In an age where everything old is new again, Cut Copy hit the mainstream in 2008 with their delightfully retro sounding second album, In Ghost Colours. “You hear things that take you off-guard or sound cool or out-of-context, and it’s that aspect that we try to bring to what we make.”

Pegged as a “suite of futuristic visions built upon primal rhythm tracks”, Zonoscope’s first single, “Take Me Over”, perfectly encapsulates the almost-tropical vibe of the album. Whitford runs through the exotic arsenal of percussion that they gathered to give their tracks that infectious sultry propulsion, explaining that they used “all sorts of strange bongos, rototoms, congas, 10 kinds of shaker, 15 different cowbells; anything and everything”. Even wine bottles filled with different amounts of water make an appearance.

“All the way along we had this weird vision of a tropical, jungle, tribal sound,” he says.

“It was a place or an idea that we wanted to reach with some of the songwriting; to explore a looping hypnotic trance, and revise the whole palette of what Cut Copy was about.”

PLANET PIT: PITBULL (MARCH 22) Akon, Skakira and Enrique Iglesias all lend their vocals to Pitbull’s sixth studio album, while David Guettra, Pharrell and Rodney Jerkins all lay down beats on the album.

Pit has said that he wants every song on the album to be a hit single, and the lead track, “Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor)” featuring T-Pain is a good start. Meanwhile, Pit has big plans of touring South America with the Black Eyed Peas and linking with Iglesias for a segment of his world tour.

EAT, PRAY, LOVE (FEBRUARY 9) Hollywood A-lister Julia Roberts returns to the big screen in Eat, Pray, Love, the movie adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling novel of the same name.

After the breakdown of her marriage, Liz embarks on a brief but passionate affair with a young actor (James Franco), which makes her realise she’s never actually been single. Having never taken the time to be alonr and to get to know herself,

she takes off overseas on a spiritual journey where she eats (Italy), prays (India) and ultimately falls in love (Indonesia) – and along the way, discovers what she was really missing in her life.

FARGO (FEBRUARY 23) The Cohen brothers have a knack for creating off-beat but highly addictive moods in their films, and Fargo is an excellent testament to their skill in crafting tense atmospheres tinged with black comedy. Frances McDormand is endearing as pregnant cop Marge Gunderson, who seems somewhat naïve at first glance. But we soon find her to be a determined, hardnosed detective as she trails two hired goons who go on a murderous spree after a botched kidnapping.

THE CROW (OUT NOW) This 1994 action thriller is the original dark and moody comic book adaptation before the genre came into vogue. Brandon Lee plays Eric Draven, a rock musician who is revived form the dead to avenge his own murder and that of his fiancée. Tragically, Lee was killed on-set eight days before filming wrapped when a dummy bullet that had become lodged in one of the prop guns was fired into his stomach by a blank cartridge. Brandon’s father, Bruce Lee, also died under controversial circumstances after collapsing on the set of his final film, Enter the Dragon.

THE TWILIGHT ZONE: THE ORIGINAL SERIES, SEASON 2 (MARCH 9) In a dimension beyond the understanding of man, mysterious forces gather to torment our world with the unexplainable. The series that essentially created what we know today as science fiction was first broadcast in 1959, and is here remastered from the original camera negatives to create an authentic yet much improved screen experience.

It presents stories of the bizarre and unexplained that are blended with humour, and often end with a brilliantly unexpected twist.

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS (OUT NOW) Michael Douglas plays Wall Street whiz Gordon Gekko, who is released from prison after serving time for his financial crimes during the greed-is-good 1980s. He is pleased to find a new economic climate that’s geared towards maximising corporate profit and goes to work as scheming mentor to young trader Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf). Moore is out for revenge against the man who brought down his former employer, and Gekko is just the man to help him achieve the corporate skullduggery he craves.

