Dear Girlfriend, We have been married for 5 years. We have one child and one on the way. My husband is the baby in a very large family and his mother has always shown him a great deal of extra attention. It has been a tradition, long before me, for them to spend the 4th of July together and to bring a dish. That’s fine with me but I do not like my mother -n-law and she doesn’t like me. She makes cracks about everything about me, in front of my husband (sometimes he laughs) and in front of their other family members. I am sick and tired of it. Although I was taught to always respect my elders, I almost went there. Instead I went to the bathroom and cried. She talked about what I had on. She talked about what I cook or don’t cook. She talked about how I keep my house, and how we spend our money. She tells everyone how pitiful her son looks since he has been with me. She truly hurts my feelings every chance she gets and everyone knows it because I am not good at faking. You can read my feelings all over my face. My husband never sees or hears anything he thinks is so bad. I told him to ask his cousins but he hasn’t. They see and hear it all. She still has his prom picture up on the wall with the girl she wanted him to be with. We always argue after leaving her house and it is not good for our marriage. Well when we go to my family on Christmas day, my husband gets the royal treatment. My mom is very good to him and treats him like family. He watches football with my brothers and uncles and they play dominoes. He is very comfortable with my people. Well, today I made up my mind that this is my last year going to his mom’s house and she can miss me. I have concluded that the best thing for me to do is stay away. I told my husband I would not be going anymore and this started another big argument. Something in my spirit tells me this is the wrong position to take but I don’t know what else to do to protect my feelings. Any suggestions on how to handle his momma. Disrespected Daughter in Law Dear Disrespected Daughter in Law, You cannot handle his momma but you sure can handle her son. Sons do follow their wives and if you start making other plans, he will follow you and she will recognize that she doesn’t see her son as much. However, that’s not what I want you to do. One day you will need your mother in law and she will need you. I have learned through life and living that oftentimes the very person you fall out with is the very person holding your blessing. That’s how we miss our blessings by not being forgiving.
I believe your mother in law is guilty of everything you say she is, but I do want you to take into account that you are pregnant and more sensitive than you have ever been. Pregnant women are less tolerant of bull manure. Every time I was pregnant my children got more fussings, lectures and spankings. My husband even got popped a time or two. He excused me because he knew I was just emotional and chemically imbalanced. Now, you can stay respectful and still crack back. Say something like “that wasn’t very nice” or “your son is happier than he has ever been,” then look at her an extra second or two and walk away. There is nothing like staying in order when you are tempted to show your ass. How you respond is a sign of who you are and how you were raised. Regardless of her ways, I would not stop going to her house for the holidays because that’s where your husband wants to be and you want to be where he wants to be. You and your husband are supposed to be as one. No one should be able to divide and conquer that relationship, not even his mother and especially over the holidays. Don’t let the devil destroy a good family thing. Tell your husband he needs to put on his big boy pants and get his mother straight about his wife. He needs to tell her it’s time to put that picture where it belongs, in a photo album (not on the wall anymore). You need to pray for your mother n law. Sometimes people are being used by the devil and don’t know it. Believe me prayer works and you will see a positive change in her. Before you know it, that mother-n-law will be your best friend and that baby may look just like her.

Power Couples Celebrate Life, Retirement and Each Other! Dr. Brenda Walker Esquire, Dean of Affairs at USF, celebrated her husband, the legendary Rattler, Andre Walker of the FAMU Marching 100 at the Pepin Center on Thursday, July. Andre Walker has retired twice’ first from a 20 year career as a firefighter and now as a Hillsbourough County Teacher. Andre Walker of Tampa, retired after serving the teen population of Hillsborough County students for 22 years. Andre taught band and music at Middleton High School and was over the step team and more. The students loved him. One of his students, Cedrika Spencer said, “We love Mr. Walker, he was like a father to all of us!” Andre may have retired from the school system but not from doing what he loves most and that’s playing music. Andre plays lead guitar and other instruments but is well known for his performances with Evidence Band back in the day at the Blue Martini. His newest collaboration of

musicians has been reinstituting the Mighty Good and Strong Band. Andre Walker enjoys performing and his lovely wife proudly serves as his booking agent. The band continues to play venues in the Tampa Bay area and most recently at Fresh Fridays.
Judicial reporter and Miami native, Barbara Days celebrated her husband, FAMU alumnus Paul Roberts’ retirement at the Temple Terrace Country Club on Sunday, July 9th. Paul was a property manager for AT&T and retired after 30 years of service. He stayed on longer than planned to help maintain his region during the pandemic. Paul was born to a military man who has lived all across the country. His overall steadfastness to duty, loyalty and work ethic is worth emulating. Barbara Days Roberts, aka, the beautiful Barbara of the Bay, hosted the event in
grand style. Retired administrator and sister in law of the honoree, Jestina Cox, delivered a sincere yet comical adaptation of the poem “The Creation”. Paul was spoken highly of by his friends but most notably the men in attendance. Said one attendee, “It was really great to see the Black men that stood up to speak on his half so eloquently. It was a true testament to the type of men Paul and Barbara associate with.” Seeing the older men demonstrate what grown men look and talk like was very inspiring. Men with retirements has always been a struggle to attain in any community.

