HENRY CROWN SPORTS PAVILION //

Get active and fit at this beautiful facility situated on the Evanston campus shores of Lake Michigan. This facility includes cardio equipment, strength training areas, two basketball courts, a multipurpose court, indoor jogging track, and locker rooms.

NORRIS AQUATICS CENTER //

Located within the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, activities include swim lessons, water fitness classes, and lifeguard certification courses.

COMBE TENNIS CENTER //

Located within the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, six varsity grade tennis courts are available for game play and lessons.

Includes two basketball courts, strength training area, cardio equipment, and two locker rooms.

VANDY CHRISTIE TENNIS CENTER //

Nine outdoor courts available for recreational play on a first-come, first-served basis beginning late spring through fall. Courts are open May to October.

The Northwestern Sailing Center is open May to October, weather permitting. Northwestern students, faculty, staff, alumni, other University affiliates, and the general public may enjoy access.

These playing fields are used as practice and competition fields for intramural and sport club teams.

LAKESIDE ATHLETIC FIELDS //

2400 Campus Drive

These playing fields are home to the varsity soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and football teams. Sport clubs and intramural teams also enjoy use of these fields.

NORTHWESTERN BEACH //

2311 Campus Drive

Located to the north of the Ryan Fieldhouse, the beach is open during the summer months and is free for Northwestern students and members of the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion.

RYAN FIELDHOUSE & WILSON FIELD //

The indoor, regulation-size practice field is utilized for varsity football, soccer, and lacrosse practices and games. Sport club teams also enjoy use of this field.

A one-time $100 registration fee applies to all households. *The child rate is only valid if a parent is a member of the facility. Children six and under are free. Children must be at least 16 years of age to use the facility without being accompanied by an adult member.

GROUP EXERCISE Northwestern University Recreation offers a variety of Group Exercise classes throughout the year. Each class is taught by a nationally certified instructor, helping participants of all fitness levels work towards their fitness goals.

PERSONAL TRAINING Our highly motivated and well experienced team of certified personal trainers are ready to help make physical activity an essential part of your life. Our trainers work with you to design a custom program that reflects your personal needs, interests, and goals. Trainers are with you every step of the way, providing the expertise to help you achieve your personal best.

INDIVIDUAL TRAINING

Whether your goal is to decrease body fat, build muscle, or train for a marathon, a trainer can keep you on track, motivated, and focused.

PARTNER & GROUP TRAINING

Small Group Training is perfect for those who want to sweat with friends. Groups of two to five people work with one of our trainers who will create a workout program that is tailored to fit the group’s needs.

PRIVATE YOGA

Private yoga addresses your individual needs by providing you with the tools necessary to improve breathing, flexibility, posture, and muscular balance.

Private yoga sessions allow you to focus on the mindbody connection.

PRIVATE PILATES

Working with a Pilates instructor allows you to focus on your personal needs and build strength, flexibility, and balance. This method focuses on breathing and coordination, while improving alignment and posture on the Pilates reformer. The use of the reformer and other Pilates equipment helps to lengthen muscles and produce successful results.

Pilates Reformer Training The Pilates reformer is an apparatus, in which resistance is provided by body weight and spring load, offering full range of motion, increasing flexibility, and building strength. Discover the power of Pilates by working with one of our trainers.

COMPLIMENTARY FITNESS ASSESSMENT

Assessments provide professional advice and guidance towards fitness goals. All Northwestern students and members can take advantage of our complimentary assessment that covers baseline measurements and includes a consultation with a fitness professional.

Participants are also offered recommendations based on existing offerings, programs, and services.

Complimentary assessments include: • Health and medial history review • Exercise history review • Resting heart rate and blood pressure • Body composition • Muscular strength and endurance • Flexibility

FULL FITNESS ASSESSMENT

This assessment can be purchased for $30 in the Membership Office. First-time clients who complete a complimentary fitness assessment will receive $10 off their first Personal Training package.

FACILITY & EQUIPMENT ORIENTATION

During this free orientation, a fitness professional will educate you on the proper use of the most popular equipment at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion. You will also review fitness floor etiquette to ensure that the facility is a friendly and neat environment for all.

MASSAGE SERVICES Northwestern Recreation massage services are one of the most effective ways to combat stress and enhance wellness. Our massage therapists will work with you to customize your experience and cater to your individual needs. A variety of effective massage techniques are available to Northwestern students, members, and non-members.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Using light to medium pressure, this massage increases circulation and promotes relaxation to help relieve stress-related conditions and chronic pain.

DEEP TISSUE

Release muscle tension, relieve deep pain, and improve circulation with deep tissue massage. Customized for the unique needs of each client, this massage is good for chronic pain and overuse injuries.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports massage helps prepare you for optimal performance, reduces recovery time, and helps to prevent injuries. This treatment is perfect for sports enthusiasts and computer users alike.

HOT STONE

Using hot stones to penetrate deep into muscles, this treatment releases stiffness and tension while decreasing stress and anxiety. Hot stone massage is ideal for stress-related conditions, chronic pain, and rheumatic/arthritic conditions.

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is based on the science of reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all parts of the body. Focusing on these zones, reflexology massage results in physiological changes in the body, relieving stress and tension, and promoting healing and deep relaxation.

AROMATHERAPY

Aromatherapy is available as an add-on to all massages. The high-quality oils used contain the purest distilled parts of flowers, herbs, and fruits. Your therapist will discuss and recommend oils based on your emotional and physical needs. The oils absorbed into the skin help to detox the body and encourage cellular renewal, while complementing the massage with its aromatic effects.

First-time clients receive $5 off a 30-minute massage or $10 off a 60 or 90-minute massage.

Refer two new clients within a 60 day period and receive a FREE 60-minute massage.

