You Heard It From ME

Pictures from Mayor’s Merry Mingle

Were you on the guest list? Do you show up? Being on the guest list of the shakers and movers in Tampa Bay may be a challenge but has everything to do with the quality of your life. However, if you have just move to the area it’s virtually impossible to be on ones guest list, unless you are a high donor or your job sponsors an event.

So, how do you get in the mix? Well it starts with showing up, being seen, looking good and smiling. I must admit my wife Tampa Bay Tammy keeps our social calendar full but even when she’s away, I still show up and vice versa. Tammy has always been adamant that “One monkey don’t stop the show” So we show up!

Once upon a time, you may were on everyone’s guest list, but now your invitations are getting less and less an fewer and farther between. Some of you may attribute it to age, but I bet it’s a result of you not showing up and being replaced. Are you beginning to wonder how to get back in the swing of things? Well when people don’t see you, they forget about you, until they see you somewhere again. Then depending on how pleasant you are, and how well you are dressed, you may be re-activated in their social circle.

I have concluded that relationships and invitations are reciprocal. To be on one’s guest list, they have to be on yours. So short of throwing a party and inviting everyone you can think of, you are just going to have to start showing up again, looking fabulous, speaking and smiling with everyone. Furthermore, my wife and I have no problem being the first one on the dance floor.” Sitting in the corner does not get you invited to a party. First of all, no one remembers to invite the wall flower to the party. Well how did they get there? Usually they come with some one who is popular and in the mix. Someone may get you there but it’s up to you to get yourself invited back. You can’t always expect to ride someone else’s coat tail. Show up at the free events, the invited affairs and buy your tickets to advertise events. Stop waiting on a free ride and a hand out, that gets real old quickly. There is a gala or dinner dance almost every month or a free event somewhere in a park. We threw events all summer long, if I never saw you at one, of course you were erased and replaced with those who come and participate. So don’t get your feelings hurt if you are not on the list because you can change all that,...just show up!

Go Ahead And Get Your Laugh On

Holiday History

Not long ago and far away, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip. But there were problems everywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mom was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More Stress.

Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered

the toys. So frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whiskey. When he went to the cupboard, he found the elves had hid the liquor and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from. Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cussed on his way to the door. He opened the door and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said: “Where would you like to put this tree Santa?” And that my friend, is how the little angel came to be on top of the Christmas tree.

Going Through Customs

A distinguished young woman on a flight from Ireland asked the Priest beside her, “Father, may I ask a favor?”

“Of course child, What may I do for you?”

“Well, I bought an expensive woman’s electronic hair dryer for my Mother’s birthday that is unopened and well over the Customs limits, and I’m afraid they’ll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through customs for me? Under your robes perhaps?” “I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie.”

“With your honest face, Father, no one will question you.” When they got to Customs, she let the priest go ahead of her.

The official asked, “Father, do you have anything to declare?” “From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare.” The official thought this answer strange, so asked, “And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?”

“I have a marvelous instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date, unused.”

Roaring with laughter, the official said, “Go ahead, Father. Next!”

It’s Dog’s Life

An old tired-looking dog wanders into a guy’s yard. He examines the dog’s collar and feels his well-fed belly and knows the dog has a home. The dog follows him into the house, goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable and falls asleep. The man thinks its rather odd, but lets him sleep. After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out. The dog wags his tale and leaves. The next day the dog comes back and scratches at the door. The guy opens the door, the dog comes in,

goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable and falls asleep again. The man lets him sleep. After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out. The dog wags his tale and leaves.

This goes on for days. The guy grows really curious, so he pins a note on the dog’s collar: “Your dog has been taking a nap at my house every day.”

The next day the dog arrives with another note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with four children -he’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?’

Growing Old

Martha and Mabel are driving and Martha goes right through a red light.

Mable says to herself, “I think she just went through a red light.” Here comes another red light and again, she goes right through it without stopping.

Mable says to herself, “Okay, I’m

sure she is going through red lights and if she does it again I am going to say something.” Another red light and Martha goes right through, no stopping or slowing down. Mabel says to her, “Martha do you realize you are going through red lights?”

Martha turns to her and says, “Oh, am I driving?

Crash & Rescue

An elderly couple was flying to Hawaii for a two-week vacation to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Suddenly, over the public address system, the captain announces, “Ladies and gentlemen, I am afraid I have some very bad news. Our engines have ceased functioning and we will attempt an emergency landing. Luckily, I see an uncharted island below us and we should be able to land on the beach. However, the odds are that we may never be rescued and will have to live on the island for the rest of our lives.”

Thanks to the skill of the flight crew, the plane lands safely on the island. An hour later, the husband turns to his wife and asks, “Honey, did we

pay the car bill this month?”

“No, sweetheart,” she responds. Still shaken from the crash landing, he then asks, “Did we pay our credit card bill yet?”

“Oh no! I’m sorry. I forgot to send the check,” she says.

“One last thing, did you remember to pay the medical bill for the hospital visit last month?” he asks.

“Oh, forgive me, sweetheart,” begged the wife. “I didn’t send that one, either.”

The husband grabs her and gives her the biggest hug in 50 years. She pulls away and asks him, “What was the hug for?”

The husband answers, “They’ll find us!”…

Young Folk

A farmer goes out and buys a new, young rooster. As soon as he brings him home, the young rooster rushes and screws all 150 of the farmer’s hens. The farmer is impressed. At lunchtime, the young rooster again screws all 150 hens. The farmer is not just impressed anymore, he is worried.

The next morning, not only is the rooster screwing the hens but he is screwing the turkeys, ducks even the cow.

Later, the farmer looks out into the barnyard and finds the rooster stretched out, limp as a rag, his eyes closed, dead and vultures circling overhead.

The farmer runs out, looks down at the young rooster’s limp body, and says:

“You deserved it, you horny b*stard!” And the young rooster opens one eye, points up at the vultures with his wing, and says, “Shhhh! They are about to land!”

Cough Syrup

A chemist walks into a shop to find a man leaning against the wall. ‘What’s wrong with him?’ he asks the assistant. He came in for some cough syrup, the assistant explains. But I couldn’t find any so I sold him

a bottle of laxatives instead. What! the chemist says horrified. You can’t treat a cough with laxatives! Of course you can, the assistant declares. Look at him, he’s far too scared to cough.
