Note

Dear DearReader, Reader,

The first period of another academic year has already passed and here it is: another NUKS being published! This year, I am in charge of the NUKS and its design. I am not going to lie, having this responsibility feels terrifying, but I am clinging to the positive thoughts and support provided by my friends and family. I am looking forward to working with all the new members of the NUKS as well and expect to learn a lot in the process. For this edition, we have come up with the theme of “New Beginnings.” From the Sixteenth Board’s new sustainable policy to recommendations of new books, films, locations, help services and psychological quizzes, the lovely NUKSers have made this NUKS all about making a positive change in our lives. University can be a lonesome period of life. That does not mean one does not have friends or goes to parties. It is just usually a lot of time spent on your own cooking, reading, doing homework. The trick is to use that time by yourself to understand You better and figure out how to make your life better and happier. F. Scott Fitzgerald once said that it is never too late to be whoever you want to be and live a life you are proud of. But if you find that you are not, find the strength to change that! In my second year of Arts and Culture Studies, I have decided to set a new beginning. This is why I am talking to you now from the preface of the NUKS. I hope you enjoy it and the NUKSers manage to inspire you to start your own new beginning!

n the 24th of September during the General Assembly, the sixteenth board of KNUS was officially chosen! With a lot of sweet and heartwarming moments, during this event the new board members also presented their new policy which is highly concerned with the environment. If you missed the opportunity to attend the General Assembly, here’s your chance to catch up on the new introductions into KNUS delivered directly by our lovely chairwoman Merel in this interview! •Tatyana Dimitrova

The New Sustainable Policy of the Sixteenth Board

Q: During the General Assembly on September 23, 2019, the board introduced some new changes into the KNUS policy regarding sustainability. Could you briefly tell us what they are?

Merel: Yes, we stan sustainability! That’s why we decided to try to improve some things without affecting our budget and members too much. First of all, we bought a set of reusable tableware and cutlery, which is available for the committees to use. By doing so we will avoid buying and wasting single-use plastic. On top of it, the tableware and cutlery looks a lot cuter than those flimsy white things we used to have. Another thing we have “changed” is the food norm within KNUS. From now on, when KNUS provides food, it will always be vegetarian. If necessary, one can specify wanting to eat meat under dietary preferences. The third thing that we will enforce, is the concept of flying only once every three years. Last year was KNUS’s first flight, and we think it should stay a possibility, but only something to be done every now and then. By doing it only once every three years, every member still has at least one opportunity to fly within their KNUS-lifetime. Lastly, a general thing we try to do is look for ways in which we can introduce sustainable activities. Q: What made the board decide to introduce these changes into the KNUS policy? Merel: We decided to introduce these changes because we, as the board, can have a big influence on how sustainable the association is and will be in the future. We believe that everyone should do their best to make small changes to accommodate the battle against climate change and over-consumption. We, as an association, can set an example and inspire others to do the same. Especially since, individually, we are already pretty concerned with being mindful about sustainability, being as I call us: a vegan (Denise), a flexi-vegan (yes, we exist IT’S A SPECTRUM) and a vegetarian (Ira), so we take it rather seriously. Q: What do you hope and expect to achieve with these new adjustments and how is it going so far? So far it’s going okay, of course we’ve only been board for two months now, but we managed to buy the tableware and cutlery and have used it since! They even came right on time for celebrating the arrival of spooky month! Denise even baked some vegan treats for the open hour, so we were being really sustainable that day. We also had a clothing swap in the beginning of the year, and although there weren’t a lot of people, for those who were there it was a success! I went home with three new pieces to grace my wardrobe, and I’m pretty picky about F A S H I U N so that says something! Perhaps there will be a second clothing swap with the change of winter to spring, so that’s something to look forward to! Furthermore, we haven’t had to provide food yet, but we are going on the weekend trip soon, so we’ll see how that goes! Anyway, hopefully we can continue this course and have a year that is not only fun but also sustainable!

