UJ Local Committee projects recap

enough momentum to reach more local committees. The OCs’ main principal was the belief that a doctor must be human above all.

By Farah Bani Hani Jordan’s first faculty of medicine was founded at the University of Jordan in 1971, and ever since it has not failed to bring out the best in its students, proving itself to be one of the leading schools of medicine in the region. The reason behind this continuous success lies in the fact that it has built a community of students and staff alike, who are fueled by a sense of security. Whether it be the support students receive for their innovation, or the emphasize on extra curricular programs that have become as essential as curricular programs for the development of students and so, society. This vision has made it possible for the UJ-LC to join the IFMSA global community a decade ago. This recap will only look at a fraction of a vast archive of projects this local committee has been able to make possible, collaborating with the different divisions of IFMSA-JO. This last term definitely stands out since the cooperation between the standing committees has been monumental, and so an assortment of projects have

been chosen to serve a multitude of areas and causes.

Doctor’s Runway Doctor’s Runway was a joint effort between SCOPH, SCORP and SCOME. The project was also later expanded to reach both HU-LC and MU-LC. Lead

In addition to that, an official training session was held, in cooperation with King Hussein Cancer Center, through which a certified doctor presented a better understanding of lung cancer; explaining what we can do to help eradicating it. The participants made pledges to ensure lasting results by fighting smoking, and to stand hand in hand with patients fighting lung cancer.

UJ Go Green The third project had SCORP stay true to the color of its symbol, with a message it has been spreading for years. This time it was for two causes, doubling the delightful outcome. Taking place between the 26th and 30th of March, the project brought people together initially to clear out the yard of the Jordan University Hospital, then to plant the whole area with a wide variety of flora, all for making a positive impact and to bring pleasure to the patients going in and out of the hospital.The project leader, Ala’a Farkouh, was able to bring together over 200 students in a period of five days to transform ©IFMSA-JO PUBLICATIONS SUPPORT DIVISION 2018

a neglected piece of land. The project has made both patients and our earth tremendously happy. Sticking with the local theme, all the supplies were provided by the hospital itself. The project was also supervised from within UJ by Dr. Mahmoud Abuabeeleh.

Shadow a Doctor

5 From awareness campaigns to planting flowers and drawing smiles on cancer patient’s faces. It truly was in no way a dull year for UJ-LC. The vast number of participating members and devoted leaders have familiarized us with their remarkable work, and leaving us expecting nothing less in 2018.

Project number four provided an early practical approach to pre-clinical students. Delivered through SCOME and under the leadership of Haneen Shahein, Shadow a Doctor was exclusively available for pre-clinical students. It gave 49 participants the opportunity to observe surgical procedures and medical rotations, and aimed to orient these students on the different elements and departments they will face upon the completion of their basic years. It also served to fill them with the energy and anticipation they will need to get through their basic years to go about their clinical years.

Due to the numbers applying for, and the structure of, such an interactive project, students were divided into two groups and were given two days each to shadow a doctor. Starting from the 10th and ending on the 13th of September, the organized fashion and the punctual timing this project demonstrated made sure it went down as a success held last term.

Mr.Omar Odat, another aspiring 3rd year student and current president of the LC. The aforementioned conference was the 3rd step, proceeded by 2 awareness steps in Al-Baqa’a and Zarqa. It was held at Al-Fanar Hotel on Friday, February 10th. It was 4 hours long and consisted of 2 main parts, lectures and discussion sessions.

Around a 100 participants attended, as well as 4 of the finest orthopedic surgeons in Jordan: Dr.Mahmoud Al-Odat, Dr.Akram Al-Shobaki, Dr.Fadi Roussan, and Dr.Osama Al-Odat. The conference was also attended by Mr.Talal Qaisi; IFMSA-Jo VPI 2016-2017, and Mr.Suhaib Thalji ;HULC President 2016-2017. It is fair to say: the campaign was a success on every level.

Such a year deserves nothing but a grand ending, with 2 new SCOPH projects that were held in November and December: “HULC’s Treasure Hunt” a SCOPE/SCOPH combined project and “HULC’s SCOPH: Chronic Kidneys Disease campaign”.

Chronic Kidney Disease The “Chronic Kidney Disease” project started in November 2017, when 9 motivated organizing committee members, under the leadership of Mr.Laith Abu Ghoush; a second year student, gathered to shed light on the sufferers of this debilitating disease. Their first step was a conference which was held on Saturday, the 2nd of December at Al-Fanar Hotel in Amman, and was attended by more than 50 participants in the presence of Dr.Zaid AbuGosh, Dr.AbdulNaser Shunaigat, and Dr.Issam Abu-Dahoud. The Conference was also attended by the Vice Dean of Medicine and a representative of the project's sponsor: Al-Rowad Fertilizers.

The Abortion Project

2017 Recap

MU-LC never fails to tackle serious and controversial topics but especially in this project. The focus was on one of the most debatable topics not only in Jordan but all over the globe.

By Amr Jarajreh MULC had great start of term with new projects and ideas, in the six standing committees that enriched the knowledge of its members, gave them many chances to connect with each other and on have fun.

MedX A revolutionary project that centered around the idea of helping medical students gain knowledge beyond what they take in lectures, because it’s as important as what students ordinarily learn.

