I begin this letter with an earnest “thank you” to each and every one of you, our valued community of alumni, donors, volunteers, university administration, faculty and staff. This past year has been one of great progress, and our Ranger community has played a major role in the continued success of Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Northwestern has undergone several physical improvements due to the generosity of donors. The auditorium in Herod Hall, now known as the Fellers Family Auditorium, boasts new seating, flooring, lighting and sound technology, and a house curtain. In addition, a baby grand piano has been added to Northwestern’s center for performing arts. The faculty and students of the Reichenberger Department of Fine Arts will continue to deliver their best in an updated, comfortable space.
Herod Hall itself has a fresh interior look with new flooring and paint, and remodeling of restrooms.
Donors also supported the Northwestern rodeo program with the addition of 20 stalls/runs and practice arena lighting at the Campbell Rodeo Complex. This investment now provides our rodeo student-athletes with 40 total stall/runs and the opportunity to practice at night.
In our academic programs, the investment through scholarships continues to make a difference in the affordability of a Northwestern degree. Nearly 300 graduates, of which 228 were undergraduates, walked across the commencement stage at Ranger Field this past May. Of the undergraduates, 59 percent started their careers or post-graduate work with zero student debt. Your investment in scholarships was a strong part of this achievement.
In the face of an unpredictable stock market, the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association
closed the fiscal year with an 11.07 percent return on investment. It also had one of its strongest years in fundraising.
Yet, the need for additional financial support is crucial for Northwestern to continue to offer an excellent and affordable education. Many of you, if not all, would agree education is our most critical infrastructure of our nation and the world. Please join me and consider what level of contribution you can invest in Northwestern this coming year. Empowering our students with knowledge and skills is an investment with immeasurable dividends.
Ride, Rangers, Ride,

Dr. Randy Smith Chair, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association Class of 1975

This summer marks 20 years since my family and I moved back to Alva and I began my second career here at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity. During my job interview in 2005, Troy Smith, a Foundation Board member, asked how long I would stay. I remember saying I did not have any other plans beyond this job so I might stay 10 years. I feel I have honored my commitment to him.
In this job I am mostly a facilitator and cheerleader. The real impact comes from the many donors who have pledged and delivered a portion their life’s financial accumulation. They have entrusted these treasures with Northwestern’s faculty and staff who have delivered on the mutually-shared vision. I am only one of the people responsible for bringing the two like-minded parties together. It is an enviable and rewarding position.
I have seen many visible changes at Northwestern in these last two decades, including: 1) improvement of our athletic facilities; 2) the many campus enhancements; 3) the building on the Woodward Campus; 4) the incredible impact of the envied endowed chair program; 5) the visible growth of Northwestern’s Ranger pride; and 6) the renovation of the Fellers Auditorium and Herod Hall.

Many young people - including my three daughters - have passed through this university and had their lives positively transformed. As donors/investors, knowing we had an impact on their collegiate successes gives me tremendous satisfaction as I hope it does for you.
One of the most recent and impactful accomplishments that we all have been working toward has been the reduction of student debt at Northwestern. Just this May, 59 percent of our graduates left Northwestern Oklahoma State University and entered the job market without any federal student debt. Our strategic plan, created in the summer of 2019, had a goal of ascending from 50 to 52 percent. It remained around 50 percent for a long time. This vision has become reality by the combined efforts of donors, faculty, staff and students. One of our next goals is to keep this trend moving in this direction.
I have been here long enough to see how small, incremental changes over time make a huge impact. The babies who were born when I started this job will graduate in a couple of years with their diplomas. That amount of change is a challenge for me to wrap my head around. The time went by so fast.
Thank you for your continued, persistent and generous investment in our collective vision. Thank you for making it possible for so many young people to pursue and realize their dreams.
Ride, Rangers, Ride!