How Ca n

Merel explained in an interview about KNUS’ new sustainable policy that the board believes everyone should make small changes into their daily lives to accommodate the battle against climate change. For this reason, I am giving you 10 tips that you can implement into your routines to help preserving our planet and be in sync with KNUS! • Tatyana Dimitrova

2.

Get a reuseable bottle instead of always buying a new plastic one and throwing it away at the end of the day. Decorate it and it will quickly become a habit to carry it everywhere with you!

3.

Remember the 4 R’s of sustainability: refuse: if you don’t need it, refuse it! reduce: can you cut down on how much you are using? reuse: can you reuse the product or parts of the product for another purpose? repair: if it’s broken try to fix it before you throw it away and buy a new one! recycle: dispose of your waste in the correct container!

4.

Be mindful of water and electricity usage!

4

5.

Try to avoid using papernapkins whencleaning around and, instead, use a washable cloth or a towel!

6.

Thrift shop! By buying second-hand, you avoid contributing to the pollution which fast fashion (one of the top three polluters in the world) causes. Moreover, you do not contribute to the unethical labour exploitation in sweatshops.

7.

If you see litter, pick it up and put it in the trash!

? le

Tote bags: Find the cutest ones so they can be an accessory to your outfit! Put them in your backpack and use them instead of plastic bags when grocery shopping! At Albert Heijn and Flying Tiger, you can find small reuseable grocery bags for your fruits and veggies!

ore Sustai M Our na e B b chairwoman I

8.

Try to cut back on animal products! The production of 0,5kg of beef takes nearly 4L of water. No one is saying to completely avoid them, but try to narrow down your consumption. For example, you can pick one or two days a week when you eat vegan or vegetarian. Every little bit counts!

9.

Get inspired: look up videos on YouTube for more neat tips and inspire your friends and family to try with you!

10.

Last but not least: Do not get discouraged! Nobody can ever be entirely “zero waste”.

Short Film Recommendations by Adil Boughlala Scan RQ codes to watch the films!

Negative Space Ru Kuwahata & Max Porter (5 min)

Negative Space is a stop-motion poem about family relations between a boy and his father. The key activity in this film is very easy, packing up a suitcase. As they do so, the film brings us through a journey of comfort and meditation, but it also discusses some serious points. The film plays with endless imagination and the relationship between son and father.

Kiss of the Rabbit God ANDREW THOMAS HUANG (14 min)

Trigger warning: contains nudity/violence This short film follows the story of Matt, a Chinese-American restaurant worker, who works at a family-run Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles. He falls in love with the Rabbit God, an ancient God form 18th century China. This film beautifully captures the relation between Matt and the Rabbit God, but it also showcases an important message about foreign, and in particular Chinese, people and LGBTQ+ relations.

Overrun Pierre Ropars & 5 others (7 min)

Survival is a key instinct, for both humans and animals. In Overrun, an ant ends up falling from a very high place, separated from his group. The ant has no other option than to survive on its own, which results into a magnificent 3d-animated journey. The animation in this short film is off the chart and feels almost like a different world. For those who get antsy of insects, you might feel a little bit uncomfortable at the beginning. But the sheer beauty and brightness of the animation will make up for that.

New venues and locations!

Amsterdam Amsterdam

In Amsterdam, there are many cultural spots which you might know such as Museumplein or venues such as Paradiso and Melkweg. But one venue you might not know is Q-Factory, located in the east-side of Amsterdam. At a big venue for (international) artists inside the old factory, there is a cosy Q-café and is a big centre for music lovers. It has the same kind of industrial energy such as NDSM-Werf, located on the North of Amsterdam. This terrain holds many cute dining spots, murals (Street Art Today), art and music locations such as NDSM Fuse, SEXYLAND and festivals such as Loose Ends. Also, a new venue in the North of Amsterdam: WONDR, an interactive pop-up experience for social media lovers who are looking for instagrammable places, made together with young Dutch artists.