MedX is organized by 11 educated students and is a SCOME project that focuses on providing more than 60 students not only with the essential medical skills, but giving them an opportunity to expand their horizons by allowing them to experience various parts of the medical practice, from shadowing doctors and pharmacists to trainings and workshops that covered extracurricular topics. The project was lead by Raid Hijazeen.

Over 150 medical students including 5 organizing committee members have been a part of the project’s steps that included debates, trainings and informative lecturers but that’s not all because the project still has more events and steps to achieve in the upcoming months.

A huge difference can be made through small steps, so the project gave an opportunity to motivated medical students and doctors from Mutah University in cooperation with SCORP to be a part of the ongoing change locally, in Al-Karak and nationally. With the help of all the already existing efforts to spread knowledge and deal with abortion, the project targeted different groups of people with different backgrounds, from medical students and doctors to women, married couples and the general public to come all together in a single voice to advocate for the right to have options. The project was lead by Teeba Mubaydeen.

The Amazing Kidneys The Amazing Kidneys Awareness and Screening Campaign aims to shed the light on one of the most serious health problems in the south of Jordan which is Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), also called chronic kidney failure, in other words, the gradual loss of kidney function.

The Campaign aims to increase awareness about chronic kidney diseases and related problems among the local community, in addition to screening for the predisposing and risk factors.

The project started with a training workshop about screening procedures and CKDs in the facility of medicine, then with over 40 well-trained members, the following step was a huge success in the University as The Amazing Kidneys team collaborated with the Faculty of Nutrition and Agriculture under the patronage of Dr. Thafer Al-Sarayreh, President of Mutah University to provide students with a full medical day on the 14th of November 2017. The volunteers were able to screen an estimate of 400 university students, staff members and locals with tests ranging from blood sugar, blood pressure to BMI, with the help of the project’s partnership with MedLabs.

7 The project didn’t stop there, as the team continued to spread awareness and knowledge, their next stop was Al-Aris Islamic Primary School in which they carried out an informative lecture about the human body and kidneys’ functions to over 25 students in that school. The project was lead by Taif Sarairah.

Discover The Castle Yet another fun project that MU-LC had in the past few months, aimed to raise funds for the LC and get the new student to know AL-Karak and one of its most recognized historical places which is the castle, 15 organizers worked tirelessly to plane the perfect trip around Al-Karak for over 100 new students in Mutah university.

The trip started from the faculty of medicine where students gathered, headed to the castle and then went to a local restaurant to dine, a group of activities were also prepared to entertain the participants including a talent show put together by the students. The project was lead by Nour Ed Deen Abu-Salameh.

YU Local Committee projects recap

Scrolling through the list of projects YU-LC has accomplished this last term, It may be difficult to believe that such a young faculty had only started accepting medical students about 4 years ago. The impressively extensive list is an amalgamation of compassion, innovation, and a clear vision to the future, all glued together with a sense of team work.

“The Nameless,” a SCOPH-SCORP collaboration, is considered YU-LC’s longest running project, having an astounding two year running period, starting in September 2015 and ended exactly 2 years after in September 2017.

The project was lead by Ali Khafaja, former LO and current NO on Human Rights & Peace for IFMSA-Jo.

What made this project such a thrill to both observers and organizers was the way it tackled the multiple aspects of autism through a multifaceted approach.

Sahtuk Bialdunya Project number three was a Breast Cancer awareness campaign known as ( ‫ )صحتك بالدنيا‬which was held in February. The project was lead by Lina N. Amairi, and it took place in Irbid City center. The city center was chosen because a large portions of the target demographics, females of all age groups, were expected to be found there. The campaign was orchestrated by 5 OCs and 10 volunteers, all equipped with ©IFMSA-JO PUBLICATIONS SUPPORT DIVISION 2018

MedTalks, the latest and largest of its kind, has earned the first ever award at an NGA. The project helped in creating a platform where successful young physicians could share both helpful knowledge and experiences they picked up over the years with medical students. The project was lead and Co-lead by Ala Najjar and Mohammad Tawalbeh respectively, with assistance from former LOME; Yusuf Abuelhaija, in providing names of potential speakers.

and Robotic Surgery, and the predictions of immense growth in the near future, which has been met with great attention. However It does not end there, because MedTalks has been rebranded as MedTalks (M.A.Y) which is due to be relaunched in 2018 even better than before.

A new insulin delivery system could offer peace for patients with diabetes

This new technology enables direct communication between the continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM) and insulin pump to stabilize blood glucose at unparalleled levels, it substitutes the “open loop” concept that requires the patient to use the data from their continuous glucose monitor to decide how much insulin to inject; eliminating any human error due to the manual

determination of the insulin dose.

DNA Derived Hypertension Vaccine

Jenner Expanded on techniques documented since the late 1400’s, known as ‘inducing immunity’ or inoculation, to eradicate many infectious diseases preceding the finding of the modern day vaccine in Europe. The world was hooked every since, motivated by the substantial plummeting in mortality rates of infectious diseases and the successful performance of vaccines against Polio, Hepatitis A&B, Tuberculosis, Meningitis and Measles, etc.

Huge investments have been given to vaccine studies in order to come out with new methods and approaches, so that one day vaccines no longer be exclusive to infectious diseases and spread to cover some noncommunicable diseases.

This technique promises to potentially cure a wide range of infectious and chronic diseases like AIDS, diabetes, obesity, cancer and hypertension.