Mattilon Rosetta DeBose-Rock passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021. Her services were held on Thursday July 15th in Gainesville Fl. Mattilon was born in Gainesville October 3, 1950 to the union of the late Harrington Joseph DeBose, Sr. & Bernice McKnight-DeBose. She was a woman of God - A teacher to some, and a mother to several. The church homes Mattilon attended and served were Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ (of Gainesville, FL), Greater Bethel Baptist Church and Bible-Based Fellowship Church (both in Tampa, FL). Mattilon graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968 in Gainesville, and Florida A & M University
in - Tallahassee, Florida in 1972. Mattilon was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is preceded in death by a Brother - Harrington DeBose, Jr. She is survived by a Brother and Sister Joseph DeBose (& Toni) and Priscilla DeBoseMuDrow (& Gilbert); former Spouse - Alfred Rock; Children -Tamara Rock Brown (& Clarence), Tiffany Rock, Alfred Rock II and Alissa Rock; Grandchildren - DeAndre, Lyric, Cynnae, Ziya and Makai; her Nieces and Nephews - Amber, Alex, Bryson, Joey, Tai’Mani and Latrica; Cousin/As A “Little Brother” - David DeBose; Cousins; & Friends. Mattilon was a kind hearted lovingperson and for many years she was our Mary Kay lady.

Go Ahead and Get your Laugh On The American Way
The Americans and the Japanese decided to engage in a competitive boat race. Both teams practiced hard and long to reach their peak performance. On the big day they felt ready. The Japanese won by a mile. Afterward, the American team was discouraged by the loss. Morale sagged. Corporate management decided that the reason for the crushing defeat had to be found, so a consulting firm was hired to investigate the problem and recommended corrective action. The consultant's finding: The Japanese team had eight people rowing and one person steering; the American team had one person rowing and eight people steering. After a year of study and millions spent analyzing the problem, the consultant firm concluded that too many people were steering and not enough were rowing on the American team. So as race day neared again the following year, the American team's management structure was completely reorganized. The new structure: four steering managers, three area steering managers and a new performance review system for the person rowing the boat to provide work incentive. The next year, the Japanese won by two miles. Humiliated, the American corporation laid off the rower for poor performance and gave the managers a bonus for discovering the problem....

Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for prayer, while a telephone repairman worked nearby. “Kneeling is definitely best,” claimed one. “No,” another contended. “I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven.” “You’re both wrong,” the third insisted. “The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor.” The repairman could contain himself no longer. “Gentlemen,” he interrupted, “the best praying I ever did was hanging upside down from a telephone pole.” N-Touch News

A manager at Wal-Mart had the task of hiring someone to fill a job opening. After sorting through a stack of resumes he found four people who were equally qualified. He decided to call the four in and ask them only one question. Their answer would determine which of them would get the job. The day came and as the four sat around the conference room table, the interviewer asked, “What is the fastest thing you know of?’ The first man replied, “A THOUGHT.’ It just pops into your head. There’s no warning. “That’s very good!’ replied the interviewer. “And, now you sir?’, he asked the second man. ‘Hmmm, let me see, A blink! It comes and goes and you don’t know that it ever happened. A BLINK is the fastest thing I know of.’ “Excellent!’ said the interviewer. “The blink of an eye, that’s a very popular cliche for speed.’ He then turned to the third man, who was contemplating his reply. “Well, out at my dad’s ranch, you step out of the house and on the wall there’s a light switch. When you flip that switch, way out across the pasture the light on the barn comes on in less than an instant. “Yep, TURNING ON A LIGHT is the fastest thing I can think of’. The interviewer was very impressed with the third answer and thought he had found his man. “It’s hard to beat the speed of light,’ he said. Turning to BUBBA, the fourth and final man, the interviewer posed the same question. Old Bubba replied, “After hearing the previous three answers, it’s obvious to me that the fastest thing known is DIARRHEA.’ “WHAT!?’ said the interviewer, stunned by the response. “Oh sure’, said BUBBA. “You see, the other day I wasn’t feeling so good, and I ran for the bathroom, but before I could THINK, BLINK, or TURN ON THE LIGHT, I had already shit my pants.’ BUBBA is now the new greeter at the local Wal-Mart!

