Broomwood is a school shaped by ambition, warmth and community.
From the age of three to 13, our children are known as individuals –encouraged to think deeply, aim high and grow in confidence. Academic standards are strong, but achievement is never pursued at the expense of character. We believe that children thrive when they feel secure, inspired and understood.
Our distinctive diamond structure begins with a co-educational PrePrep before pupils move into singlesex Prep schools at age seven. This carefully considered journey allows
children to develop in an environment that suits each stage of childhood, while continuing to share experiences through co-curricular learning and collaboration.
Broomwood is academically ambitious, modern in outlook and rooted in enduring values. Above all, it is a community – one in which children are supported to discover who they are and what they are capable of becoming.
Michael Hodge Principal

Broomwood is a leading independent preparatory school in south-west London, set across four closely connected sites. Housed within distinctive buildings, each site has been carefully adapted to meet the needs of the age group it serves, combining architectural character with modern educational facilities. Since its founding in 1984, the school has grown in both scale and ambition, developing specialist spaces including science laboratories, art studios, a cookery school, DT suites, music rooms and an outdoor amphitheatre – facilities that reflect the breadth of our curriculum and the richness of school life.
Our outdoor space is equally considered. Each site offers age-appropriate play environment, astroturf pitches and areas designed for both energetic sport and imaginative exploration. Outdoor learning is embedded in daily school life, enriching academic study while supporting physical and emotional development.
Recognised through multiple national and London-wide awards, Broomwood continues to set the standard for a modern preparatory education – balancing heritage with innovation, and tradition with forward-thinking ambition.
Our values are woven into the fabric of everyday life. They are seen in the way older pupils mentor younger ones, in the encouragement given to try again after a setback, and in the quiet expectation that kindness matters. They shape our teaching, our relationships and the atmosphere visitors so often remark upon. We aim not simply to educate children, but to help them grow into thoughtful, capable, confident and principled young people.

Broomwood Pre-Prep is filled with energy, imagination and purpose. Boys and girls learn together in an environment that balances structure with freedom – where strong academic foundations are laid through curiosity and joy.
From the very first day, our focus is on helping each child feel secure, confident and excited about school.
Our Pre-School classrooms are bright and welcoming, with free-flow access to outdoor spaces where a maze, climbing frame and mud kitchen encourage exploration, imaginative play and growing independence. Specialist teachers introduce French, music, art and sport from the outset, broadening children’s experiences beyond the core curriculum.
Learning follows the EYFS framework, enriched by carefully planned opportunities that stretch and challenge. Communication, resilience and confidence are developed gently but deliberately, supported by high staff-to-pupil ratios and close pastoral care.
There is laughter here – but there is purpose too.
As children move through Reception and Key Stage 1, their confidence grows alongside their academic capability. Literacy and numeracy are strengthened through creative, thematic learning that connects subjects and sparks curiosity.
Assemblies, performances and wholeschool events build assurance and belonging. Specialist teaching expands, and expectations rise in a way that feels encouraging rather than overwhelming. As pupils reach the top of PrePrep, they begin to take on their first positions of responsibility, such as serving as House Captains or lunchtime monitors. This helps them to begin learning what it means to lead with kindness and integrity.
By the end of Year 2, pupils are independent, articulate and ready for the next stage of their journey.

The transition into our single-sex Prep sites is seamless and offer an environment that allow teaching and pastoral care to be carefully attuned to how boys and girls develop in these crucial formative years.
While lessons are delivered in small singlesex classes, the schools remain deeply connected. Pupils come together regularly for co-educational lessons and activities, from themed days, such as Modern European Languages to orchestras, curriculum enrichment days, debating workshops and Mental Health Awareness Week initiatives. Friendships formed in the Pre-Prep continue to flourish.
The school day extends to 5.20pm, allowing time for a rich programme of enrichment and co-curricular activity within the structure of the week. Sport, music, drama, clubs and academic extension are woven into the timetable, ensuring that exploration and challenge sit alongside classroom learning. Coeducational days, visiting speakers and residential trips extend learning beyond the classroom. Homework is completed on site, supported by teaching staff, fostering strong study habits while preserving evenings for family time.

Pupils continue to benefit from specialist teaching across a wide range of subjects while retaining the security of strong pastoral oversight through a class-based model. These two years are a time to explore widely – to try new activities, discover interests and develop genuine curiosity.
A carefully structured curriculum ensures breadth and challenge while guiding pupils confidently towards the Middle and Senior phases. Through collaborative co-educational learning experiences and shared activities, pupils strengthen their independence, curiosity and confidence as learners.

