EJAE, the singing voice behind Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters, totally slays! Her song Golden (which she co-wrote as well as sings) has won so many awards - but did you know she’s also a Swiftie?

We were going to my cousin’s wedding, and my mum let me wear a long, fancy dress and get my hair done. I felt like a celebrity and couldn’t wait to get there! When we arrived, my dad dropped us off at the entrance, and I was excited for everyone to see how nice I looked. But as I got out, I didn’t notice that part of my long dress got caught in the car door. My dad was about to drive off, so my mum started yelling at him to wait while I got my dress free. Everyone turned to look, and I was so embarrassed!

For my birthday, my Aunty treated me to my first pedicure. I’d been wanting one for ages, so I was super excited! At first, it was amazing, and I loved having my feet pampered. But then the lady started scrubbing the soles of my feet - it tickled so much that I kicked my leg out… and accidentally hit her on the chin! It was so embarrassing!
NAOMI, 11, VIC

I was at the shops with my mum while she was trying on bras. She sent me out to grab some different sizes, so I went and got them. As I was walking back to the change rooms, a boy from my school walked past with his mum and saw me. He didn’t say anything then, but on Monday at school, when I walked past him and his friends, they started laughing and called me “Bra Girl”! I was so embarrassed that I avoided them for the rest of the day. Boys sometimes act so dumb.

“The first y ear I started hockey I didn’t know how to skate so I got on the ice with all of the hockey players and we were doing drills where we had to go backwards in figure eights. And I could not skate, and I just kept falling on my butt and it was embarrassing.” SHAWN

The teacher was talking in assembly, but I was whispering at the back of the hall, so I didn’t hear her say that the next person who spoke had to stand next to her with their hands on their head. Suddenly, she yelled my name and told me to come up. I had to stand there with my hands on my head for the rest of the assembly while every one laughed at me. It was so embarrassing - the worst ever!

My family was out to dinner, sitting in a booth, and I was on the inside. Halfway through, I needed to go to the toilet. My mum and brother got up to let me out, but as I slid out, I accidentally pulled the paper tablecloth with me! To my horror, all the plates on my side of the table fell onto the bench and floor, and one even smashed. I was so shocked and embarrassed that I just ran to the toilet and let my family sort it out. Mum eventually had to come and get me as I was too embarrassed to go back.
EMILY, 12, NSW
My bestie had a bowling party for her 12th birthday and invited boy s and girls. It was my first boy /girl party , so I was a bit nervous. When it was my turn to bowl, I had a really heavy ball. As soon as I let go, I slipped and fell right on my bum! It was so embarrassing!

IF YOU’VE BEEN SINGING ALONG TO KPOP DEMON HUNTERS, YOU’VE PROBABLY HEARD EJAE! SHE’S THE TALENTED SONGWRITER AND SINGING VOICE OF THE FEARLESS DEMON-HUNTING K-POP LEADER RUMI. FROM CHASING HER OWN K-POP DREAMS TO CREATING HITS LIKE GOLDEN, EJAE SHOWS THAT SOMETIMES A DIFFERENT PATH CAN LEAD TO SOMETHING EVEN BIGGER - AND MAGICAL!
EJAE once dreamed of becoming a K-pop idol. She spent 10 years training with a famous company, hoping to debut as a singer - but it didn’t happen. Instead of giving up, she found another way to make music… and it led her to KPop Demon Hunters! She joined the movie very early on (back in 2020), working with composer Daniel Rojas on some of the first songs for the film. Since she recorded many of the early demo tracks, the directors later asked her to be the singing voice of the main character, Rumi. “Having been part of the project from the start, I felt really connected to her,” EJAE said.

“As a former K-pop trainee, I understood her drive to be perfect and chase her dreams.”

One of the biggest songs in the film is, of course, Golden, which EJAE helped write. In the story, the song shows the struggles each character goes through while reminding them to never give up. “It’s like Rumi giving herself a pep talk - telling herself not to give up and that she can reach her dreams,”

To record the song, EJAE had to hit some super high notes to show off Rumi’s powerful voice. The mix of big emotions and amazing singing is one reason the song has become such a hit with fans - and why it has won major awards, including a Grammy Award and, more recently, an Academy Award!