A particularity auspicious study aimed to design a DNA vaccine for high blood pressure. Many trials were directed at pinpointing which molecular pathway to target. Angiotensin II is a protein that can raise blood pressure by promoting vessel constriction, if present in the circulating blood. The idea is to produce a vaccine that ends in the production of antibodies that have the ability to decrease the levels of angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure as a result. The vaccine would theoretically mimic ACE Inhibitors, a class of common antihypertensive drugs that aim to relax blood vessels,

The British General Medical Council are in the process of replacing PLAB with the UK Medical License Assessment (UKMLA) which will be sat by any future UK doctor.

By Faris Haddad In June 2015, the General Medical Council (GMC) has announced the intention of replacing the Professional and Linguistics Assessment Board (PLAB) with the UK Medical License Assessment (UKMLA), which will be taken by UK graduates as well.

Currently, the path to becoming a practicing doctor in the UK is dependent upon where the applicant graduated.

UK medical graduates sit for the MLA, and non-EU/EEA overseas graduates typically sit for the PLAB, while EU/EEA are not required to have any UK based credentials to practice medicine, due to mutually recognised standards amongst EU/EEA member states. ©IFMSA-JO PUBLICATIONS SUPPORT DIVISION 2018

The GMC has reported of variations in doctors› Annual Review of Competence Progression, with PLAB takers scoring the least satisfactory. That, coupled with the GMC›s reviews calling for an overhaul of PLAB Step 2, resulted in the decision.

The new test will attempt to create a common standard amongst all future medical practitioners in the UK, in order to address the aforementioned variation in assessment results. And by requiring UK and international graduates to sit for the same exam, the new test will be designed to promote “consistency and fairness.”

The UKMLAs are expected to be more difficult to pass that PLAB, which is part of the plan to limit “substandard” doctors who graduate from less reputable educational centres.

The GMC was also looking for a legal framework to require EU/ EEA graduates to take the test, but if the UK ends up taking the “hard” Brexit option, that will not be an issue any longer.

The new assessment will consist of 3 steps, with steps 1&2 being based on their PLAB equivalents, with greater emphasis on professionalism and ethics will placed in the new system, however it is unclear how ethics will be assessed. Step 3 will be a reevaluation test after 18 or 24 months of being licensed, covering the subject matter of the previous 2 steps. The GMC has also stated that the results will allow for ranking the applicants, but it has not made it clear who will actually have access to these results and how will they be used.

If the project has not fallen behind schedule, it should currently be in the end of its development stage and will move on to testing in 2018.

The UKMLA is expected to go live for international graduates in 2019 and for UK graduates in 2022.

By Mumen Ayyat NGA 11 In their take on the National General Assembly, the Hashemite University Local Committee took it upon themselves to provide us with a great deal of entertainment and an educational theme as they made “Road Traffic Accidents” the main focus of the two-day event that kept us in the cold of the desert where the university is located. They started the whole ordeal by making the registration booths literal cars as I remember the Toyota Prius hatch back lifted up and our badges hanging from those cars.

The themed badges themselves and the amazing decorations of the venue were enough to show what they wanted to teach us about.

It was truly spectacular to watch as they did everything they could to make those two days truly remarkable to which it holds true to this day. I still remember the scary statistics and the thoroughly beneficial experience on traffic accidents a lecturer gave us in the opening event of the whole NGA. Road safety is an issue that needs more attention as road traffic accidents kill more people than anything else in Jordan and the organizing committee of this NGA made us aware of some facts that haunt us to this day. Those facts made many people I know think twice before going over any speed limit.

The ever so familiar venue of the faculty of medicine grows on you after three National General Assemblies and you are humbled by the sheer size of that university; extending more that 20 square kilometers in Al Zarqa and keeping you wanting to see more and The opening is always something to more. NGA12 It was the second time Mutah University Local Committee hosted a National General Assembly and we knew what to expect; nevertheless, they shattered all expectations and gave us yet another amazing experience at their university. An opportunity that many of us would not have experienced if it wasn’t for IFMSAJo. Working with this organization truly gives you opportunities you would never take alone and puts you in unexpected places, cities and countries.

We arrived early morning and had to walk to where they were holding the registration booth. We were excited to see what their plan for their theme event was since it was about “Warfare”, and as future healthcare providers living in this geographical area, it concerned us more than we thought. They decorated the venue beautifully and it was clear that their vision is to make everything scream the name of the theme event. The organizing committee were wearing matching military uniforms which was impressive on its own. Moreover, the

When you are in a southern city, such as Al-Karak, you expect the best hospitality and the friendliest faces, yet what we got was even more than what we expected. As the organizing committee took it upon themselves to show us every bit of the university while they walked us to the sessions venue - it was a 10 minute walk. The facility itself was incredible, and their faculty of medicine building truly inspires you to learn. The NGA sessions were educational, engaging, full of energy and fun. The attendance the next day surprised everyone as people demanded more of those sessions from both the organizing committee and the standing committee officers.

In the end, it is all about Mansaf, our national dish. Even though Mansaf is hard to make and expensive to serve to 350 persons, Mutah University students promised to serve it to us, and as they promised, Mansaf was served for lunch. In the cold of September, our appetites are challenge to deal with, but we left the cafeteria happy and ready for the rest of our day.

If you ask anyone about an NGA in Mutah, they will start by telling you about the delicious Mansaf.