Allen E. “Skeeter” Bird CEO, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association Class of 1985
It is a great day to be a Ranger! The start of school has been incredible. With the rain and cooler weather, it definitely feels like the start of the fall semester here at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. We are so proud to share that the university’s enrollment is up once again. This makes four consecutive years. Although Northwestern did have a small increase in tuition this year, we remain one of the lowest in cost across the state. One example of this is data showing that nearly 60 percent of our students are graduating with zero debt. This is something of which we can all be proud!
We are blessed to see another year of support from the legislature toward deferred maintenance projects. With this investment, Northwestern will focus on many areas including replacing windows in two buildings, replacing camera systems across all our campuses, restroom renovations, and dorm projects in Coronado Hall and Ament Hall.
I hope you have a chance to return to campus to see updated facilities, interact with our wonderful students, and continue to play an important part of the overall success of our university. Your support is so important to our Ranger Family and is much appreciated.
Ride, Rangers, Ride,

Dr. Bo Hannaford President
Northwestern Oklahoma State University Class of 1992

One morning, Brian Clay woke up with a strange bump on his head. As a middle school wrestler, he didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just a minor injury from the mat. What seemed insignificant would soon change his life forever.
Over the next few weeks, the bump grew noticeably larger. As a concerned 8th grader,

he told his mother and they decided it was time to see a doctor. An MRI revealed something more serious than originally expected. The scan showed a small hole in his skull caused by a tumor. Clay, from Stilwell, Okla., was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), a rare disease affecting only one to two in every 100,000 people.
The diagnosis brought fear and uncertainty, but Clay wasn’t alone. Surrounded by a strong support system of family, friends and local church members, he found strength in their encouragement.
“My family and friends were my daily inspiration and motivation to keep fighting,” Clay said.
For a year, Clay underwent weekly chemotherapy treatments. It wasn’t the high school experience he imagined, but the challenge would shape his future in an unexpected way. Inspired by the care and compassion of the nurses at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., he discovered a new calling.
“I had amazing nurses during my time at St. Jude. The impact they had on me encouraged me to go into the nursing field,” Clay said.
Now as a sophomore at Northwestern, Clay is pursuing a degree in nursing and was recently accepted into the Charles Morton Share Trust Division of Nursing Program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Clay began his first nursing classes in June 2025 and is eagerly taking his first steps toward making a difference in others’ lives.
Balancing schoolwork and life challenges hasn’t always been easy, but he reminds himself of something his father used to tell him to help approach each day with focus and intention.
“He would say ‘how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time,’” Clay shared. “This saying really stuck with me and is the reason I know that small steps can achieve amazing accomplishments. That helps me stay focused on the task at hand.”
by Tara Owen
He’s especially excited to learn not just the technical side of nursing, but how to connect with patients from all walks of life.
“Being able to sympathize with patients is one of the best qualities I have, and I think it will help me in my future career,” Clay said.
As Northwestern’s nursing program, is ranked 18th among 754 schools in the central U.S. by NurseJournal.org, it was a natural fit for Clay. He has found encouragement from Drs. Jason Wickham, Venkata Moorthy, and Piper Robida, faculty members of Northwestern’s Department of Natural Science. He looks forward to continuing to build meaningful and impactful relationships with his instructors.
With small class sizes and one-on-one connections with professors, Clay has found an environment where he can thrive. As he embarks on this new chapter, he carries with him the strength and resilience shaped by his past along with a passion to serve others in their hardest moments.
“I’m excited for this journey.”

From a young age, Edna Garcia was encouraged by her parents to strive for a life that was better than their own, instilling in her the importance of higher education.
“I always knew I would attend college; my parents were both from Mexico and they always told me they moved to the United States to give me a better life,” Garcia said.
Both of Garcia’s parents are from Mexico. Once married, they moved to the United States

