Your Success Matters! Business Battlefords Campus The one-year Business certificate program gives you a well-rounded business foundation for entry-level positions. You’ll learn core business concepts: accounting, finance, management, computers, marketing, human resources and more.
Office Administration Meadow Lake Campus
Community Engagement In 2019/20, North West College received a Federal grant to develop a program in support of Truth and Reconciliation and Youth in the community. The program included mental health first aid, facilitation skills, self reflection, Indigenous history, Truth and Reconciliation teachings and KIROS blanket certification. The 20 College students who took part in the program became certified KIROS blanket exercise facilitators who can now, in turn, support their local schools in bringing this powerful teaching to the children of our community.
Office Administration is a one-year certificate program that provides knowledge and skill development related to the business office environment. This program will have an emphasis on computer applications. Instruction will include projects that will give you a hands-on understanding of the demands and rewards of work in an office setting.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE SERVICES (ERS) North West College wants to see you succeed! The goal of the Education Resource Consultant is to find ways to accommodate learning for students, in spite of a limitation or barrier. This could include the use of specialized equipment or software to meet learning needs, finding a quiet place for exams, extra time or having an oral exam. The ERS Consultant can assist with completing applications for grants to help pay for special services or equipment, provide paperwork to your instructors regarding a learning accommodation and provide support in a wide variety of learning needs. The Continuing Care Assistant program allows you to make a difference in someone’s life everyday. This program is a one-year certificate program. If you enjoy caring for others, the Continuing Care Assistant program might be right for you. You’ll work directly with clients in long-term care, home care, assisted living, and even special needs classrooms. You will help them with mobility, personal care, assisting them to eat their meals and medication monitoring. Your clinical work experiences will give you a taste of different work settings and offer you a strong foundation as a health care support staff. Part-time programs are available by modules. HEALTH CARE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Psychiatric Nursing Battlefords Campus Psychiatric Nursing is a two-and-a-half-year diploma program delivered through blended learning via classes, labs and practicums. Experienced faculty will help you link theory with practice to help clients with mental illness, psychiatric disorders and developmental and/or cognitive difficulties function at their maximum potential. You will build a strong foundation in psychiatric nursing practice, including health assessment and interventions; mental health challenges; counselling models and therapeutic relationships; family and community partnerships; psychotropic pharmacology; and addictions and forensics.

Practical Nursing Battlefords Campus The two-year Practical Nursing diploma program trains you to be a vital part of today’s health care team. You will learn to provide compassionate, professional nursing care to a full range of patients from infants to seniors in acute care, longterm care and within the community. You will get hands-on clinical experience allowing you to grow into a confident nurse before entering the job market.

HEALTH CARE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Early Learning & Child Care Battlefords Campus Early Learning & Child Care gives you the knowledge and skills you need to work in a variety of child care settings. The program integrates current research on early childhood education into all of your courses. You’ll receive well-rounded training in child and adolescent development and guidance techniques. You will receive hands-on experience developing programming for creative arts, language, cognitive, social and emotional development. Contact the College for any questions you may have.
Youth Care Worker Certificate Battlefords Campus North West College is offering the one-year Youth Care Worker Certificate program as it has transfer credit towards social work and justice studies degrees. The Youth Care Worker program will help you develop the skills you need to build healthy relationships with children, youth and families. You will get practical experience planning and implementing activities geared towards youth. You will learn about addictions, the criminal justice system, behavioural intervention strategies, therapeutic activities, and Indigenous awareness, among other topics making you a valuable support staff for youth in your community.

Hands on Training Carpentry Meadow Lake Campus This certificate program will get you started in the largest trade in the construction industry. You’ll need good problem-solving skills, a solid work ethic and the ability to work on your own or as part of a team. When you graduate, you’ll be qualified for jobs with construction companies, general contractors and subcontractors, or in the maintenance departments of school boards, health districts, mining operations and government departments.
Electrician Meadow Lake Campus Electrician is an applied certificate program in a field that is in demand. You will acquire entry level skills training in electrical installations and perform maintenance duties according to industry standards. Trade time and academic credit may be available for graduates who find employment in the trade and register as apprentices. Get started in this high voltage career today.
Forest to Fork Meadow Lake Campus The Forest to Fork Program introduces students to three different post-secondary choices including the Integrated Resource Management Diploma, Retail Meat Specialist Applied Certificate and the Professional Cooking Certificate. Students will learn a wide range of topics that will introduce them to the ideas of food security, beginning with plant species in Saskatchewan and their uses, processing wild meat properly and, finally, to getting it on the table with proper cooking techniques.

Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician Meadow Lake Campus Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician is a one-year certificate program. It provides knowledge and skill development in servicing, maintaining, testing, diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, trucks, buses and transport vehicles. Graduates will receive training for levels one and two of the apprenticeship for the Heavy Duty Mechanics, and Truck and Transport Mechanics. TRADES Hairstylist Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Do you want to be a cut above? Hairstylist is a one-year certificate program. This program will provide you with practical experience in a salon while helping you complete your 1500 hour pre-employment program. You will learn how to perform techniques on hair, wigs, hairpieces, skin and nails, as well as salon management. The program provides an apprenticeship period of up to two years.