Don’t pack away your light sticks just yet KPop Demon Hunters is officially getting a sequel! After smashing records and becoming Netflix’s most-watched film of all time, the animated hit is returning for another adventure starring the fierce demon-hunting K-pop group HUNTR/X. The sequel will once again be directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the creative duo behind the original film. “I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Maggie said. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.” While there’s no official release date yet, one thing is clear: the world of HUNTR/X is only getting bigger.

Like so many fans around the world, EJAE is a proud Swiftie! She recently met pop superstar Taylor Swift at a celebrity party and couldn’t stop praising her. “I’m a huge fan. I love her. She’s a genius,” EJAE said. “She’s lovely, so nice and so sweet and real. I learned a lot of advice and it was just so great.” EJAE also revealed that 1989 is her favourite Taylor album, with Style, Shake It Off, and Bad Blood topping her playlist. She even joked that Taylor could join the next KPop Demon Hunters project: “If you want, Taylor, you can come to KPop Demon Hunters and write some songs,” she said. Now that would be one seriously cool collaboration!

How exciting - your favourite star is coming to town! As soon as you hear the news, listen carefully or do a bit of research online to find out all the important details. Ask your mum or dad for permission, and make a note of the date, ticket price, and venue. Don’t forget to write down when tickets go on sale - you don’t want to miss out! Scoring tickets can be really tricky, so if you miss out, don’t worry! Keep an eye out for resale tickets, contests, or even other shows nearby - you might still get a chance to see your favourite star live.
Concert guidelines have changed over the years, so it’s important to follow the latest safety tips. Check the venue’s instructions before you go, listen carefully while you’re there, and look out for your friends. That way, you can stay safe and still have the best time singing, dancing, and enjoying the show!

It’s best to go with a friend or family member who’s just as excited as you about your favourite artist. Sharing the countdown to the concert makes it even more fun, and you’ll have someone to scream, dance, and sing along with. Try listening to all their albums and learning the lyrics beforehand - you’ll be ready to belt out every song together!
You don’t want to miss out on the main event, so make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the show. There will be lots of people heading to the same place as you, so expect a bit of traffic and some crowds. Plus, if you arrive early, you’ll be able to buy your merchandise before the line gets too long and check out the support act –you might discover some awesome new music!

Going to a concert is so much fun, you’ll want to remember the night forever! Avoid being let down by making sure you have your camera or device charged up fully before you leave home. The last thing you want is to run out of battery during the concert, and miss out on taking happy snaps of yourself and your pals enjoying the show!

essentials when you’re off to see a live act. Choose a bag with a long strap that can be worn across your body, and pack your camera, a hair elastic, a pen (just in case you get an autograph!), plus your purse and phone if you have one. Be sure to check the venue’s website beforehand to see what’s allowed - this way, you’ll have everything you need and won’t get stuck at the door!

While it would be a dream come true to score an autograph or a selfie with your favourite artist, it might not be as simple as it seems. There’s generally a lot of security around the performers at all times, but you can get lucky waiting at a side door or at the official tour bus for the band or singer to walk past after the show. Remember, meeting your idol would be the coolest thing ever, but you must listen carefully

If you’re seeing your favourite band or artist, think about your outfit! Comfort and style go hand in hand - wear closed shoes in case someone steps on your feet and clothes you can move around in easily. You could also wear an outfit that’s inspired by your fave star, decorate your own special tour shirt, or buy a band tee at the venue, which you can wear over your top.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN SO INSPIRED BY YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC STARS THAT YOU DREAMED OF A LITTLE FAME OF YOUR OWN? GOOD NEWS - IT MIGHT BE EASIER THAN YOU THINK! READ ON...
1. Find bandmates
Start by asking your friends and have them ask their friends as well. You never know who can play an instrument or loves to sing!
2. Determine a style
Now that you have your band together, it’s time to decide what kind of music you want to make. You can also decide who will sing, who will play instruments, and whether your band might include dance as part of the performance.
3. Come up with a band name
Now for the fun part! Pick a name that’s catchy, easy to say and easy to spell so people will remember it.
4. Grab some instruments
Don’t have instruments yet? Your school or a local music centre might be able to help. Do a little research and don’t be afraid to ask!
5. pick a rehearsal space
A garage or spare room works great! Make sure it’s free when you need it and not too noisy - your parents will thank you.
I think song writing is the ultimate form of being able to make anything that happens in your life productive.”
“There ARE therapeutic benefits to Wheneversongwriting. I’m feeling upset I go to the piano before i call a friend.OLIVIARODRIGO