SAW VII 3D (MARCH 23) If there’s one movie that you don’t want to see in 3D, it’s Saw VII. That is unless of course you are a horror movie freak who is very hard to shock, because that’s what this movie is – completely shocking. Possibly the final chapter in the series, it focuses on a man who claims to be a Jigsaw survivor as he embarks on a book tour about his harrowing experience. However, a Jigsaw copy cat resents his rising celebrity and drags him into a real-life game of murderous cat-and-mouse.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK (MARCH 2) This portrait of the man who founded Facebook is unflinching in its portrayal of him as at once brilliant prophet and socially undeveloped nark. Mark Zuckerberg, played here by the talented Jesse Eisenberg, made billions from his social media invention while still at university, but is drawn into an extended legal battle as the allegedly discarded people who contributed to the project in its early days battle for a piece of the pie. Love him or hate him, there is little doubt that he changed the world.

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE 3D (MARCH 2) This is the fourth installment of the successful video adaptation, and the first presented in stunning 3D. Milla Jovovich plays Alice, who is on the search for survivors of the T-virus outbreak that has devastated Los Angeles.

After rescuing the remaining victims of the virus, they team up for an arse-kicking extravaganza against Albert Wesker and his evil Umbrella Corporation.

The action sequences are well beyond par and are incredibly vibrant and blurfree in 3D grandeur.

THE OFFICIAL 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP FILM IN 3D (FEBRUARY 16) If you thought the greatest game of all was exciting in two dimensions, try watching it in 3D. This presentation captures just over an hour of highlights from the key games from the 2010 South African tournament. The fieldlevel shots are particularly brilliant in 3D and watching highlights such as Brazil’s first goal against North Korea soar into the net really showcases how incredible this format can be. The only drawback is the return of the vuvuzela as you are drawn into the big-stadium atmosphere in incredible detail.

Dustin Hoffman is at the absolute height of his powers as autistic Raymond, while Tom Cruise cemented his reputation with an excellent performance as Raymond’s greedy brother Charlie Babbitt in this 1988 classic. When Babbitt discovers that his estranged father has passed away and bequeathed his vast fortune to Babbit’s autistic older brother, he busts Raymond out of the institution that cares for him with the intention of stealing the fortune back. Babbit, however, doesn’t count on falling in love with his uniquely brilliant brother. This film deservedly won four Oscars – find out why. (FEBRUARY 23)

LITTLEBIGPLANET 2 PS3 With its amazing graphics, four player co-op platform action and mind-blowing level editing capabilities, the original LittleBigPlanet and its star, Sack Boy, were a sensation on the PlayStation 3. Foregoing traditional platform gameplay to provide a world that focuses on real physics - where you could use things like momentum, weight and physical properties (like a sponge being squishy) to solve the puzzles - it was

unique and fun. This sequel ramps up that element of the gameplay, as well as the visual experience.

The real improvements are in the level editing component: now rather than just making your own platforming experience, you are given the tools to completely change the genre, how the AI behaves, and even the controls.

The legendary creators of Street Fighter, Capcom, take all their best characters in their large range of games and pit them against the superheroes from the Marvel universe. The oldschool 2D gameplay makes it easily accessible, while the ability to tag in two additional fighters during combat adds a lot of tactical depth. Fighter of the year for sure!

TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED 2 PS3, 360, WII If you are really into your cars, then this is an unmissable experience.

You can drive some of the greatest cars in the world around two completely recreated (using satellite imagery) islands: Ibiza, Spain and Oahu, Hawaii.

You’re challenged in a host of different race experiences, online and offline, as you build up your money and garage of cars.

The visuals are amazing, too.

MARIO VS. DONKEY KONG: MINI-LAND MAYHEM! DS Reminiscent of the old Lemmings games, you are tasked with guiding an army of little Mario’s who are in perpetual motion across obstacle-filled worlds in pursuit of the princessstealing Donkey Kong. The action starts off simply enough, but as you progress you unlock more tricks, items and moves that you need to use smartly and with haste to solve each map.

KIRBY’S EPIC YARN WII Nintendo are so brilliant at thinking of new and inventive ways to rejuvenate the old-school side-scrolling platformer, and Kirby’s Epic Yarn is their latest such offering.

By turning everything in the world to Yarn, including Kirby, they not only provide an astonishing visual spectacle, but awesome gameplay as our hero can change himself in all kinds of shapes, from a UFO to a surfing penguin and everything in-between.

