Anyone who has read this column during previous editions will have seen me write at length about the phenomenal work of organisations who operate across our community. It is always a great privilege to be able to showcase their work to politicians from local and national government. Without exception, they always admire how people who are struggling receive love, care and attention. Now there is a way for members of our community to recognise those individuals and charities who have exceeded expectations and assisted those in need. On the 7th September, the JRC will be hosting our Community Awards. This will be a celebration of everything that is good about our community. Award categories include Volunteer of the Year, Volunteering Team of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Communal Employee of the Year, Friend of the Community, Rising Star, Lifetime Achievement Award, Emergency Response Award and a Special Recognition Award.

I encourage everyone to think about who has gone above and beyond to help those who are struggling? Which charities continually perform heroics to ensure vulnerable people don’t suffer? Who are the dedicated people give their time and energy to selflessly volunteer their services for absolutely no reward? Which young people and communal professionals stand out? Who deserves to be recognised for a lifetime contribution to our community?
