Onda Forniture Composad

How to make crowded workspaces less noisy?

Final proyectPRODUCT DEVELOPMENT STUDIO x Composad, 2022

Concept Composad

An economical sound dampering shelve. The combination of the tilted arrangement of the cells and the recycled wood propierties offer optimal performance.

Final proyectPRODUCT DEVELOPMENT STUDIO x Composad, 2022

Dimensionally correct scale models were used to test acustic propierties shoowing a 45% decrease in measured noise on the opposite side of the noise source. Compared to an average 10% of a regular shelve.

The shelve is thought for entry level crowded workspaces. The cost was trimmed to the minimum by the use of recycled wood, standard rectangular wood and commercial hardware.

The project advanced to the executive phase, encompassing user-friendly instructions as well as manufacturing, packaging, and distribution details.

Both intructions and packaging arrangement were tested to confirm their ease.

Packaging:

Measures were optimized to reach the minimum possibble volume of the packaging while staying into container and distribution standard measures.

Sustainability:

The rectangular pieces are cutted from standard wood pannels, the cutting layout was optimezed to achieve a 4% scrap material.

Tech:

To create a long lasting and touch-worthy product various techniques were used: from manual trimming of various plastic materials to 3D printing and metal bending.

Testing

a product to exhaustion!

The aim was

to

create a playful object integrated in a serious (sometimes boring) enviroment. An operative prototype was created to test it’s propierties.

The product is a reinterpretation of the classic office desk pencil case. It has 4 piece that can be combined into at least 20 diffrent positions.

Some modern day functionalites were added keeping a simple shape and an analog object, as the smartphone holder or the space to hide a raphics table.

Skills:

The work is based on a thoroug antropological field research, history becomes a tool to communicate to the general public the general aspects of life of a specific group.

Final proyect for Design per il Restauro, 2021

A metaphorical itinerary with 4 steps is being proposed , starting from the provocation, with the inclusion of the message in the road signs. After capturing the curiosity of the user, we will proceed to break him out of the crowds into the narrowness of the courts.

Then is time to encounter the origins of Venice in the small and distant lagoon cities, before finally acquiring awareness of the responsibility of the tourist. All the steps are prpperly signaled and explained in the website.

ZoomRoom Spaces BoschiDiStefano

Can physical, psychological and social inaccessibility be simultanously solved?

ZoomRoom Spaces BoschiDiStefano

Inaccesibilityes:

The room is located in a third floor of an old building in the city center, therefor is inaccesible for physical disabilities and marginal social groups. In addition the crowded and chaotic spaces meke a visit for a mental disabled extremely unpleasant.

Solution:

A fully accesible and open structure that mimics he shapes of the original bulding and hosts two interactive screens to display artworks in an immersive way. The structure s to be set in public spaces in the outskirts of the city.

ZoomRoom expands museum's reach to a broader audience through a portable installation that serves as an ambassador in public spaces.

Worn Future

Speculative scenarios for a design intervention in the seond hand market.

INTEGRATED PRODUCT DESIGN master thesis, publishet in 2024

Worn Future Research

Abstract:

The second-hand market is both a timeless practice and a topic of pressing relevance today. Its significance has surged economically in the post-pandemic world, and it holds great potential as a sustainable alternative in a society urgently seeking “green” solutions. In this context, a substantial body of scholarly literature focuses on measuring the impact of specific projects and describing their economic growth. However, there is a noticeable gap in academic qualitative analysis that could provide a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the secondhand market. Notably, few product designers have tackled this subject in these terms, as it necessitates refusing traditional projectuality focused on creation and rethinking design as we understand it.

This dissertation begins by exploring the connections between the discipline of product design and the second-hand market. It lays the groundwork for a "design perspective" on the subject through a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary literature review that incorporates sources from economics, engineering, and sociology. This review aims to establish understandable and applicable terms for designers. The research is complemented by fieldwork using specifically created design observation tools, which help untangle and synthesize insights from this often complex and opaque field.

The study highlights the complexity of the secondhand market and the lack of or a rational management approach. This suggests a future where the involvement of product designers is crucial to prevent the dispersion or complete loss of value and affordance of objects entering the secondhand market. The dissertation proposes seven speculative scenarios for this future intervention, considering the various market variables and the key values that need preservation. Finally, these scenarios are tested through a real-world activity, aiming to inspire interpretations and validate their effectiveness.

The structured transition of objects from their first use to a second life.

DESIGN NARRATIVES research paper 2022

Usato Research

Abstract:

The debate around sustainability is one of the key challenges of the modern world. Therefore, it has been analyzed under several competing perspectives.

The academic literature heavily focuses on how to transform the design profession to adapt our activities to concepts like circular economy, recyclable and eco-sourced materials. All of this helps to reduce emissions, but it is not sufficient to halt the advancement of climate change.

There is a very simple, utopic, and radical way to cancel emissions and waste: completely stopping production. In this context, the skills and knowledge of a modern product designer could play a fundamental role. In this paper, I argue that it is possible to apply widely accepted architecture restoration theories to the second hand market, generating value for used objects in a design driven and structured way.