What better to do than explore new cultural and artistic places in your county? I made a list of some of the most cultural and artistic places in some of the bigger cities in The Netherlands. • Vera van Nuenen

Tilburg Tilburg

One of their biggest cultural spaces is Spoorzone(SPZ013), located next to the railways of Tilburg. It has a rich history and gets the attention of many artistic youths. There is an inside Market Hall in the Wagenmakerij, The Biennale Brabant with expositions in the Koepelhal or parties inside Club Smederij.

Eindhoven Eindhoven

A new venue in EHV is LAB-1: a cinema, club, event room and café all in one. It is a dynamic and creative space in the centre of Eindhoven which is also one of the venues of design festival Dutch Design Week (DDW). Other locations which are interesting to visit are Strijp-S: the new creative place made of the old Philips factories (PopEi, het Veem, MU, het Ketelhuis) ; Strijp-T+R: where Piet Hein Eek holds his workspace; Sectie C: you can have a look where the young artists are having their working spots. Or of course artsy places such as de Kazerne, Natlab, de Berenkuil and Van Abbemuseum.

Fashion Revolution

• Vera van Nuenen

There has always been a clash between fashion and sustainability. But recently, fashion designers, brands etc. became more aware of the bad influence the fashion industry has on the world. One of the persons who is involved in the sustainability of fashion is Orsola de Castro. She is an internationally recognised opinion leader in sustainable fashion. She started as a designer for the upcycling label ‘From Somewhere’ which she launched in 1997. In 2013 she founded Fashion Revolution which is a global campaign that asks attention for the ‘behind the scenes’ of the fashion industry. This campaign is built on three pillars: the earnings of the clothing industry, the material of the clothing, and the mindset of the consumer. On the site fashionrevolution.org is a manifest in which is stated what their goals are. They not only want to change the materials to better the environment but also go against slavery and exploit, they want to give people a voice through fashion, provide equal pay. They want fashion to be transparent and accountable and wants fashion to stand for solidarity, inclusiveness and democracy. One thing you may all recognize is the #whomademyclothes campaign in which they support brands to show the workers of the clothes to show transparency inside of the fashion industry to build on trust. By founding this campaign, Orsola wants

6

to get more people involved in thinking about the causes of the fashion industry and wants brands to have a bigger impact in bettering the environment. Therefore, she is connected to Central Saint Martins and supports young brands. One of the young designers she supports is Central Saint Martins MA student Mattew Needham. His brand is about making fashion out of environmental waste, rubbish and upcycled luxury fashion deadstock. He believes that in order to push the movement forward and utilise the platform as creative people, is to speak out and lead by example. His goal was to make a statement in an attempt to challenge the system which he does by analysing material and his utilising and inventing alternative fastenings and fabric manipulation. He does not only want to make a statement with his designs, but also tries to revolutionise the fashion industry. His statement: ‘Trash is the future.’ Besides that, Orsola founded ‘Esthetica’ in 2006 to bring sustainability and ethical into the London Fashion week. In the London Fashion week of 2013, she had eleven of Britain’s leading sustainable fashion brands exhibit their SS14 collections. Some of the ready-to-

wear designers are Ada Zanditon, Katrien van Hecke, Phannatiq and Liora Lassale. They all made a commitment to working sustainably and by exhibiting in the fashion week they got to make their own platform. They got to stand in the spotlight and exhibit their designs on top celebrities, which is stated by Orsola not the most important feature but always means more than worn by unknown models. But: “at the end of the day it’s the hard graft of people that matters”. As to conclude, sustainability is important in the fashion industry. It is not only a way to better the environment but also a way to help the

workers of fashion and get opportunities for brands to get involved with. In the last years, brands get more anticipated with these ethical ideals and try to lower the costs/volume of clothing. Fashion Revolution has over 2,5 million followers and is fast-growing, but the more the better. As Orsola says: ‘inform yourself. you can look at the future and imagine a career without knowledge of sustainability, ethics, responsible design, responsible manufacturing and responsible consumption. Develop your curiosity, find your thread, find out more about it and share it with the world.’