Before she died, an old lady wanted to visit England, the home of her ancestors. She went to the Federal Office and asked for a passport. “You must take the loyalty oath first,” the passport clerk said. “Raise your right hand, please.” The senior citizen raised her right hand as the clerk asked, “Do you swear to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, domestic or foreign?” The sweet old face paled and the voice trembled as she responded, “Well, I guess so, but ... will I have help, or will I have to do it all by myself?”

Two men have been ice fishing all day. One has had no luck, while the other has pulled out a ton of fish. “What’s your secret?” asks the unlucky fisherman. “Mmmmm mmm mm mmm mmmm mmm mmm,” is the reply. “I’m sorry; what did you say?” “Mmmmm mmm mm mmm.” “I still didn’t understand you.” The lucky fisherman spits something into his hand and says slowly and clearly, “You’ve got to keep your worms warm.”

“Has your son decided what he wants to be when he grows up?” I asked my friend. “He wants to be a garbageman,” he replied. “That’s an unusual ambition to have at such a young age.” “Not really. He thinks that garbagemen work only on Tuesdays.”
How to Slay a Dragon
A dashing Hero rides into a village and offers his services. The villagers tell him “There is a huge dragon living in the mountains. Every week, it will come down and eat one of our virgin girls!” The hero thinks a moment, then promises the village he will stop the dragon. Two weeks later, the dragon starved to death.
Meeting Women
An ugly man walks into a bar and a beautiful woman approaches him. The woman asks the man, “How would you like to get out of here?” and the man is stunned. He never thought a woman like her would ever approach him so he agrees. They both get into his car and drive really far. He stops at a cliff with the view of the whole city. Within seconds they start taking off their clothes. After 15 minutes of vigorous sex they finally finish. They both put their clothes on and they both just sit there awkwardly. The woman speaks up and says “I’m a prostitute and its going to be 100 dollars for my service.” The man is stunned and saddened that she didn’t really like him. He gives her the money and they both sit there awkwardly. The woman tells him that she is ready to leave and the man replies “I’m a taxi driver and its going to be 150 dollars for the ride here and back.”

Professor Stein was lecturing his physics class. “If molecules can be split into atoms and the atoms split into electrons, can the electrons be broken down any further?” A pupil replied, “I’m not certain, but a sure way to find out would be to mail some of them in a Christmas package marked ‘fragile.’”

Meet Tampa Bay’s Miss Juneteenth The Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition has crowned Tatiana Bell as Miss Juneteenth Tampa 2021. Tatiana, a Senior Honor student at Tampa Bay Technical High School is the captain of their dance team the Dancing Gems. Juneteenth contestants were evaluated on talent, public speaking, and overall community engagement. Tatiana performed a dance tribute to the fallen victims of police brutality. At the tender age of 14 Tatiana started an on line beauty boutique entittled Young Queen Beauty. Tatiana looks forward to collaborating with local and national entities to promote her platform of teen entrepreneurship and financial literacy. As Miss Juneteenth, she was awarded a laptop computer and a one thousand dollar check to be used toward her buiness or college educuation. This young
intellectual beauty will represent Tampa this fall at the National Miss Juneteenth pageant, in Oklahoma. Tatiana is the daughter of Tshacha & Kiana Romeo, Terran Bell, Sr. & Amy Jimenez.
Breeze Airlines Has Low Rates Breeze Airlines is turning a lot of heads in the industry because it’s mission as an airline is to provide more flights to underserved areas. The airline was founded by David Neelman, who also founded JetBlue. Big-name airlines like Southwest or Delta don’t always fly to these destinations, so making air travel more accessible to these underserved areas could open up a lot of opportunities for folks who don’t normally have access to air travel. A big plus to using Breeze is that the airline currently does not charge fees for changing or canceling a flight. They also offer a half-off discount on checked bags if you book your flight online or through their app. As of summer, 2021, you can book a Breeze Airlines flight from the East Coast to the middle of the United States. Ohio, Connecticut, Alabama,
Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Kentucky are all states that Breeze Airlines will fly to. According to Breeze’s CEO, there are no competitor flights for 80% of their nonstop routes this summer. Breeze started flying in May 2021, but most of these destinations won’t be ready for Breeze until July 15 or 22. It’s important to note that not every airport that Breeze will be flying out of will be offering flights to every destination on Breeze’s map during this early phase of their operations. They boast of flights with no connections with their destinations still fairly close to each other. Breeze advertises $49 flights, but if you navigate the website, you may find most flights in the $70-120 price range unless you’re booking well in advance.
