GRAND MASTER KEY.
Difference between cylinders KEYED ALIKE and cylinders with MASTER KEY OR UNDER MASTER KEY.
KEYED ALIKE (KA) cylinders with the same key. Keyed alike refers to a number of cylinders which can operated with the same key.
For example if a house has a front door, a back door, a side door and a door for the storage unit, all the above doors could be operated with the same single key. Other doors could be added as well such as the door of a holiday house or the office etc.
MASTER KEY OR UNDER MASTER KEY CYLINDERS (MK)
Cylinders under Master key refers to a system of cylinders, in which all cylinders are operated by different individual keys, and there is the MASTER KEY that opens all cylinders.
For example, in an office space, all offices have different individual keys, and there is the MASTER KEY which can open all doors which could be used by the cleaning staff or the management.
Another example could be a hotel. All guest doors have different individual keys and there could be the MASTER KEY which could open all doors and could be used by the cleaning staff of the management in case of emergency.
Master keyed cylinders are usually made to order according to our customer’s access requirements. For building with multiple floors , a MK systems could also have a number of Sub Master Keys (one for each floor) operated under a Grand Master Key (GMK). Consist of a number of Sub Master Keys (“Subs”) under a Grand Master Key (GMK).