Book Recommendations

by Adil Boughlala

The seasons are slowly changing in Nijmegen, and it’s getting colder as we speak. What better way to challenge the cold than opening up a new book and wrapping yourself up in a blanket tortilla? You can always do the literature for your study another day! As winter is coming (did you get that reference?) you need something cosy.

Before the coffee gets cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi If you had the chance, would you go back in time? Because a small alley cafe in Tokyo might be able to give you this experience. In Before the coffee gets cold, we meet four customers who visit the small cafe, because they all want to go back in time. Every one of them has a reason, such as rekindling with a lost loved one, just one last time. As with most stories, there are some strict rules for time travelling. For instance, customers who go back in time need to sit in a specific chair and they cannot leave the cafe. Most importantly, however, they cannot change anything in the past. Despite this, the customers still go back in time and are challenged with the same question: If you could, what would you change of the past? Did you finish the book and you are looking for something else to do while being locked up because of the cold? Luckily for you, the book has also been adapted into a film! The title of the film is funnily enough called Café Funiculi Funicula. Scan the QR code to watch the trailer.

New Beginnings A Short Story by Cécile Bessems

Walking on rooftops may sound dangerous, but it is pretty easy if you know what you are doing. Or at least, that is what Maeve used to say before she fell off one. Not that she told a lot of people she walked on the top of roofs; that was just asking for trouble. She did tell her best friend, Ran, and he was the only one who knew. That is exactly why it was a bad idea to be sitting right there on the edge of the roof, Maeve thought. Nobody knew where she was, and only Ran could ever tell them what she had been up to. She was shivering in the coldness of the night, and her hands were trembling where they were gripping the edge. Whether that was out of fear or the cold, Maeve would never admit. Her breaths (shaky, irregular) were little clouds in the sky. From up there, she could see the whole city and its lights, which were scattered like fireflies. Beneath her was a gap of almost thirty feet. The few people still walking around at this hour flecks against the stones of the pavement. Nobody would see her sitting up there, which is exactly why she came up to the rooftop in the first place. She used to run on the roofs, having no care in the world. It had always been fun. Now, it was terrifying. Ran would probably yell at her again. He had always been scared about her… habits. But after her fall, he was downright terrified. He was probably right, Maeve thought. But I am not coming down. She did not want to be scared anymore. Running, however, would have to wait. Simply sitting was enough for now. Carefully, she lowered herself onto her back, until she was staring up at the sky. The light pollution made it impossible for her to see any

stars, but the moon was as bright as ever. Not even clouds tampered its light. The silvery smoke of her breaths could not either. Thinking. Could be a good idea. Why did she come up here again? To be alone. To be away from all her responsibilities. To avoid thinking about falling, falling, falling and she couldn’t catch herself and the ground was coming up to meet her and - No. Maeve held her breath for a few seconds. Then, she let it out with an (admittedly) shaky sigh. She opened her eyes. She had not even realised that she had them closed. To not be scared anymore. That was the ultimate reason, no? Falling was not the only priority. It was also about what she had left behind when she came to this new city with Ran and his parents. About what she still had to face. One thing at the time, Maeve thought. She had to get presents for Ran and his parents for Christmas, which was not that far away anymore. It could even be a white Christmas, judging by the coldness in the sky. Ran would like that. He always did love to play around in the snow, especially throwing snowballs at her. Of course, she was better at dodging (she was used to it). But he had better aim than her and still managed to hit her quite a few times. Maeve was glad to be here, in this city with Ran and his parents. And here, on the roof. Her breaths were steady again, she noticed. She actually was getting better. Maeve smiled. Being here, facing her fears and finally being up on the roofs again, felt good. Going away and starting over might have been one of the best decisions she had ever made. This truly was a new beginning, and who knew what the future might bring.

“Why did she come up here again? To be alone.”