Both the March and September NGAs share a lot in common. However, there are always special events in the one held in September. They are without a doubt the “elections”! NGA12 was the last NGA of the term, but it was indeed the first hallmark of an era full of prosperity for IFMSA-Jo! “Ladies and gentlemen please stay seated” This is how the chairperson of the plenary session started! “Organizing Committee please close the doors; the first candidate will now present his candidature!”

Total silence filled the room as everyone was impatiently waiting to hear the presentations of one candidate after the other! This was the first round of elections! There were 6 invalid candidates and 9 valid candidates running for many different Team of Officials positions. 5 of the valid candidates passed and were the ©IFMSA-JO PUBLICATIONS SUPPORT DIVISION 2018

first to take a step towards joining the incredible team of 2017/2018.

The rest were less fortunate during this round. Plenaries are always full of emotions, where you see smiles, tears, members cheering, and proud supporters.

The Executive Board can now fill the 4 empty spots on the Team of Officials! Four hard working members were selected to join the wonderful team that will be leading IFMSA-Jo during the term 2017/2018. Now that the team is ready, it was time for their handover! Each current Team of Officials member sat with their soon-to-be successor and delivered a handover to assure sustainability

of IFMSA-Jo’s work. By the End of October, the new team was ready to take over. With the start of the new term, the Executive Board along with the existing member of the Supervising Council of the 2017/2018 term selected two highly experienced members. It is now the time for a new team to continue what previous teams have started, and break all set standards to create a new IFMSA-Jo,

16 of them were valid candidates and were extremely competitive! Out of the 16, 8 made it through. The spark in their eyes when they read the results cannot be described. By this time, 13 spots in the Team of Officials and 1 spot in the Supervising council were filled. What do we do now? We have 6 more empty spots, 4 of them are on the Team of Officials, and 2 of them on the Supervising Council!

brought to life through a body of incredible people who work tirelessly to insure the best outcomes possible, grasped through a hands-on approach plus an open dialogue technique, enabling students to submerge themselves in the work, preparing them for the real deal to come. From Trauma evaluation & management, to a quick trip to Germany, then all the way back to learn the fundamentals of proper injection practice, it’s safe to say SCOME tackled it all this last term, so here’s all you need to know about the star national projects; Starting off with TEAM, short for Trauma Evaluation and Management, as the name suggests this project aimed to introduce Med students in their clinical years to the concepts of trauma assessment and management, led by Omar Al Odat, with its key elements adapted directly from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course.

The project was held on July 7th 2017, what made this project a success was not only the collaborative effort of the organizing team, but it lied in the innovative way it was built and presented to the participating members as real case scenarios followed by the subsequent trauma

and how to selectively manage it, graduating a group of people with a new sense of intuition and insight, pivotal to treat emergent cases and assist in any unexpected plot that could appear in our everyday lives.

The second project definitely highlights the spirit of SCOME, it’s where medical education meets hands-on participation, Mahmoud Meqdadi took the fact that mastery and skill were only efficiently present if the holder was confident, and he turned it into a project held in February 2017, that aimed to teach and build confidence by giving 150 medical students the opportunity to practice the basics of injections on actual patients under the supervision and guidance of doctors and nurses. This project made it possible for students from five universities to train on giving Intramuscular, Subcutaneous and Intravenous injections, they were also familiarized and given Heart Saver and First Aid training via observing real cases go in and out of the ER at King Abdullah University Hospital.

Our last stop touched down in centralwestern Europe, in Germany to be exact. ‘Make a Turn to Germany’ was held on 15th July 2017, the idea behind this project was conceptualized by the up-trending position Germany has been gaining as the ‘it’ destination

of Post-Graduation Med students in Jordan. This course aimed to present all those whom are vetting Germany as a potential goal after graduation with a glimpse at how the future would look if a career was pursued there. The event was a national workshop sponsored by the Language Generation Centre (LGC) and the Ministry of Youth, Led by Dua Alhusni, with 90 participants selected from all six years of studies, spanning five universities, this project answered all questions that had been previously somewhat ambiguous to our students.

Why Germany? What are the steps and the Language requirements that need to be fulfilled? Which speciality? only a glimpse at some of the questions answered and made readily accessible to our students, designed perfectly to ensure proper decision making in the future. what made all this possible was the collective effort pooled into an undeniably successful term, SCOME has proved that hard work, dedication and diversity are all crucial components in order to look from the outside in and deem what has been accomplished truly, victorious. what will the next term bring? let’s wait and see.

Professional Exchange has always been regarded as the starting point that paved the way for the other committees; it was the first standing committee to be established in IFMSA. After the second world war, many saw it crucial to start non governmental organizations that would bring people together, and to create an outlet through which medical students have the chance to discuss topics that were trending at the time. This was the start of what is now known as the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange. Providing medical students with the opportunity to experience an educational & cultural exchange while also and learning about global health.

Reforms During the March 2017 NGA, a reform concerning the structure of SCOPE in IFMSA-Jo was passed. It resulted in the abolition of the National Exchange Officer (NEO) position from the National Team of Officials, and introduced the National Exchange Officer for incomings and National Exchange Officer for outgoings to the Team of Officials. In brief, the NEO-In will be mainly responsible for incoming student management and internal issues, while the NEO-Out will be responsible for outgoing student management. The belief that changes should be encouraged whenever old polices convert into obstacles, which is exercised daily within IFMSA, helped pass this reform in order to better allocate both energy and resources.

