년 월말 러시아 비자를 발급받아 블라디보스톡 항 공기에탑승했다 김포공항을이륙한비행기는약 시간만 에 블라디보스톡 공항에 착륙했는데 기차로 서울에서 부산 가는 것보다 빠른 것이니 가깝고도 먼 나라는 일본만이 아 니구나 하는 생각이 들었다 입국 심사를 마치고 공항 검색 대를 빠져나오니 길을 안내해 줄 통역사가 우리 일행을 태 울 차량과 함께 기다리고 있었다 혹한의 매서운 바람에 입 이얼어붙은것인지아니면본격적인임무가시작됐다는부 담감때문인지우리일행은블라디보스톡까지약 거 리를 침묵 속에서 질주했다 저녁 무렵에야 블라디보스톡 시내에 도착할 수 있었다 우리가 머물 호텔‘블라디보스 톡’에 가자마자 곧바로 욕실로 들어갔다 거짓말 조금 보태 서 온몸이 동태처럼 꽁꽁 언 것만 같아 따듯한 물이 그리웠 기 때문이었다 그러나 내 간절한 기대는 이내 무너지고 말 았다 이호텔에는더운물이안나온다는것이다 처음에는 어리둥절했지만추위가몸에밴사람들이니그럴수있겠다 는 생각이 들었다 칭기스칸과 히틀러 모두 러시아의 얼음 장벽에 무너졌지만 나는 그렇게 호락호락 백기를 들 수 없 다는 생각으로 이를 악다문 채 미리 챙겨 온 두툼한 옷들을 겹겹이 껴 입고는 잠을 청했다 고진감래라고 했다 고생한 만큼좋은결과를얻을것이라믿었다 1999

글 구원모 사장, 유니젠 러시아 년 월 화창한 가을날 서울 방이동‘유니베라 한국’ 에서 근무하고 있을 때였다 이병훈 사장님께서 찾으셔서 집무실로 들어갔더니 한 낯선 사람이 앉아 있었다 건장한 체구에짧은머리를한그의눈빛은날카로우면서도매서웠 다 그래서인지 나도 모르게 그의 시선을 피하게 되었는데 이를본사장님께서는웃으시며그를소개하셨다

어떤 결정을 내리시기 전에 주위 사람들의 다양한 의견을 경청하고여러측면과가능성을고려한뒤합리적으로판단 하시는 사장님이셨다 그래서 더욱 이번 임무가 중요하고 반드시 성공적으로 수행해야겠다는 생각이 들었다 그러던 중 순간 겨울에는 영하 도까지 내려가는 혹한의 러시아 에서 농작물을 생산할 수 있는 농지가 있을까 하는 의문이 들었다 집무실에서나오자마자책상위에세계지도를펼쳐 “국제농업개발원 원장님입니다 러시아 농지개척에 많은 놓고는 하루 종일 러시아 극동 연해주가 어디에 있고 주로 도움을 주실 분입니다 앞으로 서로 협조하며 진행해야 될 무엇을하며어떤사람들이살고있는곳인가살펴봤다 일이많을겁니다 ” 다음날 국제농업개발원을 찾아갔다 사무실 입구부터 연해 원장님과 악수를 나눈 뒤 명함을 교환했다 사장님께서 말 주 전도가 곳곳에 다른 모양으로 붙어있었다 그리고 온통 씀을이어나가셨다 러시아어로된문서들이책상위에널려있었는데영어도능 숙하게 구사할 줄 모르는 나에겐 다소 긴장되는 분위기가 “선친께서도 생전에 관심이 많으셨습니다 농산물에 대한 아닐 수 없었다 개발원 관계자들로부터 러시아 극동 연해 수요가 꾸준하게 증가하고 장래에 남북관계가 우호적으로 주 지역에 대한 상세한 얘기를 들을 수 있었다 벼와 콩을 개선된다고할때러시아의극동연해주는매력적이고도전 재배했던이지역의농장들이러시아내부정치적상황으로 해볼 만한 가치가 있습니다 여기 계신 원장님께서는 이 지 현재는방치되어있기때문에유리한조건으로확보가능하 역에 대한 많은 정보를 가지고 계십니다 마침 우리에게 적 다는 것이다 이를 우리의 자본과 북한의 노동력을 활용하 합한 농업용 토지가 있다고 하시니 신중하게 검토한 뒤 이 면 세계 유일의 경제모델을 창출할 수 있으며 향후 남북통 농지를확보하는데전력을다해주시기바랍니다 ” 일을 대비하여 가장 적합한 사업이 될 것이라는 내용이었 1999