Can the new study pill really boost your ability to concentrate as well as assist you with your deadlines and throughout your exam period? Well, a couple of students from Radboud University, Nijmegen, can answer this question, and it is a hard “NO!”

Students Filling Lawsuit against Study Buddy The students are furious at the makers of the new popular concentration – boost drug. It’s a nature –based drug which contains ingredients which will supposedly increase your concentration, reduce your stress levels and enhance your mental rest. The makers of the drug are students themselves from Utrecht. They’ve been confronted on a daily basis with students among them who would use Ritalin before an exam, deadline or just to get through their mid – terms. The two students decided to make a similar drug, but with only natural and healthy components. When the drug was released online and on the shelf in the capus stores, the students were excited and it was sold out very fast. They allegedly took it before a study – session, and before an exam. But unfortunately, the results were disappointing. The students failed all their

• Naomi Gisbertz

exams and are now planning to sue Study Buddy, because the drug didn’t help them to pass their exams, nor their deadlines. Also they had many unnaturalside effects, such as in the beginning a feeling of euphoria, accompanied by hyperthermia, chills, involuntary clenching of the teeth etc. They posted their experience on Facebook and Twitter hoping that there were more students who had the same unfortunate experience. Luckily for them, they got tons of messages from other students that had the same problem with the drug, so now they are all filling a major lawsuit against the makers of Study Buddy. If you’ve experienced the same problem with Study Buddy, don’t take the blame on yourself, there are many students who can relate to what you went through, and who regret buying Study Buddy from the creepy dude at central station.

Starting a new hobby: tips & tricks to boost your creativity

• Daniela Piangiolino

Do you feel we’re on that time of the year when you feel completely overwhelmed by your study load that you forget what (social) life is? Try to take a step back to start taking care of yourself again and creating new inspiring hobbies that can help you either to motivate yourself or just to relax and have some time for yourself. Sometimes it can be difficult to start something new out of nowhere, especially if you feel that you don’t have particular interests or passions. Let yourself be influenced by your surroundings and start to experience different things. Here you are some tips that can help you finding (and starting) a new hobby, based on my personal experience!

1. Trace back all your hobbies that you had in the past and see if there is still something that appeals to you. Sometimes studying can be so daunting that you just forget what you like to do and what helps you to take a breather. Personally, I had this kind of problem with drawing and playing the guitar: my poor album and instrument were covered by dust for more than 6 months, but then I remembered how much I loved doing those things that I had to find some time to start practising again. 2. Reserve some time for yourself every day. Sticking to your schedule isn’t the easiest thing to do, but try to include in your plans also breaks and space for yourself. In that time, experiment many things: read a book, open that annoying Duolingo notification, go for a walk, sleep (my favourite hobby), paint, knit, stitch, or anything else you’ve been postponed for the last three months. 3. Get inspired by people around you. Discussing with your fellows about hobbies and activities to do in your free time can help you discover things that you never thought about. For me it worked like that with podcasts: I have listened to one with a friend, and now I seek new podcasts at least once a week! But of course it can relate to everything else, even to experiment some new recipes (like a pumpkin lasagna!). 4. Start ticking out things from your bucket list. Although usually bucket lists comprehend crazy stuff, you might have included something like ‘Write a blog’ or ‘Do a volunteering experience’. These things are easy to put into practise in your everyday life and can help you to find stimulation. 5. Try different things. If your friends haven’t inspired you enough, ask Google! Internet is full of ideas that might interest you. I usually check that kind of websites that recite: “50 Fun Inexpensive Hobbies to Start Right Now” and I have to say that once you get that boost, starting is smooth! 6. Last but not least, START NOW! It doesn’t matter how much study you have to do, find some time for yourself! It can be as soon as you wake up, in the middle of the day when you need to refresh your mind from hours of study, or just before you sleep in the evening. You have time, use it for increase you mental and physical health. I know these tips might be a bit general, but I hope you can apply them to yourself and discover unexpected things! Take care of yourself and experiment new stuff!

