TheNewYorkSkiEducationalFoundation(NYSEF)offerscompetitiveprogramsforavariety of age,abilityandcommitmentlevels.ProgramsarebasedoutofeachBelleayre,Goreand WhitefaceMountainsandencompassanappropriatemixoffree-skiingandcompetition training.Ourcoachingstaffhelpstoinstillapassionandloveforskiingorridingwiththeir athletestomakeskiingorridingalife-longandenjoyableactivity.

BelleayreMountainisconveniently locatedapproximatelytwo-anda-halfhoursfromthegreaterNew YorkCityareaintheCatskill Mountains.Belleayrehas51trails and8chairlifts. AtBelleayre,NYSEF isbasedinthelowerlevelofthe LonghouseLodge.
HostoftheWinterOlympics, Whitefaceoffersthelargest verticaldropintheEastata3,430' with86TrailsWith283Skiable Acresincluding4FISHomologated Trails.AtWhiteface,thetraining center(built-in2006)islocatedat thebaseofthemountainjust adjacenttothebaselodge.

WhitefaceFreeski&Snowboardathletesshouldbegearedupandreadytogoat8:15am infrontoftheUihleinTrainingCenter(logbuildinguphillofthemainlodge).Theyare encouragedtobringapackwithsnacks,aquicklunch,andawaterbottleaswellas extralayersofclothing,neckgaiter,balaclava,glovesand/ormitts.Packscanbesafely storedinthelodgeincubbiesoronhooksoutside.Ourgroupsoftenstopmid-morning inoneofthelodgesforawarm-upandquickbreaksoit’sgoodtohaveafewdollarsfor ahotchocolate.

Tuning&Waxing
Therearemanydifferentlevelsofcareforequipmentbasedonwhat disciplineyouareinvolvedin.Athletesthatcompeteintheterrainpark (SlopestyleandRailjam)keeptheiredgesde-tuned,ordull,sothey don’tcatcheasilyonrailsorboxes.CrossandFreerideathletesneeda sharpedgetomakepreciseturnsonhardsnowsurfaces.Alldisciplines, however,benefitfromwaxingtheirequipmentregularly,evendaily,to keepthebaseshydratedandfast.Talktoyourcoachtofindoutthe properlevelofcarerequiredforyourchosendiscipline.
Equipment
Itisimportantthatyourathletes’gearhasbeenfittedproperlyandcheckedforsafety(ski bindingcheck)eachseason.Improperlyfittedoradjustedequipmentcanleadtoinjury.Our coacheswillevaluateanddocumenteachathlete’sequipmentandmakesuggestionsbased onwhattheyfind.Ifyouareaskedtoupdate,tune,orupgradegearpleaseunderstandit’s aboutkeepingathletessafe.Helmetsarerequiredforallparticipantsandmustfitaccordingto manufacturerrecommendations.Ifpurchasinganewhelmet,becertainitismadespecifically forsnowsports–noskateormotorsportshelmetsareallowed.Thoughmotorsportsandother sportshelmetsmaybesafefortheirintendedpurposetheymaynotbeforuseonsnow.Check withyourcoachifyouareunsure