러시아 문화체험이라는 목적을 두고 서울여자대학교에서 의 높은 경쟁률을 뚫고 선발된 우리 일행은 블라디보스 톡 주립 경제서비스대학에서 주간의 일정을 마치고 유비 콤 농장에서 나머지 일주일을 보내게되었다 농장에서의 우리 임무는 황금이라는 약초를 지키는 것이었다 노란 뿌 리 때문에 황금이라고 불려지는 이 약초는 년이라는 인고 의세월이흘러야효능과상품으로써가치가있다고한다
황금을 돌보는 일 이외에도 잊지 못할 것들을 꼽으라면 열 손가락이 모자를 정도다 그 중에서도 우릴 공포의 도가니 로 몰아넣었던 초록색 몸통의 파리는 가끔씩 우리 주위를 윙윙거리며 맴돌다 흡혈귀처럼 우리 미녀들을 향해 기습 공격을 감행하곤 했다 밭일을 끝내고 더위를 식히기 위해 앞다퉈 달려갔던 농장 앞으로 흐르는 맑고 시원한 냇물 또 한 잊지 못할 풍경이다 이러한 천혜의 자연 경관들은 우 리나라의 비무장지대처럼 러시아와 중국 그리고 북한이 그러고 보면 이 곳에서 일하는 모든 이들은 연금술사일지 국경을맞대고있는지정학적특수성때문에가능했다 도 모른다 화려했던 과거의 영화를 재현하려는 러시아에 게 황금이라는 약초를 가꾸는 일은 진짜 황금을 만들어 내 일주일간의 모든 체류 일정이 끝나간다고 생각하니 왠지 는 것만큼이나 가치 있는 일이기 때문이다 유비콤 직원들 모를 아쉬움과 서운함이 남는다 처음 몽골텐트가 숙소라 이 이 농장에서 또 다른 문화를 만들어 내는 모습 속에서 는 것을 알았을 때 적잖이 당황했지만 그런 걱정과 우려와 러시아의희망을엿볼수있었다 는 달리 우리들은 하루가 다르게 그런 생활에 빠르게 적응 해 나갔다 그런모습을보며경험은사람이라는나무를 단 황금을 가꾸고 돌보는 일은 자식을 대하는 부모님의 그것 단하고 튼튼하게 자라게 하는 자양분이라는 것을 새삼 깨 과 다를 바 없었다 지금까지 적지 않은 시련들 속에서 때 달았다 집으로 돌아가는 우리 모두 마음의 키는 어느 새 론 넓은 가슴으로 안아주시고 때론 든든한 버팀목으로 힘 한 뼘씩 더 자라고 있었다 이 농장에서 보낸 일주일을 난 이 되어 주셨던 부모님을 생각하니 코끝이 찡해지면서 가 평생 잊지 못할 것 같다 하나 둘 쌓여가는 추억들 속에서 슴 한 구석이 아려왔다 하루 이틀 지나면서 그런 깨달음 행복을맛봤기때문이다 나는물론우리모두행복했다 은 내 마음속에서 욕심과 집착 그리고 아픔이라는 티끌을 걷어내고 있었다 땅을 다독이는 일은 사람을 키우고 상처 받은마음들을치유해주는능력이있는가보다 5:1

Converted from a limestone quarry, the beautiful Butchart Gardens is home to a wide variety of flowers and trees from all over the world, arranged by country and theme. Brightly blooming flowers of all colors and shapes adorned the grounds, so that one could easily imagine the scenery of heaven looking something like this. It struck me that ECONET, like the Butchart Gardens, could also benefit from arranging its medicinal plants to be viewed at a single glance.
After unpacking my bags at the hotel, I took a turn around the docks. Strolling along the streets lined with centuries-old buildings, I gazed at the white boats as they floated on blue waves flecked with gold and immersed myself in the novel pleasure of walking amid exotic scenes.
