of Maidstone Club.
Winners were also recognized based on age groups 15-18 with the following competitors taking home some hardware: Hiller (15), O’Hara (16), Edholm (17), Colella (18).

Zigrossi completed a wire-to-wire victory and captured the 58th New York State Girls’

In her second time competing at the NYS Girls’ Junior, Zigrossi carded a three-over 147 (74-73) in her two days on the course.
“It’s totally unreal,” Zigrossi said. “I was not expecting it at all. I obviously wanted to come in and play well and get it done but now that it’s over, it’s unreal.”
The Ridgemont Country Club member held a one-stroke lead into Wednesday’s final round, and opted to play more conservatively as opposed to her aggressive first-round approach.
“I hit my driver almost every single time yesterday and even today I just played smarter, not harder. I think I played the golf course more instead of trying to make shots,” Zigrossi said.
She opened up a three-stroke lead heading into the back nine, but was unaware of where she stood in the leaderboard until she

approached the fairway on the 18th hole.
“I knew coming down the stretch risking it wouldn’t be the best idea,” Zigrossi said.
Birdies on holes 8 and 14 allowed Zigrossi to grow her lead. She noted that her putting was crucial in helping maintain consistent pars, and the driver was able to set up good approach shots.
“I didn’t have great putting numbers but I didn’t really have to work for my pars which was nice. Little tap-ins were a lot easier to make than four or five footers for par...Swing aggressive to conservative targets is how I played today.”
Lily Zhang, of Park Country Club, took home runner-up honors, carding a sixover 150.
“Being runner-up it’s just a good motivation... and I’m going to be working really hard to get it next year,” Zhang said.
Her best stretch came in the middle portion of the golf course, where she birdied on 5, 7, 9 and 13 to stay within a few strokes of the lead.
“The hole looked pretty big,” Zhang said. “I was telling my dad on the phone that, if I kept the flagstick in, the hole looked so big to me and I just felt that I could make every single putt during that stretch.”
Zhang last played this tournament when she was 11-years-old. Since then, she’s improved significantly.
“I knew that coming into this tournament I had the chance because I had improved a lot but it just wasn’t my time, so I’ll get it next year,” Zhang said. “My driver was pretty straight, it wasn’t as far but it was pretty accurate so I didn’t have to waste a shot on it. My putting really helped today because of how much I saved and how much I needed to make to add pressure.”

Sophia Li (151) of MGA eClub - New York City finished in third place. Amelie Phung (152) of YOC - MGA Club and Renna Chang (153) of Harbor Links Golf Course rounded out the top five.
Winners were also recognized based on age groups with the following competitors earning hardware: Phung (13 & under), Li (14), Sophia Cellura (15), Gwendolyn Yarnall (16), Maryanne Grace (17), and Emily Gresham (18).

Jacob Olearczyk of NYSGA eClub - Central NY secured the 64th title by four strokes at the New York State Boys’ 14U Junior Amateur Championship.

“It feels awesome. It was just a great experience,” Olearczyk said. “I just want to thank my parents. Without them I wouldn’t be in this position.”
In what was his first New York State sanctioned event, Olearczyk carded a 74 in his final round, shooting 147 over two days. Going into his second round on Wednesday, he sat atop the leaderboard with Cole Jones.
“Just starting out I was feeling pretty confident in what I was doing,” Jones said. “I knew where I wanted to end up and where I wanted to be.”
Olearczyk sunk two birdies on the front to even out a pair of bogeys. On hole No. 18 (Olearczyk’s ninth hole of the day), he avoided a bunker on the right side that

allowed him to save par. Headed into the back nine and into the last three holes, the leaderboard was close.
“Some of those bogeys were mental errors, but I did have some birdies to make up for it,” Olearczyk said. “I think if I had been in that bunker, with the water on the other side, it would’ve changed (the hole) a lot, but I ended up making par.”
Olearczyk secured another birdie on his 14th hole to open up a lead. He shot oneover in his final four holes to coast to the victory.

We’d like to recognize our partner regional associations for the exceptional work they do in promoting the game of golf.

Since its founding in 2003, the NYSGA Foundation has impacted thousands of people through golf related programs such as scholarships, junior golf programs, supporting local first tee chapters, free USGA GHIN Handicaps for juniors, recognizing the top contributors through the NYSGA Hall of Fame, and much more. The Foundation is a 501c(3) and all donations made to support these amazing programs are tax deductible.
The NYSGA Hall of Fame’s mission is to identify, recognize, and enshrine the state's finest amateur and professional golf competitors, as well as those who have made outstanding contributions to the game throughout New York by their careers as golf teachers, coaches, mentors, and volunteers to the game. ESTABLISHED IN 2012
The NYSGA Scholarship Fund annually awards $30,000 to deserving students, with over $500,000 given since 1967. Eligible students must be in their second year of employment at an NYSGA member club, be in good academic standing, and demonstrate a financial need. The Foundation’s goal is to increase the amount raised in order to give out more awards through the NYSGA Foundation Membership Program.
FOUNDED IN 2021
The money raised via the NYSGA Foundation Membership Program directly funds college scholarships for NYSGA member club employees. Supporters of the fund come from participating clubs and individual members across the state. Donations of $100 or more will be recognized on the NYSGA website, “Supporters of the Fund”.
