GUESS WHAT? Mr Potato Head wasn’t a toy created for the Toy Story series. It’s actually been around for ages, with the OG version hitting shelves all the way back in 1952.

Inside a magical book is the last place you might expect to find a heroic dinosaur sporting a flashy new art style, but Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (Switch 2) goes full sketchy stop motion. It looks gorgeous, too! Instead of sprinting to a finish line, you wander through hand drawn worlds, poking at creatures to see what weird tricks they can do. Some help flowers bloom, others freeze enemies or crack rocks, and every discovery gets scribbled into the titular book like a science diary.

It’s slower, smarter and way more curious than Yoshi’s usual adventures: a cosy puzzle safari in paper form.

Brick By Brick, Gotham Goes Boom The weirdest thing about Gotham these days is how many Batmen you bump into.

That is the whole joke behind Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (PS5, XSX, Switch 2, PC), a giant mash up of every version of the Caped Crusader ever.

One minute you are gliding over rooftops, the next you are swapping gadgets with Commissioner Gordon while bricks explode everywhere.

The open world is huge, the Batwing is dangerously fun, and two player co-op turns every mission into a tag team of chaos. It is the biggest and deepest Lego Batman glow up yet.

Pottery Panic Incoming You know a game is unhinged when the first thing you do is possess a vase. That is the starting point of Kiln (XSX, PC, PS5), a pottery-onpottery battle arena where your handcrafted creation – yes, you mould your own pottery! - becomes your fighter. Design matters, too.

Chunky pots carry loads of water but move like they are stuck in glue, while tiny eggcups zip through gaps but shatter instantly.

Eight players smash, roll and ground pound across the map trying to dunk water into the enemy kiln three times. Sculpting your own pottery is the funniest part, especially when your masterpiece looks like a disaster.

Lean In, Speed Freaks The trick to MotoGP 26 (PC, PS5, XSX, Switch 1 and 2) is realising the bike is not the star. Your rider is.

New rider- based physics mean you shift your body and the bike follows, which makes every corner feel like a balancing act in this proper racing simulation.

Tokyo Drift Dreams Come True The wildest thing about Japan in Forza Horizon 6 (PC, XSX) is how it refuses to sit still. One moment you are tearing through neon streets that glow like a giant arcade cabinet, later you are carving lines across snowy walls in the Tateyama Corridor or blasting through docks built for sideways sliding. More than 550 cars launch on day one and every single one handles differently, so swapping rides feels like changing superpowers.

Street races, Touge battles, drift zones, drag strips and danger signs fill the map. Horizon finally found a way to out crazy itself.

Minecraft Madness: Three Big Drops Minecraft is somehow getting even busier. The headline news is Minecraft Dungeons II (XSX, PS5, Switch 1/2, PC), a new action RPG sequel where every monster is smarter, meaner and ready to gang up on you, and four player co-op is confirmed. Away from the screen, Minecraft World is opening at a UK theme park in 2027, with giant blocky mountains, redstone puzzles you solve with your hands and the first ever Minecraft rollercoaster. Back in the main game, Tiny Takeover and Chaos Cubed content drops add baby mob chaos, sulphur caves and a sulphur cube that literally eats blocks.

Real Life Roblox? Yep, It’s Happening The weirdest part about the future is that Roblox might look more real than your backyard. That is the promise behind Roblox Reality, a new AI powered upgrade that mixes the normal Roblox Game Engine with a Video World Model that paints everything with photorealistic detail.

Dust clouds, shiny puddles, sparks, leaves, reflections, even raindrops sliding down windows all get boosted. The best part is that it still plays like Roblox, with proper physics and multiplayer chaos. Early demos show huge jumps in quality, and creators can toggle it on or off in Studio when it launches later this year.

Switch to Indie The latest Switch 2 indie showcase felt like someone opened up the crazy house and let all the developers out. There’s the chaos of Denshattack (Switch 2), a train skating (you read that right!) game where you grind and flip across highspeed tracks. Heave Ho 2 brings stretchy co-op silliness, Moonlighter 2 deepsen its shopkeeper meets dungeon crawling and Woodo delivers calm wooden dioramas you build piece by piece. Things ramp up with Blighted, a psychedelic western, and Rotwood, a stylish monster brawler. Minishoot Adventures, Deadzone: Rogue and My Little Puppy round out a great lineup with action, challenge and heart.

Does Mario Find a Galaxy of Greatness?

You barely sit down before the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie starts throwing gorgeous planets at your eyeballs. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Rosalina rocket between colourful worlds, trading jokes and fireballs with Bowser Jr. while everything explodes in bright colours. The animation is slick, the music hits hard and there is always some new setpiece crashing into view. The story is weak for sure – don’t expect to get in touch with your emotions but the fun never really slows down.

It is loud, fast and packed with fan favourites, which makes it an easy win for most Mario fans.

VR Gets Pricier, But Wilder Your wallet might flinch at this news. Prices for the Meta Quest 3S 128GB ($569) ($569), Quest 3S 256GB ($729) and Quest 3 ($969) just jumped in Australia thanks to higher production costs. The upside is a wave of new VR chaos. Payday: Aces High brings four-player heists, Roboquest VR turns a fast roguelite shooter into a co-op blast,, TMNT: Empire City lets blast you brawl as the Turtles, and Soul Protocol mixes physics with tactical sci fi gunfights.