TRADES Health Care Cook
Welding
Meadow Lake Campus Cooks in health care are in demand. The Health Care Cook program is designed to prepare cooks for work in health care settings, such as hospitals, long-term care homes, personal care homes and private care facilities. You will learn how to interact with patients and residents, modify diets to meet specific texture and nutritional requirements related to medical conditions, and work as part of an interdisciplinary team. You will combine hands-on cooking skills with online theoretical knowledge to flexibly gain valuable health care cooking experience.
Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Welding is a one-year certificate program where you will build knowledge and skills in operating welding equipment and performing basic welding operations. You’ll get hands-on instruction in cutting processes, gas metal arc, as well as learning general shop practice and shop safety. Pre-Social Work Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Students wishing to pursue the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Regina should first enroll in the 30 credit hour Pre-Social Work Program. The Pre-Social Work program requirements must be completed in order for students to apply for admission to the BSW program. All Pre-Social Work courses are available at North West College.

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION
Stepping Stones to Success Many adults who did not complete a high school program have continued to learn through a variety of experiences encountered in everyday life. The purpose of the GED testing program is to provide an opportunity for these individuals to have their learning evaluated and recognized and used for work or post secondary studies. Although the GED test represents less of a time commitment than a high school diploma, it’s not academically easier. The test is graded on an equivalency scale compared to current high school students. Prepare for and write the GED with the help of one or more of the following supports:
GED® College Supports Assessment: Assess your readiness to write the GED and find out if the GED diploma is the right path to meet your goals by taking part in the regularly scheduled Adult Basic Education intake testing process (see website for upcoming dates). No charge.
GED® Exams The computer based GED® Exam is made up of 5 subjects: Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science. Exams are $7 per subject. You can write one exam or multiple exams in one sitting. See www.GED.com to create an account. Battlefords Campus (Create an account and book online). Essential Skills for the Workplace (ESWP) ESWP programs focus on providing learners with enhanced literacy and numeracy skills, as well as incorporating employment information and readiness (including work placements) into programs. The programs will assist participants to enter the workforce.

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION Level 1 - Literacy
Level 3 - Adult 10
Level 1 Literacy programs are designed to help adult learners in their everyday lives as family members, community members, and workers. The focus is on those general skills, abilities, and aptitudes needed to function in day-to-day life.
Level 3 courses (Communications, Social Studies, Life/Work Studies, Mathematics and Science) are designed for people who want to build on their knowledge and skills. Learners who complete Level 3 successfully go on to further education, training, or employment opportunities.
Level 2 - Pathways
Level 4 - Adult 12
Level 2 programs can be focused on academics or employment readiness. They are designed to develop skills, attitudes and abilities to help students gain prerequisites for further training or employment. They focus on enhancing skills such as technological literacy, communication skills, portfolio development and life skills.
Level 4 students are required to complete seven 30-Level credits including: English (2 credits), Math (1 credit), Science (1 credit), Social Studies (1 credit), and Electives (2 credits). Students may be eligible to receive a Prior Learning Credit as one of their electives if they have 20 weeks of full-time work experience or have completed a course that is equal in weight and rigor to a 30-level course.

Conversation Circle A Conversation Circle is an excellent opportunity to practice English-speaking and listening skills, meet new friends and learn about culture and customs. Throughout the academic year, Lunch & Learn sessions are held for College students. Student Services supplies a free lunch and provides students with an information session that could benefit their academic and personal lives. Presentations can range from essay writing, to renters rights, addictions, and job opportunities, just to name a few. Lunch & Learn is offered various times throughout the year, whether in person or virtually. Students are asked to sign up before the event, as seating can be limited for these informative sessions.

One-on-One Computer Training
Discover your computer’s capabilities and become familiar with the Windows environment and file management. Develop proficiency with the internet, email, and Microsoft Word through hands on practice. You will be introduced to the potential of Excel and Powerpoint. This is a beginner class.

COMPUTERS Excel Basics Learn how to create electronic spreadsheets and discover the basics of storing, organizing and manipulating data. This overview of Excel Level 1 includes the basics of using the toolbar, formatting, formulas and functions.
Excel Advanced Are you looking to make Excel do more work for you? Learn to work with multiple sheets, relative/absolute cell referencing, formulas with arithmetic and comparison operators and other advanced formatting to get more from your Excel program.
PowerPoint Use PowerPoint to take your next presentation from dull to dynamic! Quickly learn what you need to know to create, edit, and modify simple presentations. This course will introduce the basic commands, functions and capabilities of Microsoft PowerPoint.
Word Basics Learn the basic skills to create electronic letters using Microsoft Word. This introduction to word processing provides an overview of the functions required to get you started with creating and formatting a document.
Word Advanced A look at the advanced features of Word including mail merges, labels, charts, tables and other tools useful for designing brochures and newsletters. Learn about Word, the web and integrating with other Microsoft components.