BULLETSTORM PC, PS3, 360 From the same minds behind Gears of War, BulletStorm stars exiled and drunk space pirate Grayson Hunt, fighting for survival after crashlanding on a planet filled with flesheating mutants. An FPS at heart, everything about this game is over-the-top. Crazy environments, shocking dialogue, amazing weapons and some of the coolest and most addictive combat ever.

KINGDOM HEARTS RE:CODED DS Blending the magic of Disney with the RPG talents of Final Fantasy, developer Square Enix has been a match made in heaven for gamers. This latest adventure begins when Jiminy Cricket discovers a secret message in the journal that recounts the original game’s adventure.

King Mickey wants to learn more, but as they delve into the secret, they get sucked back into Sora’s previous journey, only twisted beyond recognition. One for the kids!

[GADGETS] UDRAW BE CREATIVE The amazing success of the Nintendo Wii (85 million units and counting) has seen it besieged by a number of peripheral, most of which aren’t worth the box they’re packaged in. This latest effort from THQ, however, is definitely worth a second glance.

The device is like a giant touchscreen,that has a stylus attached to it, which allows you to interact with the world on the screen directly. It comes with a built-in game called uDraw

X-MINI MAX II TRAVEL LOUD Aren’t these things amazingly cute? When you first get your hands on them they are almost like an egg in shape. The two halves are held together by magnets, and they squeeze down into themselves - the

It provides the tools of an artist different colours, brushes, surface types and more allowing you to create your own visual masterpieces or try the challenges that it provides you. More games are set to be released in the near future that use the peripheral, including Pictionary, and minigame actioner Doods Big Adventure. If you’re looking to give your Wii a new lease of life, this could be the trick.

KOBO WIRELESS EREADER 21ST CENTURY BOOKS We all know how fast the Amazon jungle is shrinking, which makes the era of the digital novel more than just about ease of use.

With its slim design and 6” screen, the Kobo Wireless Reader is no doubt smaller and easier to carry around than most descent sized novels. This latest release from Kobo offers some key advantages over its predecessor. It is wireless, which means you can now shop online and buy books directly, downloading them to the device. Great if you’re on the road, even if the interface is a little archaic compared to

shopping on your PC. The processor speed has also been greatly increased, making it far faster to load up a book, and even to just flick between pages. We love how simple and easy this device is to use, and it comes with 100 classic books installed. That is enough alone for those who love to read to fork over its $179 asking price.

DELL INSPIRON ONE 2310 ALL-IN-ONE AND ONE-INALL No doubt you would have seen one of the sexy All-in-One iMacs: one big delicious screen with all the nuts & bolts built in behind it. To date the PC has struggled to match it for design and performance, but Dell’s Inspiron One 2310 gives it a good crack. For starters it looks a treat, from its bevelled screen to its cute wireless keyboard and mouse. You’ll want these

too, as while the monitor is a multi-touch screen it isn’t quite as responsive as we’d like: that is in part due to Windows 7 struggling in this area. Still, the machine does come with a Bluray drive and more than acceptable specs (Intel

Core i5 M460 2.53GHz, 6GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and a 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5470 graphics adapter although the specs are customisable) that’ll handle most of what you throw at it. It’s PC flexibility, in a Mac design.

BANG & OLUFSEN BEOSOUND 8 EERIE DESIGNS There’s certainly a lot of iPod docks out there, which isn’t much use if you have an iPad, is it? That is what the engineers over at Bang & Olufsen have noticed, so they’ve come up with this nifty and unique looking device. It features a

design capable of holding iPods, iPhones and the iPad, two 70w speakers (the colours of which are interchangeable) and it stands nearly upright, which means that unlike other docks that lean at an angle, the sound is blasted out at you. It also has a nifty remote, a headphone

jack and a USB port that allows you to connect it directly to your PC. The sound quality is quite excellent too, even if it does get a little strained when turned up to max.

But such sophisticated design doesn’t come cheap, and at $1,500, it is one of the most expensive docks in existence.