Expensive month, sure, but at least the action looks stacked.

New Games, New Dates, New Chaos Every month in gaming feels like it is on news fast forward! Splatoon Raiders (Switch 2) has locked in a July 22 release date, while Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sails onto modern consoles this July. Fighters get a boost with Kunimitsu joining Tekken 8, and Invincible VS added Allen the Alien and Conquest to its roster. Strategy fans can grab the ArtyFacts DLC for Two Point Museum, and bargain hunters should check out Thick as Thieves, a cool, cheap PC stealth game. On Switch 2, MMORPG classic FFXIV is getting a port, alongside indie gems Stray, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Tunic and Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

Roblox’s spooky side game 99 Nights in the Forest is becoming a movie, while Jumanji: Open World brings game characters into real world Christmas chaos. Shooters are going cinematic too, with a Call of Duty movie dated for June 30, 2028, and a Battlefield film starring Michael B. Jordan also in the works. Elsewhere PowerWash Simulator 2 now lets you clean Adventure Time locations and soon, even classic Star Wars ships.

A Keyboard Aliens Might Use Some gadgets look futuristic; this one looks like it arrived from another galaxy. The Gravastar Mercury V60 Pro is a compact wired keyboard built from solid aluminium, loaded with 16 zones of RGB lighting and magnetic Hall effect switches that make every key feel smooth and fast. OUR RESIDENT 10-YEAR-OLD GAMES JOURNALIST TELLS IT LIKE IT IS

Pokémon Champions is such a fun game, and I wanted to explain how everything works so other players know what to do. The main thing you’ll probably try first is Battle mode, where you choose the type of battle you want and verse random people online. There are Ranked Battles, where you start at Poké Ball tier and try to climb all the way up to Champ tier, which is the best. I like Ranked the most because you never know who you’ll get. There are also Private Battles, where you make a room and verse your friends, and Online Competitions, where you can win prizes.

You can check all your results in Battle Data and keep every Pokémon you catch in your Box. One of my favourite parts is Recruit Pokémon, where every 22 hours you get to recruit a new Pokémon using the Victory Points (VP) you earn from playing. You can even skip the timer with Quick Coupons or return Pokémon you don’t want.

There’s also Training, Missions,, and a Shop where you spend VP on clothes, items, poses, music and more to customise the experience.

The Season Battle Pass gives you rewards as you level-up, but you must pay for it. The rest of the game is free, which is cool.

I think I will keep playing this game, as it’s so much fun battling and recruiting new Pokémon, even if that’s a bit grindy. Because underneath, Pokémon Champions is just a really good game.

Full Speed A SHE’S ONLY 13 BUT SYDNEY-BASED ARCHER JASMINE BULL ALREADY HAS OLYMPIC DREAMS. K-Zone: How did you get into archery?

Jasmine: My dad and I thought it would be interesting to do an archery ‘come and try’ session. I found I enjoyed it, so we joined the archery club and went from there.

Biggest wins: Several national and state records, as well as multiple national and international medals but the one that means the most to Jasmine is winning at the Trans Tasman shoot in New Zealand in 2025.

Favourite place to shoot: Her home club at the Sydney Olympic Park Archery field.

Favourite event type: Target shoots, particularly 720 rounds – 72 arrows at one distance.

Best scores: 72 arrow shoot 30m – 693 out of 720 40m – 684 out of 720 90 arrow shoot at three distances (30 arrows at each distance) 40m, 30m, and 20m – 845 out of 900 50m, 40m, and 30m – 837 out of 900 Field shoot (3 arrows shot at each of 24 targets, all at varying distances and sizes) 352 out of 432 at yellow peg 337 out of 432 at blue peg (longer distances) Indoor shoot WA: 522 out of 600

K-Zone: Who are your biggest inspirations in archery?

Jasmine: My biggest inspirations are the Olympians and coaches we have at the club. They’ve worked hard to be good at what they do, whether it’s shooting or teaching others how to shoot, and I find that inspiring.

K-Zone: How would you

describe your archery style?

Jasmine: My shooting type is Olympic Recurve. These are the longer bows with the stabiliser rods on the front and fitted with a sight.

K-Zone: What type of different archery shooting styles are there in archery?

Jasmine: There are four main types of shooting, which are longbow – one single piece and no sights; barebow recurve – take-down bow but no sights; Olympic recurve – sights and stabilisers fitted to a takedown bow, and compound – magnified sights, cam wheels and release aid. There are several other styles, such as barebow compound and horse bow.

Ahead K-Zone: How do you prepare for a big event?

Jasmine: I train more in the days leading up to the event, I make sure that I am getting enough sleep and take care not to injure myself. It’s a balance to train enough without shooting too much and getting injured or being over-tired on the day. I also read between ends at the shoot to keep mentally focused.

K-Zone: What’s the next big event you’re preparing for?

Jasmine: The NSW State Short Course championships in July – come and watch at Sydney Olympic Park Archery!

K-Zone: What are your archery ambitions?

Jasmine: I hope to represent Australia at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