The more you practise, the better you’ll get! Start with songs you know and love - maybe channel your inner Blackpink or Olivia Rodrigo. The more you play, the more your skills grow and the easier it gets to learn your own songs.
7. Write your own songs
You can write about anything! Start by jotting down the first ideas that pop into your head. Later, try picking a theme for a song. Aim to have around 10 original songs ready to perform live.
8. Spread the word
Tell your friends at school or start a YouTube channel. The more people know about your band, the more fans you could get - and maybe even invites to play at parties!
9. Record a demo
10. Have fun
Remember, the most important part

When you’re ready to play gigs, record yourself! Share your songs on a USB or online - people might love your music enough to book you. Rock on!
“I’ve always just made music that I hopefully would want to listen to. I love songwriting and lyrics - that’s the most important part to me.”
OLIVIA.DEAN
“I really couldn’t picture a world without music. It would be quite boring.”

Great friendships are built on kindness, trust and fun.

EARTH DAY IS CELEBRATED EVERY YEAR ON APRIL 22 AND IT’S ALL ABOUT PROTECTING OUR PLANET AND THE INCREDIBLE ANIMALS, OCEANS AND PEOPLE WHO LIVE ON IT. THE FIRST EARTH DAY TOOK PLACE WAY BACK IN 1970, AND TODAY MORE THAN ONE BILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD TAKE PART - MAKING IT ONE OF THE BIGGEST ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENTS EVER. BUT HERE’S THE BEST PART: YOU DON’T NEED TO BE AN EXPERT OR A SUPERHERO TO HELP THE EARTH. THE SMALL CHOICES YOU MAKE EVERY DAY CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Our planet does a lot for us - it gives us fresh air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat and places to explore. But pollution, waste and climate change are putting pressure on the Earth. Earth Day is a reminder to pause, learn and take action. It’s not about being perfect - it’s about doing something.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR WHOLE LIFE OVERNIGHT. TRY STARTING WITH ONE OF THESE:
Ditch single-use plastics Swap plastic bottles and straws for reusable ones.
2. Power down
Turn off lights, TVs and chargers when you’re not using them.
3. Love your leftovers
Food waste creates harmful gases, so only take what you know you'll eat.
DID YOU KNOW?
It is estimated that 180 million plastic bags enter the Australian environment ever year despite lightweight plastic bags being banned!
4 Get thrifty
Op-shopping, swapping clothes with friends or re-wearing outfits is eco-cool.
5 Pick up rubbish
Even five minutes of clean-up at the park or beach is helpful.

DID YOU KNOW?

Planting native trees helps remove pollution from the air.
THIS EARTH DAY, PICK ONE ECO-FRIENDLY HABIT TO TRY FOR A WEEK:
Use a reusable bottle Walk or ride instead of getting a lift
Say no to plastic cutlery and straws
■ Start a mini recycling station at home
ALL AROUND THE WORLD, KIDS JUST LIKE YOU ARE STEPPING UP FOR THE PLANET!
WE CAUGHT UP WITH AUSSIE TEEN PHOEBE, WHO ROLLED UP HER SLEEVES FOR CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY AND HELPED MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN HER COMMUNITY. HERE’S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY ABOUT CARING FOR THE EARTH - AND WHY EVERY LITTLE ACTION COUNTS.
What made you decide to take part in Clean Up Australia Day?

“I’ve been helping out for about four years now, and it’s become something really important to me. Every year when I see how much rubbish builds up in our local area, it reminds me that small actions really do matter. I take part every year because I want to keep being part of something positive for my community.”
How does it feel seeing the difference you make in your local area?
Why do you think it’s important for kids to care about the environment?