seeking new opportunities and the pursuit of a better future. They were determined to build a foundation that would provide their children with great opportunities.
Garcia is a junior pursuing a degree in psychology with plans to graduate in May 2026. Throughout her academic journey, she has been determined to make her college experience the most that she could. As a freshman, she got involved on campus. She assisted with events the Student Government Association (SGA) hosted.
“SGA is really what helped me get involved at first,” Garcia said. “Erika Hernandez and Austin Rankin were two older students who were amazing leaders, and they really inspired me to become a leader on campus.”
Garcia found her passion for serving others and began to use it throughout her time as a Ranger. She then was accepted as a Northwestern Scholar Ambassador (NSA). Through this, she has been able to gain connections.
“NSA encouraged me to start serving others and get out of my comfort zone,” Garcia said.
Garcia was the student director of Camp Ranger 2024, a summer camp for incoming freshmen. She took this as an opportunity to grow and serve others.
“I have seen so much growth in Edna,” NSA Advisor, Ethan Sacket said. “She is so eager and open to serve others to the best of her abilities, and she has a heart for people.”
Taking on the position of student director was a big step for Garcia and was something she had never done before. Being the camp director, she was also in charge of the counselors who would mentor the incoming freshman. The counselors consisted of other NSA members and student leaders at Northwestern.
“Edna was intentional about the team she was working alongside,” Sacket said. “I thought it was mature and wise of her to be so encouraging to the other students she was serving with.”
Garcia also served as a student worker for Northwestern Student Services office during the summer of 2024. She shared that she was able to learn and grow more than she’d ever imagined. She assisted Sacket during this time, and she
by Tara Owen
said that he had a huge impact on her success during her time at Northwestern.
“She has so much potential,” Sacket said. “When she leaves a place, people are better because she was there.”
She shared that she created a goal for herself to meet more of the Northwestern faculty. During the summer when the campus was slower, she would make a point to stop and go into offices to meet faculty members.
“I love being able to have intentional, fruitful conversations with others at Northwestern. It proves that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”
She believes this was one of the most beneficial goals she could have created because she was able to meet some of the best people who make Northwestern so special.
“I never thought that in coming to college I would grow so much as a person and as a leader. I have had amazing people who have poured into me.”

With every stride around the track, Jamaira Ross chases more than a finish line; she is running toward a future she’s been dreaming of since childhood.
Ross, a native of Atlanta, Ga., faced many challenges in the first nine years of her life. At the age of four, she lost her mother. She was then sent to live with a grandmother while her dad fought for custody. After a few months of the custody battle, Ross was able to live with her dad. At nine years old, she and her dad made their way to Dallas, Texas, to pursue a better life.

Ross endured challenges growing up in Texas.
“At one time we were homeless, living in our car while my dad was between jobs.”
While living in Dallas, Ross attended four different school districts from fourth grade to high school.
“Attending college was non-negotiable for me, I knew I needed a college education to complete my dream of becoming a veterinarian.”
Once she graduated from high school, Ross made her way to several colleges before finding her home at Northwestern.
“Although I grew up in two highly-populated cities, I knew I would excel in a small town.”
Success at Northwestern
Before attending Northwestern, Ross had proven her excellence on the track. She made it to nationals and became an all-American. Although she had great success at other colleges and universities, they never felt like home.
Ross is a standout member of the track and field team, competing in eight events across both indoor and outdoor seasons. Her indoor events include the 3K, 5K, mile, and distance medley relay, in which she holds the school record. Outdoors, she competes in the steeplechase, 1500m, 5K, and again in the distance medley relay. She holds school records in the 3K steeplechase, 5K, and distance medley relay. Her performance in the 3K steeplechase has earned her Great American Conference Honorable Mention recognition. In addition to track, Ross is a key contributor to the cross-country team, where she holds the school records in both the 5K and 6K races.
“Ross is an individual who takes both her schoolwork and running very seriously,” said Sterlin Broomfield, head men’s & women’s cross-country coach. “Her dedication is unmistakable; no one ever has to wonder if she’s giving her all.”
“Jamaira has been able to thrive as a student and an athlete while at Northwestern,” said Calleb Mosburg, vice president and dean of student affairs. “She is on the path to success.”
“Northwestern has always felt like home,” said Ross.
by Kennedy Dietz
“I really enjoy the smaller class size and the oneon-one availability with professors.”
Ross shared one of her favorite classes has been human physiology with Dr. Piper Robida, associate professor of biology.
“Dr. Robida is personable and approachable; she makes it easier to ask questions in class and gain a better knowledge of the subject,” said Ross.
After graduation in spring of ’26, Ross hopes to be accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. In the meantime, she plans to become a veterinary technician and shadow at a local veterinary office.
“While transferring from my last school, I faced what I thought was the end-all; but standing in the shadows and what became my saving grace was Northwestern Oklahoma State University.”
What started as a new chapter became something much more. With the support of her teammates, coaches, professors and deans, she found both success and a sense of belonging. Northwestern has shaped her in ways she had never expected.