Under the leadership of Ala Najjar, this project started as a way to convince medical students that they need more than just studying in their lives; coming together and working as a team to reach a certain level of fitness through healthy eating and exercise would restore levels of energy that could reflect well on grades. The plan is for each LC to host a nutritionist to aid the participants in preparing physically for the tournaments by leading the dialogue exclusively in terms of the competition.

For example, HU’s nutrition based LGA will have a segment dedicated to the Cup. Besides the health and nutritional aspects of the project, it also will bring in an element of fun and friendly competition to the table.

How will it all work? each LC will put together a team and select a captain. on Research Exchange has emerged as one of the leading innovators of research amongst medical students in Jordan, meticulously integrating research in day to day projects, serving up a wide variety of activities ranging from its annual research program that gives medical students from Jordan and more than 10 countries around the world the opportunity to engage in research projects. Research workshop (RW) an IFMSA Transitional Project (ITP) that trains students on how to become adequate participants in the field of biomedical research, other activities include Pre-research training sessions; preparing students traveling for exchange purposes with a vast amount of knowledge and skills, key for their stay abroad. SCORE also holds annual research days / conferences in cooperation with different local committees to ensure they are up to date on the latest in the world of research, allowing students to present their work in an interactive manner.

Exchange season is probably one of the most highly anticipated events for students, it’s a Facebook announcement that is never missed, last term, to no surprise, had a successful exchange run: there were contracts with 13 countries ranging from Kuwait all the way to Canada, some of which were Germany, Greece,

Spain, Mexico, Paraguay and Egypt, with Turkey hosting up to four seats.

With 130 applicants total, the final participants were selected through an extensive 14 point criteria, ending with an interview to round things up.

A Pre-Departure Training (PDT) was held in May 2017 in collaboration with SCOPE to make sure exchange students were up to speed and had full understanding on all that is expected of them during their exchange period, including attendance requirements, it also touches on cultural ethics, proper patterns of external representation and communication skills. These training sessions are held annually before students depart to their intended exchange destinations and have proven their efficacy in terms of orienting students Pre-exchange.

One of the highlights of SCORE’s year was the ‘Human Papilloma Virus research project’ which was launched on the 26th of March at the Hashemite University. it was the first of its kind and aimed to determine the prevalence of the HPV infection amongst Jordanian women, as it has been strongly linked to cervical cancer. Lead by Ali Freitekh and supervised by Dr. Ashraf Khasawneh, with a collaborative effort between students and Prince Hamza Hospital, it was a success, with hopes HTTPS://IFMSA-JO.ORG/PUBLICATIONS/

that the research continues further into the future in order to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of this virus.

SCORE also hosted the Medical Research Conference UJ-LC in March 2017, organized by Momen Rbeihat, hosting about 400 participants, from students to organizers. Students usually find it difficult initiating a research project, this could be attributed to either the inability to organize or write the content, some students cannot find the right resources to obtain their material, this conference was designed specifically to introduce and guide students on how to tackle their research in the most convenient way, offering workshops that recommend hassle-free approaches students can take.

It supplied students interested in research with the basic principles, making them more confident and involved in one of the most prosperous yet challenging fields of medicine.

Offering students opportunities to engage in research abroad is one aspect of this committee, but the unsung hero is definitely the handson workshops, training sessions and conferences this committee holds in collaboration with different LCs. Another project with a similar taste to Research is the key to the future, and the previous one was Research Day SCORE is taking us there.

SCORP and its projects have been the shining beacon of hope for so many people and students all over Jordan; raising awareness and spreading positivity throughout the year.

Our Rights Our Fight An unconventional project from its very beginning. Every step was different and new but the main focus was propagating the fundamentals of the human rights and helping others to get a glimpse of what’s currently happening in the world. What makes the events of this project more special is that it targeted a diverse group of people ranging from school students to elders hoping to create a lasting impact on whomever the project reached.

The first step of this project was a Visit to “Al-Zahra’a Elderly House”. The volunteers joyfully spent time with the residents of the elderly house; playing games, interacting and listening to heart-rending stories. As the team believes that the best preparation for tomorrow is doing our best today, the next step was training students from Bunat Al-Ghad School on human rights. This training made the student realize the impact they can make as the humanitarians and leaders of our future.

Medical students didn’t only organize the steps but have been part of every single step; the third step which was Training New Human Rights Trainers (TNHRT) in which medical students participated not only as organizers but as participants. They’ve expanded their knowledge about various human rights topics and issues with anticipation of sharing the experiences they’ve gained in their current and future platforms.