Pupils begin to refine the interests and talents discovered in earlier years. Specialist teaching expands across the whole curriculum, providing greater academic stretch while allowing pupils to develop depth in subjects they particularly enjoy.
Expectations increase as pupils prepare thoughtfully for senior school assessments, supported by a balanced approach that values character development, leadership opportunities and collaborative learning. Coeducational workshops and trips continue to foster empathy, teamwork and social confidence as pupils grow in maturity and independence.
This pivotal stage is where confidence, independence and identity strengthen noticeably. Alongside a broad and rigorous curriculum, pupils participate in our Future Ready Curriculum, including a two year programme developing life, learning and character skills.
This helps to progress critical thinking, resilience, and practical abilities for a changing world. Pupils approach senior school academically prepared, socially confident and increasingly independent.
Beyond the classroom, Broomwood offers a rich and varied co-curricular programme, designed to inspire curiosity, support potential, and build confidence across every stage of a child’s journey.
Sport is inclusive, ambitious and varied. Core offerings include football, rugby, cricket, hockey and netball, supported by athletics, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, basketball, cross-country and tennis. We offer both competitive squads and opportunities for broader participation, with fixtures, tournaments and festivals embedded in the school calendar. Teamwork, discipline and resilience are developed alongside physical skill.
Creative Arts flourish across the school. Pupils take part in drama productions ranging from early Pre-Prep performances to full-scale musicals in Prep, with backstage roles such as lighting and stage management allowing every child to contribute.
Music is equally vibrant, with orchestras, jazz bands, choirs and small ensembles; many pupils learn one or more instruments, with performances woven into school life.
Art, DT and cookery provide further outlets for imagination and technical skill, supported by specialist facilities and teaching.
Clubs are available to all year groups from Reception upwards and change termly.

We understand the rhythms of modern family life and structure the school day to balance learning, enrichment and family time. In the Pre-Prep, gates open at 8.15am, with early drop-off available from 7.30am and wrap-around care for families who need additional flexibility. Pre-School children may stay until 5.45pm, while Reception to Year 2 pupils can remain until 6pm.
From Year 3, the extended school day runs from 8am to 5.20pm, giving pupils time to complete homework onsite and take part in a wide range of enrichment activities, with optional clubs available until 6.20pm. This structure supports independence, curiosity and cocurricular exploration, while allowing families to enjoy calmer evenings together.
Freshly prepared lunches, snacks and afternoon tea are provided daily, reflecting our belief that food, like learning, is an important part of school community.

Broomwood pupils move on to a wide range of senior schools across London and beyond – co-educational and single-sex, day and boarding. Each year, pupils are awarded scholarships across academic, artistic, musical and sporting disciplines. Just as importantly, they leave with a strong sense of who they are.
Our role at Broomwood is to help each child find the path that suits them – and step onto it with confidence. The successes of our pupils and the progress they make is something we are incredibly proud of.

We have received more than 155 scholarships since 2021.
Our staff are united by a shared purpose and supported by ongoing professional development. Our leadership team is highly collaborative, ensuring consistency, innovation and responsiveness across all sites. Teachers are empowered to bring energy, expertise and creativity to the classroom, contributing to an inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Broomwood is part of Dukes Education, a family of leading schools and education providers. This partnership strengthens governance, professional development and strategic vision, while preserving the distinctive character of our school within the community.
Families also benefit from the option of a seamless progression to senior school within the group, providing continuity, confidence and long-term educational planning.
Broomwood is proudly non-selective, welcoming families who share our values and ethos. Registration is open from birth, and we encourage early registration, particularly for our youngest year groups.
Admissions to Pre-School and Reception are nonselective, with places offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Offers are made up to two years in advance of entry, and we aim to maintain a balanced intake of girls and boys. Priority is given to siblings, alumni families and children from other Dukes nurseries and schools, with remaining places allocated by date of registration.
For occasional places in other year groups, children are invited to attend a taster morning/day or ageappropriate informal assessment session. This allows us to ensure that each child will feel confident and able to thrive within their cohort.
Occasional places do arise across the school, and families are encouraged to visit. We offer regular open events as well as bespoke individual tours, providing the opportunity to meet members of the leadership team and experience the school in action.
