The Show (’n Shine) Must Go On!

FRIDAY AUG. 15TH 5-8:30PM FREE ADMISSION & PARKING IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE CORNER OF PEARL AND YAJOME (WHERE THE FARMERS MARKET IS HELD)

Car shows are starting to disappear all over the country, but that’s not going to be the case in Napa. “Closing streets to host any event is harder and harder to do,” said Bill LaLiberte, Executive Director of the Downtown Napa Association (DNA). “But as long as we have anything to do with it, the Show and Shine will keep going.” The DNA has been partners on the event with the Napa Valley Cruisers for close to ten years, and both groups are committed to keeping things going.

“Traditionally, Show and Shines were an opportunity for folks participating in the next day’s big event to wipe down their cars and get them show-ready,” said Bill La Liberte of the Downtown Napa Association. “Our Show and Shine has turned into a stand-alone event. The cars are in pristine condition and 100% ready for viewing.”

This year’s Show ’n Shine is Friday, August 15 from 5 PM to 8:30 PM, in Parking lot X, at the corner of Pearl and Yajome (where the Farmers Market is held). Admission to view the cars is free. Many Napans take advantage of the cooler evening weather and relaxed atmosphere to bring their families to check out the cars. Grab something to eat and drink while you are enjoying the cars, or make an evening of it and have dinner before or after. Either way, you’ve got a great Friday night.

Anyone interested in showing a car at the Show ’n Shine can do so by visiting donapa.com. The cost is $20 per car. This

one always fills up – advance registration is required.

The Downtown Napa Association and Napa Valley Cruisers hosted Main Street Reunion for over 25 years. The event began as a two-block, one-day only show on Main Street in front of the old Firefighters’ Museum at the corner of Main and Pearl, and featured less than 50 cars. It quickly outgrew that spot, hosting as many as 400 cars on Third and Main Streets. Unfortunately, the logistics of putting on a show like that while guaranteeing public safety have increased over the years, leading to many shows around the state and country being cancelled. Local organizers thought Main Street was finished, but someone on the team had the brilliant idea to continue with the Show n’ Shine. The DNA reached out to the Napa Valley Cruisers, who have always been a critical part of the event (“They know all the car guys,” said La Liberte with a smile). The Cruisers, barely blinked. “Oh, we definitely will be part of this,” said Tammy Robinette, club president.

Show n’ Shine and other DNA events are possible thanks to their sponsors: Do Napa, Napa Valley Marketplace Magazine, all Downtown Napa property owners through their Property and Business Improvement District (PBID), and Napa lodging establishments through the Tourist Information District (TID).