The most recent step which took place in the Rainbow street was exceptional to say the least. Participants had to live in simulation of the ordeal that immigrants go through every day all over the globe. ‫أشارت دراسة بريطانيّة حديثة قام بها جمموعة من الباحثني‬ ‫من جامعة كامربيدج إىل إمكانيّة خلق جهاز اصطناعي جديد‪،‬‬ ‫يسمح ملرضى ال ّسكري أن ينعموا حبياة طبيعيّة يف غضون‬ ‫عامني‪ ،‬حيث قاموا بتطوير األجهزة املساعدة التقليدية‬ ‫للبنكرياس ليقدموا لنا جهازاً أكثر فاعلية يعد بديالً لبنكرياس‬ ‫اإلنسان‪ ،‬وهو يف حجم هاتف «آي فون» احملمول‪ ،‬ليقوم‬ ‫برصد ومراقبة ال ّسكر يف الدّم‪ ،‬ويعمل تلقائياً على تزويد اجلسم‬ ‫وخالل إجراء دراسة على أربعني شخصاً من املرضى‬ ‫‪.‬بهرمون اإلنسولني عن طريق حقنه باملستويات املطلوبة‬ ‫املصابني بالنوع الثاني من ال ّسكري‪ ،‬تلقى نصف املرضى‬ ‫وقال كبري الباحثني يف الدراسة الدكتور رومان هوفوركا‪ ،‬وهو‬ ‫من خمتربات حبوث التمثيل الغذائي جبامعة كامربيدج‪:‬‬ ‫الصناعي يسمح بإمدادات أكثر تفاعليّة‬ ‫«إ ّن البنكرياس ّ‬ ‫لإلنسولني وما نتوقعه ‪-‬وفقا ملا دعمته حتى اآلن الدراسات‬ ‫‪».‬السريرية‪ -‬هو أ ّن النتائج الصحيّة ميكن أن تتحسن‬

‫املتجولني على ‪ SCOPH‬اجلبابرة ‪ ،‬هذا ما أطلقه فريق‪-‬‬ ‫أنفسهم ‪ ،‬الفريق الذي جعل للحمالت معنى آخر متا ًما ‪ ،‬بدأ فريق‬ ‫عملهم يف عام ‪ 2015‬و انتهاءً به يف عام ‪ titans ، 2017‬ال‬ ‫حيث قام الفريق املكون من املنظمني و قائد احلملة حممد الصمادي‬ ‫آنذاك و املتطوعني بزيارات عدة قرى يف احملافظات بالتعاون مع ال‬ ‫و أمانة عمان الكربى ‪ ،‬حيث كانت معظم ‪ JADS‬و ‪USAID‬‬ ‫أيام هذه احلملة و زياراتها تدور حول الزيارات و الكشف الطيب‬ ‫للمناطق ذات الوصول الصعب و بعض فحوصات لألسنان و التوعية‬ ‫باألمراض السارية و توفري بعض املستلزمات و غريها من الفعاليات‬ ‫كإقامة إفطار رمضاني لأليتام بالربكة مول بالتعاون مع هيئة شباب‬ ‫كلنا األردن آنذاك‪ ،‬و ارتكز هدف هذا املشروع على نشر فكرة ال‬ ‫بشكل خاص و التعريف بها و أن يرى اآلخرون مقدرة ‪IFMSA‬‬ ‫و قوة ما قد يقوم به أي قائ ٍد و منظم و متطوع من خالل الشراكة مع‬ ‫اجلهات املذكورة و أيضا للتوعية بأهمية األمراض السارية و الكشف‬ ‫الطيب و توفري األدوية اجملانية ً‬ ‫أيضا للذين حيتاجونه و التوعية أيضا‬ ‫بأهمية التكافل بهذا املضمون ‪ ،‬كما انبثق عن هذه احلملة وميض‬ ‫‪ IFMSA‬يقضي بأهمية تدريب و توعية األطباء و املنتسبني لل‬ ‫‪،‬بأهمية التكافل و تفعيل الدور التطوعي و االنساني لكل منا‬ ‫من قلب هذه احلملة ؛ من هنا ‪ ،‬لك فيه بعض من احلب و‬ ‫العون ‪ ،‬ال يعين أن تكون طبيبا أن تلتزم مبالئتك البيضاء الرتيبة‬ ‫‪ ، .‬فقط كن عونا بذي حاجة ‪ ،‬و كن جبا ًرا ‪ ،،‬كما كنا حنن‬ ‫كان نقطة حتول ‪ ،‬أوال كوه ‪ TITANS‬ال شك أن ال ‪«:‬‬ ‫األول م وعه و الوسيلة األفضل جلعل احلمالت اسيابية أكثر‬ ‫و قادرة على الوصول للمناطق النائية و ثانيًا بتقوية عالقات‬ ‫‪HTTPS://IFMSA-JO.ORG/PUBLICATIONS/‬‬