The Donovan Reichenberger Fundraising Award was established in 2010 by the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association with the goal to recognize the private fundraising efforts of Northwestern Oklahoma State University faculty and staff. Named for Donovan Reichenberger and his example of generous fundraising service, the award honors an individual who seeks to further the mission and vision of the university, allowing continued prosperity during a critical time of diminishing state support.
Reichenberger served as a history professor at Northwestern from 1967 to 1993.
Dr. James Bell, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dr. Roxie James, associate professor of English; Chair, English, Foreign Language and Humanities Department, were both awarded with this honor in 2025.
Both Dr. Bell and Dr. James were instrumental in a presentation to Chad Moore concerning AI and the professional development that is needed with faculty, staff and students at Northwestern Oklahoma State Univeristy. Following the presentation, Mr. Moore established a lectureship called the Moore Family Technology Advancment. This endowment of $100,000 will grant opportunities for travel and conferences and allow our AI committee to present professional development training oppportunities for all Northwestern stakehlders.

In 2020, the leadership of Northwestern Oklahoma State University elected to make a strategic move to secure funding for a long-term student leadership emphasis at Northwestern with the creation of the Northwestern Leadership Trust. This endowment replaced the President’s Association (originally the Presidential Partners program).
The Northwestern Leadership Trust is an annual commitment to support leadership development for Northwestern students.
The institutional emphasis on freedom of thought, independent research, thorough analysis and critical thinking established Northwestern as a highly successful creator of young leaders who have grown to make a huge impact on our world.
The Northwestern Leadership Trust, like the programs before, will continue to support the President’s Leadership Class (PLC). PLC, led by the University president, is a highly competitive program for first-time freshmen that allows Northwestern to attract the best and brightest students from the region. As the endowment grows, additional programs will be supported.
“I believe the PLC class and these types of experiences are important in developing our leaders of tomorrow,” said Dr. Bo Hannaford, president. “We will work hard to provide every one of our students with lessons and experiences to develop each of them into leaders who will be able to problem solve, communicate, and work well with others as they lead.”

RISE (Rangers Investing in Students and Education) is an endowment pooled from thousands of smaller donations that allows Northwestern Oklahoma State University to help students wherever it sees the greatest need for student financial support. As of June 30, 2025, there is $1,758,536 in the RISE endowment.
With RISE, which began in 2006, there is not a pledge commitment or a minimum or maximum dollar amount. Every dollar matters and every dollar makes an impact for our students and their academic journeys. We only ask that everyone give at the level that makes them feel invested in our students and our university.

Kenny and Sue Fellers – Northwestern alumni and visionaries – made a lead investment to renovate the Herod Hall Auditorium, now renamed The Fellers Family Auditorium. This donation, combined with investments from, Bill and Billie Buckles, Cherrie Greco, Lee Mackey and the Charles Morton Share Trust, funded new auditorium seating, flooring, wall treatment, updated restrooms and other improvements.
These investments clearly made a transformational difference at Northwestern. Yet, our community investment must increase beyond these initial major updates. An endowment has been established, and we are seeking your support for the proper maintenance and improvements of this prominent, historical venue for the future.
You can help ensure the physical sustainability and prominence of The Fellers Family Auditorium through a charitable contribution to the Northwestern Performing Arts Operational Endowment.
In return, your gift at levels of $1,500, $1,000 or $500 will be honored with a small nameplate recognizing your investment in the performing arts of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. This nameplate will be affixed to one of the new seats in the renovated facility, honoring you and your investment. If you prefer, you may choose to honor a student, an alum, a loved one or your organization.

For more information on how you can play a vital role in Northwestern’s performing arts excellence, scan the QR code or go to https://ournorthwestern.org/ffanp.
