ALPINESKIRACING DISCIPLINES

SLALOM(SL)

As the shortest discipline of alpine, with the tightest turns, slalom is considered a "tech" event becauseitrequirestechnicalskiingandathleticabilitytoexcel Theeventwinnerhasthebest combined time over two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run Gates, or turning poles, are red/blue poles that the skier must navigate around A course should contain open gatesandverticalcombinationsofgates

GIANTSLALOM(GS)

Also considered a "tech" event, giant slalom involves racing between gates spaced slightly further apart than in slalom, with more speed and wider turns. The event winner has the best combined time over two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run Gates are traditionalred/bluewithflagsorpanels