■ Teach a friend one Earth fact
BONUS POINTS IF YOU TURN IT INTO A CHALLENGE WITH YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY!
DID YOU KNOW?
Recycling one aluminium can saves enough energy to power a TV for three hours!
“It honestly feels really rewarding. The area looked messy and kind of forgotten at the beginning, but after we finished it looked so much cleaner and nicer. It made me feel proud knowing that I helped make that change. It’s a great feeling to see a real difference and know that people walking past can enjoy a cleaner space because of what we did.”
What something unusual you found while cleaning up?
“I found a shopping trolley and an e-bike dumped near a creek. I didn’t expect to see something that big just left there. It made me realise how careless some people can be, but it also made me even more motivated to help clean up.”

“I think it’s really important because we’re the generation that will grow up dealing with the consequences of climate change and pollution. If we don’t care now, things will only get worse. Looking after the environment isn’t just an ‘adult problem’- it’s our future. Even small actions, like picking up rubbish or recycling properly, can make a big difference over time.”
What’s one tip you’d give other girls who want to help keep Australia clean?
“I would say just start small and don’t feel like you have to do something huge. Even bringing a reusable water bottle or joining a local clean-up makes a difference. Invite your friends and make it a little outing - it’s actually more fun when you do it together, and you can make a bigger impact as a group.”

There’s no doubt that Shar-Peis are super cute, but all those extra skin folds can lead to skin problems. If your dad ever lets you get one, it’s a good idea to ask your local vet for advice on how to care for their skin and prevent issues. Shar-Peis also have a strong, dominant temperament, so they’ll need training from an early age. With the right care and training, a Shar-Pei can be a loving and loyal friend!

Take the quiz to find your red-face rating!
YOU SPLIT YOUR PANTS WHILE SHOPPING AND EVERYONE SEES YOUR FLORAL UNDIES. YOU:
l Go bright red, start to cry, then run to the toilets and refuse to come out.
n Feel totally embarrassed but simply tie your jacket around your waist.
WHEN YOU’VE DONE SOMETHING TOTALLY SILLY, YOU:
s Tell everyone because it’s really funny.
l Keep it hush-hush – how embarrassing.
n Only tell the friends and family you know will laugh with you, not at you.
s Blush a little but actually feel pleased because now you have the perfect excuse to buy a new pair of pants.
WHICH EMBARRASSING SITUATION WOULD YOU PREFER HAPPEN TO YOU?
s The wind blowing your skirt up – at least you’ll be wearing undies underneath.
WHEN THE TEACHER ASKS YOU A QUESTION YOU DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER TO, YOU:
s Take a wild guess - after all you might fluke it and say the right thing!
l Go red, shrug your shoulders, and mutter something under your breath.

n Having to give a big speech at assembly – you’d be able to occasionally look away from the audience.

n Simply say, “Sorry, I’m not sure of the answer to that question.”
l Getting toilet paper stuck on your shoe – as if anyone would look at your feet!
WHEN YOU READ ABOUT CELEBRITIES’ EMBARRASSING MOMENTS, YOU THINK:
n I’m glad that didn’t happen to me.
s That’s not embarrassing at all.
l How can these people ever show their faces in public again?!
Hey there, Miss Confident! There isn’t much that makes you blush. You’re cool enough to know embarrassing things happen to everyone, so it’s best to just laugh and move on. Keep smiling, girl!

YOU’RE AT A PARTY WITH YOUR PALS AND YOUR FAVOURITE SONG COMES ON, YOU:
l Enjoy the song from where you’re sitting ‘cause there’s no way you’ll dance in a room full of people.

n Head to the dance floor, but only if a few of your pals come with you to dance. Squeal loudly, then make a mad dash for the dance floor. You’ll be dancing, jumping and singing all night long!

Although blush moments make your cheeks turn bright red, you try not to let awkward situations get you down. You’re not always easygoing, but you know it’s usually not a big deal. Giggling with your closest friends is the best way to chill out.
Do you get red cheeks nearly all the time? If little things make you feel super embarrassed, you might be taking life a bit too seriously. Try to relax and find the funny side of your “Whoa!” momentsyou’ll probably realise it wasn’t as bad as you first thought.