Mindful Podcast Cleanse

01

No one wants to bring their trash with them when they enter a time of New Beginnings; one should only enter when the remnants of the past have been cleaned out. Similar to the stages of grief, I believe there are four stages of a mindful cleanse. What better way to do this than through podcasts? • Sarah Selena

Feel Understood Kalyn’s Coffee Talk

The first stage is to feel seen and heard. Kalyn talks about every possible topic imaginable - relationships, work, family, the self, and everything in between. Kalyn is super open and positive, so every episode is like a mini epiphany or a deep talk with a best friend.

03

02

Cry it Out Mindful Kind

The second stage is to open yourself up. Rachel goes into the deeper parts of the soul; sensitivity, compassion, focus, purposefulness, and much more. If listening to Kalyn is like listening to a best friend, listening to Rachel is like listening to a therapy session. It’s the perfect podcast to listen to when you feel utterly human and lonely, and she always guides us towards healing.

Laugh it Off The Wooden Spoon

Fear not, the third stage includes comic relief. High school and Uni kids get together to share the struggle and bond. Eve, Jade, Ruby, and Jack embody every student ever when they’re on their break on campus. The Wooden Spoon is the perfect podcast to listen to when you just need a breather with some friends while discussing topics that will surely come up during your studies, such as leadership, mental health, burnout, and self-criticism.

04

Get it Together

Mindful Productivity Podcast

Once you’ve gone through the motions, the final stage is to pick yourself back up and go forth. Sarah helps us to do exactly this as she shows us how to keep growing and building our lives while keeping our well-being in mind.

It does not matter if you have just got a new room or if you have lived there for a while, sometimes it is nice to decorate or to redecorate. We all know from experience that as a student you do not have an infinite amount of money to spend. This can be an obstacle in making your room look just the way you want it to. However, there are some inexpensive and easy tricks to make your room look a bit more cosy. Keep reading for some tips and ideas! • Shanna de Caluwé

New Room Decoration

For some nice floral decoration you can easily find fake or real flowers in plenty of stores. A nice place to find affordable fake flowers is for example Kwantum. In Nijmegen, this store is located near station Dukenburg. Here, you can also find many other interior stores where you can take a look. For real flowers, they often have some on offer at Lidl. You can put these flowers in a vase, but you can also opt for a more abstract and also cheaper version: an empty bottle. This bottle can be anything. I have a Hendrick’s gin bottle because they look nice and stylish. Just put your flowers in it and call it a day! Here, I’ve put my bottle with flowers on a little table, with some other decorative things like candles and a small box of crystals. I am not be the only one who takes postcards and prints from everywhere I go, right? You buythem, but never really do anything with them. A nice idea is to hang them up in some sort of pattern if you have any empty space on the wall. You can hang them up a bit messily or nice and neat. Just use a little bit of “kneedgum”, which is a type of sticky thing that does not leave marks, or double sided tape so you don’t damage the wall.I put up a few big cards and just hung the smaller ones around them in a semi-neat pattern. Next to these smaller postcards, I also have a few bigger prints lying around. Some of them are on cloth and some of them on thicker paper. Because they are a bit more special than the an ordinary postcard, I decided to put them in frameless picture frames. I chose frameless because they are very cheap and also take nothing away from the print. I bought mine at a hardware store called Hornbach. The prices range from €0,55 (!) for the smallest size and €15,95 for the biggest size, which is not a lot of money if you ask me. You can order these on their web shop and the delivery takes about 2-3 days. I paired these frameless frames with a few other hanging decorations to make it look more filled in and complete.

KNUS PETS ew

Pets quickly become like family. They are impossible not to love. Deciding to get a pet is the start of something new, but what goes into this? I myself have had a hamster called Chucky for over a year now. You can see why he is called this way just by his appearance: little red eyes that make him looklike a cute demon. Because I have had him for a while now, I thought it would be a good idea to ask somebody, who has recently, got new pets about how one can prepare for this. Our fellow student Maan, who has two new friends , kindly answered my questions.

