Ai was founded in 1985 and serves as one of seventeen Centers for Independent Living located across Virginia.
We believe that empowerment and independence is vital within the community. When people with and without disabilities work together, the result is beneficial.
“Because of You”, the contributions we receive help fund ramps, walkers, wheelchairs, transport chairs, and numerous other types of durable medical equipment Our community partners and individuals have been extremely generous and supportive of our Mission Statement, goals, and efforts THANK YOU!
Location: We are geographically situated in and surrounded by Edinburg, Mt. Jackson and Conicville. We support our urban and rural communities through fellowship, goodwill, and community service. Chartered in 1956, we have been serving our community for over 64 years.
Meetings: We meet at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month in local churches, keeping us connected to community needs.
Contributions: In 2024 we returned over $13,000 to residents of Shenandoah County through scholarships and financial gifts to various groups including A Small Hand, Cub Scouts, and various Food Pantries.
Fundraisers: Funds are raised thorough the sale of Vidalia Onions, Apple Dumplings, Country Ham Sandwiches, and food sales at community events like Edinburg Old Time Festival and Yard Crawl.
Volunteer Hours: In 2024, we volunteered 2,585 hours to support organizations and activities such as after school programs, Honoring Veterans, and volunteering at hospitals, food pantries and ride sharing.

APOSTLES CREED
I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER ALMIGHTY, MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH; AND IN JESUS CHRIST HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, OUR LORD, WHO WAS CONCEIVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY, SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE, WAS CRUCIFIED, DEAD, AND BURIED. THE THIRD DAY HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD. HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN AND SITS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD THE FATHER ALMIGHTY; FROM THERE HE WILL COME TO JUDGE THE LIVING AND THE DEAD. I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY GHOST, GOD’S HOLY CHURCH, THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY AND THE LIFE EVERLASTING. AMEN
