On behalf of the entire New York State Golf Association, welcome to the 9th New York State Amateur and Senior Amateur Mixed Team Championships!
The NYSGA is pleased to join with the leadership and staff of Transit Valley Country Club to provide a memorable challenge in crowning New York State’s top amateur mixed teams.
We are proud to return to Transit Valley for the first time since 2002, when it hosted the NYS Men’s Amateur Championship.

We certainly anticipate an exciting and memorable competition over the next several days, and the golf course and setup will surely challenge the players to utilize their full ability and skill.
I’d like to offer our thanks and appreciation to the membership, club and pro shop staff, and especially the course grounds crew, whose combined efforts have provided us with this wonderful championship venue.
Finally, I’d like to thank our NYSGA staff and fantastic team of tournament volunteers, who work tirelessly to provide a first-class experience and support the talented players that participate in our competitions.
We hope you enjoy this year’s championship and we appreciate your support of our association and tournaments. If there’s anything that we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of the NYSGA staff.
Sincerely,

Henry W. Fust , President New York State Golf Association

Since 1921, Transit Valley Country Club has been an integral part of the Western New York community. During these many years, it have developed a special character and sense of camaraderie which now, as in the past, plays a large part in the development of its true Country Club spirit. The beautiful clubhouse and challenging golf course lend themselves to a tradition and dignity that is a source of pride to all of its members.
The primary focus of the club is golf. Transit Valley’s reputation as one of the finest golf courses drew some of the world’s greatest golfers. Walter Hagen, Sam Snead, Cary Middlecoff, Jackie Burke, Jimmy Thompson, Bobby Locke, and Gene Sarazen all were visiting players. Walter Hagen was an Honorary Member of Transit Valley.
We look forward to a promising future. With a newly expanded and remodeled clubhouse, improved golf course and grounds, updated facilities for other athletic and social events, it has achieved its goal of becoming the premier country club of Western New York.
Thank you to the staff at Transit Valley for hosting this year’s championship!

The Championship is teams consisting of one male and one female amateur golfer who are members of the NYSGA, defined as (1) belonging to an NYSGA member club or (2) as a 2022 NYSGA eClub member (NYS residency required). Players must have an active USGA Handicap Index issued through a licensed golf club.
This Championship will be conducted over 18 holes of modified chapman stroke play. There will be a net and gross winner in each division.
There are two divisions in this Championship: the 9th NYS Amateur Mixed Team (all ages) and Senior Amateur Mixed Team (Men and Women at least 55 and 50, respectively).
The team in each division with the lowest score for 18 holes will be the champion. In the event of a tie in the Championship for the gross winners, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff. Ties for the net winners will be broken by the USGA method of matching scorecards.

The side of Jamie Miller and Chelsea Dantonio (Crag Burn GC) combined to shoot nine-under 63, coasting to victory during the 8th NYS Amateur Mixed Team Championship at Brook-Lea Country Club.

2 A. Pennington / M. Pennington Wiltwyck
N. Braman / M. Braman
A. Conway / J. Hoecker
T5 M. Battle / A. Battle
M. Murphy / J. Murphy
T5 C. Quijano / J. Quijano

Miller and Dantonio finished with ten birdies en route to their three stroke victory. The closest they let Amber (Wiltwyck GC) and Martin Pennington (MGA eClubHudson Valley) come was two strokes behind, as Miller and Dantonio surged with six of their birdies on the back nine to close.
The Pennington’s finished in second after collaborating for six-under 66.
“The last three holes were big ones for us because we both made long putts on each of them,” Dantonio said.
After finishing runner-up in multiple New York State tournaments over the past couple years, Dantonio broke through for her first title, letting out a sigh of relief as she received her trophy on Monday evening.
“It feels great,” she said. “I’m thankful that my brother from another mother came out to help me.”

Miller said each of the putts across the last three holes were about 20 feet, and critical to keeping the distance between them and the field. After a birdie putt improved their score to nine-under after seventeen holes, the side was able to comfortably par on the home hole to make the win official.
“We just wanted to make sure we didn’t give [the Pennington’s] any opportunities,” Miller said. “Always good to win an NYSGA event...I followed [Chelsea] around all day.”
Miller and Dantonio were paired with Nicholas (Shaker Ridge CC) and Madison Braman (NYSGA eClub - Capital District), the 2018 and 2019 Mixed Team champions. The Braman cousins finished tied for third, shooting three-under 69, joined by Andy Conway (Ravenwood GC) and Jenna Hoecker (BrookLea CC).
Winners were also decided for best net score in each division. Amber and Martin Pennington came out on top with a net nine-under 63 (66 gross).

In the concurrently played senior division, two teams finished their round at even-par 72, forcing a sudden-death playoff.
1 K. Webb / L. Webb
2 K. Kaul / A. Melnyk

Kevin (Clifton Spring CC) and Lisa Webb (Mendon GC) secured the title with a par on the first playoff hole, the uphill par-3 eighteenth.
They topped Kim Kaul (East Aurora CC) and Andrew Melnyk (Tuscarora GC), who birdied their final two holes of the day (nos. 10 and 11) to force the extra holes.
Due to inclement weather, the playoff was delayed for over half an hour. Both Kevin and Lisa placed their tee shots on the green, opting to play Kevin’s, which was closer to the hole. Kaul and Melnyk had their second shot from just off the green, but were unable to get up and down. Lisa missed the birdie putt, but left it close enough for Kevin to sink one coming back to win.
“She was awesome, she made all the putts today,” Kevin said afterwards, reluctant to take credit. “We were very steady.”
The side converted par for all but two holes - the fifth, where they posted a birdie, and the thirteenth, where they posted a bogey.

Traci Petrillo (Penfield CC) and Stu Harris (Oak Hill CC), the reigning champions, finished tied for third with a one-over performance, joined by the side of Carina (Beaver Meadows GC) and John Watkins (Beaver Meadows GC).
Net winners for the senior division were Mike Farina (Ballston Spa CC) and Marylee Pollard (Ballston Spa CC), who finished at net five-under 72 (67 gross) to secure their third net victory in this event.

Despite consistent rain for the first three holes, then again to delay the playoff, it was not that much of a factor in their play today.
“The greens were very consistent and very nice,” Lisa said. “It was a lot of fun. It’s a really nice course.”
“We hit a lot of greens,” Kevin said. “[Lisa] drove the ball well into the fairways.”
This victory marks the second time Kevin and Lisa have won a Mixed Team title, doing so back in 2017.

We’d like to recognize our partner regional associations for the exceptional work they do in promoting the game of golf.

Since its founding in 2003, the NYSGA Foundation has impacted thousands of people through golf related programs such as scholarships, junior golf programs, supporting local first tee chapters, free USGA GHIN Handicaps for juniors, recognizing the top contributors through the NYSGA Hall of Fame, and much more. The Foundation’s goal is to increase the amount raised in order to give out more awards through the NYSGA Foundation Membership Program.
FOUNDED IN 2021
The money raised via the NYSGA Foundation Membership Program directly funds college scholarships for NYSGA member club employees. Supporters of the fund come from participating clubs and individual members across the state. Donations of $100 or more will be recognized on the NYSGA website, “Supporters of the Fund”.