Q: Please shortly introduce your pet(s). Maan: I have two pet rats named Apollo and Jupiter. Apollo is black with a white belly and Jupiter is agouti. They are brothers. Q: Why did you decide you wanted to get a new pet, or in this case two? Maan: A girl I follow on Instagram (@ratmomz) got me interested at first. After months of thinking and waiting, I finally felt like I had enough time and money to get pets myself. I got two because rats are social animals and should never be kept alone. Q: What did you do to prepare before they arrived?

Maan with Apollo and Jupiter

Maan: I read everything on rat care there is to know, like their daily needs and minimum cage size. I adopted them from a small rattery (rat breeder) in Boxmeer. I do not support buying animals in pet stores, since they do not look at genetics and treat pets badly. Buying or “saving” one will only increase the demand, so look for a breeder who knows what they are doing. Q: What is something “new” that surprised you about owning rats? Maan: The smell. They are very clean animals, but they scent mark (a.k.a. pee on) everything, including me (even though they are potty trained).

The tutor is usually a Master or PhD student of Radboud University, therefore, they definitely have numerous writing experiences. For me, I got a tutor who was a Master student of a faculty of Law. However, in this case, you should exactly convey what you want to write about and explain him/her about your research because the tutor does not have the knowledge about your study as same as you are. Overview counsellors and advisers Radboud University offers professional services for the students who have private serious problems. They have student counsellor, student psychologist, study trainers, career officer, confidential advisor, and student pastor. Some of them require you to cost for help, thus, it could not relatively reach your expectation. + Dutch-English Committee There are students who are ready to help you, currently, most of them are senior students. Therefore, through the members, you can get advice or you can share your difficulties. You can contact them for things related from well-being to specific international problems like housing, insurance, jobs etc. The email-adres is: dec-knus@student.ru.nl Sometimes, It is better to share your difficulties with others rather than tolerating it alone. Around you, there are many people and options that could help your problems.

A break for a subconscious psychological test!

•Minsun Kang

Have you ever wondered about how you think subconsciously about yourself and your surroundings? Here are four little questions that you can immediately answer and the result will come after all questions. Do not think too much about the answers! Throughout these questions, you will face another version of yourself subconsciously! 1. You find a river while you are walking with an animal. If you should cross the river with the animal, how would you deal with this situation?

2. You are wandering on an abandoned island and suddenly a beast comes out from somewhere! What kind of a beast is it?

3. There are a cuboid and a ladder. What about their sizes? How are they placed?

4. If you met an alien, what would you say to it and how would you react?

Results: The animal means your future partner! The way you dealt with the situation indicates how you and your partner would go through a difficult situations together.

Your ideal type is embodied in the beast. On the island, away from society, something that you suddenly encountered, would have reminded you of the ideal type that you are instinctively pursuing.

The cuboid signifies you and the ladder - is your family. The size shows how important you see yourself and your family. Their location depicts the relationship between them.

This is the situation in which you meet your ideal person! Some people say that the probability that you meet them is the same as that you will meet an alien. Nevertheless, how did you react?

Another new beginning is the concept of café Hubert, thought of by the brothers Gijs and Jop. It opened on september 14th and is hidden near the Goffertpark. The goal of these brothers is to make art and culture more accessible. When you enter the café, there’s a campfire and a lot of lights, but there’s also room for expositions, for recording music and most of all for experimenting with art. The goal of this place is to give people an opportunity to try out more things, and to connect musicians, designers and artists. The café also owns the Herman Brood bus; a bus painted by Herman Brood that busdrivers didn’t want to drive anymore. It is now used as part of the café. So.. If you feel like trying something art related out, sharing your work with others or if you just want to meet new people, give it a look! Opening Times Monday until wednesday: closed Thursday 4pm – 11pm Friday 4pm – 12pm Saturday 2pm – 12pm Sunday 2pm – 9pm
