Business Battlefords Campus The one-year Business certificate program gives you a well-rounded business foundation for entry-level positions. You’ll learn core business concepts: accounting, finance, management, computers, marketing, insurance, human resources and more.

Business - Year 2 Accountancy Battlefords Campus This is the second year of the two-year business diploma program, specializing in Accountancy. Accounting is about more than numbers, it’s about conducting audits, doing business analyses and presenting financial information so managers and investors can make informed decisions. Accounting is often called the language of business. In this program you’ll study cost accounting, auditing, taxation, finance, quantitative methods and more.

Office Administration Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Office Administration is a one-year certificate program that provides knowledge and skill development related to the business office environment. This program will have an emphasis on computer applications. Instruction will include projects that will give you a hands-on understanding of the demands and rewards of work in an office setting.

JUSTIN WAHOBIN Early Childhood Education Graduate - Battlefords Campus Justin Wahobin was a welder by trade but decided that wasn’t for him. As a father of three, his love for his kids took him to Early Childhood Education at North West College. “It was amazing! Everyone was so great here, the teachers are wonderful & everyone is so friendly!” Justin is now an Early Childhood Interventionist at BECIP (Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program) making a huge difference in our community.

Make a Difference Continuing Care Assistant Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus The Continuing Care Assistant program allows you to make a difference in someone’s life everyday. This program is a one-year certificate program. If you enjoy caring for others, the Continuing Care Assistant program might be right for you. You’ll work directly with clients in long-term care, home care, assisted living, and even special needs classrooms. You will help them with mobility, personal care, assisting them to eat their meals and medication monitoring. Your clinical work experiences will give you a taste of different work settings and offer you a strong foundation as a health care support staff. Early Childhood Education Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus-Part Time Early Childhood Education (ECE) gives you the knowledge and skills you need to work in a variety of child care settings. The ECE program integrates current research on early childhood education into all of your courses. You’ll receive well-rounded training in child and adolescent development and guidance techniques. You will receive handson experience developing programming for creative arts, language, cognitive, social and emotional development. You will play, learn and grow in ECE. Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus The two-year Practical Nursing diploma program trains you to be a vital part of today’s health care team. You will learn to provide compassionate, professional nursing care to a full range of patients from infants to seniors in acute care, long-term care and within the community. Youth Care Worker Diploma

HEALTH CARE & COMMUNITY SERVICE

Battlefords Campus North West College is offering the twoyear Youth Care Worker Diploma program as it has transfer credit towards social work and justice studies degrees. This is the second year of the diploma program. The Youth Care Worker program will help you develop the skills you need to build healthy relationships with children, youth and families. You will get practical experience planning and implementing activities geared towards youth. You will learn about addictions, the criminal justice system, behavioural intervention strategies, therapeutic activities, and Indigenous awareness, among other topics making you a valuable support staff for youth in your community.

Little Pine First Nation (LPFN) & National Indian Brotherhood (NIB) Trust In 2016-17, NWC partnered with NIB Trust and LPFN to deliver a Youth Care Worker program on Little Pine First Nation. Intended to promote healing and reconciliation, the program proved hugely successful with all students completing the program, gaining tremendous confidence and transitioning to employment or continuing their training to a Social Work degree.

Hands on Training Electrician Meadow Lake Campus

Electrician is an applied certificate program in a field that is in demand. You will acquire entry level skills training in electrical installations and perform maintenance duties according to industry standards. Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician Meadow Lake Campus Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician is a one-year certificate program. It provides knowledge and skill development in servicing, maintaining, testing, diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, trucks, buses and transport vehicles. Graduates will receive training for levels one and two of the apprenticeship for the Heavy Duty Mechanics, and Truck and Transport Mechanics. NWC has an excellent lab, fitted with the latest equipment, including computer simulation technology, giving our students the best training possible. Get geared up for this program today.

TRADES Hairstylist Battlefords Campus Do you want to be a cut above? Hairstylist is a one-year certificate program. This program will provide you with practical experience in a salon while helping you complete your 1500 hour pre-employment program. You will learn how to perform techniques on hair, wigs, hairpieces, skin and nails, as well as salon management. The program provides an apprenticeship period of up to two years. Graduates of the Hairstylist program have the opportunity to move directly into Esthetician training, expanding your skills and giving you another exciting career option.

Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Plumbing and Pipefitting is an applied certificate program. This training gives you foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in plumbing installation, water supplies, waste systems and plumbing fixtures. Welding Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Welding is a one-year certificate program where you will build knowledge and skills in operating welding equipment and performing basic welding operations. Supporting Your Road to Success Pre-Social Work Battlefords Campus Meadow Lake Campus Students wishing to pursue the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Regina should first enroll in the 30 credit hour Pre-Social Work Program. The Pre-Social Work program requirements must be completed in order for students to apply for admission to the BSW program. All Pre-Social Work courses are available at North West College.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Pre-Professional Year Battlefords Campus With this pre-professional year you are eligible to apply for the remaining three years of nursing education at the University of Saskatchewan, leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The pre-professional year is foundational to the nursing program and will include courses in the humanities, natural, social and health sciences. It will prepare you to play a vital role as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the health care system.

Many adults who did not complete a high school program of instruction have continued to learn through a variety of experiences encountered in everyday life. The purpose of the GED® testing program is to provide an opportunity for these individuals to have the learning gained from such life experiences evaluated and recognized.

