Welcome to the Trinity Term This is a new experience for us all and we’re delighted to be sharing the remote term with you. We hope you’ll find the following overview of our learning plans helpful and reassuring. While every family will approach this in their own way, we hope this guidance will help you feel prepared to support your child. Some parents may wish to construct a structured day with a fixed timetable, whilst others may want to be more flexible with the times set aside for the school curriculum. We hope this will promote the wellbeing of your family whilst ensuring your child maintains their academic standards. #BroomwoodAtHome combines lessons across all subjects, online class-time, extracurricular activities (sport, art, music), online teacher support and weekly assemblies and awards. Community engagement at this time is vital and the school week will include plenty of time for children to share their experiences with their teachers and each other. More detailed information is available in our virtual Learning Hub in the secure area of the website, but I hope you find this overview helpful. We will learn and adapt as we settle into term and see what does and doesn’t work for us all. My staff and I welcome constructive feedback on what we can all do to make this as positive an experience as possible for the children. Carole Jenkinson Headmistress

Technology #BroomwoodAtHome Virtual Learning Hub - Parental Overview and Recorded Lessons We have created a page in the secure area of our website which is dedicated to virtual-learning. Parents will have access to an overview of the provision by year group along with advice on how to support your child - particularly in maths and English and some recorded lessons. We will also use the hub to upload recorded assemblies and some co-curricular lessons.

SeeSaw - Classwork We will be using the platform SeeSaw, an education app and website that allows teachers to set work online and provide feedback on work that children have uploaded. Each pupil has their own personal login and can access SeeSaw either via the website or by downloading the app on to a device at home. Pupils will receive their login details on the first day of term. For pupils who have not yet used SeeSaw at school, there will be a how-to guide in the learning hub.

Zoom - Class and Teacher interaction Each child will have a regular form time with their class teacher and their classmates via Zoom. Preps will log on each afternoon for story time and Classes 1-3 will have interactive form time sessions twice a week. From Week 2 there will also be daily half-hour drop-in sessions for children in Classes 1-3 from TuesdayFriday to discuss any issues or questions regarding work. An updated code of conduct covering the use of video calls can be seen on the website.

The School Week We have planned the structure of lessons over each week according to the needs of different age groups and full details for each year group are available in the Learning Hub. The table below gives an illustration of what we are planning. We will keep a close eye on how this works in Weeks 1 & 2 and will make changes if neccessary. Constructive feedback will be extremely helpful. NB. On the first day of term, all classes will have Formtime as follows: 9am Classes 1-3, 2.30, Preps.

Please compete these during the day to a timetable that works best for you and your child. We recommend that academic work should be done when children are fresh and alert - generally in the mornings. Please allow time between lessons for snacks and play. Videos will be created and uploaded from Week 2. More information about specific tasks for Week 1 will be given via SeeSaw/Learning Hub

Our aim during this period of school remote learning is to ensure that pupils continue to develop their skills and maintain a love of learning even though they cannot be in school. We want to ensure that the work set is of a high standard and that pupils continue to develop their abilities whilst they’re at home.

Pupils need a broad and balanced learning experience, particularly while they work remotely. For the first three days of term, pupils will be set suggested activities they can do at home, ranging from Music, PE to Art/DT.

We are keen to capture and share this new world of learning and to keep us all connected.

Each year group will have a specific overview for their year covering the topics, objectives and themes for the term which can be viewed on the Learning Hub on the website. From Week 2 recorded teaching elements and instructions will sometimes be included in the SeeSaw lessons. We have devised the work programmes so that work is differentiated for pupils and allows them to master skills in the way they would during normal lessons. The Learning Hub on the website includes a series of everyday activities across different subjects for Parents to do with their children to reinforce maths and English skills should they want to. It will also include a wide range of information sites to give parents further support. The academic team is here to help. Please contact them if you have questions. • Louisa McCafferty, Deputy Head, Academic • Lara Pigott, Senior Mistress, Lower School • Beth Jack, Asst Director of Studies, Lower School

From Week 2, pupils will be able to access video lessons from the Learning Hub covering co-curricular lessons e.g. art, music, PE/Sport. We will try to make these as engaging and fun for pupils as possible and will also be looking to share some of the work done by pupils in our weekly interactive class sessions and on our school story channels if appropriate. As the term progresses, we will investigate the possibility of introducing some interactive class elements to co-curricular activities.

We would love to see your pictures and stories of home learning. Please send these to your class teacher and/or our media department. Please remember to tag us on any social media posts using #BroomwoodAtHome and #NWSVirtual. We have many ideas on how to deliver and share our school stories in the coming weeks and look forward to sharing these with you.

Pastoral Care Whilst children may not be in a classroom with their teacher, our programme ensures daily visual and verbal contact, either through form time or regular drop-in sessions (Classes 1-3) Form time will also allow pupils to catch up with their class mates. Recorded weekly assemblies, will be uploaded on Friday mornings and will allow us to award pupils for the efforts and progress they have made in certain areas. Class Teachers will be reviewing their pupils’ work on a daily basis and outside form time and drop-ins, will be available for parents to contact by email or telephone (during normal school hours). Should you have any concerns about your child, please contact your class teacher in the first instance. The heads of year and other senior staff - including Jo Townsend, Deputy Head, Pastoral, remain available to discuss any other concerns.

Q&A Does the school day have to start at 8.30? No - how you structure your day will be up to each family. There will be certain times when a child should log-in or check-in with the class or teacher, but other than that, it is up to each family to decide how to break down the school day and cover the lessons outlined above. Does my child have to wear uniform? Not unless they want to! (If they do - please send us pictures!) Will I have progress reports? We will maintain our records as normal and you are always able to discuss your child’s progress with your class teacher. How much am I expected to help / supervise? The work set will be age appropriate and should be self-explanatory. Some children will need more/less help or supervision. If you are concerned, please speak to your class teacher.

In the event of illness, should we notify the school? Yes. Please inform the school of any illness via email so that we can update our records. This will also enable us to modify lessons and manage expectations. I have a question or concern about my child’s work - who should I contact? Your class teacher is always your first point of contact and will be contactable via email. If your child has specific questions about work, please use the drop-in sessions to get help. The Heads of Year and SLT are also available for any other queries. What about music lessons? Individual music teachers will be making separate arrangements. My child requires additional support, how will this be delivered? Learning support will continue. We will contact parents individually to agree how and when this will take place.

Children of Key Workers We are providing on-site supervision for children of key workers. This will take pace at the Upper School. Children will be expected to follow the same home-learning structure but will have the supervision of a teacher during their time at school.

Contact All our teachers are on hand to offer support and guidance while we work remotely. Parents can contact them via email but should you wish to have a more in depth conversation a phone call can be arranged. Heads of Year and other senior staff can also be contacted if you have any other concerns.
