“Mountain Trails is part of an industry known as specialty outdoor retail,” says Green. “Which translates to the fact that many of the products in Mountain Trails are not available to any other retailer in the area.”

Winchester, the flagship store, is 4,000-square-feet of merchandise for the hiker, mountain biker, mountain climber, camper and more. “In some cases, people who come in who want to do family trips are looking for something different,” she added, saying that perhaps they’ve traveled the Caribbean on a cruise or been to a resort and want to explore a new area that has something to offer their young kids or teens. Heading into winter, traveling south to Florida and beyond in the Caribbean becomes popular, with peak season for travel there from December to April, Battles said. Trips north to Alaska and Scandinavian countries are also popular during that time frame as people seek out the Northern Lights, she said. Travel abroad — Britain and Ireland are popular destinations — can be crafted with concierge service and detailed itineraries or with more flexibility, depending on the preference of the travelers, she said.

Sweetness would overpower your classic Thanksgiving foods,” Good said, adding that a good rule of thumb is to serve savory food with savory wines and sweet wines with sweet foods. “This dry-style Riesling will complement your turkey or other white meat dishes wonderfully,” he said, adding that despite the amount of residual sugar these wines hold, the higher acidity brings a perfect balance to the palate and also goes well with hors d’oeuvres. Shiraz of this quality often sells for well over $100.” Good recommends pairing it with “anything from lamb to a fatty ribeye.” Chardonnay from the Meursault region of Burgundy makes for a great winter time sipper. The gallery recently restocked a bunch of Willa Cather books, too, Patrick says. Cather, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, was born in Frederick County in 1873. Patrick invites shoppers to take a seat, rest, check their shopping lists and look around. There’s plenty more to discover in Winchester Book Gallery beyond new books. Ada Knight and Martha Knight are in-laws who have made their frame shop at 385 Millwood Ave. a go-to place for generations. The one thing that will help make all your decisions, is style! What style photo best reflects your family this year? Perusing some photo card websites will help give you some ideas.