Do you need to refresh your writing skills? Sign up for an essay writing workshop with subsequent tutoring sessions to review and improve your essay writing skills.

The computer based GED® Exam is made up of 5 subjects: Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science. Exams are $7 per subject. You can write one exam or multiple exams in one sitting. See www.GED.com to create an account.

Level 1 - Literacy

Level 3 - Adult 10

Level 1 Literacy programs are designed to help adult learners in their everyday lives as family members, community members, and workers. The focus is on those general skills, abilities, and aptitudes needed to function in day-to-day life.

Level 2 programs can be focused on academics or employment readiness. They are designed to develop skills, attitudes and abilities to help students gain prerequisites for further training or employment. They focus on enhancing skills such as technological literacy, communication skills, portfolio development and life skills.

Essential Skills for the Workplace (ESWP) ESWP programs focus on providing learners with enhanced literacy and numeracy skills, as well as incorporating employment information and readiness (including work placements) into programs. The programs will assist participants to enter the workforce.

Level 4 students are required to complete seven 30-Level credits including: English (2 credits), Math (1 credit), Science (1 credit), Social Studies (1 credit), and Electives (2 credits). Students may be eligible to receive a Prior Learning Credit as one of their electives if they have 20 weeks of full-time work experience or have completed a course that is equal in weight and rigor to a 30-level course.

North West College is pleased to offer an intense, 24-hour IELTS preparation class. This IELTS course is for english students at an intermediate level and above. This program provides a solid grounding in the exam skills necessary for success in all four modules of the IELTS exam: Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking. Prepare to demonstrate your english skills to the best of your ability in your english language equivalency test. Battlefords Campus Four consecutive Sundays or evenings. English as an Additional Language for Newcomers to Canada Did you know to become a Canadian Citizen you need an English Language Benchmark (CLB) of CLB 4 in speaking and listening? Improve your English by learning to speak, read, listen and write. Classes are ongoing from September through to May each year. We offer many different levels of English classes. There is no cost to attend classes. English testing is available to ensure correct placement in classes. Part-time classes available in North Battleford, Meadow Lake, and Rosthern. Additional communities can be considered based on demand. Applications are available at either Battlefords Campus, Meadow Lake Campus or online. Road to Success... Nikki Thunderchild Nikki Thunderchild left her full time job to achieve her grade 12 from North West College. With her kids as her motivation she didn’t stop there! After completing her grade 12 she decided to enroll in the Business Certificate program at NWC. In November, Nikki received three entrance scholarships: Sobeys Choose Excellence Scholarship, North Battlefords Elks Lodge #369 Scholarship and The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Scholarship totaling $6,000! Following the completion of her Business Certificate, she plans to continue her schooling with the Accountancy Program at North West College.

Online Fire Extinguisher - Danatec - $50

SAFETY & INDUSTRY TRAINING

Confined Space Entry & Monitor - $165 (OSSA certified) This course prepares candidates to work safely in confined spaces and is ideal for workers, supervisors and safety personnel. Learn practical safety skills including entry into a confined space and rescue simulation wearing a self–contained breathing apparatus.

Enform H2S Alive - $160 This course is intended for all workers in the petroleum industry who could potentially be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S). This course covers the physical properties and health hazards of hydrogen sulphide, how to protect yourself and basic rescue techniques.

Fall Protection - $165 (OSSA certified) This is intended for workers, supervisors, managers, and safety personnel involved in drilling and service rig operations. Topics covered include fall protection, legislation, control levels, anchor and free fall, full body harnesses, connecting components, fall distance calculations and specialized fall arrest systems.

First Aid/CPR “C” - $160 A modular course for those who want to learn more than basic first aid skills. This course offers an extensive selection of options and meets the Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Recertification - $100+GST

Global Ground Disturbance - $160 This course is essential when working in the oil and gas industry. Students will learn the causes of cave–ins, pre–job planning, job safety and trenching regulations.

This online Fire Safety program based on the Ontario Fire Code will provide the knowledge necessary to prevent fires in the workplace. It also focuses on the basic elements of fire prevention and protection.

Safety Construction Orientation Training (SCOT) - $50 The Safety Construction Orientation Training (SCOT) program is an interactive, online-training course composed of 13 modules, each focused on a different fundamental aspect of worksite safety. SCOT is convenient, easy-to-understand, interactive and accessible. The program begins with an introductory module that describes the content, purpose and important practical information necessary to help participants navigate through the training experience. Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) - Danatec - $50 This four hour course includes TDG legislation, classification, safety marks, documentation, safe handling, incident reporting, and emergency response.

WHMIS - Danatec - $50 The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Canada’s national hazard communication standard, has incorporated the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) – an internationally recognized standard for hazard classification and communication.

National Food Safety Training Program - $90 This course covers introduction to food safety, biological hazards, food safety hazards (chemical, physical, allergen), facilities, design and construction, equipment and utensils, control of hazards (from purchasing to service/distribution), cleaning and sanitation, pest control, employee & visitor illness, injury and hygiene, education and training, and program management (HACCP). National Food Safety Training Program is delivered face-to-face and online by appointment.

Nutrition Coordinator This is a self study course that has been developed by the Public Health Nutritionists of Saskatchewan for people working primarily in school and daycare settings.