‫‪HERE I AM‬‬ ‫املشروع الوطين ذو الصيت األمجل و األسبقية ذو التسع حمافل‬ ‫على مدى سنة كاملة ‪ ،‬الذي احتوى على مجيع اشكال الفعاليات‬ ‫الرافدة و النوعية من حالت للتوعية يف مدينيت عمان و اربد يف كل‬ ‫من ‪ :‬حدائق امللك عبداهلل الثاني و اربد سييت سنرت يف اربد‪ ،‬و شارع‬ ‫الرينبو يف عمان‪ ،‬و بعض قرى مدينة اربد‪ ،‬بالتحديد قرى قميم و قم‬ ‫و كفر أسد و كفر عان يف مقاطعة الوسطية ‪ .‬و مل خيلو املشروع من‬ ‫ورشات العل حيث ضم ورشيت عمل بالتعاون مع مبادرة ولي العهد‬ ‫‪ ،‬مبادرة حتصني‪ ،‬و اليت تهدف إىل توعية الشباب باخلدرات و‬ ‫آثارها و دور اإلعالم و مواقع التواصل االجتماعي و تأثريه على‬ ‫الصحة العقلية بالذات و كيف نستطيع يدا بيد أن نصل ألعلى‬ ‫مستوى من سالمة الصحة العقلية و النفسية ‪ ،‬و امتدت الورشات‬ ‫على مدى أربعة أيام لطالب كل من جامعة األردنية و اجلامعة‬ ‫ورشات تدريبية أخرى‬ ‫اهلامشية و جامعة الريموك ‪ ،‬كما رفد املشروع‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫حيث كانت ‪ IFMSA-JO‬جلميع طالب اجلامعات و أعضاء‬ ‫موضوعاتها األساسية و منها فن إدارة الوقت و التحكم بالغضب‬ ‫‪ ، .‬طرق التواصل الف ّعال‪ ،‬إدارة التوتر و الضغط و الذكاء العاطفي‬ ‫و لكن ملاذا الصحة النفسية؟ و ملاذا نضعه‬ ‫يف أولويات اجنداتنا و احلمالت الوطنية ؟‬ ‫ان مثل هذه املواضيع اليت قد جتعل بعض الريبة و الشك و‬ ‫االستفهام يعل ّون من يناظر عنهن ‪ ،‬إال أن مثل هذه املواضيع أثبتت‬ ‫و جبدارة نقاط حتول عدة للكثري من ألشخاص الذين حضروا بعضا‬ ‫من احملافل اليت أُقيمت للمشروع و الورشات و أثرت فيهم و‬ ‫ذلك هو املرجو من كل هدف يوضع لكل مشروع يف االحتاد و‬ ‫‪ .‬من االشخاص القائمني عليه‪ ،‬اهلدف و الثبات عليه و اإلصرار‬ ‫إني أتذكر شعور و مالمح وجوه األشخاص الذي تواجدوا خالل «‬ ‫أيام املشروع ‪ ،‬خصوصا عند تلقيهم التوعية و املعلومات و النقاشات‬

‫الطويلة معهم اليت فتحت قلوبهم ع ّما هو منكوب و مربوط ما الذي حيدث عندما منزج الفن و األعمال ؟‬ ‫بأسالف الزمان و املعتقدات اخلاطئة ‪ ،‬الذين تكلموا عن مشاكل‬ ‫ختصهم و مل خيرجوا من دائرة فريقنا و مشروعنا إال و بأيديهم‬ ‫‪ HERE I AM‬احللول ‪ ،‬نعم كانت احللول هنا ‪ ،‬و لكن‬ ‫‪ !!» ....‬أوضحها هلم أكثر بقدراتهم و ما الذي يستطيعون فعله‬ ‫علي خفاجة ‪ ،‬املسؤول الوطين للجنة املسؤولة عن حقوق االنسان‬

‫فكر فينا و اطفيها‪Smoking campaign-‬‬ ‫محلة أطلقها مركز احلسني للسرطان بالتعاون مع سواعد متطوعي‬ ‫حيث ‪ IFMSA-JO ،‬االحتاد الدولي لطلبة الطب يف االردن‬ ‫ساهم متطوعو االحتاد يف نشر التوعية و البحث و على وقع‬ ‫اخلطى الثابتة يف مئتان و عشرون بقعة خمتلفة يف حمافظات‬ ‫اململكة من الشمال اىل اجلنوب كتغطية كاملة و بهمة مثانني‬ ‫متطوع و متطوعة يف هذه اخلطوة السابقة العهد ‪ ،‬حيث قام‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫املتطوعون بزيارة عدة مؤسسات من مدارس و حدائق و مطاعم‬ ‫و مراكز تأهيل و مؤسسات حكومية حبثا عن تلك اليت تلتزم‬ ‫تنص بعدم التدخني و غريها و تلك اليت‬ ‫بالقوانني و الشارات اليت ُ‬ ‫تعد متنف ًسا آمنًا و إطالقة جديدة عن غري ذي سابق ؛و مل تتوقف‬ ‫احلملة و همة املتطوعني و الفريق هلذا احلد ‪ ،‬بل و قاموا بعدة‬ ‫محالت توعية إحداهما يف جامعة البرتاء و األخرى أخذت مسات‬ ‫التعاون مع وزارة الصحة يف عدة حمافل ؛و ما هو جدير باالهتمام‬ ‫عن طريق حضور عدة ‪ IFMSA‬حقًا بهذه احلملة هو تقديم ال‬ ‫اجتماعات و ورشات عمل إقليمية املستوى اليت عقدتها خمتلف‬ ‫املنظمات اليت تعمل ملكافحة التدخني ‪ ،‬و نهاي ًة كان االحتفاء‬ ‫و احلفل اخلتامي هلذه اجلهود املباركة و اليت رعت تكرميها‬ ‫صاحبة السمو امللكي األمرية غيداء بنت طالل و اليت أشادت‬ ‫بعمل املتطوعني و املشاركني يف احلفل اخلتامي و بذلك تكللت‬ ‫ج ُل اجلهود اليت سعت و رتبت و عملت بتواصل مستمر ‪ ،‬جلمع‬ ‫املعلومات و لطرق كل األبواب حبثا عن مناطق خالية من التدخني‬ ‫‪.‬‬

The Story of YU-LC

by Hussein Raid Al-Qudah, Saif Yahya Abdulnabi The story of YU-LC goes back to the beginnings of 2015, when 14 highly motivated non-experienced medical students from Yarmouk University attended the 7th National General Assembly, which took place at Hashemite University. They were overwhelmed by the community of IFMSA-Jo and the huge efforts they do for the sake and goodness of the Jordanian society as a whole, not just medical students.