AQUATICS The Norris Aquatics Center hosts an assortment of instructional and recreational activities, including recreational lap swim hours, aqua fitness classes, and certification courses.

On any given day the pool is teeming with activities such as swimming lessons, water polo matches, scuba lessons, and Varsity swimming and diving meets.

This Olympic-size pool is located within the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, and is home to the Northwestern varsity Swimming and Diving teams.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private and semi-private swim lessons offer instruction for all ages and all abilities.

These lessons are 30 minutes long and can be scheduled any day the pool is open for lap swimming.

YOUTH LESSONS

The focus of this program is to give children ages 4-12 the physical skills and safety knowledge necessary to maximize their enjoyment of the water. Class size is limited to maintain a safe ratio of children to instructors.

ADULT LESSONS

The adult swim program offers group instruction for adults ages 18 and up.

Classes are broken down into three swimming levels to maximize your learning experience.

PARENT TOT LESSONS

Introduces children (6 months to 3 years) to the water with the support of a parent.

CPR/AED CERTIFICATION

The American Red Cross CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac and breathing emergencies. This basic level hands-on course teaches skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified for two years.

LIFEGUARDING

This American Red Cross certification trains swimmers to become lifeguards. It covers the skills and knowledge required for effective lifeguarding at swimming pools and at non-surf, open-water beaches. Participants must be at least 15-years-old and able to pass a swimming test given on the first day of class.

SCUBA LESSONS

Teaches the skills required for modest-depth scuba and skin diving. You’ll learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques.

WILDCAT AQUATICS

The NASA Wildcat Aquatics Team strives to achieve success in swimming by creating a positive atmosphere where swimmers are encouraged to enjoy themselves. The program is designed to build a love of swimming within all participants that will keep them involved in the sport long after they finish competing as part of the team.

For any competitive or non-competitive adult swimmers wishing to improve upon their skills. Swimmers must be able to swim two lengths of the pool to join.

SAILING CENTER Whether you are an experienced sailor looking to hone your skills or have never set foot on a boat, Northwestern University Sailing Center has something for you.

The entire Northwestern community and the general public will enjoy the Sailing Center’s easily accessible campus location, spectacular views of Chicago, and a trained helpful staff committed to providing an enjoyable and safe sailing experience to all guests.

MEMBERSHIP

All Sailing Center memberships include use of select sailboats and sailboards at no extra cost. In the interest of safety, everyone who purchases a membership is required to pass a proficiency test to earn NU skippers rating.

Additional fees are required for use of Hobie Cats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.

CATAMARAN RENTALS

Challenge your skills and feel your adrenaline flow as you skim the surface in our club’s catamarans. Hobie Wave can hold up to three people, while larger Hobie Getaways can accommodate up to five adults.

Rentals can be reserved in advance and walk ups are always welcome.

KAYAK & PADDLEBOARD RENTALS

For your windless adventure, choose between single or double kayaks, and full-size stand-up paddleboards (SUP).

LEARN TO SAIL

Learn to Sail lessons are ideal for beginning sailors or as a refresher course. Instruction focuses on basic sailing skills, nomenclature, safety practices, rules of right of way, and rigging/derigging procedures. Every person taking an adult class will be given a free one month membership to the Sailing Center.

Develop basic windsurfing skills and nomenclature, rules of right of way, safety practices, and rigging/derigging procedures.

Every person taking an adult class will be given a free one month membership to the Sailing Center. Class meets twice a week for two weeks.

WILDCAT WINDSURFING CAMP

Wildcat Youth Windsurfing Camp offers children ages 9 – 15 a well-rounded experience that emphasizes safety, fun, and a love of windsurfing. As they become more experienced windsurfers they will have the chance to advance into more performance oriented windsurfing. Each camp is led by professional instructors and longtime windsurfing enthusiasts.

WILDCAT YOUTH SAILING CAMP

Wildcat Youth Sailing Camp offers children ages 9 – 15 a well-rounded experience that emphasizes safety, fun, and a love for sailing.

Campers are taught by professional instructors and longtime sailing enthusiasts. To enhance your child’s learning and development, the camp limits class size to 30 campers per session.

LITTLE CATS SAILING CAMP

In this course, we introduce children 5 to 8 years old to dinghy sailing. The camp is designed to help young children feel at ease on the water and be comfortable in boats. The emphasis is on the sights, sounds, and feel of sailing. The low student-to-instructor ratio not only provides an especially safe environment, but also allows the students to learn efficiently and effectively.

WILDCAT INTRO TO RACING CAMP

Wildcat Intro to Racing Camp offers children ages 12 – 18 an opportunity to learn about dinghy racing. This camp emphasizes proper boat handling, race tactics, and establishes fundamental racing skills.

TENNIS Our tennis program provides a variety of options for adults and youth of all ability levels. Whether you’re looking to learn the basics or already an ace, our experienced instructors will work with you in group and individual settings.

GROUP & PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

Whether you are a beginning player looking to improve or an advanced player looking for the next level in training, our coaches will lead you to success. We offer classes and private lessons for all levels and ages, starting as young as 3 years old.

USTA TEAMS

Northwestern University is home to eight USTA league teams. Joining a USTA league team is a great way to stay competitive. Teams have a weekly evening practice and compete in weekend matches against other clubs.

League teams are flexible, fun, competitive, and a great way to stay in shape.

WILDCAT CAMP A Northwestern tradition since 1939, Wildcat Camp continues its success as one of the top quality multi-sports day camps in the Chicagoland area. We offer a fun and exciting experience allowing children to discover and appreciate the many pleasures of being active and fit.

Our program serves girls and boys currently attending second through fifth grade (current sixth graders must be returning campers). Two sessions are available each summer beginning in mid-June and concluding at the end of July.

Transportation is included in the camp tuition.

Registration opens in January.