Six months later, with nine projects successfully accomplished by a grown family of 313 medical students at Yarmouk University, these young ambitious students were ready to join the great family of IFMSA-Jo; applying for the candidate membership and successfully gaining it at the following National General Assembly At Mu›tah University.

Since then, nothing but history; hard working and sleepless nights lead to fulfilling the full IFMSA-Jo membership requirements during 18 months only.

How was that even possible? By the great work, experience and motivation YU-LC members have shown. The family was growing more and more.

During the first 12 months, YU-LC had executed 14 local projects in all standing committees, meanwhile proving and convincing other medical students to join the family. The future LC has established a strong capacity of 536 members in the database during such a short period.

Over the following six months, YULC doubled the growing rates quality and quantity wise, gaining more than 110 members in six months only. That helped YU-LC enrich the community with over 16 successful projects and the preparation of SCOPE and SCORE for incoming and outgoing exchanges.

After the joy, gaining the full membership gave members extra motivation to join IFMSA-Jo›s YU-LC, participate in its events and lead both local and national projects. That raised YULC›s reputation to the sky and proved that it›s members have the abilities to run huge events, which clearly appeared after two YU-LC members were elected as National Team of

Officials Members.

Finally we say thank you for everyone who was part of this exceptional story.

‫الفصول األوىل من حياة حممد عماد – رمح ُه اهلل‬‫احملارب ذو الواحد والعشرين ربيعاً‬ ‫ينادونين باحملارب‪ ،‬املقاتل ذو األمل‪ ،‬أو باألحرى ’’فاقد احلياة اليت أعطاها‘‘؛ ‪-‬‬ ‫و لكنين اآلن؛ لست هنا ألشارككم هذا كله؛‬

‫الفصل األول؛ من أكون أنا ؟ ‪-‬‬ ‫ال أعلم حقا ما الذي أقوله‪ ،‬فمنذ بدايات مرضي رمقين الكثريون بنظرات الرفق والشفقة وبعضهم مبعنى الالمباالة‪’’ :‬مسكني رح ’‬

‫ميوت بعز شبابه‘‘؛ ’’شوف كيف بتبسم وجهة حتى وهو حبالته هاي‘‘؛ ’’ياريت عندي نص قوته‘‘؛ و كثري من عبارات األمل‬ ‫والتنبؤات العقيمة وغريها من األقاويل اليت تنم عن الالمعنى ألصحابها واليت اعتدت مساعها كلها يف أفعاهلم وأعينهم دون أن يقولوها‬ ‫‪...‬‬ ‫بدأ املرض اللعني جولته األوىل يف عظامي‪ ،‬هذا القصب األبي الطويل الذي خانين تباعا منذ نهاية عام ‪ ،2015‬رغم أنين قاومته‬ ‫بكل سبلي وحبيب هلن‪ ،‬كما رعيتهم طوال العشرين اليت مضت؛ إال أن جذور اللعنة امتدت لرئيت اليت تقاعست عن محاييت! لكن‬ ‫ال مشكلة لطاملا كنت أنا أقوى منهن‪ ،‬فأنا من أملك ارادتي و حيب للحياة؛ دائما اعتدت أن أقول ملن يالزمونين من عائليت والذين‬ ‫رافقوني احلرب الضارية يف مركز احلسني للسرطان أن هذه اللعنة اخلبيثة ليست أقوى منا‪ ،‬بل حنن أقوى منها‪ ،‬و بذلك فزت‬ ‫ممن أحبو احلياة من بعدي‬ ‫حببهم و رعايتهم لي حتى بعد مماتي‪ ,‬حقًا لست أنا من يكتب اآلن ‪ ،‬فلدي الكثري من القصص تُروى ّ‬ ‫‪.‬حمارب السرطان الذي عرف بابتسامته‪ ،‬رغم قتالي البالغ للقوة إال أن املرض غلبين يف آخر جولة‬ ‫أنا حممد عماد‪ ،‬و هذه قصيت اليت سرتوى حبب على فصول ‪-‬‬ ‫هذا املنشور هو تعزية كبرية لنا قبل أن يكون ألهل احملارب القوي حممد عماد رمحه اهلل و أحسن نزله‪ ،‬حممد عماد الشاب اخللوق‬ ‫رسم إبتسامه‘ أثناء زياراتنا ملركز احلسني للسرطان والذي كان دائم التبسم و الوعظ‬ ‫الذي عرفه جمموعة منا السنة املاضية يف مشروع ’أُ ُ‬ ‫‪.‬لنا‪ .‬حممد عماد هو الذي كنا نظن أننا نستطيع إعطاءه األمل و لكنه يبهرنا يف ما أعطانا إياه من حب وحكمة و متسك يف األهداف‬ ‫و حنن لنا الشرف اآلن لنروي قصته و لنضع غرس األمل بني ايديكم وبني ايدي كل الذين حياربون ليالً ونهارا‪ ،‬دون أن ننصت‬ ‫‪.‬ألنينهم‪ ،‬على مدى فصول عدة‪ ،‬لعلها تفي احلق‪ ،‬وتعيد بث األمل لكل فاقد له‬ ‫‪ ...‬يتبع ‪-‬‬ ‫»رحم اهلل حممد عماد وشفى كل حماربي السرطان«‬
